Dawns of Essence is the best salon in Gwinnett county. Mrs V is an excellent stylist. She has that special touch with hair that is hard to find with most professional hair stylist. She is awesome with short hair styles and cuts.

On a whim, I decided that I wanted to get my hair cut. It was the Saturday after Thanksgiving and while I wasn’t expecting to get into a salon on the same day, I was hoping to find a Sunday appointment. I usually just do my hair at home, so I don’t have a regular stylist that I see anymore. After seeing reviews and photos of Ms. V’s work at Dawns of Essence ...and noting that she took Sunday appointments, I decided to reach out to her. I fully expected her to let me know that she was fully booked for Sunday, but instead she let me know that she could get me scheduled for 12:30pm on Sunday. The morning of my appointment, she texted me to ask me to come in at 1:30pm. No problem, since she was graciously making room for me at the last minute. I arrived at 1:30pm and Ms. V met me at the door to take my temperature and spray sanitizer on my hands. She then asked me to sit in a certain seat in the waiting area. I didn’t have a problem with any of this - actually, I appreciated her commitment to keeping a clean and safe environment during this pandemic. Speaking of safety precautions, Ms. V also spaced her clients out during services, repeated cleaned sinks and work areas and wore a mask and face shield (clients were also required to wear masks at all times). Ms. V was wrapping up a long service on another client when I arrived, had another client in the chair that she was finishing and another client and I were in the waiting area - she was extremely busy, so I had to wait, but again, I didn’t mind since she fit me into her schedule at the last minute. As Ms. V rotated between me and her other clients, she began to express to us all that she was experiencing a lot of pain from a prior medical procedure (non-COVID related). The pain became very excruciating for her, so she apologized for taking several quick breaks. Despite her pain, Ms. V continued to service her clients and me and the quality of her work with superb. She colored and cut my hair with such precision - I LOVE IT. On my way out, Ms. V apologized for not feeling well, for my appointment taking so long to complete and for making this type of first impression. None of us can help getting ill, so I don’t fault her. She was even kind enough to loan me her umbrella to get to my car in the rain and let me drive up to the door to drop it off so my hair wouldn’t get wet - what a kind gesture when you’re not feeling well. Thank you, Ms. V for making my hair look beautiful and for treating me with kindness even in the midst of your pain.

So I was hesitant to make a review of my most recent experience with the owner/ hair stylist of this salon because she strongly demanded that I not. However, the experience was so awful and she would not rectify the situation so I feel that it would be a disservice to my community if I did not inform people of my experience. Here it goes: When I initially approached this salon, I took a picture of the outside of her salon before entering and she immediately came out and demanded to know why I was taking pictures. I explained I was taking the pictures to post on Yelp, she was very visibly upset and this was the start of her long 2-3hour rant for my entire visit on how she feels about Yelp and people posting negative reviews about her and I initially sympathized until I myself became a victim. When she approached me outside about the pictures that I took, without hesitation and out of respect for her establishment I told her and showed her that I was deleting the photos and I thought that would be the end of the conversation regarding that, but that is not what happened. I tried to stay in good spirits and be positive about the situation, but I literally was feeling like I was walking on egg shells the way she talked to me the entire time I was there as a paying customer to get my hair washed, detangled, dried, and styled. I think her salon is very beautiful. I appreciate the fact that she was willing to do my hair on short notice and so I complied with her demands. As she was doing my hair, in between working on her two other clients and her vigorous rants, she stated that she does not typically work with natural hair and only gave me two options to style my hair. It was to silk press my hair or to put curling rods,set, and sit under hair dryer. Most of the conversation felt like I was being interrogated and intimidated. She was very confrontational and I was very careful with any of my responses or any interaction with her. Despite the entire experience, I initially chose to not leave a review because of how she felt. She did express that if I wanted to leave a review, she rather I left it on Google or styleseat, but stressed that Yelp was not an option and that they were dishonest, not accurate, and bias,etc. I’m basically trying to sum up this horrific experience, but there are so many details that I haven’t mentioned, but hopefully you get the picture. On styleseat I initially left a 4 star based on her “heart” and “accommodation”. The next day I contacted her and sent her picture of the night before of my hair right after she did my hair and the next day while I was at work with the state of my hair which I was very disappointed in. I was hoping that she would fix or redo my hair or something, but instead she stopped responding to me and ignored my calls and messages. I debated for days and tried to give the benefit of a doubt that this woman wasn’t avoiding me and that this wasn’t the tip of the iceberg of my experience, but it was. After consulting with family and friends about this situation, I even expressed I had a genuine fear of making a review or even accurate review telling my experience because of how she may react and how intimidating she was and practically threatened me if I were to post on Yelp that I may experience some type of repercussion. I have never been so shocked and appalled. This lady has been hurt by negative experiences, but she shouldn’t take it out on anyone and allow people to have a positive experience and prove the naysayers wrong, but instead she only proved them right. Ms V is efficient and make your hair beautiful but also make the experience memorable every time by creating a friendly ambiance.

