I had an amazing experience at Akua! I recently got my chip for over a year of continuous sobriety- and that all began here. The staff were compassionate and it is clear they truly care about their clients. Akua is NOT ghetto and NOT one of those for profit treatment centers. It is unfortunate to read some people feel that way. They obviously have not been to very many other treatment centers in the area. Orange County has become a hub of treatment and recovery. In the beginning many of these treatment centers were reputable and had the goal of truly helping people. Like most industries, as these treatment centers grew, many other businesses followed suit- only for the wrong reasons. Akua is NOT one of these sketchy treatment centers. Prior to attending Akua I had never been able to maintain more than 30 days sober upon finishing my stay at a rehab. Their program helped me connect with a solid sober community for once I left. I can honestly say Akua saved my life during a time when I felt there was no point in continuing to be alive.

Ive put off writing this review for so long because Im still trying to deal with the trauma of going to Akua. I went to Akuas mental health program over a year ago and it has caused significant harm. If you are a high-functioning person who is being responsible and just needs some extra mental health support - DO NOT go here.The therapy was so lacking, I was constantly under-stimulated and the therapist I had was terrible and manipulative. Not to mention the house was incredibly dirty, the food expired years ago, they take you to AA meetings every single night even if you dont have alcohol issues (because they just group you together with the substance abuse houses) and they treat you like children.The people that went here seemed to come from very low-income homes, were uneducated and many came from the streets. No judgement on that, truly, I met some great people but the environment isnt really for mature, intelligent or high functioning people. It was like if the bad kids from high school all ended up in one place. Lots of what did you say to me b****, slamming doors, and fights. I dont mean to sound rude, but I dont really know how to describe the clientele without sounding rude.Most of the techs are former drug addicts and most of them vape all day, right into your face. So inappropriate. And our outings were to Circle K (to get cigarettes) and to the vape store.So if you need a place because life knocked you down, please look at other options. I felt like I was in juvenile detention, even though I am an adult, and it had Motel 6 vibes. Other residential facilities blow this place out of the water - massages, housekeeping, horses, true yoga, resorts, wholesome people, etc. And insurance will pay for those ones just as much as they will with Akua. At Akua youll be doing chores, washing your own bedding because it smells, washing their cars, breathalyzing twice a day and giving random urine samples as they watch. This is very demeaning to those who have no alcohol/drug issues and are at the mental health house.Its too hard for me to even think back to that horrific time to even write a proper review - I had to check out against medical advice because they made some accusations that were completely inappropriate, false and offensive. Then I was mocked as I left. I felt like I had to be the adult and yet I was infantilized. But they have been reported to the board, as well as my insurance and the CA govt. I have been told theyve had problems with Akua before.Dont let the nice website, nor name fool you. This was a joke of a place. I would truly never recommend it...BUT it seems to be a great place for those who need to be treated like a child. Honestly, some people may need that and it may work out great for them. But dont come here looking for any type of therapeutic anything. Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Its going to take years to undo the trauma from the couple of weeks I was there for.

I truly have Akua Mind & Body to thank for getting me through one of the hardest stages of my life and setting me up for continued success. Within minutes of arriving, the Akua staff made me feel comfortable, and throughout my 30 day program everyone went above and beyond my expectations.To get my life back, I needed a full Mind & Body overhaul. This is why I chose Akua.Now that I am back home, I am extremely thankful for their alumni program. After building such a bond with staff and fellow clients, it’s wonderful to see them at weekly meetings and regular bbqs and outings. My family and friends are forever grateful to Akua for bringing back the wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend they know and love.

I have never been to a detox facility before but have heard the stories and was worried. Akua Mind & Body Newport Beach place made the detox process easy and not as pianful as I had anticipated. The staff were very helpful and kind. So thankful I sought help here.

One year ago today I sent you my son. He was completely broken and hopeless. After 60 days you sent me back someone I knew he could be. Someone I prayed for so many years. Today we are celebrating 1 year of his recovery. Thank you to God and Akua.

I went to akua 3 almost 4 years ago . Although I have relapsed since and recovered again. I know I wouldnt of recovered a secods time if it qaawas for the help I seeked here. Im so VERY grateful for this facility. I learned A LOT about myssmy and felt it was beyond genuinely personal concern coming from every single staff member. I love all of you thank you so much ❤️

Akua saved my life. Went to detox/men’s residential and IOP all through akua. The staff and friends I made during my stay will be with me forever. Therapists and staff go above and beyond to actually help and understand you. And now I’m almost 6 months clean as of today.

