My OB wanted me to have my next ultrasound in four weeks but then decided he wanted MFM to see me instead. It took them over a week for them to call me and when they did the receptionist said “ I am calling you in regards to your consultation on November 15 at 1 PM”. (That appointment would be over 5 weeks ago) I said “I haven’t scheduled an appointment yet”. She said “ I am telling you that your appointment is November 15 at 1 PM, I’m not asking you”. So I said OK well I really need a morning appointment and then explained that my husband and I only have one vehicle and he works during the day. Then she basically told me if I couldn’t accept that appointment that I wouldn’t be seen by them because they had no other appointments available. Then she tells me, “and under no circumstances can your husband step foot in this building. He is not allowed in the waiting room or in the office due to Covid restrictions”. Also that appointment was only for a consultation and not an ultrasound. I would have to make another appointment to have my ultrasound after my consultation. Why do I need a consultation if my OB already referred me? That is a delay in care. To be fair I haven’t actually been seen by a physician at this group yet but I don’t think I’m going to considering that the doctor can dictate to me how often I see them versus my regular OB and they will not allow my husband to be with me during my appointments. I would much rather see a non-specialist who takes my complaints seriously and sees me in a timely manner and allows my husband to come to my appointments. If I have to I will drive up to Richmond to see a MFM and get appropriate care. I’m a nurse and I use to work on a maternity unit so I know that this is unacceptable.

Everyone at this location were incredible. I was so nervous from other reviews but from the moment I walked off the elevator they made me feel at ease and my concerns with my pregnancy were heard. I have gestational diabetes and attended a class for it. Very insightful and SO helpful.

My childcare fell through the morning of my appointment and my appointment time was before they even opened so I couldnt leave a message to cancel or give them a heads up. I tried twice.Once I called while they were open to let them know why I didnt come in and to reschedule, she told me they never had an appointment for me. She then told me I couldnt reschedule until I had a dr referral and told me theres no apt to change if it was never scheduled, acting as though I was stupid for thinking I had an appointment. Theyre the ones who called ME to schedule because I DID have a referral in the first place!!!The person who does referrals called me to reschedule and told me she forgot to put my appointment in but didnt apologize, just told me its still a no show because had I come in for my apt time they wouldve just added me to the books right then and there, even though on their end I had no appointment. No wonder theyre overbooked!!!!

Updated!!!!Absolutely horrible! Wait forever for a 10 min ultrasound by a girl who either didn’t know what she was doing or didn’t care! The worst!Update, still the worst place I have ever been to in my life! Over the phone, in person, no matter what, they are lazy and just plain horrible. I have two weeks until my baby is here….please God let her and I leave this place safely and never come back!!!I promised to be honest as possible about my experience when it came time to have my daughter.PERFECT!Yup, I could not believe it! From the moment we walked in River Pavilion and were greeted by Ms. Patti, the tone was set and as we prepare to bring my daughter home from the Special Care Unit the level of service, kindness, and professionalism has not declined over the past 5 days. There are so many doctors and nurses and caretakers to thank I cannot begin. I am definitely a tough one when it comes to healthcare and my expectations are extremely high!I was so scared for me and my daughter with a high risk c section and her likely needing special care once delivered. Every person I came in contact with was reassuring and the procedure went great. My daughter did need special care and the nurses are so kind and personal and you can feel confident your child is safe. I spent lots of time in the special care unit and saw the love and attention they give the babies who need much more care than mine and they truly want the best for every infant in their care. The pediatrician for the week has been amazing. He knew my husband and I from the first meeting and never missed an opportunity to update us, even in the middle of caring for other babies. He was so kind and sweet and patient. He respected the nursing staff and you could tell they respected him too.The craziness of the prior appointments was well worth it. I can say with confidence everyone who is responsible for bringing your child into the world safely and your safety will do everything possible to make this a reality!Thank you to everyone who took care of me and my daughter. I am forever grateful!

Ive only been to the Virginia Beach MFM, so my review is only for their location. With my first pregnancy, I had a great experience with them. I loved Dr. D and was sad to hear she retired when I came back for my second pregnancy. This time has been awful. The physicians are great, but the office staff and experience is awful. Theyre constantly overbooked and front staff usually seems annoyed to be helping me. Its not my fault theyre overbooked. Its also impossible to call and ask any questions. My insurance let me know theyre missing information needed to process a claim and cannot get through to EVMS MFM. Im trying to fill the gap and make sure the correct information is provided, but every time I call, Im hung up on or have to hang up after holding for over 15 mins. I wish the care in their office matched the wonderful care Ive received with the physicians.

