A 5 star google review grossly sells short Dr. Seruya and what he did for me and my family in our time of need. I was hit by a drunk driver while out on a run. Dr. Seruya immediately diagnosed my severed ulner never and acute injuries. My family was comforted by his clear game plan to save my arm and give me the most function. During my follow-up care and surgeries, I was so impressed with his relaxed, genuine care and skill. My family and I owe so much to him.

We were so nervous at first until we spoke and met with Dr. Seruya. He’s has this innate ability to explain everything so you can understand all the medical jargon. Our daughters surgery went beautifully and her recovery process hs been even better. By looking at her you would never know she had her injury. Our daughter started crawling which was a big one. Her movements with her arm are so fluid. We could not be happier anf be more grateful For Dr. Seruya.

I was a gymnast and suffered an injury that resulted in a fractured back. After three back surgeries at various hospitals, I suffered severe nerve damage and pain. That’s when I found Cedars Sinai and Dr. Seruya . Both were recommended to me by my former surgeon and he connected me with Dr. Seruya. I was able to get in with Dr. Seruya quickly, and we immediately discussed my situation with my nerve and why I was in so much pain. He explained to me thoroughly that I was dealing with intercostal nerve damage from my surgeries. He then made a plan for me to get surgery to fix my nerve. If I ever had questions he would respond to my message within minutes. After my surgery he showed me pictures of my damaged nerve and he explained how he fixed it, he also gave me a very honest answer of what my recovery would be like and what I would be feeling. I felt everything exactly as he explained it, and then after about a month, I noticed that my pain was gone. It was amazing to feel what life is like without any nerve pain at all. I now am living a really good pain-free life as an 18 year old and this is the first time in years I have been pain free. It hasn’t even been that long since the surgery! I highly recommend Dr. Seruya and his team to everyone I meet!

Finding Dr. Mitchel Seruya at the Los Angeles Nerve Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center was an answer to prayer. I was facing an uncertain and dreadful future because of damage to peripheral nerves in my leg. I was barely coping with the relentless pain from my condition as it consumed everything in my life. I could do none of my previous life activities. With every movement my leg produced unremitting pain and misery. I barely slept and could not rest. I feared there were no answers; that this was going to be my long-suffering future. Then, when I found the Los Angeles Nerve Institute and Dr. Seruya, who specializes in nerve disorders and unparalled surgical techniques to address peripheral neuropathy, I knew there was hope.I remember the day Dr. Seruya reached out to me to address the problems I was burdened with. I saw his great compassion and dedication to helping those in need. My leg muscles were severly atrophied and in constant spasm, and nothing I could do would provide relief. Absent were many movements of my ankle, foot and toes, and I feared the functional use of my foot would never return. My leg felt so compressed with pain, I imagined my leg was constantly being crushed by a vice-like device. Immediately upon describing my symptoms to Dr. Seruya, I knew he was listening intently and applying his great knowledge and expertise to solving the problems.Dr. Seruya diagnosed the compressed nerves with precision, and moved swiftly to employ 2-stage nerve decompression surgeries at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The second stage of my surgery was performed a little over a week ago and was a phenomenal experience, as was the first surgery. Whereas things looked so bleak before, I feel Im now on a path toward healing and a brighter future. Ive already regained strength, movement and sensation in my toes, foot, ankle and leg. My entire leg feels lighter and Ive recovered movements that I thought I had lost forever. I feel like I was given my hopes and dreams back. There are no words to fully express the depth of my appreciation to what Dr. Mitchel Seruya and his team at Cedars-Sinai have done for me.

WIZARD. MIRACLE MAKER. PIONEER. These are just three words that attempt to describe the incredible experience we had with Dr. Seruya. He not only gave us hope, he gave our son healing with his miraculous and innovative nerve transfer procedure. You see, our 16 year-old three sport athlete suffered a severe blow to his knee, leaving him with torn ligaments, muscles, and peroneal nerve damage. Upon injury, he was left with immediate foot drop (meaning he could no longer dorsi-flex his foot). After a successful knee repair in Utah we were told by his doctor and other nerve specialists to give the nerve time” to wake-up. We were told there was nothing to be done but wait. After many months of no response and no change (and a paralyzed foot), we began our search for solutions. We quickly learned we were up against a ticking clock since the muscles that control the flexion of the foot would turn to tissue and seize to function within two years of not having any nerve activity sent to them. We could feel the urgency and began to search the country to find a doctor who could help us. We spoke with doctors from the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, Massachusetts General, New York Specialty Hospital, Stanford and many more to educate ourselves on possible procedures and options. Everyone agreed, there werent many and most were not promising. That is, until after a series of synchronicities, we were introduced to Dr. Seruya by Dr. Pfeiffer and through the Health Network Foundation we had recently joined. After a late night thirty-minute phone call with Dr. Seruya, we were able to learn about the procedure, get on his calendar, and create a plan to fly from Park City, Utah to Los Angeles to have the nerve-transfer. We had hope! What happened was a miracle. Dr. Seruya performed a pioneering surgery - taking the toe nerve from our sons foot and attaching it to the anterior tibialis and peroneal brevis muscles (the shin muscles responsible for dorsi-flexion).Dr. Seruyas belief in what was possible, knowledge of nerves, and commitment to this pioneering method is incredible. His calm, confident, and caring presence was unmatched. Whats best is that we can proudly say the SURGERY WORKED! Our son can now flex his foot and his shin muscles have stimulation coming from his toe nerve. We cant thank Dr. Seruya and the Los Angeles Nerve Institute at Cedars Sinai Hospital enough for his pioneering methods and the healing hes given our son. We are relieved, excited, and so hopeful for what is to come. If you have any questions or want to learn more about our experience, please dont hesitate to reach out. Id gladly share more...

