I discovered Salon Jatel a couple of years ago and have been a regular since. The stylists there seem to really understand the art of hair. I had my hair styled by Harumi. She totally gets it! While I give her the general direction, she takes the way my hair flows and moves with it. I highly recommend her!

Got my hair cut by Shu and he did such a great job! Not only was he very knowledgeable about the right cut (thinned layers) for my hair type (dry and thick), but he was super friendly! We had the most fascinating conversation as he did my hair. I highly recommend him!!! :)

I had a haircut with Tyler - going from slightly below shoulder-length hair to a pixie cut, a dramatic change. I showed Tyler 4 pictures, specifying the length at the back, fringe, and sideburns. He explained what was/wasnt possible and managed expectations. More than that, he sat with me for a long time trimming and sculpting, shaping, and really ensuring that the haircut was perfect. It meant so much to me because it was my first time going that short (pixie cut) and I needed that reassurance. He also taught me how to style it with matte texturizing paste. I appreciate his careful eye, his talent and skill, and his manner. Will definitely revisit!

When I finally chose (in 2019) to let go of my long hair for a short - pixie length cut - I did a bit of research first. I am so grateful to have found Salon Jatel. Tyler has given me great cuts - considering my hairs texture and what would compliment my face. So glad I found this place. Ive been looking for a new stylist and Shu is it. It was my first appointment at Salon Jatel and Shu truly took the time to evaluate my hair (its very damaged), without judgement, and spent time with me explaining what would be best for my hair. I took his advice and am glad I did. Hes detailed orientated and thorough. He gave me great advice about next steps so I can eventually get the color I want but the color he gave me now is beautiful and natural looking. I have gotten compliments. I would also go to him for a cut. He only cut my bangs but did it with great precision so they look better than they have before. I also saw the short hair cut he gave the client before me and it was gorgeous!

I cannot speak more highly about Salon Jatel and am so happy I made the 2.5 hour trek into NYC and took a chance on them. I was specifically searching for a Japanese salon to take care of my and my mothers sometimes fickle Japanese hair and saw Salon Jatels excellent reviews online. So, I called the day before and made an appointment for myself and then called back again to book my mother at the same time. Our appointments were on a Sunday, and we had an easy ride into the city and were able to park right in front of the salon (on-street parking is free on Sunday!). We truly hit the jackpot. Upon walking in, we were happy to see the salon was following Covid protocols with temperatures being checked and each station sectioned off. Everyone, both staff and clients, were wearing masks and we felt very safe. We were taken on time (actually, early!) and warmly greeted by the stylists. Everyone at Salon Jatel is/was so pleasant, accommodating and nice. Even more important, all of the stylists at Salon Jatel are extremely skilled in their craft. In just speaking and listening to all of them, you can tell they are highly trained and genuinely care about making their clients look their best. I was lucky enough to witness fantastic haircut after haircut while I received my own fabulous haircut and color from Kumi and my mother received hers from Harumi. I went from a just okay shoulder-length hairstyle I had maintained from a local salon in my state to a perfectly coiffed inverse bob that I cant get enough of! I have received so many compliments since my visit. Harumi also transformed my moms hairstyle from Covid hair to a short, precision hairstyle and highlights that she would be able to easily maintain. We really appreciated Kumi and Harumi taking the time at the beginning of our appointments to understand exactly what our hair goals were and not only executing on them, but far exceeding our expectations. Their skills are incredible and it shows. Both Kumi and Harumi also made sure to show each of us exactly how to wash and dry, style and maintain our new hairstyles so we would be able to keep them looking just as awesome as they did when we left the salon (and we have been able to thanks to our perfect haircuts, which makes it that much easier). Came in for a consult regarding hair that’s been damaged by years of Japanese hair straightening and hair coloring.I was in search of something that was more organic or with less chemicals.Tyler listened to my concerns and advised me on the best route to treat my hair. He suggested the Silqy treatment which I had done the same day. I had Silqy treatment and root touch up service done, one after the other.The salon did not talk me into buying any “special products “ to care for my newly treated hair. Expert advice and care received from Tyler and Jenny.I’ll definitely be back and will also recommend to my friends and family.I hope you give them a try and see for yourself the great work done at this salon.