My time in treatment at Akua was totally rewarding. They have a highly effective program with the best staff and councelors in California. The groups are excellent and beneficial with a great atmosphere. They were always there for me during a very difficult time in my life. I feel so blessed for the help they provided to me. The after care is wonderful with alumni meetings and special events. They have been so supportive in my recovery and there are many of them I can call any time for advice and help when needed. You cant go wrong making a phone call to them. Good Luck

I liked it so much I went twice! Before my second go around. I was homeless and hopeless. But I knew out of all the treatment centers nationwide Akua had the best staff, that were employed for the right reasons. I’m proud to say I graduated this facility. I continue to stay connected through their alumni program. Paintball was a blast!

Ill begin by expressing that the staff I had interaction with went above and beyond to help me feel comfortable and cared for. Being from Boston, that was a big concern of mine, not adjusting to the new surroundings.The care and attention I received has contributed to who I am becoming and I will forever be grateful for the people Ive met along the way. Akua also helped a great deal after I had completed my treatment by assisting me in a solid after care plan, providing me with a number of resources and contacts to aid me in the next step of my recovery. Akua has been a catalyst to a number of opportunities which has helped me establish myself here in California.

Akua Mind & Body Newport Beach is the best possible option for someone serious about recovering from alcohol addiction. The staff is educated, caring and dedicated. This facility changed my life and may well have saved it.

Akua is an incredible place to go if you or a loved one is struggling with addiction. They have a beautiful facility located in Costa Mesa. Akua has a wrecking ball of amazing therapists and staff. My experience with them was a great one and for that Im grateful. If you are looking for the best help you can get, Akua is the best place to heal your mind, body, and soul.

This place is amazing. I have been to a few treatment centers in the past but none compared with the experience I had with Akua. I struggled with addiction for 8 years, and in late 2016 I was yet again in need of help. Although, I was reluctant to check into yet another treatment facility. However, from the start this place made me completely comfortable. The staff (from detox all the way to the therapists) did an incredible job and really helped me throughout my entire time there. Id highly recommend this place to anyone who maybe looking for a great treatment center.

This place and everyone of the people here are amazing in so many different ways. Thanks to them i can live my life to fullest and be happy!

A very personal experience.. the staff and clinical team are 5+ stars.. they really work hard to get to core causes and conditions. I am truly greatful for akua for all their hard work to help me thru my hard time.

If you truly want it, you can get sober at any treatment center. You can even get sober without a rehab facility altogether, at that. But, if youre like me, that is extremely difficult to do.Having been to a few treatment facilities, Ive found that (generally) they are the same in most aspects. The structure, the group sessions, the outside meetings, etc. can become monotonous. In my opinion, the treatment centers job is only to plant a seed that hopefully grows into the WILLINGNESS to do what is necessary for people like me to stay sober long term. And the one thing that has the biggest influence on this, more than the standard group sessions and activities, is the people there.The people here are exceptional. From the Detox portion of treatment, to the techs in residential, the therapists, and the administration team - you get the sense that you are more than just a name on the list. I havent felt this level of care and individual attention at other facilities Ive been to. The technicians, who are the staff you spend the most time with, are very relatable, positive, and willing to help. They do not have the attitude of holier-than-thou Ive encountered at previous facilities. Theyre more than willing to talk to you on an even playing field, as almost all of them have had similar experiences.Through a combination of medication and therapy, I was able to get a handle on the chronic anxiety and panic disorder that has plagued me for the last decade. I feel that this was the primary reason for multiple relapses. The other treatment centers were never able to provoke me enough to find out what was really happening inside my mind and body. My life today is completely different than it was only a short time ago. I can look at myself in the mirror and be content with who I am, and it feels amazing.I have to give a special thank you to Christopher, one of the mens residential therapists. This man made a huge difference in my life, and I will be forever grateful.

I had been to different treatment centers before and what stood out to me about AKUA is the staff, they go above and beyond for the clients on a much more individual basis. The clinical the staff was amazing and I received great individualized therapy. The properties and housing were beautiful and located in great areas. I received amazing support from every one at AKUA and they gave me the foundation I needed to begin building a life in sobriety.

This was easily the best decision my family made! Akua has helped my uncle Mark with his addiction to alcohol and pain meds. They were very patient with us and helped us get insurance to pay for almost 100% of his treatment. Thank you guys, your truly a life saver.

While in the grip of addiction I came across akua on FB. The people in admission were kind and inviting and helped me through the entire intake process. Upon arriving to detox I was met an extremely caring staff. They helped me to be as comfortable as possible throughout my detox. The programing at residential was amazing. The staff was supportive and encouraging and the personal growth I experienced through working with the clinical team was amazing. My overall experience with akua was spectacular. I grew so much during my time there and then provided me with the tools I needed to begin living a life in sobriety.