I sustained a C4/C5 spinal cord injury, back in 2010. I met with Dr. Seruya and proceeded to do nerve transfers on both my arms to strengthen my triceps my wrist and give me a hand function. One year in and I already have successful hand movement and a lot more to come… I recommend this for anybody in my situation or similar, my only regret is not doing it sooner!!The entire team and Dr. Seruya are incredible, knowledgeable, attentive, and caring. I have been in and out of different hospitals for different reasons and I can honestly say this was one of the best experiences.

I was recently diagnosed with a paralyzed diaphragm as a result of an injury to my phrenic nerve. I quickly learned that this is a very rare circumstance, requiring highly specialized care. Although I live in a major metropolitan area, I could not find a pulmonologist or neurologist who had any meaningful experience treating my condition. Fortunately, however, after doing some research, I found Dr. Seruya who I then sought out for his unique expertise in this area. After a variety of tests at Cedars-Sinai, Dr. Seruya recommended a spinal accessory (shoulder shrug) nerve transfer. I am now almost three weeks out from the surgery and the recovery is progressing well. I experienced virtually no pain and very little discomfort. Suffice it to say, I am grateful to have found Dr. Seruya, who as it turns out is a bit of a unicorn in this area.

Our family can’t recommend Dr. Mitchel Seruya highly enough. Our son had a freak accident and suffered a spiral fracture to his right humerus. The orthopedic surgeon installed a plate and 13 screws to stabilize the bone. Unfortunately, when the orthopedic did the surgery, he damaged our son’s radial nerve leaving his wrist, hand, fingers and thumb completely paralyzed. As you can imagine we were devastated.Dr. Seruya came highly recommended by a peer of his in New York. From the moment we met Dr. Seruya, we were impressed. Not only is he extremely accomplished on paper, but he is even more impressive in action. Dr. Seruya examined our son and walked through all of the many possible scenarios we were facing including nerve transfers, tendon transfers and nerve grafting. We had lots of questions and met with Dr. Seruya multiple times before agreeing on a path of action.Dr. Seruya was extremely responsive to all of our inquires and always made time to speak with us whenever we requested further explanation or detail. In fact, after we received a second opinion, with a different course of action recommended, Dr. Seruya took the time to explain, point by point why he made the choices he made for our son’s medical action plan. Ultimately, we chose Dr. Seruya (over the other surgeon) because Dr. Seruya had more hands-on experience working with the radial nerve, his communication was direct and clear and he exuded a competency and level of care that was above and beyond. We also appreciated that Dr. Seruya had multiple plans of action to maximize the best outcome for our son at every step. As a result, we authorized Dr. Seruya to do what he believed to be medically necessary to help our son regain mobility in the operating room. When Dr. Seruya operated on our son, he leaned on his vast years of skill and experience and ended up taking a very conservative approach (which most would not expect from a surgeon) that ultimately allowed for the best possible outcome for our son.I am thrilled to say that our son has gained the use of his wrist, hand, fingers and thumb because of Dr. Seruya’s experience, sound judgement and tremendous skill. Our son still has a little way to go in his recovery, but we continue to be under Dr. Seruya’s care and couldn’t be more grateful.

