Things have certainly changed since 2016 when we had this company for my Dad. Chaplain was right in his home timely to visit and give Dad the level of comfort he needed. I realize COVID may have some bearing on things in early 2021 but Mom came home in mid January 2021 with an expected stay of 24-48 hours. Seemed there was more focus on sending a financial representative out to get paperwork signed than sending a Chaplain to care for our needs. Mom passed in less than a day without ever a Chaplain visit or contact with us. It left a bad impression with my sister and me. Unfortunate things went this way since my 2016 favorable impression of Compassus is no longer favorable. More focus needs to be placed on spiritual needs of the patient and family. Contacting weeks after to see how things are going does absolutely no good. I have rated a two star only because obtaining necessary medical equipment and scheduling the transfer was timely. Even in a COVID era a visit could have been made. Neither Mom nor her family members had COVID and were tested negative.

We hired Compassus for hospice care for my mother that is in residence in a memory care unit. It was made clear to Compassus verbally, and in writing, that all medication needed to be approved by her DPOA before administration. Mom was having some respiratory distress. The RN on duty prescribed an opioid. It is unclear why as the drug is not used to treat respiratory issues and can actually cause more issues. The aide at the memory care noted to the Compassus RN that opioids were contraindicated. The RN prescribed it anyway. Mom was basically unresponsive for the entire following day. Unfortunately it was the day of her (probably last) family Christmas as well as her 91st birthday. Compassus stole that day from our family via sheer ineptitude.

Compassus is a wonderful organization focused on the care and symptom management of patients and also providing emotional and physical support to their families. I am proud to say I work there.
