Dr. Hugh Bassewitz is extremely knowledgeable in his field. He took time to provide me options and explained my condition in a way I could understand and I never felt rushed.Both him and his staff were thorough and just wonderful, it was an amazing consultation!I felt empowered to make some much needed lifestyle changes with a better understanding of my condition.He has an awesome bedside manner and I got the impression he genuinely cares about taking good care of his patients.He definitely enjoys his specialty and has in-depth knowledge in all aspects of it which makes him an outstanding physician!I feel confident about putting my spinal well being in his capable hands with no reservations!

I went to Dr. Bassewitz for back pain from a lifting injury. The first time I met him he was so kind and warm and I was happy to have him as my doctor. However, the second time, he was assisted by a student/apprentice which I consented to. Before he walked in the room I could hear him talking about me saying “I wasn’t doing everything I could to get better” and being very unprofessional even though he thought I could not hear. At this appointment he asked what I was doing to help alleviate pain and I responded with “doing 30-40 min of stairs or walking incline at the gym to strengthen as well as light ab exercises that my back can handle” and he looked at me as if I was the stupidest person alive and said um yeah that helps nothing and actually chuckled in my face. And later on comments on how I’m sitting (using my arm weight to hold me up) because I am unable to sit without back support on my own and proceeds to tell me if I “lose a couple pounds that could help me.” AFTER he said doing the cardio my back allowed me to do like the stairs and incline walking was worthless. My body fat percentage is 17.4% and unfortunately my bra size is a 34 G so it is very painful sitting without support especially with excruciating back pain.I honestly felt so defeated after my appointment with him. Please find a different doctor as I have.

Love Dr. Bassewitz! I’m a new patient so it was a bit of a wait but he answered all my questions and created an alternative treatment plan that eliminated surgery. I was extremely happy to hear that.Office staff was very nice and professional. It’s a busy office so just plan accordingly since they do see a lot of people. Bring a book!I do recommend Dr. Bassewitz. He was very kind and honest. I appreciated that.

First visit was very good, he listened and explained my X-ray, hopefully next visit (after my catscan) I will know more!

A straight up, no nonsense doctor. Here are your problem areas. Here is what I can do for you. Here are your other options. And here are my recommendations of what you do.

Saw the Dr for probably 5 minutes said he was sending a Prescription and back brace. I received the back brace and nothing else. Called to ask about my Prescription and the doctor had already left for the day. Said that the file was half updated not sure what the doctor was wanting to do. Called in the next morning as told the day prior and talked to the receptionist which transferred me to a deadline 4 times. Called back left an urgent message to call me back and still no communication. Just received a voicemail that they scheduled me for an MRI today and was told 6 hours before my appointment made without my knowledge. I had better communication while going thru my divorce than talking to this office.

My appointment was met in a timely manner. The doctor knows his stuff and had immediate answers to my questions.

Dr. Bassewitz was awesome. Very friendly, knowledgeable and professional.

My experience with Desert Orthopedic was probably my best ever with any medical facility. The whole team is professional and KIND. They work with a high degree of empathy. They listen when you talk. Maddie was especially helpful when explaining my exit package. I was given a particularly devastating diagnosis and Maddie spoke to me like I was a human being; she had a very nurturing and calming presence. Dr. Hugh Bassewitz was excellent. I can’t say enough about him. Although this review is based on my first visit with Dr. Bassewitz, I feel like I am with the right doctor. There is no doubt in my mind that he is not capable of delivering the best care. I trust him emphatically. When you know, you know. I am so grateful I was referred to him because I know under his care I will have the best possible outcome. He listened to me. Dr. Bassewitz and team provided me with the up most professionalism & courtesy. He diagnosed me correctly the first time and prescribed all possible treatments to avoid surgery and when surgery was the only option left for a cure he performed it on a superior level and as soon as I woke from anesthesia I knew he rectified my issue. He also fought workmans comp for me to provide me a cure. He performed a multiple disc replacement in my neck. Dr. Bassewitz spent time explaining my x-rays and treatment options. He was patient and answered all of my questions in a manner that made me feel confident and comfortable. I have faith he will work with me in addressing my back issues.

The doctor prescribed MRI for severe sciatica and didn’t do his job following through with calling my insurance for peer to peer process. Had some girls not even nurses working under him call my insurance after about three weeks which the insurance doesn’t even consider it peer to peer. Wasted a lot of time going back and forth with their BS and excuses telling me of having to acquiesce to insurance requirements of first undergoing 6 months of physical therapy before the MRI (which would be an awful practice as MRI needs to be done first thing for my severe sciatica and to even know what exercises to to for physical therapy) when all it needs is the doctor or his assistant doctor to call the insurance to override it confirming that the MRI is a necessity -for the peer the peer, ( as not only that’s what my insurance informed me of what needs to be done for them to authorize the MRI. but also that’s just a fact and what peer to peer insurance is and what it’s for ) which just haven’t been done, while my symptoms are growing worse past a month now. These staffs acted like they don’t even know what peer to peer insurance is asking me who I talked to over there as if it’s news to them .I took very strong meds, the steroid packet and Gabapentin as prescribed on my first visit which proves how severe sciatica is. I didn’t get a call back as told when I was having side effects with Gabapentin and needed tapering off directions. I’ve never dealt with negligence to this degree with any docs or hospitals in the past.Update: you see the BS comment by them now when I’ve been already calling them consistently for a month period and just got off phone with them. Shows how much they care ;). You guys call Me and all other patients you’ve been neglectful of after the doc has done his job and MRI authorized

Dr. Bassewitz, Was Very nice and professional.Their facility is very nice and clean. Also, they are thorough in their record keeping which I though was nice as I have been to places where they were not so thorough.

