I am so happy I chose Dr Cooper as my surgeon. My husband and I were very impressed with his competency as soon as we met him. He has a great bedside manner as he is calm, attentive to answering all questions and concerns, and he explains everything clearly. I felt very confident with him, and he and his team did not disappoint. I had been very fearful about having surgery, however, I went through it rather easily and experienced very little pain, only needing extra-strength Tylenol for a few days. I was also able to leave the hospital a few hours after I recovered. He and his team followed up with me over the next few days, and I was encouraged to call with any questions. I highly recommend Dr Cooper to anyone needing hip surgery.

Not only was the level of care extraordinary as my injuries involved multiple fractures which required surgical revision of my hip the degree of follow up and responsiveness to my needs post surgery were text book - no concern of mine was not immediately addressed and throughly explained to my satisfaction. My excellent recovery is truly a tribute to his talents.

Doctor Cooper has been a fantastic physician and “Sherpa” through the unavoidably awful experience of breaking my ankle. In our first interaction I found him immediately accessible , willing to indulge my questions with meaningful answers, patience and good humor. On one occasion I had trouble making it my appointment exactly on time, due to the difficulty of getting around with a healing injury (and a touch of poor planning on my part) Doctor Cooper was extremely understanding and accommodating oh this, seeing me even though I was well over a reasonable amount of time that a busy doctors office should be deferring an appointment. He helped me understand what I had to do to make sure my surgery wounds would continue to heal properly in a pragmatic and friendly manner. And the surgery itself, breaking all three bones of the ankle and each requiring hardware of its own to heal and become better was executed rather perfectly. I’m sitting here about seven weeks later with phones they’re completely healed and solid and strong.

Dr. H John Cooper is an incredible surgeon! I was born with narrow hip sockets. I had Anterior Left Hip Replacement at the end of Oct 2020 and recovered so quickly. In only 2 months I can do just about anything now (except running is put on hold). Dr. Cooper is brilliant, attentive, and has a terrific bed side manner. He listened to my questions and concerns. He added length to my left side and I now walk evenly, without pain. I am on the younger side for Hip Surgery and Dr. Cooper made my incision inconspicuous by my bikini line. I LOVE my new hip. Thank you Dr. Cooper!

Im 14 years old and had end-stage arthritis in my right hip which caused constant pain every single day. There was no more cartilage left, so it was just bone rubbing on bone. My Mom took me to visit Dr. Cooper to schedule a total hip replacement. I thank God almighty because going to him was the best decision ever made. Dr. Cooper was kindhearted, friendly, compassionate, polite, and explained the procedure well enough for us to understand what was going to happen. I have a high level of respect for him. He and his team made no rush and took their time to ensure everything was done properly. Its been two weeks since the operation and my recovery is going great so far. Soon Ill be able to walk normal again, pain free. God bless you Dr. Cooper! 💖

I am an avid tennis player , a swimmer , and a bike rider , and 3 month after the first surgery, I was playing tennis 3-4 times a week , and then every day . I also walk 5-8 miles a day . I was pain free , and I was able to compete , and win many matches. Dr . Cooper is a superb surgeon , and in addition he is the nicest person . He took his time to answer every question I had , and the results are Fantastic . Now , 8 weeks post op , I am progressing nicely, and I am looking forward to resume playing tennis in one month .. I spoke to other surgeons who know him well and he got the highest praises as a surgeon, and as a physician. I highly recommend Dr John Cooper . Sincerely. Barry Brahver .

