Coaching in this league has been a much better experience than when I was with I9. I9 only had two other teams for us to play and our team easily won all our games. We have moved to Gilbert Youth Sports and they have so many teams that you will never play them all. Competition is much better and we have yet to make the gold division tournament. We hope to someday be good enough to make it!

As a parent of many children, you simply cannot beat the price and convenience. All our kids play on the same day at the same location. The price is 1/2 or 1/3 of everyone else. Are there leagues with better uniforms and facilities? Yes, but we were paying $175/child. Just not possible anymore.

My son just finished up his first basketball season ever. He, (and we, his parents), thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The location of both practice and games were fairly close to our residence, whereas, in prior football leagues we had to travel at least an hour each way. Coach Josh was amazing! Most of the boys on our team had never played basketball but by the end of the season they made it to playoffs and the boys played with confidence and were great sports! Because he has grown to LOVE basketball from this experience, my son now wishes to continue playing basketball with the hopes of trying out for his jr high basketball team. Gilbert Youth sports is also very affordable! I would recommend this league to anyone!

I just finished coaching a season in this league and both my kids and I had a great time. The staff was extremely helpful, the environment was friendly, and the players on our team had a blast. I’m grateful they’ve been able to keep their doors open for kids to have a place to play. Awesome league would highly recommend!

Yes, its a cheap league but you know the saying. You get what you pay for! Ive never left a bad review but cannot believe how dysfunctional they are. I hear I9 or the YMCA is ran much more efficiently and more competitive.

Very low competition. This past weekend was championships and it wasnt even close. Every team we played this year had no idea what theyre doing. No one must be sticking with this league year after year. Theres got to be more competitive leagues out there!

First year I put my children in this league seemed to go okay. This year it felt like a completely different league. The amount of time our games were rescheduled was quite silly. The schools they would reschedule at would be more than 30 minutes away from our house. The officiating seemed to go down as well. Our games were hardly on time due to either the ref being late to the game or just every game ran behind. I hope they can get better

For the money, there is no better deal. My kids are able to play multiple sports for so cheap. We have been playing with this league for so long. There is no better league in the east valley and probably is all Arizona. Its not perfect, but my kids have so much fun!

First year Ive put my son in soccer. Hes 6 and the way the coaches and parents were acting for the games made me uncomfortable. These kids are 6! Not to mention the field where were supposed play were always getting irrigated. Our games were constantly being changed. I feel like they did not have control with their schedules or making sure these games were played without parents acting like fools. Ill try another league next season.

Its funny. After reading the owners replies to all these reviews, It is making a lot of sense as to why this league is ran so poorly. Clearly all he knows how to do is act defensively rather than improving his league.

Played probably 20 seasons with this league for 6 of my kids. They each played just about every sport and it was a fantastic experience! I like that they have so many teams that they divide up the tournaments by skill level so that every team has a legit chance to win a championship! You can tell that a lot of thought went into how they do things and our family really appreciates it.

Always issues in this league. They dont answer the phones or emails. When they do, their only reply is theres a table of people on duty on the premises that helps. Theres no table anywhere. Ever. Just kids for referrees that cant resolve anything. So frustrating.

I wish I wouldve seen all these terrible reviews before I signed my son up for flag football this year. I raised my concerns with the league and requested a refund. They refused. We stopped participating mid season because of how rude and unprofessional they were. Unbelievable! Look elsewhere!

We have played several different sports with Gilbert Youth Sports over the last 4 years and have had a great experience. Specifically the summer 2020 season showed how many improvements they’ve made. The schedule was organized and clear, they were helpful and receptive to concerns, and the kids had a great time and improved immensely. We will definitely be playing with them again!

Very unorganized. Last year at one game the referees showed up 15 minutes after the game was supposed to start. When asked if we will be having a game I was told to chill, well get it set up as fast as we can. Then they put up only four cones, one at the end of end zones and one in the middle of the field. During the game the refs only blew their whistles for half time and to end the game. We all could tell they didnt care to be there. If you want to pay less and have less organization feel free to use Gilbert Youth Sports, if you want more organization and much more professionalism go to GFL or i9 Sports. They may be more expensive, but the organization, professionalism and jerseys make it worth it.

Unfortunately our experience was just awful. There werent enough volunteer coaches available (not the leagues fault, obviously) so my husband coached. There were no good parts. We had to come up with practice locations even though we were new to the area and had zero connections. Game location information was inaccurate. Our roster was constantly changing. We had such a small team that everyone had to play every game the whole time. If we had a player out, the other team had to sit people out. Im talking like 3 on 3 in 102⁰ so they were exhausted. Other teams had 10+ people with 3 coaches and had to lend us players. It was a mess. Communication was non-existant, support never happened. And oh man was picture day a nightmare! They didnt even take team photos, just said theyd photoshop the individual pics together! We ended up paying twice as much and going to i9 sports. Night and day difference!

This league is dangerous for your children. We have been playing volleyball for this league and we are and undefeated team. We recently beat another undefeated team and that coach decided to physical assault our coach. After the game this coach followed our coach stopping her in front of moving traffic and recording her and her two children under four. She then found her home and parked outside to intimidate her. The police were called and a report was filed. Then during the playoffs they allowed this coach who had already lost to us to play one game to get to the championship while we and undefeated team had to play multiple games. We won and so did this coach (who they still allow to coach children) and they are now saying we do not get to play and it’s a tie. They are also refusing to refund our money. Now that we are making allegations publicly the league is responding that we are “dangerous and unruly” they are slandering us with untrue allegations and stating that we had the police called on us ( all untrue statements, this had never once happened) with no proof to support their claims. We have won every game we played, why would we be upset or unruly? It makes no sense. Please think twice before allowing your children to play in a league where they do not consider children’s safety their number one priority. They also will favor whomever they decide no matter how hard your children work.

