We love The Dog Yard and we love working with Tanya on training our 1 year and 7 months old corgi, Rocket. Tanya took the time to listen to our issues, the techniques we used prior to her, and the human/dog dynamic in our household. Tanya is straight forward with a no BS attitude, which we love!! She is firm, tough, but very fair. Her methods and tips have helped us so much with Rocket, especially with his walking.Prior to Tanya, Rocket was a nightmare to walk with. He either flat out refused to walk when he is missing a parent (he needed both parents present, it was so frustrating) or when he is actually walking or waddling, he was reactive to other dogs, cars, bicycles, pretty much anything that moves. After taking the single Heeling workshop and the Street Obedience classes with Tanya, we saw a HUGE difference. Walking with Rocket is actually 75% enjoyable nowadays -- he is a work in progress-- and we owed that to Tanya. After listening to Tanya breaking down the dogs mentality when him or her is on leashed, everything made so much sense! I will be the first one to admit it, I was that jerk who frantically tried to hold Rocket back while saying he was friendly and that he just wanted to say hi when he used to jump, lounges, or even barks at other dogs when we are out walking. And I realized how irresponsible and dumb that was! Nowadays, we just walk/work when we are out for a walk. I now just shakes my head whenever I see other owners struggled with their dogs on leashed and always recommend them to go see Tanya for some help.Working with Tanya has really built up my confidence as a dog owner and I cannot thank her enough for that. Thank you Tanya, keep doing what you do!

I was originally referred to Blue Collar and the Dog Yard by a Culver City police officer. Upon my initial visit I was blown away at the sheer size of the place. When I asked about service dog training and trainers I had Tanya Yarborough referred. At my initial meeting with Tanya we walked around the Cheviot Hills park and spoke while she took notes and evaluated my dog. She spoke briefly about the service dog training program and pack leadership. She looked me dead in the eyes and said This will probably be one of the hardest things youve ever attempted to do. I have to tell you up front I am a mixed-technique trainer and I dont BS! Soon after that an off-leash dog ran our way and she stepped in front of me and my puppy, put her arms up and sort of grunted at the dog. The dog turned and ran away. Right then I knew she was the right trainer. At just two years old my GSD is now titled (CGC, CGCA), has logged over 100 hours in the air, and can perform 6 services. Aside from actually literally physically saving my life once (I have a severe allergy that she perfectly alerted to before it was too late), my GSD has been the perfect emotional support I was initially seeking. And while I was skeptical in the beginning, Tanya has been instrumental in my dogs development for her service work.Tanya is now helping me put together a scent work program for my 2nd dog as we work to get him on the Sheriffs SAR team as a volunteer. Ive met many trainers since my initial meeting with Tanya. What sets her apart to me is her understanding of dog emotions and cognition. She understands how dogs think and learn best from a scientific perspective. Sometimes her methods can be a bit rough no doubt. But In over 200 or so hours of training with her, I have yet to see her fail at introducing, implementing and proofing a concept. This says a lot. Ive never heard her say that a dog doesnt fit her program. Ive seen her go from the biggest most aggressive dogs to dogs afraid of their own shadows in the same training class standing next to one another and have totally different approaches to both of them.I am now working towards becoming a professional trainer and have utilized many of her methods in my own development. Not bad for a by-chance meeting 2 years ago.

Tanya is such an awesome instructor! She really breaks down the concepts when she teaches and helps me, as the handler and owner, understand my dogs thought process and psychology. Her methods have helped me build my own confidence in working with my dog, and also in understanding pack leadership. This has allowed me to develop a stronger relationship with my dog, and get the results I need faster!

I love this! Tanya has helped me gain confidence when training my dogs. She has such a wide range of knowledge and experience when it comes to working with all types of breeds and backgrounds. Im so thankful for the help and encouragement I receive each and every time I attend a class! She has helped my dogs work through some anxiety which has led me to feel ready for working on their CGC testing. I would recommend Tanya to anyone!

Im supposed to be the alpha dog, but Im not supposed to tell my dog no if she barks and bites at me, or at someone else? Does not compute. Owner is condescending.