I was desperate. Tried the natural thing for a few years but couldnt stand it another second. I called Ms.V and she got me in right away. I was a little afraid because my hair is super short and I didnt know what she would be able to do with it. From the moment I walked in she made me feel comfortable, and assured me that my hair was safe in her hands. She started with a professional assessment of my hair and scalp, and made recommendations from there. I was pleasantly surprised with the gorgeous pixie cut that she did. Im a busy professional, so anything that requires too much detailed styling was not an option. The cut is so good that it looks fantastic in a simple wrap or flat-ironed. I am very well pleased with my hair and my new stylist.

Just had the most amazing hair experience ever at this salon! Ms.V is the all star boss lady! Her warm an inviting energy makes you feel at home as she listens to your hair drama! She fixed my hair up in a way I never thought was possible! I had some beat up over processed damaged hair she revitalized it! I had relaxer color cut style and conditioning treatment! It looked exactly like the picture I showed her! I can’t say thank you enough to Ms. V ! My hair angel! I recommend her for every an anything you could want with your hair!

I just wanted to add that Miss V is amazing. She straightened my type 4c natural hair. It was silk pressed. And my hair stayed for two weeks and when I went to wash it....MY HAIR REVERTED BACK!! She is so good. No heat damage. I cant wait to go back. Thank you.

The energy here at this salon is great! To other readers reading these posts, let me just say that people are always going to have something negative to say but just know that you cannot believe everything you hear or read! Just take your life for example and ask yourself this question has anyone ever down talked me for no reason? And if the answer is yes and I’m sure it is then you guys should understand that all negative reviews are not true! Don’t believe everything you read give this salon a try and you will be happy that you did!

The first time was cool but the next time the price trippled for short hair.... I wont go back.

I have been searching for natural hair salons for months now and I found this one. I felt a warm welcome as soon as I entered the salon. Everyone was friendly and respectful. My stylist did a great job and made sure the style/color was the perfect. They also recommended other services and encouraged me to come back. I love the staff and will recommend my family and friends. God bless!

I’ve been going to Dawns of Essence for about a year and my hair journey has changed drastically! My hair is fuller and healthier. Additionally, thanks to a hydration treatment that the shop offers. My hair is a lot softer and not as dry. I highly recommend this shop! Ms. V is amazing.

This review is long overdue! I cant praise Ms. V and her staff enough. The salon feel for Dawns of Essence is warm, friendly, and inviting. Several months ago, I called Ms. V to bring in my daughter for a virgin relaxer, she was very sweet. When we got there, she made my daughter feel comfortable about her choice to relax her natural hair, helped her choose a cute pixie style, and had my teenager (we know theyre hard to please) feeling lovely and confident when she left. Ms. V. was even able to squeeze me in (Im natural too) for a wash and trim while I was sitting there, and although her shop was full, we were out of there in no time. She genuinely cares about hair growth and maintenance. She informed me about the different products I could use to help with my post-baby shedding and schooled my daughter about how to take care of her relaxer and how to wrap her hair.I called her yesterday out of desperation (my head was a mess) and was able to make a last minute, late evening appointment. When I called, she was sweet as usual and although she was busy, she stayed late to do my style and trim. She got me in and out!Dawns of Essence is the beauty shop Ive been looking for. Ms. V. and her staff are like family now. We will definitely be back!

Today, I was a first time customer. The environment was inviting and I felt comfortable. There is sometimes an awkwardness when you visit a place for the first time. Ms. V was so kind and most importantly she was able to fix a haircut mistake I recently had done. I love my hair and will definitely be a returning customer.

I booked a last minute appointment today and Ms. V dropped what she was doing to come in and accommodate me and my wants. I got a silk press, which I am more than happy with. Most of all, I appreciated her honesty. I will definitely be back!