In short, policy enforcement should never supercede civility. My writing this public review is not done impulsively. We do not subscribe to or support organizations whose leadership accost and publicly humiliate members of its community who have expressed agreeable intent to comply with policy. The week following my negative experience we spoke with one of the board of directors in an effort to give Gilbert Youth Sports leadership the opportunity to bridge the gap their staff created. While on the phone I read my written history of the experience to the board member, which I intended on sharing here but Google review only allows 3000 characters, and my detailed summary was 20k characters. After I finished reading my letter, there was a cold apology that was quickly followed by justification for their staffs unprofessionalism, which left me to assume they deemed the unprofessionalism necessary. As this board member continued to talk, it was disclosed they have been fighting with their patrons on this issue for THREE years and despite already losing contracts with a property as a result of the patrons violating this particular policy, it was expressed that they have NEVER, up until after my experience, put into practice proactive measures such as simply showcasing a sign at the fields entrance to give all who enter instruction on policy, that if violated would jeopardizes field use.I couldnt believe what I was hearing; THREE years before employing proactive measures, yet public humiliation and character defamation are perfectly acceptable? THREE years of this issue and yet their staff at the booth when we first entered the field didnt think to inform us of this when we asked for further instruction of field numbers while holding all our gear and our small dog on a leash. We would have happily taken the dog home upon our arrival, had we been asked. Being informed as we were walking in would have been more convenient rather than being approached after being on the field for two hours, right at the time wherein my husband was gone getting lunch. I had no car, our gear set up on the field, my children and dog, which could not be removed quickly by myself. We were not aware of this policy otherwise we would have simply kept our 6 lb dog home. It is not in our nature to knowingly break policy and then refuse to comply when approached. In short, a Gilbert Youth Sports staff member cunningly leveraged his position of control to create a public atmosphere of hostility, divisiveness, contention, and animosity rather than approach the situation with a problem solving service oriented accommodation, active listening to avoid misunderstanding, and compassion. He orchestrated a very public spurious characterization of me. His intent was to intimidate me into quick rigid conformity despite my limitations, which was confusing and infuriating to me because I had just clearly expressed my apologetic respectful intention of complying with the policy as quickly and safely as I could (within minutes upon my husbands return with our car). The right thing would have been to facilitate a quiet transition, but no, he chose the route of public humiliation by label lynching me as a provocateur when I was not. The games stopped were not my childrens.Just before my husbands return (5min) I was speaking with a staff member who expressed that Gilbert Youth Sports should have created unmistakable signs and should have placed them in the path of entrance for the patrons to review. Ironically as she said this, in walks another patron with their dog on a leash not wearing a prescribed service vest. She pointed out, see theres another person. I said, yep, is he going to be intimidated, publicly humiliated and vilified too?We will take our business elsewhere from now on. As explained in the beginning, we gave Gilbert Youth Sports leadership a chance to make it right before this public review and they missed the opportunity. The response to my review is indicative of the disposition we encountered.

I have both coached and had my children play for this organization. This is a league that is meant for fun, learning and respectful competition. With parent coaches and a good group of staff you get a good overall experience at both MYS and GYS.

I don’t enjoy leaving less than favorable reviews, but I know I would’ve appreciated knowing this before signing up. My two boys played summer baseball. First, we signed up with Mesa Youth Sports, but at the last minute, our selected location became unavailable. We were told we could get a refund or join one of the other organizations under this league (Chandler, Gilbert, or East Mesa). By this point my boys were excited for their first foray into organized sports, so I couldn’t just get my money back.Rather than go into all the details, I will say that there were a number of miscommunications (some were not the league’s fault) or lack of communication to the coaches, the league was not well-organized, games consistently ran over causing the next team to be delayed in starting their games (older teams should not be playing before young teams on the same field—our very last game started a full 20 minutes late), the season was shorter than originally understood with two games per week (making it up to four games for us with two kids on two different teams), there was a shortage of coaches, and the games were so spread out in distance, with traveling every other game instead of “most games” being at our “home” location as promised. The best part was that my boys had fun and learned a little about teamwork and baseball. We realized a lot of the experience depends on the coaches too, some of whom are more involved than others (we had no problems with our coaches, they were just busy parents like the rest of us).We went with this league because they were less expensive, but in the end, you kind of get what you pay for. I have friends whose kids have played with this league or a sister league in the past, so perhaps my experience is isolated to the summer season.

League umpires are the worst, especially the league presidents son. Makes terrible calls then will change his mind. Currently sitting at a game and home team tied it up and the umpire (presidents son) called the game during a play even though it was under time limit. Visitor team catcher walked away bc he called game then proceeded to say never mind and let 2 more runs score. Said he messed up but wouldn’t change the play. President watched and didn’t do anything. That umpire has also taunted parents and told them to meet him in the parking lot after the game. Very unprofessional. Have overheard other teams have issues with the umps too and complaints fall on deaf ears since it’s the presidents son.
