Great place! So beautiful and scenic! Lots of little spots to stop your kayak and kind of venture out. The campground is spacious and right by the water!!! So nice to wake up in the morning in your tent & listen to the sound of the waves and birds. Wonderful experience. Cant wait to go back.

SUPER disorganized. I tried to make reservations online but they were sold out so I texted the number on the site, they took a long time to respond and finally told us to head over. When we arrived at the starved rock location the girl at the table said they would MAYBE have kayaks available at 3:30, it was 2pm. We told her we would wait. I left with the car to get gas while someone from our group waited. 20 minutes later I got a call that the kayaks were ready and we could head out. A different employee had come to the table and asked my mother if she was being helped and then proceeded to tell her they had plenty of kayaks available. Why didn’t the first employee know they had plenty of kayaks available, why did it take a different employee coming out to actually help us. The lack of clear communication was enough to discourage me from going through this company again, it was a frustrating experience. The actual trip was fine, pretty standard kayaking, good prices for all day and 4 hour trips. Decent scenery. The guy who helped put our kayaks in the water and pull them out at the end was very helpful and friendly but all in all it was a pretty irritating experience to just book some kayaks.

My first time kayaking and I really enjoyed myself. My friend and I signed up for the morning tour and I was happy with it starting right on time. The quick tutorial was informative and the instructor offered good tips. He was also very helpful with showing everyone which PFD (personal floatation device- not a life vest) was the best for their build. It wasnt as scenic as Id imagined prior to coming, but seeing that its a small river in Illinois I wasnt really expecting grand views either. Still, it was a very peaceful/serene time and the weather was amazing. There was a steady stream of traffic coming from the power-boaters, but they stayed on their side of the water just fine so it wasnt that much of a bother. Like I said, it was my first time kayaking so the incoming waves from the PB were somewhat of shock initially, but the instructor did warn us during the tutorial about them, and suggested we just ride the waves before paddling again which worked good enough for me. During the tour the instructor gave us a bit of background info about the river and the barges which was pretty nice to know. There were actually two instructors on the tour with us- one in the front leading and one in the back making sure the entire group stayed together. At one point my friend and I got stuck on sand while paddling, but Zack (the other instructor who paddled behind the group) was nice enough to talk us through it and help get us out. If its your first time kayaking, I highly suggest renting a double tandem- it helped eased some of my nerves knowing that I had a partner in the boat with me. The tour was supposed to last 2 hours, but we finished about 30-35 minutes earlier. Overall, I recommend booking this tour. Sidenote: This is a great activity to help build trust and communication with another person- especially if you book a double tandem (2 person boat).

This company has two locations and we rented kayaks from them just outside of Starved Rock Park. The staff were very nice and accommodating, and were patient in explaining the safety and Basics about Kayaking. The kayaks were very well maintained and easy-to-use. We rented a tandem kayak and found the area that we went along the Illinois River to be filled with birds. While some areas were very shallow, it was better than being in the very busy middle of the river where all of the speed boats were going. We are definitely going to be coming back many more times. I give kayak Morris five Stars.

I believe they have two locations. I went to the starved rock location. I enjoyed it. It was a little shallow when I went but enjoy the experience. Mostly open water with no shade. We reserve a tandem (for two people) and two single kayak. When we got there we asked if we could change it for two tandem. They did exchange but no refund just credit. Overall I had a good experience but I like the trips where their is lots of shade and miles of banks you can go through and explore This trip is just open water.

Great campsite, plenty of shade and trees. My only complaint would be the quality of the shoreline and the river in general. There was quite a bit of debris on the shore that likely washed up from inconsiderate boaters. I wish they would build up the divisions between some of the camps to provide some privacy and sound abatement. Bathrooms are a series of clean portapotties. No running water, but its less than a 5 min drive to town to get supplies.