My hair was completely natural and I decided that I wanted to relax it. Some may think natural and nappy however my hair is very thick but not nappy. I called this salon and the young lady there told me that if I came in she could have me out the door in no time. Though she was very quick, I advised her that I was starting to burn. She asked me if it was unbearable so I said no and she told me (without checking my hair) that we needed to wait a little longer. In the end she definitely got me out of there in record timing, but the area of my head that had been burning felt very tender. Nonetheless, not long after the problems began. My hair started to break and I was left with a bald spot on the side of my head! I shouldve taken it as a sign when I walked into the salon an there was a sign posted advising clients not to complain about their hair after the fact and if they had a problem they should speak to the manager right then. I never contacted the salon in regards to the damage that has been done for a few reasons, one being the sign and 2 what can they do for me??? NOTHING because I will NEVER step foot in that shop again!! My natural and healthy hair is now over processed an damaged thanks to a stylist (if you want to call her that) who had no idea what she was doing!

On Monday August 8th I went and had my hair colored and styled by Ms. V of Dawns of Essence Salon. I WAS VERY HAPPY! I absolutely love my hair and will be a regular customer of Dawns of Essence. Walked in the salon to grab an item from my friend who was getting her hair done. Owner greeted me in the front of the salon. (Tone was very rude.) She asked if she could help me and I explained that I was there for my friend. After walking to get the item from my friend and returning to the front of the shop I sat down in the waiting area. She then asked me if I was staying, claimed that I didnt speak to her and told me to come to her. She then proceeded to attempt to embarrass me (I dont get embarrassed :)) by stating that this was her house and that I need to speak when I walk into her house. Then when I sat back down she was talking mess to the lady in her chair. Calling me rude and saying she dont play that ( How unprofessional)Now I am a 20 year old woman. I guarantee if I had an older appearance she would not have spoken to me this way. We initiated a conversation when I first walked into the shop so how did I not speak. & whether I spoke or not, thats definitely how you handle it maam. Youre rude and unprofessional. We will not return nor will we recommend. Also not understanding how a wash & press comes to $84. Had I known before my friend charged my card. I would have definitely advised her not to get it done. Way overpriced****As it pertains to my last post. I did not tell you no when you asked if you could help me. I stated that I was there for my friend. Please post the truth and the whole truth. There were several witnesses. No reason to state age differences. Believe it or not my mother is older than you so best believe I was taught respect and with that I was taught that you should be respected. The way you handled the situation was very unprofessional & my friend thought so as well. & I am not your child therefore you will not talk to me as so. My friend stated that for a wash and press you charge $55 & $20 for a trim. Which equates to $75 not $84. ( Still overpriced) but with all do respect if you want to bring the lord into it. I was raised in the church as well. & Your lord and savior can attest to what took place that afternoon. & being that this isnt the first time youve been rated as rude. I have been searching for the past year for a stylist who could accommodate my schedule and who might be available to work on Sunday. After trying several places that charged me a car note I found Miss V. God still answers prayers. She has been a blessing to me in more ways than just my hair. She lifts my spirit. My hair- Well, I cant say enough about that. My son tells me every week She really laid your hair?. I guess that is good I know I get a lot of complements. If she should ever move, Im going with her.Please dont be fooled by reviews of people that dont really appreciate what is offered here. Give it a change I am sure you will be like me - a Believer!

I went to Miss Vs salon for the first time and had an awesome experience. Its not your typical salon where there is a lot of unnecessary gossiping. The atmosphere is very laid back and she was very welcoming. I received a cut and style for a decent price and I left with an amazing hair cut! Check her out!

My friend was there few months ago and had a bad experience.True reviews are from people putting one star.Owner is rude and unprofessional as you can see from other reviews and the way she replies to them..and try to act like they are the devil or something....my friend had the same experience- chatting with friends which is okay but should be able to still use her hands to work.-talking about the client to her other client /friends-if anyone challenges her or give a small critic she would have bad attitude and bring God and Satan into it. Instead of looking for areas of improvementShe is experienced and know how to do her work for sure .But the environment is not good apparently.Trust reviews from one star

If I could vote zero stars I would. First off, the owner is rude and unprofessional. She’s talks about customers and her employees in front of customers. She refused to allow my friend to wait with me while she did my hair. There was another stylist there who was nicer than her. Every time I would engage with the other stylist she would interrupt me. As far as I can see she argues with anyone who challenges her or complain about the service they receive. That’s probably why she only has one other stylist at her salon. She’s so damn rude and says she’s godly. More like a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

I just moved here and Ms.V did my hair this morning and oh boy am I satisfied!! The atmosphere is so serene and she makes you feel like family I will definitely be going back!!

A hair trim has nothing to do with styling hair. Trimmed or not I have left other salons and my hair looks great. My hair is dry and not straighten in the middle. The basic look I left with was something I could do at home. You seem to be the only stylist who can not style or curl hair that needs to be trimmed. Now have pay more money to get my hair redone.

