First time going to this salon. And first time I actually leave a salon and I am ecstatic with the results. Ivy was amazing and she did exactly what I wanted. Danielle did amazing on my cut as well. 100% recommended them specifically.

Its my first time leaving a review of a business. I had a good experience the first time I went in to get a haircut and highlights, so I booked another appointment. Unfortunately, I had a health emergency and had to call to reschedule my appointment 2hrs in advance. I understand this is not good for the business, but emergencies happen. I was told by the manager that I would be charge half of the services costs ($250) for late cancellation. This came as a big surprise as I wasnt warned about their 24hr cancellation policy when I called to make the appointment and they didnt asked me for credit card info either, so they must have had it on file from my first visit (without my consent, very unprofessional). Yes, Covid has put a lot of stress on hair salons, but these have also been difficult times for everyone. I would have expected a little bit more sympathy and understanding.

I have naturally thin hair and since going with my natural color, white, a few years ago, couldn’t find anyone who didn’t make me look like an “old lady”. Saw Angie and I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new cut.

Prior to seeing Melanie at Butterfly Studio I went to the same person for 20 years. I was a little nervous to see someone new but my hair just felt like a chore and I really just had no pride in it. Melanie takes the time to get to know my hair, how it dries, how I style it, how often I wash it and then teaches me how to better take care of it. In the 2.5 years of seeing her my hair has never been healthier, I get compliments all the time. Melanie really does an incredible job with layering, if you have thick hair that frizzes up she as just brilliant and getting things under control. 10/10 would recommend.

I wanted to come here for so long! Amazing location, super clean salon and super nice staff. I came here for a haircut with Alexis and couldnt be more happy! She listened to my concerns and did an amazing haircut for my lost shaped curly hair. The salon feels very safe in this COVID-19 time. They clean the stations very often and I saw them sanitizing all I touched. Will be back!

I’ve been going to butterfly studio for the better part of two years now and let me tell you, if you’re in need for a good hair stylist look no further! I cannot tell you how many times I’ve ended up with botch haircuts. Alexis takes her time cutting my hair and even when i venture off try a new hair stylist she always receives me so warm and attentively. I can truly say when I’m in the chair with her I’m completely confident I am going to end up with a beautiful haircut. When i had waist length hair she layered it beautifully. When I drastically and dramatically cut it myself during covid she fixed it she left me with a cute bob that I never imagined would look so good.I’ve gotten my hair colored with Raluca numerous times. She truly is an artist with hair dye. I constantly get compliments on my color. My hair never feel fried and i’m a dark brunette getting cool toned highlightsGetting an appointment is usually super easy. They reschedule you with ease via email or phone. I’ve literally gotten email responses hours after reaching out. Front desk staff is also lovely. Cannot recommend this salon enough.

This review is for my amazing hair stylist Alexis that I’ve been going to for over 5 years. Wherever she goes I follow unless it’s out of NYC, then we will have a problem. She’s very professional and a fun personality person. She does any hair style I ask for, even when I wanted an undercut with a design and it came out amazing. Highly recommend her!

I used to go to the Butterfly Studio when I lived in Connecticut. Kevin did my hair. I would drive into NYC to see him and to have him do my color. He is fantastic. I miss him and I miss those days. Id nearly give anything to go back and live up there again and do it all again.

Went to get my hair cut from Alexis and she was fantastic! She listened to my requests, cutting my hair to the perfect length! She was quick, thorough and made me comfortable during this COVID period. The salon was clean and the employees were all wearing masks! I will definitely be going back to this salon for Alexis service!

Fantastic staff, exceptional service. Would definitely recommend to friends and family! They are nothing less than AMAZING! I’m pretty picky about my cuts and its always hard to find someone that does exactly what I’m looking for.

This is a wonderful salon, and feels safe even during COVID. I have seen Dana T. twice now, and she is brilliant - I cannot recommend her highly enough. I am always nervous about someone new touching my hair, but specifically chose Dana because I had read she was good with long hair. She is friendly, professional and extremely talented. My first cut looked amazing for 6+ months in between appointments because of how well she had shaped the long layers.I also wanted to comment on their COVID safety measures. The salon is operating at reduced capacity to ensure guests are safe. My temperature was taken immediately upon entering, and they have disposable masks available. They leave space between each client, even at the hair washing station. I have been extremely cautious during COVID, but even I felt safe here!