This is the only review I’ve ever done. I feel the need to let anyone reading this know my experience because we were lost when this happened to me. It is long, but worth the read.I had a routine distal bicep repair surgery (button attachment) on my left arm in Feb 2021. Right after my bicep repair, my bottom 3 fingers would not extend, but I could clench my fist. My thumb and pointer finger were normal at that time. 6 weeks post-surgery, my thumb and pointer finger also lost extension, just like my bottom 3 fingers.Come to find out during my bicep repair, my PIN nerve was flattened. The bicep surgeon told me a nerve may have accidentally been touched, causing my hand not to work. He said it should come back and that it could take up to one year. As someone who lifts weights daily before my bicep repair, I almost passed out. I asked to be referred to a doctor that could help my hand. There was only one in NV and it was 2 to 3 months to get in to see him.I Googled peripheral nerve surgeons and found Dr. Seruya’s site. I live in Vegas and they scheduled me a video consult quickly. During the consult, Dr. Seruya was unbelievable- he listened, he took the time to pull up pictures and diagrams to help me understand what he thought was wrong. He was very thorough and was certain that my PIN nerve had been damaged during the surgery. At this point, I wanted someone to take a couple minutes to look me in the eye and explain the options I have, and allow me to ask some questions. Dr. Seruya did just that, he explained everything in such detail that I was clear that he had my best interest at heart and I fully trusted him. Even after the first consultations he was extremely responsive when I had any questions. We scheduled a PIN graft reconstruction surgery with Dr. Seruya for May. Randomly, sometime in April, my pinky finger started regaining the ability to fully extend like normal. We were nervous that I didn’t really need the nerve surgery, that function was coming back and I pushed the surgery out one month to June. Dr. Seruya called me personally an hour later and talked us through the entire process and procedure again and he was fine with us waiting another month to see what function may be returning. He also warned us that the pinky function was likely due to another nerve, and I would still definitely need a nerve graft done. He was right. The doctor took the time to walk me and my wife through his diagnosis of the posterior interosseous nerve being injured during my bicep repair. He allowed us to ask multiple questions, and contrary to other nerve surgeons that I saw for this same issue, Dr. Seruya was extremely down to earth and spoke to me like a family doctor I had been going to all my life. He talked with us multiple times about patients he was currently seeing and doing surgeries on, and it made us comfortable knowing he has dealt with this specific nerve again and again.I unfortunately had 2 other consultations with hand surgeons in Los Angeles that recommended that I don’t even try to repair the nerve and just do a tendon transfer. This is not what I wanted to do if the nerve could be repaired and the function could be restored. The other doctors did not seem confident about a nerve repair, whereas Dr. Seruya knew from the beginning that it should be done.Dr. S showed my wife and I that he really listens and that he really cares. You can tell when you speak to him that he loves his work and is a leader in this field. My surgery was June 8th, over seven hours long. Even in the first few days out of surgery, we sent Dr. Seruya a message about meds in the CS app and he responded in great detail within the hour. So helpful being 4 hours away but knowing he was ready to respond when we needed him. I am currently 9 weeks out from surgery and pleased with everything so far. If you find yourself with this type of injury or any nerve injury, feeling helpless, don’t wait to call this office. We couldn’t be happier or more grateful to have found Dr. Seruya. - Gary Allgood

I had nasopharyngeal cancer 11 years ago with chemotherapy and radiation treatments to my head and neck area. Ten years ago after I finished treatment, I went completely deaf and had the bone over my right facial nerve crumbled and fall apart leaving me with right sided facial paralysis. I had no smile and the inability to close my right eye all the way.I was referred to Dr. Seruya for his specialty of facial nerve paralysis and surgery to help restore facial nerve function.I underwent two surgeries with Dr. Seruya. The initial surgery was to transfer nerves from my legs to my face, four months after the injury. Dr. Seruya also connected my facial nerve to my chewing nerve (masseter nerve) to help give more power to the muscle to regain my smile, and help close my right eye. I started to regain my smile five months after the initial surgery. The second surgery was eight months after my initial surgery to connect the nerves from the left side of my face to the right side of my face. This surgery is to increase the tone in the right side of my face. Eleven months after my initial surgery, I have a pretty good smile now, about 75-80% back to my normal smile. The tone is increasing slowly, three months after my second surgery. The closure of my right eye is also increasing more after my second surgery.Dr. Seruya and his team have been fabulous throughout my whole experience. He is kind, caring, compassionate and truthful about my diagnosis and the outcomes of my surgery.