I dont EVER want to be seen at this location again! It was dark as hell in the waiting room at 7am. The ultrasound tech, wish I could remember her name, blatantly told me no when I asked could I use the bathroom before she started, with no explanation of why. There was no paper on the chair/table I had to lie on. She didnt explain what she was doing or what I was looking at. The doc, that I have never seen before, came in for all of 5 secs. When I went to schedule my next ultrasound, I was left standing there because no one was at the window nor did anyone come. I had to walk to the other side to schedule an appt. Ridiculous!

I was referred to EVMS MFM by my OB when they saw something abnormal on my 20 week scan. After reading the reviews for this place I was really nervous as it sounds like a lot of people have had negative experiences. I wanted to share my experience to put other moms to be at ease who may be doing what I did and reading reviews before coming here for your first appointment, as being told you have a high risk pregnancy is already stressful/scary enough! A lot of people said they would call the office and it took them forever to get through to someone. I called once and waited on hold for 8 minutes, the woman I spoke to was friendly and helpful. I also saw people say the receptionists were rude, but mine was very nice and efficient. I saw people saying they were waiting hours for their scheduled appointments and I was only waiting for about 20 extra minutes before I got called back. My sonographer was wonderful, kind, and she answered all of my questions. The doctor did only pop into the room for all of about 30 seconds, but I didnt mind too much as the sonographer had already explained the situation/answered almost all my questions for me already. Everyone was great and overall my experience was very positive! They do have a strict no visitor policy due to COVID, so my spouse was not able to come with me, which is frustrating considering the situation but it is what it is. Thankfully I do not have to go back for anymore appointments with them but I just wanted to share that you cant always rely on reviews and you may end up having a great experience.

Hello,I had to switch my maternal care to this facility due to insurance change. However, I do not recommend this facility. The staff rushed everything to the point I had to remind them that they never tested me for gestational diabetes (mind you, I was 28weeks pregnant already) the tech stated it wasn’t in my chart, just my TDAP, then the doctor came in and stated something different 15min later.Moving forward to results, I failed my test, I had to take the three hour, failed and they stated the diabetes nurse would be calling. That was days ago!Another appointment their student could not find the fetal heart beat but before he started, ask why was I even there as though he didn’t know and I stated “I’m 6 months pregnant, it’s just a routine checkup” finally after 10min of not finding the heart beat the doctor and nurse came in.Also the Ultrasound tech that I had was very rude and I had to put her in her place. If she was having a bad, she needed to step out get some fresh air and send a different tech in or the doctor. The Lab Techs are horrible they have blown through my veins each time I’ve had blood work done and just fish in my arm and hand. I literally have huge bruises on my arms and hands. If I had the picture icon to post my bruises I would definitely share. The good thing is I just moved so hopefully my insurance can find me a facility on this side of the water before I’m due in December. One good thing is they have 2 doctors that seem very nice (Jennifer and one of the male doctors).

I am currently 19 weeks pregnant carrying twins. To start with the staff are very nice when I come to my appointment the longest I will have to wait would be 15 minutes nothing longer. Any questions I have the lady who does my ultrasound will answer and if I wanted a second opinion I’ll ask my doctor every ultrasound I get always comes to my phone so I am currently updated with all my babies ultrasounds.if I am at home and something comes to mind I will get on their app and ask a question then approximately 20mins I’ll get a answer this is if I don’t feel like calling. Of course you may have a off day however every place isn’t perfect.

To start, it is extremely difficult to reach the office by phone. secondly, the wait time in the lobby for my scheduled appointments have been extensive (45+ minutes) before being called back.also I have explained that I am having some unbearable symptoms to four different medical professionals within this office and nothing has been done to resolve it.it has taken my own research as a patient to suggest safe medications during pregnancy to treat it.I have still yet to receive any advice, recommendations or prescription to help with the problem.I have been told Im high risk by some doctors and low risk from others at this office, leaving me with confused information.Im very discontent with the healthcare Im receiving during my pregnancy and desperately looking elsewhere for maternal care at this point.