Butterfly is the best in New York. Kattia is the consummate pro, and Angie is the absolutely best stylist there is. I send everyone I know to her.

I read so many raving reviews and thought I would try this salon out for a men’s cut with the owner.Front desk staff was too busy speaking with one another rather than accommodating guests.First, my wash lasted about 30 seconds - is my hair even clean?Next, I had the consultation with Katya and was unhappy with my results. A good haircut should last, mine only lasted for about a week.After $175 men’s cut for 15 min and 30 seconds (for the wash). Honestly, a barber has cut my hair better than this.The prices are high end but I wouldn’t consider this salon to be luxury or high end at all.It is safe to assume that I will not be returning to this salon for any services.

I come to see Tamara (she specializes in blondes) and she has been so incredible at keeping my hair healthy throughout it’s many color phases. She is so friendly and honest- and also very professional. All of the staff are energetic, hospitable, and attentive. They offer many flavors of water and other refreshments and I have had incredible blowouts from many people here including Julian, Eddie, and a few others. I imagine everyone is excellent (as I’ve loved every blowout) and I always leave feeling not only happy about my hair but also uplifted and rejuvenated.

Ok Im a little obsessed with hairstylist Jill after she totally transformed my hair (and life) when I asked for an easy low maintenance cut which required no styling and she nailed it. Everyday I wake up, shower, put minimal product in and it looks great. Im literally saving around 2.5 hrs per week on my hair, its incredible. Jill is awesome, so sweet and fun, HIGHLY recommended!

I got my hair colored today by Nina. I have thick and dark Asian hair and Nina was able to get it super light and turn me into a modern day grandma! No breakage and I have received so many compliments already! I may have finally found my colorist in NY! I no longer have to get my hair done in NY anymore.

Taylor was absolutely the best! He was knowledgeable and talked me through everything. He listened and gave great advice for my hair. I always get nervous because I have extremely curly hair, but he made me feel comfortable and my hair came out fantastic! I will definitely be going back!

I am completely disappointed with the service at butterfly studio. I have been going there for highlights with Tracy for many many years and have always been very happy with the color and the blow outs. The haircuts are average, but Ive never complained.I went a couple of weeks ago for the cezanne treatment, which is supposed to reduce frizz. Ive tried blow drying my hair dry and also letting it air dry, with and without product, but the frizz is still there. I bought the shampoo that Jennifer recommended, so I know thats not the problem. I called to ask if the treatment could be redone, since it didnt seem to take. I went in for them to see my hair, at which point they washed it and insisted that I dont have any frizz - while it is soaking wet. Of course I dont have frizzy hair when its soaking wet!! I want to be able to wear my hair dry.They did nothing to correct the problem. They did not even offer to repeat the treatment. After paying $450 for the treatment and $50 for the tip, I see absolutely no difference in my hair.I think its completely dishonest and unethical to charge through the roof and provide no results. I will not be going back to butterfly for highlights or anything else.

I wanted to go blonde and showed a picture of exactly what I wanted. I was told that going from brunette to blonde was too drastic of a change, but that they would still try it out. I literally looked the exact same after 2 hours. Spent an ungodly amount of money for a few streaks of bleach. Afterwards I went to a cheaper salon and they gave me perfect blonde hair for 1/3 of the price.

I went here for the first time in Oct and walked out with the worst haircut ever.I saw Jennifer, who made the absolute most basic mistake a hair stylist can do; didn’t follow what we discussed about length, and she cut is soooo short that I can’t do anything, I wanted it below my shoulder and she cut a bob.The reason I say it’s the worst haircut is my hair is fine, naturally black without whites, so I don’t color. But also my hair is very easy - it does whatever I want it to do, flows easily, falls beautifully and it’s so low maintenance.After having my second baby in two years, my hair has been through a lot; beautiful luscious hair to all the postpartum hair loss... I was finally starting to feel better and just wanted to freshen up my look. I walked out feeling horrible. She cut is so short that I can’t even tie it but even worse she didn’t style it at all. She was sweet but this was a bad, suburb Mall level haircut. Her demeaning “how to blow dry my hair” conversation didn’t do much either. Not be rude but I have a triple degree from Harvard, I’m not ok with someone patronizing to me. It made me look older and did nothing for my face. It was completely flat...and again, the length was so short that I can’t even style to make up for it.Fortunately my sister in law, a top hairdresser form Toronto was able to fix it, gave it a youthful style...while telling me what a horrible job the previous person had done...was a bad cut, period.I made sure to discuss upfront with Jennifer what I wanted, what I do to my hair, how it usually looks...she started to cut it from the back, without checking again about the length...the second she did the first cut I knew it was a disaster.It was actually a complete disaster.

