I went through an intensive 6-day retreat at the Child Trauma Institute and realized tremendous benefits from my experience. Im so grateful that it was covered by a state grant for child abuse survivors, so I was able to go free of charge. It was very intense and emotionally painful, although never overwhelming. My therapist did a great job of bringing me into contact with challenging memories long enough to do the work but not get consumed by it. I believe that a re-experiencing of certain aspects of trauma is a natural part of the healing process and something that I needed to do to move forward.Progressive Counting (Rickys modality) helped me discover what elements of my traumatic memories were the most triggering. My therapist was then able to use EMDR to process the memories more completely. The two therapies together proved to be a formidable combination.Make sure to eat healthy and drink LOTS of water during your retreat. Try not to do anything taxing...this process will take all of your energy and still leave you feeling like scrambled eggs.It would be a good idea to let friends or loved ones know that you are planning a retreat so they can be there if you need to call them. My therapist was wonderful, but having support from familiar people was really important to keep me positive after long days of processing. This is not easy work, but you owe it to yourself to be free once and for all from the trauma and grief that has been holding your life hostage. Truly transformational.

I received the very BEST, most repectful care from this quiet, healing place. I was skeptical about how effectively this type of therapy actually would be, but after having gone through a therapy retreat, I can honestly say there IS a healing thats taken place. Its an invaluable investment that continues paying dividends. Thank you sooooo very much!!

I personally went through the intensive program after the passing of my mother. My PTSD got flared up from my childhood sudden loss of my father. The treatment was one of the best things I have ever done for healing trauma. I have found talk therapy to be a waste of time mostly, and it often made me feel much worse. This and craniosacral therapy have helped me the most with traumas over the years. I know a lot about different modalities for healing and teach some basic trauma skills in my craniosacral school. I have done a lot of work on myself. They do screen people which is impressive and do not accept every applicant. Not everyone is suited for this work. Myself and many of those I have referred to this therapy have called it a life changer. It is cutting edge work. It may not be appropriate for those needing lots of medications as they not be ready for this kind of work.

If I could put no stars I would but it wont let me do that. Let me start off by saying I was so excited to get this going when I heard about it and my psychologist referred me to it. I was finally ready to deal with a lot of pain from my past and my present. Awful experience. After sharing my trauma with two different women over the phone and completing all the assessments required, no one followed up with me. They said after I completed the intake process I would hear from someone within 48 hours to let me know if I was a good fit or not. I waited a while never heard anything and so I recently contacted someone and told them how unprofessional this was. Not a good idea to leave traumatized individuals left hanging when they have already experienced let down and have a hard time trusting anyone. I will never recommend this facility to any of my clients, friends, or family.

Primum non nocere is a Latin phrase that means first do no harm This phrase forms the Hippocratic Oath that is sacred to those practitioners who treat ill patients. I write this to warn you not to be treated by Doctor RICKY GREENWALD and his group at the CHILD TRAUMA INSTITUTE as he totally ignores this principle in his medical quackery.Dr Greenwald treated my college- age daughter at the end of last year.. Greenwald holds that his 2-3 day intensive treatment can totally improve a childs psyche by unleashing their anxiety. Dr Greenwald summoned my daughter to fly to Buffalo to be treated by one of his colleagues. After unleashing the painful trauma of her mothers death when my daughter was 13, this practitioner released my daughter to fly back home after only three days.My daughter was completely unable to process this terribly traumatic psychic trauma and had to be hospitalized for ten days in a psychiatricward followed by 8 weeks of intensive out- patient treatment. She is still struggling now.Have you no shame DR GREENBERG?