When I had a hip replacement in 2013, little did I know that I would be more disabled after the surgery than before. I had the anterior surgery done locally. Not at Cedar Sinai. I was 64 when I had the surgery. For the next 8 years, I dealt with pain. I was unable to flex my hip without pain. When getting into the car, I would have to lift my leg with my hands to avoid the pain I experienced when I would try to get into the car. I could not jog or even walk fast. I could not lift anything heavy that put weight on the hip. If I tripped, I fell down because I could not use my hip flexor to save the fall. I was definitely worse off than before I had the hip replacement. I tried to find someone who understood my issue and had a solution. I did a lot of research on the Internet and felt that my symptoms matched the diagnosis , Meralgia Paresthetica perfectly. I went back to the surgery center where the original surgery had been done. My surgeon had passed away so I saw two other hip replacement specialists there. I explained my problem to both of them. Neither one seemed to have any idea what I was talking about and offered no solution. One of them even laughed at me. I threw a wider net and began researching any doctors that specialized in Meralgia Paresthetica (Lateral Femoral Nerve Syndrome). I live in California but I found a doctor at Johns Hopkins. Too far for me. I filled out several forms at different medical facilities requesting information on any doctor who might be able to help me. And then Covid hit. I had decided that I was just going to have to live with the pain and disability I had. And then over a year after filling out the form, I got a phone call from Cedar Sinai and they said they had a doctor who might be able to help me. OH MY GOSH! I made a virtual appointment and spoke to him on the phone. He knew exactly what was wrong. He explained in detail all the potential solutions. He was very clear and clearly very knowledgeable. I scheduled surgery knowing that outcomes were not always positive with the procedure, but it was worth the try for me. The experience at Cedar Sinai was phenomenal. I was in and out and drove 4 hours home. Well, actually, my husband drove and I slept. It has been a month since the surgery. I can jog. I can carry heavy things up stairs. I can do a lot of things I did not think I would ever be able to do again. I still have numbness in my leg, but the pain is minimal. I am so happy!! Besides being a very nice person who understood my issue and explained to me exactly what could be done about it, Dr. Seruya is my Super Hero! He fixed me!

After seeing Dr. Seruya and undergoing surgery on each side, Ive experienced a complete relief of all symptoms and have been able to regain much of my strength back in the time since my last surgery at the beginning of the year. My daughter has spent the last 7 years dealing with chronic pain in her ankle as a result of a torn tendon from a competitive gymnastics injury. In order to repair the tendon and address the chronic pain, she has had 3 previous surgeries. After each of these surgeries, she would feel better for a few months only to have the pain return resulting in her inability to walk or stand without pain.We were fortunate enough to find Dr. Seruya who quickly diagnosed my daughter with a neuroma. He explained to both of us what exactly that is, why it causes chronic pain and the best treatment method which is a surgery called the “crush and dunk” of the nerve. Dr. Seruya was able to get her surgery scheduled within two weeks of the diagnosis. Although the recovery was a bit difficult, my daughter is now free of pain. She is able to walk, stand and exercise. All things she was unable to do prior to this surgery without pain. This surgery has been life altering for her.We are very grateful to Dr. Seruya for his care and ability to listen and understand my daughter’s diagnosis quickly. I had taken my daughter to many other doctors who were unable to determine the reason she had chronic pain. He has also been very responsive to questions and emails providing us with support throughout the process.

Our son suffered extensive nerve damage to his right hand after surgery was done to remove a cervical spinal tumor. We were referred to Dr. Seruya for a nerve transfer consult. We cannot express how fortunate we are to have been placed in the right hands at the right time. Our sons nerve transfer surgery was very intricate and Dr. Seruya made us feel confident that we made the right decision to go forward. It has been 7 months since his surgery and he is using his right hand again. He is able to write and hold utensils, he is able to fasten buttons and tie shoes. We see progress daily. Dr. Seruya has been available for any questions we have and reassures us if we are feeling doubtful. He is an extraordinary surgeon and our recommendation is an emphatic yes!

Dr. Seruya is a true life saver. About 4 months ago i was just pushing something heavy and i felt a pop or a tear in the back of my leg. I thought it was my knee but it all happened so fast i wasnt sure. Instantly i felt pain in my knee and calf area and could barely walk. I went to the orthopedic knee doctor immediately. I told him im having this pain it felt like my whole lower leg was vibrating and lt felt like water was running down it. It was a very strange feeling but very intense. He took a mri of my knee and said everything looked good. He said the pain sounds like nerve pain and i probably injured my spine causing nerve pain in my leg. Which i knew was not true. I knew how i injured it. I want to say that was when the worst 4 months of my life started. I went to 3 different orthopedic doctors 2 different neurosurgeons. I had 6 mris. No one had any answer because nothing was showing on the mris. I had a nerve test done that showed nerve damage to my tibial nerve but even then they did not know what to do. I was in pain 24/7. It could barely walk. I had to pay someone to walk my dog i was riding the electric cart at the store. Also i should say i was someone who woke up before work would walk my dog and workout everyday. My whole life was stripped away from me. I was depressed and in pain and no one had any answers. Finally i just decided to call hoag hospital neurology department and spoke with a women and explained exactly what i was going through. She said she would do some research and get back to me. The next day i got a call from Dr. Seruya office. She said the doctor got the message and would like for me to come in for a concultation. I think i asked the lady at least 3 times if he dealt with tibial nerve problems. She said yes. I was just so tired of being disappointed but i couldnt give up. I was going insane waking up everyday just wanting to not be in pain. I got a appoinment very quickly. Dr. Seruya spent almost a hour with me. He read my nerve report ran some physical tests on me and he instantly told me i have tibial nerve entrapment and i need surgery to release it. He knew exactly what the problem was and explained everything in detail. I remember driving home that day crying not because i was once again disappointed but finally i was going to get help. I had surgery 12 days later. Surgery went well and it was hard to believe but the nerve pain was instantly gone. I am 4 weeks post surgery. The incision in the back of my leg is healing nicely and i am walking. There is no words to express the gratitude i have for Dr. Seruya. He gave me my life back.