I absolutely loved this salon. My friend got her hair done here and I came to pick her up. She was still processing with color and I have to say I was impressed. Not only did my friends hair look gorgeous (btw i will be coming here for a service or 2 myself ) but the customer service was superb. I was just a guest of a client and I received such great care which made me feel right at home. The salon is gorgeous and not like any I have ever seen before. Everyone was smiling and so genuine with eachother which I believe made all guest feel that energy as well. What a pleasure it was to be there. I cannot wait to come back for my service.

I went here for the first time yesterday, had an appointment with Jennifer. She was very sweet but unfortunately this was the worst haircut of my life, two reasons; she cut it extremely short even after we discussed the length and she started from the back, so once she chopped that, I know the length was pretty much set in stone... the second reason she couldn’t cut the front fresh enough to make up for it. Actually there isn’t any style, just straight up short...no different than a $50 haircut at a mall in some suburbs.Now it’s so short that I can’t even style it without further comprising the lack of length.My hair is black and I don’t color so I rely heavily on a good cut, I usually give it waves, etc but can’t do that right now.Too short and completely outdated.

Lawrence is terrific - he doesnt pressure you into what he thinks would be the best cut for you but listens to you carefully and then makes suggestions. I feel comfortable going to him knowing that I had input and then he gives me professional advice. Thank you Lawrence !!

Kelly sucked. Shes $120 which is ridiculous considering she made my hair asymmetrical pretty much everywhere. She didnt cut anything straight and put so many layers that it is now feathered. She also gave me a bald spot where she cut too much. Ill be upset pretty much until it grows out, and I can get it cut by someone else for a lot less.

I travel from Bergen County , NJ to Butterfly every two months to get my hair cut. It is absolutely worth the trip. Dana cuts my hair and I get so many compliments on it. When I was getting my hair cut locally , i had to be cut at least every month. With Dana cutting my hair , I can go two months. The difference in the cut is very noticiable and looks like an expensive cut. She is very talented.

I’ve been contemplating whether or not to leave this review for several months, but after having to spend over $1,500 to repair the severe mistakes that were made on my head. I felt the need to review so this does not happen to someone else.I went to get my roots touched up and my lifted hair re-toned. I understand this salon is busy, but newer stylists should be encouraged to abide by what her instructor/boss asks them to do. I also think that my stylist should have been under closer supervision, so these mistakes don’t happen again. I overheard her boss ask her to tone my hair a warmer tone, which she totally disregarded intentionally because she was attempting to achieve a more cool blonde despite that not being what I asked her.A bad color job, I could deal with. But the entire top layer closest to my scalp was chemically burned off. To make matters worse, I saw my stylist call someone over to the sink- I’m assuming when my hair started to fall off and they BOTH brushed it off. Completely unprofessional. I did not realize my hair was like this until I got home because she blow dryed it in a way that it was blended and fluffed in. My dumb a*s still decided to tip her $40 too...Sadly that’s not even where it ends. When I touched my scalp the following morning, I had several large bloody scabs on it. My entire head is a grey tone blonde.All in all, after the damage that was done to my hair- I had to go through so many different processes to attempt to salvage what was left, and have spent so much money doing so. But really I think what’s been worse is that I reached out to the salon the very next day & was met with radio silence.If I could give it a 0/5 stars I would.

Loved this place! The girl who I had was very friendly, but still super professional. The atmosphere was great and I came out ready to hit the town.

Jason is incredibly talented, his attention to detail and level of skill are magnificent plus hes very charming and makes every appointment a remarkable experience.

I was in this room today 04/20/21 when I made the appointment, I asked for an estimate, they gave me a price, they made me the cut not to bad but, when I went to pay, they charged me an exorbitant price, they tripled the price that they gave me at the time of making the appointment! I think its unprofessionalI would never dare to go there to throw my money awayI feel cheated, I do not recommend it!