I searched for years to find a salon, and a barber, that I liked. About 3-4 years ago, I found Harumi at Salon Jatel. Since then, Ive never even considered getting my hair cut by someone else. She is always quick, detailed, and she gives you a scalp massage at the end! Seriously, she could have given me an accidental mullet and I would still pay in full because of that scalp massage. 10/10

Tyler is a tru artist and stylist, having been a customef for over 15 years, hair color, cuts and styles have always been exceptionally beautiful! This last visit I had to have a horribly bad hair color done by a different salon which was the worst nightmare, (because of Covid it was hard for me to travel) Tyler was able to correct it with his expertise and I couldn’t be happier😊😊❣️

I’ve been going to Tyler for 7 years and have never left the place not feeling fabulous. This last time he worked with me to realize a more specific and daring vision going from long to short hair and it turned out feeling exactly right and beautiful! Needless to say I will be back.

It took years to find a reasonably-priced stylist that cut my hair exactly how I asked, and knew how to cut it to make sure it looked good in between cuts (even if I was coming in a week or two late). Both Harumi and Tyler have cut my hair over the past 6 years and I cant be more grateful. Friendly staff and everyone is taking the proper precautions with hygiene, including mask-wearing.

Leslie is a consummate pro and is so on top of Covid rules. If you have curly hair, she is the lady to go to!

This has been my regular haircut place for years. Harumi is wonderful and knows how to cut my hair for my face, style and most importantly, lifestyle (she knows my beauty routine is minimal to say the least). It’s not a cheap haircut but it’s so so worth it. Highly recommend!

Absolutely a beautiful experience. Tyler created magic. My style is short, yet super feminine and so stylish. A few strategically placed lowlights gave my hair definition and contrast yet preserved a natural look that I love. Best of all it is s breeze to recreate at home. I recently had my hair done in this salon for the first time 2 weeks ago. I am older 60s. And I have red hair that is short. To say I was happy with the result is a understatement. Everyone at the salon is friendly and u feel immediately comfortable. My stylist was named Anna. When I say stylist I mean it. She told me how it should be cut due to cowlicks. How it should be colored to be more flattering to my skin tone. The end result was fabulous!!i never received so many compliments and as a result I take better care of my hair. I cannot wait to see Anna again she was knowledgeable and a true stylist. And they use L’Oréal which is the only coloring I can use. I never write reviews but felt that this experience warranted it. Trust me it’s worth it. 5 stars to start🌸

Tran is hands down the best hair stylist Ive ever been to.Not only have I gone through quite a few hair stylists in my time, but Im also an incredibly demanding when it comes to my hair. I actually started with Tran back in Atlanta about 6 years ago. I and have followed her religiously since. Even after moving away I would save my hair for as long as 6 months till I could get back to her. Even though I occasionally pushed the envelope between coloring and cut, my hair always grew out spectacularly. Kinda crazy how long it would last actually.Tran is a master colorist, specializing in balayage as well as foils. She can do anything from the perfect umbra, hair repairs, to all over highlights. Ive sent all of my girlfriends to her over the years, all of which has become a steady repeat clients just like myself. Shes also a lover of long hair, sporting a mane thats about a yard long, so all you ladies out there who want to find that perfect stylist who wont cut too much off shes your girl.I really cant say enough about what an amazing hair dresser Tran is. If you are lucky enough to have found Tran know youll be in good hands and most likely will become just as fanatical about her as I am.

My first visit was welcomed and easy. Tyler did a good job of cutting my hair and styling. One of the assistants, Anna had one of the softest touches washing my hair and drying it. Over all, well run salon.

This is my spot for bang trims. They always know exactly what to do and they can fix any kind of botched bangs. They are the sweetest and makes you feel so welcome even for a quick trim. This salon offers high quality, highly talented hairstylists! They are precision haircutters and experienced in hair coloring. When a stylist can highlight dark brown hair without turning it orange Id say (other than its magical) thats experienced! Ive coming to this salon for about 2 years now -- and I live in N.J.