Three years ago, I had a Full Knee Replacement procedure [of the right knee] performed by Dr. Cooper at CUMC. The entire experience was a great success. I havent had any complications whatsoever, have virtually no scar and have been able to walk, hike mountain trails and take long bicycles rides without effort ever since. It changed my life dramatically, after many years of suffering. I have Dr. Cooper and his incredible staff to thank for that.I now have a slight issue with my other knee and was due for an annual visit, so I made an appointment for a date within a week. Surprisingly quick. Phone support was efficient and, within minutes of hanging up, I received an email confirming my visit and and it was entered into the My Chart app with check-in paperwork immediately available. On the morning of my appointment I received a call from the Intake staff to make sure my diagnostic x-ray was timed well, prior to my seeing Dr. Cooper later that day. I was very impressed with that level of follow-up.On arriving at Dr. Coopers office, Intake staff were incredibly helpful, pleasant and efficient. They made sure my chart was completely accurate and up-to-date. I saw other patients receiving the same level of care. The Intake Nurse was awesome during the initial review of systems and taking vitals. She was very friendly, thoughtful. listened well and answered questions I had. She was also very careful about patient ID verification and made sure to ID the correct leg before Dr. Cooperbegan his examination.Dr. Cooper gave me more than adequate time to explain the reasons for my visit. He listened carefully, asked insightful questions and offered me an understandable assessment along with several possible approaches to resolving the symptoms I was experiencing with my left knee. He also confirmed that my previous knee replacement was still rock solid! After agreeing to a solution Dr. Copper offered, I received immediate treatment in an immaculately clean exam room that was comfortable. A day after my treatment, my knee feels so much better, thats such a relief.I have great confidence in Dr. Cooper. He looks you in the eyes as hes listening, then he always addresses each concern and explains things thoroughly, following through to a resolution you have a choice in making. Its collaborative.Dr, Copper has a fantastic support team who all possess exemplary skills, are great listeners and offer understanding and empathy throughout the appointment. It would be wrong not to mention how safe the environment felt in this time of Covid-19. I had no concern or fear of exposure during my visit. All CUMC Entry staff wore protective equipment, my temperature was taken and I answered the standard COVID-19 questions regarding travel, exposure or feeling any symptoms. The elevators have clear floor marking for proper social distancing. There are Purell dispensers at many points of entry. The Waiting Area had every safety measure in place and was working well. It was comfortable, clean and there were clear markings on seats to ensure proper distancing. Every staff member wore appropriate protective covering and the rooms were spotless.I cant recommend Dr. Cooper and his team highly enough. On a scale of 1 to 5, Id give a rating of 6.

I am 55 years old and have been athletic my entire life. The last 2 years of my life I have been debilitated with pain. When I was told I needed a bi lateral hip replacement I was nervous as expected. I literally spent months researching the various procedures and consulting numerous surgeons. Time and time again Dr Coopers name came up. After meeting with him and later consulting directly with him via phone to assure me and answer any questions and concerns that I had, I finally scheduled surgery, and had both hips replaced at the same time. It was the best decision I could have ever made. My surgery went perfect. I was up walking with a walker hours after surgery. Within days I was walking with a cane, and basically no pain. In 9 days I was walking unassisted and feeling great. I am currently 5 weeks from surgery and I need to remind myself that I had surgery. I am back at the gym and enjoying life with my family.Coincidentally, when my 85 year old father (with a heart condition) needed his right hip replaced 4 weeks after my surgery, there was no question who I was bringing him too. Prior to surgery he was basically unable to walk, within 2 weeks he is mobile, has very little discomfort and is already looking to get rid of his cane.I am typically a critical person by nature and expect a certain level of professionalism. This experience surpassed any expectation I could have imagined. I honestly feel blessed to have had my surgery done by Dr. Cooper. In roughly 2 short hours, he gave me back my life, pain free. If you need a hip replacement, dont think of it as a negative.... when you have Dr. Cooper perform your surgery, it is a new lease on life. I would not allow anyone I know to ever go to anyone else. Dr. Cooper is the best.

With in one visit I was given more xray’s to assess my knee and told “this is fixable”. I can repair this. I am walking better than I ever have. Very little pain after surgery. Excellent staff. Very kind and caring. Dr Cooper himself calling me at home to make sure I was doing okay. GREAT SURGEON.