I first saw dr Seruya when I was 13 in 2017. I had been a competitive gymnast for many years. I was having lots of pain and numbness in my left arm.The numbness was so severe that the last two of my fingers had started to claw. I saw many doctors before Dr S, they all dismissed it for a sprain in my wrist. The very first appointment with him, he found the diagnosis and surgery was scheduled. The diagnosis was TOS(thoracic outlet syndrome). By the time the surgery took place, the last three of my fingers were clawed. A couple months later my right side started to decline. As soon as we noticed it, the OT I was working with immediately called Dr Seruya. The surgery for TOS on the right side got scheduled. Both surgeries were successful and took away the pain in my arms, but the clawing on both hands were still there. A pain arose deep by my armpit, it was only on my right side at first. Time went on, there didn’t seem to be a reason behind all this pain. Even when my family and I gave up, Dr Seruya never did! A bilateral peck release was done due to peck minor syndrome. Once again, the surgery had taken away all the pain but the clawing was still unresolved. All of us were hopeful I would regain function in my fingers. It came to be the last stretch to do anything about the clawing, before permanent nerve damage set in. Last year Dr Seruya performed a nerve transfer. After lots of OT, I am now a senior in high school, driving, and playing sports. My hands have full function and it’s because from day one Dr Seruya never gave up on me. You will not find a more caring, intelligent, and dedicated surgeon!Lacy Roberts

Dr. Seruya is truly amazing. I suffered Acute Flaccid Myelitis from West Nile Virus in 2013. The virus attacked my spine and brain leaving me with a flaccid right arm. In 2018 I was the watching The Nightly News with Lester Holt, they were featuring a story on Dr. Seruya, explaining how he had been successful in reversing some of the effects of AFM by transferring viable nerves from one area to the effected area. For the first time in 5 years I had a glimmer of hope that maybe my arm could work again. I emailed him (I live in Oklahoma) about my case and not only did he respond to me, which I honestly wasn’t expecting, but he responded within a few hours. He was genuinely interested in helping me. Over the course of a year he gave me his time and attention, all the way from LA, trying to determine if I was even a candidate for this surgery. I had surgery in LA last December. He is truly amazing and pretty rare in my opinion. While it’s still early and will take time to see the total success of the surgery, I can already feel nerves firing in my shoulder and arm. So far I have had some minor improvements in mobility and range of motion, which tells me the path is paved with positivity! To see any improvement after 7 years is a miracle! I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Seruya. He is caring, genuine and wicked smart!

If I could give Dr. Seruya a 500 star review, it still wouldnt be enough. My daughter suffered a brachial plexus injury at birth, due to getting stuck in the birth canal. She had very limited use of her left arm and shoulder. We were told it may improve, but time was the only way to tell and there was no way to be sure. I would not accept that answer. My husband and I knew absolutely nothing about this condition and were left to find the answers ourselves. It was only by chance talking to another mom that I found Dr. Seruya. I called his office on a Thursday and he told me to come in to meet with him the following Tuesday - mind you it was Christmas Eve! He very easily could have said, Ill see you next year.We felt at ease right away from that first meeting with him. He talks to you like a real person and takes the time to explain things. Its clear that he is a master in his field and this is his lifes work.He carefully examined my baby, held her, felt her arm - which nobody had done up until that point. It was undetermined at that time if she would need surgery. But I knew that either way, if she did need it, it was going to be with him.Fast forward 3.5 months later, My five month old daughter was undergoing a massive (7 hour) nerve transfer surgery. She would have several scars, be put under anesthesia, have to spend the night in the hospital. All of that aside, I knew it was going to be okay because Dr. Seruya was taking care of her.Now at a little over 1 year old, she is doing things that never would have been possible without this surgery. Crawling, climbing, pulling herself up to standing, feeding herself, lifting her arms up to be picked up.She is going to live her life without limitations and there is no doubt in my mind that I have Dr. Seruya to thank for that. In my opinion, there is no better care for nerve treatment out there. Dont wait to call him. He changed our life.

My wife suffered for years with debilitating symptoms in her right harm that was eventually diagnosed as brachial plexopathy. Her symptoms developed slowly over a five-year period, beginning with loss of feeling in her fingers, arm weakness, blood clots, and eventually total loss of arm control. Previous physicians incorrectly diagnosed the problem that led to two unnecessary surgeries. Dr. Seruya’s team discovered a malignant tumor that encompassed her brachial plexus that was essentially strangling the nerves and blood flow to her right arm and eventually caused her to lose control of the arm. Dr. Seruya performed the extremely delicate surgery to successfully debulk the tumor. He later performed nerve transfer surgery to repair the nerve damage with hopes to restore arm functionality. I’m happy to report that since her surgery and physical therapy, my wife’s arm is progressing nicely. We are extremely happy with Dr. Seruya and would highly recommend him.