There are a few things to know before Kayaking Starved Rock.We did this during COVID 19 so I dont know if there were changes to the actual tour. However, the advertising is misleading to the point of being a total lie.1. You wont be kayaking starved rock, but rather a small stretch of the Illinois River that passes by Buffalo Rock cliffs. The cliffs are interesting but it is in no way to be confused with a tour of Starved Rock. It is not near or even in the park.to quote my guide, We actually cant go into Starved Rock...[on the Starved Rock kayak tour.]We paid extra for this tour ($180--2 adults, 2 kids) seemingly because we were going to ... KAYAK AT THE #1 STATE PARK IN THE MIDWEST REGION WITH 18 DEEP WATER CANYONSWe saw one set of cliffs. No canyons!2. Because you wont be allowed to go into Starved Rock this was not a tour. It was a bunch of people in Kayaks paddling down the Illinois River for 90% of the trip. There is nothing to see except river banks until you get to the Buffalo Rock cliffs--then you paddle back to the beginning.3. The trip does not leave from inside the park. NOTE: At no point in time do you kayak in Starved Rock. You dont leave from inside the park. You dont return to the park. You DONT KAYAK STARVED ROCK on the KAYAK STARVED ROCK tour.

Just like the other bad reviews, they refused to talk to anybody on the phone. Very unresponsive which makes it very hard to figure out prices and availability. Definitely will not be going to this place. Many many more beautiful campgrounds and boating rentals around the area to visit and with very amazing owners and staff. I think it is so sad for the owners of this establishment and the customers they could get to come! It could have so much potential.Response to business:I wasnt scrambling to find another place. I simply had questions about pricing and availability and wanted to experience a new place but I guess not. There are at least 20 around there that I have stayed at with most pleasant staff. As soon as I call you I get a text while the phone is still ringing to start a texting competition for over a hour. No thanks, I prefer to talk to someone. I found a place right next to you that takes walk in camping and I am here now, within minutes of talking to you. After you said you had spots available and boats available you said that you dont take walk ins. What a mess! Hmmm, maybe hire more employees if you are that busy. Not my idea of even horrible customer services but non existant! I dont have an hour to text back and forth while on a bluetooth trying to drive but yet pulling over every 15 minutes to check a text you just sent. Ayres landing or C&M is the place to go when in this area people! Great staff and excellent customer service with no deposits! Also, do NOT park or block in handicap spots, please!

THE SECOND HALF IS ABOUT THE STAFF.The river is nice, but the review that complained about the overgrown weeds is really on point. There is also trash on the sites. Management told be its from the river. My site had a loaf of bread and brick of cheese it lol. Clearly neither touched by water, ever.Apparently they do get a lot of flash flooding and they may tell you that you have to leave. Which is not a problem, safety first. However, when I asked the staff if there were hotels, or a place they could recommend (Im from philly. We drove 800 miles to come here on the first two days of our road trip)***I then wrote a review. Here is were it gets cray!!***Their management team works off a text. After I left the review i received a text giving me a list of excuses .Then I was told IF YOU TAKE DOWN THE REVIEW ILL REFUND YOUR MONEYThats right. They offered a refund on the basis that I remove THAT review. I did. Cause I like money. They then texted me non stop until 11pm. This morning my wife got another message from them at 7:30 am. Ive been in customer service for years. This behavior from a business owner is mond blowing.I reposted because the public needs to know what they are getting into before they let these people ruin their family vacation. This location has potential, the scenery is beautiful, but it is poorly run. Our campsite was covered in 2-3 foot weeds! You couldn’t take a step without weeds scratching your ankles. I seriously considered going to buy a cheap weed wacker. This campground has no running water or electrical hook up anywhere in the premises, supposedly, so be warned! Toilets are porter potties that actually were clean and well maintained. There is no showers. Also, the campground does not sell ice, so be prepared for numerous trips to the gas station. Each time I asked an employee a question (closest place to find ice, where to take a shower, etc..) they acted as if they did not know the area and couldn’t give me directions. That was the most frustrating! We did a kayak “tour”. It was basically a group trip up and down the river... no real info given or site seeing. The life jackets were absolutely disgusting. I tried several and all smelled horribly of BO. I woke up the next day with a bad rash around my neck where the life jacket had been touching my skin.I’m an experienced camper, we go several times a year. I’m also used to primitive camping. This place was such a disappointment. For a place the also advertises “glamping” there was absolutely nothing glamorous about it.
