Dr. Stephen Sykes is my daughters neurologist. She has autism & epilepsy and treating her is quite difficult because she is non-verbal. After years of grand mal uncontrolled seizures, and other neurologists telling my family that medication is unlikely to work with our daughter, Dr. Stephen Sykes has been a life changing doctor. My daughter does not have the violent grand mal seizures anymore - and her quality of life is completely different now. Highly recommend Dr. Sykes.

Saw him when he was practicing at CSMC prior to his Santa Monica move. He was very nice, but did not address my neurological issues. Instead, referred me to a Clinical Psychologist, who my rheumatologist said, “Do not go to her. My patients are very angry with her because she does not understand Fibromyalgia”.Although I never returned to him after that,, I received a very wordy letter telling me how much he cares about his patients, but he just had to make the decision to not accept any insurance, including Medicare, which is so obvious. I believe ANY physician who has the privilege of studying at USC and UCLA, as he has, which receive billions of tax payers money in the form of grants, student aid, and research programs, should be REQUIRED TO ACCEPT MEDICARE PATIENTS.Too bad we don’t have truly dedicated researchers in 21st Century Neurology, which is still diagnosing patients based on the 18th, 19th, and 20th Century techniques of Dr. Parkinson, Dr. Alzheimer, Dr. Duchene, Dr. Charcott, etc. of the French and German schools of Neurology. And, if you have difficulties that don’t fit into their sub-specialties, they simply call you “hysterical” (as they did in the 18th century), and send you off to a psychologist or psychiatrist. No real creative, careful, research or original thinking here. Just another kid who wants to get rich quick, and so chose the wealthiest group of wage earners: physicians.I come from a family that has two members with ALS, one of whom has already passed on from it, but he ignored those facts, and was useless. Save your money. My upper cervical chiropractor was more helpful!

Dr Sykes took the time to focus on my issue and discovered I had been misdiagnosed by another doctor. His staff and fellow neurologists are also extremely friendly and helpful. It takes a while to get an appointment but he’s totally worth it.