There is so much to say about Doctor Seruya that it could take pages and pages, so I will just hit on some of the basics that I went through the past two years. I had a injury at work on my right arm and hand after waiting months for surgery. I finally had my first surgery on January 22,2018 with a workmans comp doctor. A week later when I went in for physical therapy I noticed that I could not move my arm at all. The doctor sent me in for a EMG just to find out that I had suffered a brachial plexus injury. The doctor had responded sadly that he didnt know what happened and that he was sorry. He stated that we need to wait 18 months to see what would come of this injury I was left paralyzed in my right arm and left in extreme nerve pain Unbelievable pain not to mention but it was my dominant arm and hand. Waiting out the 18 months would have been a big mistake. I could of lost all feeling and movement and maybe my arm. Im so glad we found Dr. Seruya through a friend. When I had seen Doctor Seruya he had discovered that I had suffered a right brachial prexus injury following a right shoulder procedure that had been done by the other doctor. Dr Seruya told me that my injury was coming from the brachial plexus and wasnt sure how this could have happened from a routine procedure. He said he had never seen anything like this. There was so much damaged and wasnt sure where it was coming from so he had talk to me and said this will include a combination of nerve neuroplasty, nerve transfers, nerve transplants and nerve grafts the first surgery was on October 30th 2019 it took up to 9 hours and the second a few months later this was a four-hour surgery and with a lot of physical therapy. I can move my arm with hardly any pain. I am so thankful for this wonderful Doctor Who gave me not only part of my arm back. Now I have hopes for the future and I have hardly any nerve pain and I am learning to use my arm again with hardly any pain. Thank you Doctor Seruya for putting me back together , you and your team and staff are amazing. I know I will not be at a 100% and you told me that up front that this will take a couple years to get through and I will gain more movement. I know this has only been a few months out, but this has been amazing how much I can move my arm in such a short time. I know this will take time but I know that the end results will be worth it. With this being said I am so thankful you have done such a great job and now I am not in that dark place that I was in for a long time. I cant thank you enough for what you have done for me. You where the only doctor who would take the chance on me, when no one would touch me.Thank you again and again. I feel I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.Thank youTodd Peek

My only regret not is seeing Dr. Seruya sooner. The level of care, compassion, and expertise is truly unmatched. Back in May 2019, I suffered a crush injury when a boulder fell on my right hand while vacationing on a deserted island. I ended up with fractured carpals (hook of the hamate and trapezium) and paresthesia of the skin. When I got back to the States shortly after, I saw a few Orthopedic doctors/therapists who left me hopeless and in pain. Being right-hand dominant, I didn’t think I would be able to regain full strength or sensation. I went through months of stiffness and numbness. My job requires me to be hands-on with patients and all faith was restored when I connected with Dr. Seruya and his team. He took the time to look at my x-rays and identified other issues while other doctors failed to address them. He helped me make sense of the whole process from therapy through surgery. Dr. Seruya performed a decompression surgery of the Guyon canal and carpal tunnel. Months later I can say my hand is healed and healthy all thanks to Dr. Seruya and his team.

I am 73 years old and had breast cancer on my right breast. The surgeonwho performed this also took out some lymph nodes. During this procedure the surgeon cut my ulnar nerve. I then had no feelings inmy right hand. I was very fortunate to meet Dr. Seruya and he was able todo a tendon transfer on my hand. Knowing that he was the best handsurgeon, I had no doubt about his expertise and knowledge. My hand is getting better and better. Dr. Seruya and his staff gave me the best careand comfort anyone could ask for.Kathy Campbell

