Ive seen many specialists in the past several years trying to understand the back pain I am experiencing. Explanations were always confused or incomplete. Dr. Fu examined some imagery, asked me questions, and gave me a clear picture of what options I have. So, yes, very satisfied with Dr. Fu.

This was my first meeting with Dr. Fu but I found him a sympathetic listener and very responsive to my questions.Since this was an initial meeting I would be able to respond more fully if we had had a more substantive encounter—like if I had had a actual medical procedure or hands-on examination. This is directed to the people doing this survey. Every time I have any kind of appointment or interaction, whether with a medical doctor or buying cat food at Petco, I immediately get sent a survey like this one. I frequently don’t respond because I find it an annoyance and without any real relevance.

I had never had surgery previously. Dr. Fu was terrific in explaining the procedure, managing expectations. While I am still in the recovery stage I have already seen improvement. Additionally, he has a team that has been wonderful. During the first weeks at home, I called the office many times with questions or seeking advice. If someone was not available at that time, I would receive a return call within a matter of minutes and would be provided with answers to my queries. Dr. Fu and his team are first-rate.

From the first office visit to discuss my spinal issues, reviewing the recommended procedure ( spinal fusion ), to the surgery itself met all my expectations. Dr. Fu’s office and support team handled all of my paperwork, addressed all my concerns in a timely and very professional manner. My experience with NY Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center was excellent. The pre-surgical process the day of surgery was efficient and the medical staff were friendly and informative. My surgery by Dr. Fu went smoothly as anticipated and I was symptom free directly afterwards. His surgical team monitored my recovery and pain levels to make me as comfortable as possible during my 3 day stay in the hospital. My recovery at home went smoothly under his staff’s guidance and I am now back at work and enjoying life once more. I cannot say enough about my positive experience. I would recommend Dr. Fu at Weill Cornell Brain and Spine if you have a spinal issue. They also have Spine Time on the web to help answer many questions that patients have. The dr knew what I needed. He was clear and straight forward! He gave me options but also told me what would be the likely outcome! I chose to trust in him and I am glad I did! Dr. Fu has opened the door to me being relieved of chronic pain and discomfort from cervical stenosis. After receiving ongoing treatment for this condition at another medical center, involved with my health care, I decided to seek other treatment options. Dr. Fu recommended that surgery was needed due to the serious nature of my condition. He explained that there would be some limitation to the movement of my neck after the procedure, and added that if this spinal issue was not corrected it may lead to me losing the function of my arms and legs. Dr. Fu’s reputation is stellar when it comes to breaking down in detail, treatment, procedures and vital information for his patients to feel assured that they are in good hands. This I consider as crucial, since I have serious concerns about the possible negative outcomes of surgery.

As always the staff is extremely courteous and caring. Dr. Fu in my opinion is very precise, compassionate, and to the point. I think he is a very conscientious surgeon and he has helped me greatly.

Extremely thoroughTook lots of time to explain the surgery I need.After seeing other specialists I chose him to do the operation.

He’s a great doctor did a great job on the back but when you came back to getting back to work on time complete Failure I lost another week of work and to vacation days sure minute sit down to look at my x-rays and say yes you’re good to go back to work he was in your office. What did night and would see me because he didn’t feel like it was pressed to let the staff it took two minutes explain to them I need just go back to work and work since July It was Thanksgiving week. He still said no even though Staff told me To come to the city get my x-rays and 11 AM then with the city 3 PM to see him. He still refused to see me he was there until 430 I got there at 3:20. Completely unnecessary and disrespectful.

Dr. Fu was very thorough in his explanation of my health in the current stage of recovery. And he was able to help me understand what was needed on my part and the doctors to continue and further my recovery,I also appreciated his easy going manner and great sense of humor. Check in was quick, patient and polite. Dr Fu’s NP saw us within 5 minutes after checking in. She was to the point, very warm and obviously was quite thorough updating Dr Fu because he came in fully aware of extensive history and issues and quite warmly explained what was necessary. He patiently answered all questions. He was never arrogant or patronizing. My surgery was smoothly scheduled. Superb experience despite difficult circumstances.

I had a 99% stenosis in my lumbar that caused tremendous nerve pain in both legs, hips, feet. Dr Fu operated on me eight weeks ago. Except for the first week after surgery, I had absolutely no further pain! It was remarkable. I could not have lived with the amount of pain I experienced prior to the surgery. Now, though I am still getting my strength back to my leg muscles, I have no issues walking for any length of time!