I was reading the review by Brittany below and have had some of the same issues. I had to remind them to do my glucose screening at 28 weeks. I failed and then I prepared to take the 3 hour glucose test 3 days prior. I spoke to a MA the evening before the test who told me I couldn’t come into the clinic to take the test and go to different lab Corp because they don’t do it there. That information was completely incorrect. That set me back a week from doing anything about my blood sugars. No one informed me I failed, during my ultrasound the tech kept saying that my baby was measuring big and I was thinking to myself could I have diabetes. That’s when I asked for someone to come tell me my results! I also was not informed of some other concerning lab work or interventions until a week or so later when I questioned them after looking in the patient portal and then showing up to my appointment. I’ve had bad experiences with EVMS in the past with my first pregnancy. It’s definitely scary and there are so many providers and staff involved!!! Dr. Porche is nice and listens but i don’t get to see her on a regular basis. I don’t understand how this is a high risk clinic

I have been keeping track of every time I call the scheduling desk. The average time for anyone to answer my call is 37 minutes. Today I am writing a review because I waited 40:35 today. I had to pick up a note regardless in the office so after 12minutes I got in my vehicle and drove to evms. Just before pulling into the parking lot my call was answered after waiting 40 minutes and 35 seconds, and transferred to the nurse. They hung up on me. Really getting sick of this. People who failed customer service class in college probably all work here now.

I use to speak highly of this facility but no more my recent experiences with them for last three months has been the worse. The Nursing and front desk staff have nasty attitudes even when you are polite and positive with them, the Doctors never even know what you are being seen for they ask you like you are suppose to know when they scheduled the appointment and oh if you are pain all they will tell you to do is to take tylenol and drink water no matter what symptoms you have because all of those symptoms are declared normal and they will tell you are fine because you appear physically normal even after repeatedly telling them how much pain you are in even after the a visit from the emergency room they still have minimal concern. I highly recommend people going somewhere because if a physician tells you that because you look physically fine while internally you are in pain do not go back. Because there are people who walk around with HIV and Cancer who look physically fine but they are not. Reconsider going here for prenatal care seriously.

They get u back quickly but were super thorough and answered all my question my nurse Kris she was amazing. The place is clean and organized.

This is for the Norfolk location only. Newport News and Virginia Beach were great.Terrible patient experience when trying to schedule an appointment. I am being referred to a maternal-fetal specialist by my physician who wanted me to make an appointment first before faxing a referral. I am traveling to the area on business which is why the process does not follow the ideal flow regarding the referral process.I asked if there were any open appointments for the specific test. The person that answered the phone asked if I had a referral. She then simply said a firm No once I said my doctor will fax a referral if there is an open appointment. I had to ask for clarification to her No - no to availability or no to scheduling without a referral? She answer with appointment with a sigh at the end.EVMS- Get a friendlier receptionist who knows how to ask the proper questions to understand what the patient needs and why. Patients who have high risk pregnancies dont need to deal with rude and annoyed receptionists when trying to schedule an appointment. The Newport News and Virginia Beach locations were at least willing ask questions to find out my situation and offer suggestions.

I am a high risk pregnancy and I want what is best for baby and I. The wait times are extremely long, plan to be there at least 4-6 hours for a 15 minute appointment, no matter what the appointment time, they are always running late. I dont ever see the same physician, which I dont mind. Ill see whoever is available. Jenna the Nurse Practitioner is awesome. I havent had a bad experience, my only complaint is the long wait times for the actual appointment.

Horrible. Just horrible. Do not go here if you want quality care. When I was first referred I was told that I would be called by them to schedule an appointment. I was never called and had to call them. My doctor told me that I would be called with the results of my tetra test, but I was never called (can you see a trend) and had to ask at the following appointment. Neither my doctor or my ultrasound tech informed me that I had an issue with my placenta and needed to schedule a follow-up ultrasound. If I hadnt switched practices I never would have known. Dont ever bother calling the nurse line because they dont return your calls. Oh, and I never received the pictures from my 20 week ultrasound despite complaining about it...

No continuity of care, and its doctors did not seem to bother to read my chart. They did not even inform me of medical conditions, negelected to tell me I had tested positive for gestational diabetes. Had to remind them to do tests at certain visits during my pregnancy. Not impressed. Also it was a little dirty. I did notice blood on the exam room curtains. And nearly every appointment was over an hour wait. C-section was ok. They spilled a lot of blood on the floor and husband had to step over it. One nurse spoke to me in a fake British accent...which was just something they do because they are bored I guess, but it was kind of rude. Oh and the hospital messed up the birth certificate paper work more than once. Put the wrong sex on the hospital record!