First, I never give reviews, but Dr. Seruya more than deserves me taking the time and thanking him publicly and letting people know what an amazing doctor he is.Everything from the staff to Dr Seruya are a 5+ star. After 4 doctors misdiagnosing my issue over a 5 month period Dr. Seruya through an email correctly diagnosed what my issue was and promptly brought me in for surgery and after 3 weeks I am 80% improved. Not one doctor even knew what I had or even thought of it. My daughter (who is a research scientist) and I did our own research and went looking for a nerve specialist and found Dr. Seruya through his website.I had a doctor inadvertently cut a nerve in my leg during what should have been a very simple skin cancer procedure, that was the size of a freckle. It caused me to have excruciating pain from my knee to my hip, groin and back with numbness, feelings of electric shock, feeling like water was being thrown on my leg, chills, extreme sensitivity and nothing that I had ever experienced in my life. I would say I was on a scale of 8 out of 10 in pain 24/7. The previous Doctors gave me 10 steroid shots, epidurals, acupuncture, and blocked my L3, insisting that it could not be the simple procedure from the skin cancer. But Dr. Seruya through my explaining the situation before our initial visit on an email, which he responded to within a few hours, was able to diagnose the issue and have me come in the next day and quickly set up surgery and he was correct with his diagnosis. His bedside manner is the best, his quick response to my questions and concerns are amazing, and Beeta his front desk girl is as responsive, kind, and compassionate as Dr. Seruya. If you are having any type of nerve issue you must see Dr. Seruya. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Seruya is changing my quality of life and given me hope for a future of better mobility with nerve transfer surgery he preformed on my leg after having suffered a femoral nerve injury , He is compassionate and caring and I look forward to every time I see him, he is wonderful, a blessing. and I have just started physical therapy but there are things happening after my surgery , movement, it is small and I have years of therapy ahead but for the first time since my injury I have a reason to believe that I can improve , and that hope is all i need, I have hope.Hope for getting back the Quality of life I used to foolishly enjoy everyday.Dr Seruya listens, takes the time to sincerely listen, he Cares. This man is helping me get my life back, how do you post a review of that? I am so lucky.Believe me, this is the Doctor who will listen to you , and then help you, like he is helping me, you can see it in his eyes, he wants to help.I now look forward to the possibilities and challenge each new day of physical therapy brings me, a chance to own the day again, I have that chance because Dr. Seruya chose to challenge himself in choosing neurology ,So now I can challenge myself instead of feeling sorry for myself about my injury.Amazing what a bit of hope can do to turn things around .Did I mention that he spends most of his time and talent helping children? that should tell you most of what you want to know about him.

My daughter Sophia was diagnosed with AFM ( Acute Flaccid Myelitis ). It is a condition that causes serious neurological disease and can lead to paralysis. As a result of this disease, Sophia right arm was paralyzed. After going through rigorous OT therapy sessions, there was minimal progress and her right shoulder began to atrophy, so we started exploring new options. We’ve read about nerve transfer surgery and how it was a viable option for AFM kids. We’ve met with several neurosurgeons but we did not feel that they were the the right choice for my daughter. Through our pediatrician and other parents of AFM kids, Dr Seruya was highly recommended, so I decided to contact him and get his professional opinion. From the initial conversation, I knew that Dr Seruya was the right choice for my daughter. He is very knowledgeable, extremely patient and caring. We flew to LA and had a consultation with him. He took his time and explain the whole procedure in great details. Couple of months later, Dr Seruya performed nerve transfer surgery on my daughter. He transferred several functioning nerves to the affected areas of the right arm and shoulder. Three months after surgery, we started seeing some progress. Sophia is starting to feel biceps movement and her right rotator cuff is getting more function back. We are very excited and hopeful for Sophia recovery. Thank you Dr Seruya for everything you have done. We are very grateful for the care you have given to our daughter.

I am so grateful to have found Dr. Seruya, who performed a sural nerve graft surgery on my left leg/foot in May, 2019. Having seen dozens and dozens of Doctors and Surgeons over the past ten years, finally found a surgeon who provided me with some solutions to a nerve problem that has plagued me for 10 years.Dr. Seruya is very compassionate and has excellent bedside manners. He takes the time to explain the surgical process with the patient and I appreciated that very much. In addition, Dr. Seruya provided me with photos of the surgical procedure, which helped me, as the patient, understand the surgical process and what was completed to reconnect my nerve. While Im still in the healing process of this surgery, I feel confident that his skilled expertise in nerve reconstruction will provide me relief once the nerve endings reconnect in the next year.I would highly recommend Dr. Seruya for treatment of nerve-related injuries as he will provide solutions that were never considered by other Doctors. Thank you Dr. Seruya for your care, understanding and problem solving!

Dr. Seruya performed a life-changing surgery for my daughter. Words cannot express how truly grateful we are of Dr.Seruya.My OB shared the sad news that my daughter had a paralyzed arm and it was a brachial plexus injury. It is SO HARD to find doctors who specialize in brachial plexus injuries. My husband and I met with over 4 doctors who specialize in nerve surgery but the didn’t give us the help we needed.I desperately searched online for treatment and found a documentary on nerve treatment called A Spark of Nerve. After watching that, I knew that TIME was so important and if I didn’t get help soon my daughters paralysis would be permanent. It was only by chance we had an excellent Occupational Therpist who recommended Dr.Seruya.Dr. Seruya performed surgery and shared that our daughters bicep was changing color and if we did not do the surgery, our daughters muscle would not have full function permanently.Without Dr.Seruya, my daughter would never have full motion of her arm.Thank you Dr.Seruya, thank you.