Wow I literally just called to make an appointment and the first thing I get is Hi can I help you . I ask if there is anyone that specializes with natural hair and she goes yes can i help you. Its not what you say its how you say it. She sounded rude and made me feel rushed. I ended up saying no never mind and hung up. If thats how youre going to treat your clients over the phone then I dont even want to know how you treat your clients in person.

Ive been going to Miss V for about a year now. She is the best point.. Very down to earth and RESPECTFUL to her clients. If youre In the Atlanta/Gwinnett area book your appointment ASAP you wont regret it I promise.

Super friendly environment, no attitudes or hostility (youd be surprised how many salons actually show hostility towards their customers) and extremely informative when it came to any questions I asked. Chelle was my hair stylist and had me walking out the shop smiling from ear to ear. With years of experience, every stylist at the shop is garaunteed to have you leaving highly satisfied! LookI walk In the salon at 420pm and talk to the lady about getting my kids hair. She was very nice when I was talking to her, She charge me 40 each to do kids hair just wash and press.It was 530pm I was seating there none of my kids hair was not done.While we in the salon she get up and eat, talking to her friend while we waiting.Not only she over charge me to do my kids hair she charge me the fee the credit card people charge her as a business to use them to the client that come in her salon.I will never put foot inside that place ever. I have called all other salon around and asked the price to just wash and press the max I got was $30 majority of the place told me $25.It was finally 8pm when I walk out this place. I stay in this place for 4hours . I was very disappointed with the service

I was a walk-in a couple of months ago, Ms. V did a relaxer and installed full head hair extentions. I was so very pleased, I have alopecia, my hair looked so natural and beautiful. I love Ms Vs technique, and her creativeness for doing hair. I am now one of her regular client.

Velincia is Awesome!!!I just got my hair cut yesterday at Dawns of Essence Salon and it turned out great!Velincia is a very good stylist and she knows how to find the perfect style for you!

The first time I went to this shop I was in an out in about an hour and a half. Every time after that it has taken at least 3 hours to get my hair done. The last time I went to the shop the owner Ms V. seemed to be annoyed that I had not been to her in several months. Although I told her I did not want a touch up, she insisted that I needed one. I refused to get one as I knew that would take even more time than a wash and set and since this was my birthday, I didnt wanna be in her shop for half the day. She proceeded to yell through the shop to her shampoo girl telling her how many times you have to wash someones hair thats REALLY dirty, implying to everyone that my hair was really dirty and needed to be washed 3 times. When I got into her chair she began to tell me how my hair had broken off in the back, how damaged it was and that must have been done by the person I had been going to instead of her. Mind you, I havent been going to anyone and my hair has probably broken off a little because I was pregnant and having to sleep on my back, therefore having to lay on it every night. So she begins to argue with me about how damaged my hair is and how when I was coming to her regularly, my hair was growing, which it wasnt. Even if someones hair is damaged, you dont need to keep repeating it to them and in a salon full of people. I would have left but my hair hadnt been styled yet. When she finally got to styling my hair she didnt even curl the back, as this was a short haircut and only curled the top of my head. She didnt give me a mirror to look at my hair as I had seen her do with others that day and simply asked me how I was going to pay. And while I am on the phone talking to my husband, while I was in her chair, she is trying to call the apple store and yelling in my ear practically talking to her kids about getting a new iphone. This woman is incredibly rude, unprofessional and disrespectful. I will never go to her shop again.After I posted my truthful review, this truly nasty woman, the shop owner, starts sending me nasty text messages, saying how fed up my hair was, how she should have taken pics and lots of other things. Not only was she incredibly rude and disrespectful in her shop, she decides its appropriate to send disgusting text messages to a former customer because of a bad, yet totally truthful review. Beware of this woman. She does not know limits and how to do business. No self-respecting business woman would harass someone via text message because of a bad experience. She needs an enormous amount of customer service training if she is going to continue running a small business with any hopes of being successful.

As a customer of Velincias (Ms. V) for almost 15 years, I have been a loyal and committed customer! Velincia has cared for my hair through the shortest of styles to the longest of lengths of my own beautiful hair cascading down my back (thanks to Ms. V)! I never have to question how my hair will look when I get up from her chair! My hair ALWAYS looks fabulous! I ALWAYS receive so many compliments from my family, friends, and strangers on how beautiful my hair looks every time I have my hair done! I am very good at maintaining my styles in between visits, so I graciously refer as many people to Velincia as I can. She is a professional with a sweet spirit and is so versatile with her skills and knowledge of haircare, she is truly a Master Sylist! I enjoy getting my hair done and fellowshipping with her and her clients ever visit, and having my under the dryer nap....LOL! I highly recommend Dawns of Essence Salon! I would follow Ms. V to the moon to get my hair done right every time!