This August, my grandmother (70 years old) had a bilateral knee replacement surgery with Dr. Herbert Cooper, and she had a fantastic experience with him and his team. Dr. Cooper was extremely professional, polite, and caring, and made her feel secure and at ease. Though this was a risky surgery for my grandmas age, it went incredibly smoothly, and the recovery was very quick and painless. She stopped taking painkillers 2.5 months after the procedure, and both of her knees healed phenomenally. My grandmother is walking very comfortably now, her legs are straight, and her scars have recovered very well. We are all very grateful to Dr. Cooper and his team of anesthesiologists, as well as everyone at the NY Presbyterian at Columbia University: the nurses, the physical therapists, the staff, and everyone else who was involved in helping my grandma get back on her feet. Thank you all for your expertise, professionalism, dedication, hard work, and care!

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Cooper. The takeaway of my review is this: Dr. Cooper is a rarity in the world of doctors and specifically orthopedics -- not only is he an excellent physician/surgeon and the only person I would trust with my health and body, but he is also an incredible human being with a comforting and kind bedside manner. If you want more detail, please keep reading: I was unfortunately in a horrific accident where slipped and fell on black ice, and cracked the head off my femur and broke my left hip. I was alone and scared, and taken to the ER for emergency surgery. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to have Dr. Cooper as my surgeon that day. Not only did he go out of his way to talk to me as I was being wheeled into the operating room to assure me he would take good care of me, but he also went above and beyond by calling my mom before and after the surgery to let her know that I was in good hands and that I was going to be okay, and to come meet me at the hospital to be there when I woke up from the operation. He saved my life that day (literally), and then continued to check on me and treat me holistically when we saw that my case was further complicated by a rare bone disease that was not allowing me to heal. It has been quite the unanticipated journey over the past 5+ years since I met Dr. Cooper, and each step of the way, he has continued to exemplify excellence on every level and has demonstrated that he is someone who improves the lives of everyone he touches - whether it be his patients or the members of his wonderful team (his nurse Christina is also absolutely amazing)! Dr. Cooper compassionate, patient, responsive, thorough and thoughtful. And while he is obviously busy, he never makes you feel rushed or dismissed. He is a great listener who not only makes the process a dialogue, but also makes his patients feel heard and validated. He genuinely cares about and is invested in his patients well being and has their best interest at heart. He is a true rare and previous gem in the world of orthopedics - he is an amazing doctor, an outstanding human being, and has a comforting bedside manner. He treats you like family and I hope he never retires (selfishly). I trust him implicitly and explicitly and wish I could give him 10 out of 5 stars if I could. Dr .Cooper is the best of the best and I hope whoever reads this is lucky enough to have him as their doctor as well - there is no one better!

I came to Dr. Cooper while recovering from a staff infection in my left artificial knee. I could not be happier with the treatment I received which included two surgeries, one to remove the knee while antibiotics killed the infection and the other to replace the knee that had been removed. It was difficult surgery that doctors at HSS refused to undertake, notwithstanding that the infection was raging at the time. He was a life saver and always professional, sympathetic and kind. I would recommend him without any hesitation whatsoever.

Ive had an incredible recovery from a total right hip replacement thanks to the surgical skills of Dr. H. John Cooper. I could not possibly overstate how impressed I was with both Dr. Cooper and his entire staff. I came to Dr. Cooper in October, 2015, after a violent fall in May of that year. I was 1st diagnosed with a right inguinal hernia, which was repaired in July, then an August MRI showed what appeared to be a fracture of the femur. Dr. Cooper explained that it wasnt a basic fracture, but instead damage to the top of the femur connecting to the hip joint and a full right hip replacement would be needed. Dr. Coopers surgical assistant, Natalie Perez, was extremely professional, patient and kind, making the preparation for this procedure very smooth. My post-surgery recovery has been nothing short of remarkable. I was released from the hospital the following day, havent taken a pain killer since being released and was walking unaided within 10 days. I could drive within 8 days and could walk up & down stairs reciprocally after just 11 days! I did assiduously follow Dr. Coopers advice to constantly walk on it, ice the area to reduce the initial swelling and continuously weight bear on the new joint. The dissolvable sutures had virtually disappeared within 3 weeks. I was extremely fortunate to have connected with Dr. Cooper. There is NO ONE I could recommend more highly than Dr. H. John Cooper!