I went through the akua detox and residential program and had a great experience. I had been through detox once before but this time was so different. Not only did they make sure that medically my detox was as comfortable as possible but even more than that, the techs at the detox took care of me with emotional support. they were able to relate to me being that most had gone through detoxes themselves. Their support kept me there when I wanted to leave. After completing detox I transferred to the residential program and began working closely with my therapist. We were able to undercover such deep rooted issues I never even knew I struggled with. I met amazing people and developed lasting relationships. Im so glad I made the decision to go with akua!

The clinical team is exclent as well as staff and addmisions. The facility is nice. All around a great experience!!

My experience with akua was nothing short of amazing. I have been to many treatment centers and akua stood out amongst them all. The difference was the staff. Everyone there from the techs to administers genuinely cared about my well being. When going through something as difficult as addiction you have to rely heavily upon the people around you. I was able to do that at akua throughout my entire stay. I owe my life to the entire staff, thank you all!

When I came to akua I was a very scared and had previously been to a different treatment center where I felt lied to, but upon arrival I quickly felt at ease and home with the warm staff that welcomed me. Everything about akua was different. From therapy to the way we were treated as clients was unique, in a good way. I looked up to the staff members. Akua help me find myself helped me become the woman I am today, they helped changeme from a scared girl to an adult. They gave me the foundation I needed to change my life. I will always be grateful to have made them my family.

The evening staff was horrible and when there was a mix up of detox meds, I didnt receive them and panicked. But that is just a small issue- a male staff member callled me a crybaby when all I needed was support. I felt like all 3 male staff members ganged up on me. When I decided to leave AMA in the middle of the night after arguing, screaming, and disrespecting me… I was given my phone and belongings and finally allowed to leave. The best part is there were three large men and none of them helps me out with my bags… I had four I thought I was saying for a long time. They just watch me as I carried them onto the street give me five minutes and threatened to call the police things are falling out of my bags and breaking and they were just laughing at me.it is sad because I wish I had done on my researchand gone somewhere else. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone and hopefully my testimony will save someone the pain that I went through.

After trying treatment before in the past I wasnt sure what would be different this time. When doing my research I came across AKUA and what stood out to me instantly was their focus on the clinical aspect. From the minute I made the decision to check myself in my experience has been amazing!While in detox I was treated with such love and compassion. The staff there did nothing but continually support me through all the ups and downs. It was obvious that they genuinely cared about me as an individual and their actions reflected that.Residential was also an amazing experience. The housing and accommodations were top notch and again, the staff was amazing. The groups were in depth and informative, the outings were fun and relaxing, and most importantly, the therapy sessions were extremely focused and helpful. I was able to work through things that issues I never knew I even had!After graduating the residential program I decided to stick with AKUA and joined their IOP program. I was surrounded by now close friends and still more, amazing staff. I was provided resources to reintegrate myself back into society one step at a time. I received help with resume building and finding a job and was able to land one almost instantly. The growth I experienced was continuous throughout my entire stay in treatment!I would absolutely recommend AKUA to anyone who is struggling with alcoholism and addiction!

They offer herbal supplements, personal diet plans, auqa therapy, massage therapy, etc etc and dont actually provide any of it. Some of the staff are great people. The facilities are usually clean and nice to live in at the time. But going here expecting a holistic approach when none of the employees even understand what that word means is not cool. Maybe they should be more honest. I left and life is amazing. No relapse or anything .. Didnt learn much here other than not to trust most of these for profit facilities in an over saturated market. Insurance companies are investigating alot of places in Cali because they lie and do things like give one clients meds to other clients because they dont prepare like they should. But thats OK for them to break the law apparently. If I wanted to get high and made stuff up that is one thing. But to want to succeed so bad that you came to get help in a holistic manner and not receiving any serivs they claim to have is not fair to people struggling. The average person coming from the street will love the junk food and couch but for some of us we strive to be great and they dont help with that... Poor unreliable service.

I am so glad that my higher power placed me in the presance of akua mind amd body. Before akua i had lost touch with who i was, not really knowing what tomorrow would bring. I was ashamed of who i was. Akua mind and body really helped me open up and heal. Akua is like a family to me. They have truely changed my life for the better. If you are going through akua. My suggestion to you is to open up and get as deep and uncomfortable as possible. Its not every day you get a golden opportunity to let your true colors shine :)

My experience with Akua has been phonomenal! i came from living in my car for a while, so being able to come to this place was a blessing. From the food up to the therapy and case management. Ive been to a few treatment facilities and can honestly say that this place was the most beneficial. I had room to be my own man with the supervison of professionals guiding me along the way.The culture of the place has been a foundation in my recovery and the way i live my life today. They have taught me that the treatment of my fellow man usually comes around full circle. The staff is knowledgable and i have learned alot from whomever Ive gotten in contact with.It really works if you put both feet in.