Dr. Bassewitz was incredible. I had been basically immobile for 3 days due to a problem with my lower back. His office got me right in as a new patient, and he (and his staff!) were extremely friendly, knowledgeable and thorough. He spent time with me in the office explaining everything and put a plan in place for me to try before coming back to him in a month to check my improvement. I would highly recommend him and his office to anyone!

I originally went to Dr Bassewitz 13 years ago after falling and herniating a couple of discs in my back. I found him to be thoughtful, patient and caring. So, when I needed a doctor for my neck issue I decided to go back to him. Its great that nothing has changed, hes still very caring and patient describing everything that was going on and possible treatments.

I highly recommend Dr. Bassewitz. He is honest, and direct. Takes his time to make sure you understand your diagnosis and will always go the least invasive route first if those options are available for your condition.

My first appointment!! Walked into waiting room and I panicked.... what a cattle call. However, I very quickly learned how efficient and organized the front office is. Before I knew it I was checked in and registered as a new patient and was waiting to see my new doctor. Dr. Bassewitz was very comforting and direct as to what my needs and wants were. Because of my workers comp claim my process requires authorization and review however I am confident that this will all be taken care of at this facility. I have just moved to the State of Nevada And I’m very happy with my experience with this doctor in this facility.

Dr. Bassewitz is a terrific doctor. 2 years ago, I messed up my lower back. After 10 months of being poked, prodded, X- rayed, and told pain management was my only option by other doctors, I made an appointment with D.O.C., and he found the issue on my MRI. Dr. Kim did some injections, and I could walk again. It was too late for surgery at this point.Recently, I started having some neck issues. I went DIRECTLY back to Dr. Bassewitz yesterday. I feel confident D.O.C. will give me the best advice and treatment, without milking my insurance for every irrelevant test ever created. Go here first.

He is very patient with my condition and every time i call his office to ask something his assistant angel was always eager to listen to me and take care of my needs on her own i never felt neglected Im on my 4th day post op now still tender but no discharges Dr. Bassewitz did a great job closing my wound it was very intact. If somebody would ask me where to go for a spine surgery would definitely tell them to go to Dr Bassewitz he is kind and polite and easy to deal with very good man. 👍

Very satisfied with this doctors not so quick to cut on me. His incomplete examination on me of the rest of my neck has left me with server neck pain. Because I dont need surgery I was passed to a colleague to deal with my issues. Incomplete written recommendations of pt on my file has left me struggling to see neck doctor not a surgeon. My review was based on overall care not personal handling of my care thats what it asked for.

Very happy with the doctor, he is a rockstar I do not know anything about the human anatomy besides the basics, and the doctor is great at explaining and working around your means. The issue that has been plaguing my spine was quickly identified.

Well what can I say about Dr. Bassewitz and Dr. Edmund.....This was probably the most stressful operation I have had. I have had back, face, shoulder and hand surgeries before having my neck issue. I went to 4 different surgeons and all came back with different plans on how to fix my neck. I read every review of each surgeon and when I chose to go see Dr. Bassewitz I was figuring he was to approach me with a similar attitude of I do this everyday no big deal. However it was a big deal to me but Dr. Bassewitz didnt do that he answered everyone of my questions as well as my wifes and explained the procedure in detail and let me decide without pressure which doctor to choose. I went home and reviewed more information watched more videos of the procedures than I should have. In the end I chose Dr. Bassewitz over the other specialist risks were the same for the most part except one very important detail. All the other doctors want to cut into the right side to address the disk replacement but Dr. Bassewitz went in through the left side removing the risk for the most part of the vocal cord nerve that can easily be damaged cutting on the right side as it is very hard to see until it is to late. Dr. Edmund explained everything to us in our Pre-op meeting in great detail and relieved any remaining stress I had about the surgery. Additionally I procedure he preformed did NOT involve cutting the muscles in the neck thus extending the recovery and adding PT to my treatment. Since they spread the muscles apart and went from the left side I was speaking at normal tone in less than 1 day and out of my brace in 7 days with about 65% range...no pain in the neck just stiffness from holding my head up and lack of sleep ....I am 14 day past surgery and am back at work, driving and feeling better and better each day...My recovery time has amazed both myself and my wife....Yes I push the limits but I know not to go to far to fast as I do not want to go backwards in my recovery. I plan to follow the Dr.s rules for recovery and look forward to addressing my lower back issue once recovered and would recommend Dr. Bassewitz and Dr. Edmund to anyone needing help in deciding where and who for surgery....