Dr. Seruya made my Grand Daughter Stellas future brighter! Stella is now 3 years old, she had brachial plexus injury from birth. She had a nerve transfer at the age of 0ne. Without Dr. Seruya my Grand Daughter would only have had the use of her right arm. Today because of him, Stella is able to do all the things she wants to without limitations. Dr. Seruya is and will always be answers to our prayers.

Back in October 2014, my daughter Ariel contracted the Enterovirus D68 and was diagnosed with Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AFM) of her arms. She was able to grain majority of the movement back in her left arm but did not grain much movement in her right arm as we hoped. She then lost a lot of her muscle in her right arm from her not being able to move it. In April 2017, one of her doctors at Childrens Hospital LA informed us of Dr. Seruya and I immediately made an appointment. We were very nervous but anxious to see what he could do for her. He explained to me about a surgery that could possibly help her grain that movement back. They would transfer nerves from her inner thigh to her arm. To be completely honest at first we were very scared of the thought of this very long surgery and the long recovery that would come with it but we decided to do it. So in July 2017, Ariel got the surgery done. It was a very long surgery as we were told and we were very stressed out but it has all been worth it! She has grain strength and is now moving her right arm after all the therapy she has received and is still receiving. From the bottom of our hearts, we are extremely thankful to Dr. Seruya and his wonderful therapists. He has truly changed my daughters life. He and his team have helped her become a happier and more confident little girl now that she is able to move her right arm. Dr. Seruya is the best!!! Words can not explain how happy we are with the outcome of this surgery.

My daughter Layla contracted the Enterovirus back in July of 2016 which left her with Acute Flaccid Myelitis (AFM) in her left arm. She received physical and occupational therapy at a facility but, it would be months before there was any movement. She regained movement in her elbow which was very exciting but unfortunately she hit a wall. Her muscles were atrophied and weak. I was told that if we were going to see any more improvement it would have already taken place. Then in December 2017 I received a call that a surgeon had joined the Los Angeles Children’s Hospital team who specialized in treating patients with nerve damage. It was an answered prayer! We immediately got in to see Dr. Seruya. To be honest I was very anxious. The thought of my baby having surgery was an unsettling one but, I left the hospital full of hope. Layla got her brachial nerve transfer surgery a couple of weeks later. It’s been nearly 5 months and Layla is doing really well. We’ve seen improvements in her movement and muscle strength. She has a way to go but things are looking really good for my girl! Dr. Seruya and his team of therapist have been instrumental in Layla’s recovery. They have been incredibly patient, kind and always do a great job at listening, validating and answering any questions I have. I’m so very excited for Layla’s future progress. I know that we wouldn’t be where we are if it weren’t for Dr. Seruya and the medical care he has provided.

My daughter has been daignosed with Hopkins syndrome, also know as Acute flaccid myelitis. We met Dr. Seruya when my daughter was about 10 months onset with the paralysis. We knew little to nothing about this rare illness. He has given us so much relief during such a devasting situation regarding our 2 year old at the time. We were so scared for her we didn’t know what to expecg, but Dr. Seruya was able to comfort our thoughts and our hearts in making the best decisions for our girl. My daughter has gone through a 2 stage, 10 hour surgery for the nerve transfers done by Dr. Seruya and he has been supportive and very involved through the entire process. A few months post surgery, my daughter was able to move her arm. He and his team have been so good to us! They took care of my baby and we can’t Thank Dr. Seruya and his team enough for everything. My daughter has showed so much progress since both surgeries and with continuous Therapy, she is just getting stronger. Thank you Dr. Seruya!

In 2012 I underwent a surgery for a fractured clavicle which left me with serious nerve damage and pain. For over three years, I experienced some of the worst of what the medical profession has to offer: doctors and therapists who were less interested in my health than they were in running up a bill, or even simply admitting that my situation was beyond their capabilities. Wasting my time this way, of course, only caused the damage to worsen, and it began to seem that my condition would become permanent.I refused to give up, and eventually I went to USC Keck Medicine, where the other doctors recommended I see Dr. Seruya, whom they consider one of the best doctors on their staff. (As USC Keck is considered one of the best hospitals in the world, this should give you an idea of how good he is.) He immediately identified the problem, and explained to me that this had become a complex issue which would require two surgeries: the first for the arm, allowing a year for the nerves to heal before the second surgery on the hand. The pain in the arm, which was constant and excruciating, is now completely gone, and while the hand surgery was performed only a week ago, the improvement is already noticeable.Another thing I appreciate about Dr. Seruya is his open and honest approach. Compared to other doctors who would be intentionally vague and suspicious in their responses to my questions, he was eager to show me his work (one of his assistants took photos and videos during the procedures). He is an excellent physician and an honorable person, and I would recommend him to anyone experiencing nerve damage that other doctors are unable to treat.