The office and nursing staff are always very helpful and friendly.This is my 2nd visit with Dr. Fu and he was informative and knowledgeable. Well first of all there is really no near by parking.Dr.Fu was very nice, but there was nothing he could do for me right now. But he did refer me to another Dr. who might be able to help me. The staff was very nice. I would recommend this medical center.

Dr. Fu and his team did an excellent job of explaining the ALIF procedure vs. the XLIF approach proposed by another surgeon. The scheduling and pre surgical work up was well coordinated and thorough. Recovery and admission for 2 day hospital stay was complicated by lack of bed space. Subsequent morning follow-ups by surgical residents were rushed and lacked interest in following up on questions and requests. NP Amanda Fazio was excellent in post discharge appointments.

Totally waste of time. I was hospitalized for 3 days because of back pain. The hospital referred me to Dr. Fu dont know why because at the hospital they already told me that I didnt need surgery. so I wait one week to see him with pain so he can tell me the same thing. The staff was cold (like robots). He saw me for 3 minutes to tell me that I dont need surgery and I should see a pain management REALLY? Just a horrible experience he has zero personality and empathy.

I had my spinal fusion with Dr. Fu. He was my third medical opinion and I decided to stay with him because Dr. Fu went to the root of my problem and provided excellent care.Other providers had me “going in circles” and it was very frustrating. One provider said “I would see god first before my insurance approves my surgery”. Meanwhile, this provider gave me a high level of opiates to manage my pain.Dr. Fu made his medical recommendation, my insurance approved it, and he answered all my questions and provided detailed information about my procedure. I am amazed at my hospital stay with Weiss Cornell NYP ! I refuse to go any where else for my future medical treatment.

This is second consult with Dr Fu for degenerative spine / scoliosis. I had spine surgery many years ago sand my spine is now deteriorating, I fell almost 2 months ago and my pain became severe. I decided to call Dr Fu again to re-evaluate my status as I haven’t seen in 2 years. I always have a positive experience with his staff and Amanda his NP. Dr Fu is always kind and patient. He informed me of my test results, required surgery, rehabilitation and recovery time frame . I would probably let him be the one to do the surgery, I have had other consults prior . I had been diagnosed with having Cervical Spinal Stenosis by my Neurologist. he referred me to have my Spinal surgery done by Dr. Fu. he said that he is one of the best Neurosurgeons that he knew of to treat this condition.when I met Dr. Fu for my consultation he was very nice, and carefully explained all of the details involved with my surgery. later that week, after I had my surgery I was in the recovery room and took a short nap.after I woke up, I suddenly noticed that I couldnt move my right hand or arm. at which point I was absolutely terrified. I told a Nurse what had happened and within minutes, Dr. Fu and his medical team appeared and very quickly rushed me into an MRI and then back into the operating room for surgery after it was found on the MRI that I had a blood clot known as an Epidural Hematoma, something that from what I have read is a very rare condition after spinal surgery. to make a long story short, Dr. Fu and his medical team evacuated or rather removed the Epidural Hematoma during a second surgery. they probably saved my life based on what Ive read in a variety of medical studies and journals online about this condition and the potential of it being fatal.Words escape me to fully describe how very sincerely thankful I am and will always be for the rest of my life for what Dr. Fu and his medical team did for me that day.I want to also very, sincerely say thank you to all of the Nurses and all of the other medical professionals and other staff members at Weill Cornell, who took very good care of me during my stay in the Hospital and helped me in my recovery.Stephan van Holt.

Dr Kai Ming Fu has treated myself and my wife for spinal issues. Me for an auto accident that caused a compression fracture of my thoracic spine and I lost feeling in my right hand. I have spinal issues so as Dr Fu told me we are going to be on a life long relationship. He is not looking to operate, he wants to use the the least invasive methods first as part of the team at Weill Cornell Brain and spine. Dr Fu avails all on this multidisciplinary team to work with him. Recently I was diagnosed with a meningioma in my cranium. Dr Fu told me he does this operation BUT he sent me immediately to Dr Schwartz a pioneer in this field. Dr Kai Ming fu has treated and always will treat me and my wife as his family. He said to me recently I’d send my family to Dr Schwartz. Now for my spine it’s Dr Fu. He once operated on my wife with an abnormal spine and within a day she was walking and regained the feeling in her hands. Astounding indeed. Dr Fu is part of Weill Cornell Brain and spine that world news reports as the third best performing hospital in the fields of neurological disorders as well as neurological surgery every year. Keep in mind it’s the doctors who perform miracles constantly who attain the hospitals ratings. Dr Fu is at the top of his field, in fact not my opinion.
