The closest we’ve come to ice cream heaven is here!! We’ve had almost everything on the menu and it’s all been great. They have seasonal ice creams (like tomato ice cream in the summer time). The service is always great as well. I’m so glad they’ve reopened post COVID, and can’t wait to go back!! Oh! By the way, there’s a real pharmacy there too!! Headache from the brain freeze? No worries, they have you covered 😉

My wife took me to this place on my birthday and I didnt realize I will fall in love with a place like that. Very local style and amazing ice cream and shakes. My wife and I kept switching drinks while thinking which drink deserves to be the last taste in our mouths. This will be my main stop at least once a week.

This is a really fun place to get some ice cream. It is right in the middle of the newly thriving downtown area in Knoxville. Gay Street was the place to go back when soda fountains like this first became popular. They have great service and the food is good. Such a cute throw back store! I love that there are places still like this one in cities around the U.S. Its so fun to take a peek back a few decades ago and see things a little bit like they were then. The overall vibe is very 50s ice cream parlor / pharmacy. The ice cream portion is the front half, while the pharmacy portion is in the back half. They have a cute toy section right around the middle as well! The hubs snagged a sundae here and I got a few souvenirs for our nieces. They also had a super cute Tennessee magnet that I purchased as well.Overall: ACute nostalgic shop that will cater to your sweet tooth while also offering up some history!

We ordered it for four people the day that we went. The Sundays and shakes that we got were good. Unfortunately one of our orders got left off the ticket even though the waitress taking the order read it back to us twice. Upon realizing the mistake that guest was told they could wait in line again (a line almost to the door), reorder and pay for their ice cream. We understand that they dont want to just give out ice cream for free, but the inconvenience of their mistake was obvious. We ended up just taking the ice cream we had and leaving and finding something else for that guest to eat at a different shop. Their mistake cost them that sale. Dont expect customer service to be high on their list of priorities. As far as the ice cream, theyre servings are massive we recommend that a single person get the half order because a full order is definitely intended to be shared.

Shakes, sundaes, and salaciously sinful sodas... seriously though, this is desert you eat as an entire meal. I stopped in with some friends from work to celebrate some November birthdays and even with my ravenous 6 ft 4 appetite I was full all afternoon. Everything is homemade and incredibly balanced... taste, texture, flavor...If youve already had lunch or dinner I recommend splitting a sundae four ways.

Working at this shop has been a life-changing experience. The owner has taken each one of us under his wings and does his best to ensure we all have equal opportunities to learn, grow, and rise through the ranks. While scooping ice cream or making a milkshake may seem simple on the outside, the actual craftsmanship behind each sundae and shake takes immense amount of detail. The ice cream is all made downstairs, and my favorite thing to tell people is that we make everything here besides the sprinkles, peanuts, and cherries. Every item on the menu is unique and delicious in its own way, so I highly advise everyone to come down and try it! One taste and youll be hooked!!

Reminds you of the Its a Wonderful Life movie setting. The pharmacy is a true pharmacy, (the owners father is a pharmacist that oversees it) is located in the back of the fountain soda shoppe. Customer service was very pleasant & friendly. The shop was cute and quaint. With antique items in it bringing back the old pharmacy feel. The banana pudding flavor sundaes I had was delish and big enough to share. They were not expecting our work group of 21 people to show so they were overwhelmed. Ordering and getting our orders was unorganized but I give them grace because we were a large group all at once. They had plenty of space to seat us. Not in one table but we sat in several tables. The waitress was friendly but overwhelmed for sure. They have a two sided menu with many options like floats, sundaes, ice cream sandwiches, etc. This is a great place to get a refreshing treat. Plus theres a real working pharmacy located in the back of the store.

The Phoenix Pharmacy is a special place and Knoxville treasure that everyone should experience! It is a time capsule filled with everything you would want from a 1940s Soda Fountain and functioning pharmacy. This location and staff will always have a special place in my heart, because I was able to propose to the love of my life in one of the corner tables by the front window, eating ice-cream and working on a puzzle with the words “Will you marry me?” hidden in the puzzle. Without the aid of the owner and staff, I wouldn’t have had the wonderful proposal that I did. The staff are warm, welcoming, and sweeter than their ice-cream. If anyone is visiting Knoxville or living in the area, I would highly recommend trying out some of the amazing ice-cream or stopping in for a step back in time in a family atmosphere where everyone is welcome!

I could go on a long tangent about how amazing this place is in every way but to put it simply, the gentleman who owns it is a genius and it is essentially the craft beers of milk shakes. Won’t find a better milk shake anywhere. PERIOD.P.SI am going on a tangent. First time here I got an amazing milk shake and right after my first drink he ran out to me, quite embarrassed, and apologized because he didn’t believe the milk shake met the standard it should have before being given to me. He let me keep it and refunded me my money without me ever saying a complaint or anything to him. I thought it still tasted amazing but that goes to show you that they take extreme pride in their work, I know it’s just a milk shake but it’s nice that this type of work ethic and pride still exist.

Sigh, what used to be my favorite sweet treat destination in Knoxville is now yesterday’s bananas due to the attitude of a particular employee. I understand ice cream places are slower in the off season and don’t staff as many workers, but perhaps make sure that the only employee working doesn’t mistake being a soda fountain drink maker for being responsible to make everyone is as miserable as he is.In the summer months, there are waitresses in sock hop/soda fountain waitress-esque uniforms who are more than happy to take care of you and provide more authenticity to the feeling of taking a step back in time; however, the young man who wears the little white hat (sorry I don’t know the appropriate term for your important, power tripping hat) and operates the fountain has been very unnecessarily rude to my family twice now.Acting as though we just told him his dog died by asking for a table outside, he told us we had to order to-go in order to sit outside and walked away. If that’s the store’s policy, fine. But we had to ask for menus, and if looks could kill, we would have been lifeless puddles on the ground. I sat them back on the counter and we left (to the sight of four teenage guys smoking and drinking energy drinks taking their places at an outdoor table). The time before this he rushed us to order so he could go back to doing nothing on his phone, we were the only customers in the store mid day on a Friday. It’s not like he was in the weeds, and even if he was, we are customers! There are plenty of other ice cream joints one can go to nearby. Please get this guy an attitude check. All the sugar in that store and you let him be salty.

I just paid 10.75 after tip and tax for a Brownie Sunday I can only call mediocre. The vanilla ice cream had little to no vanilla flavor and had bits of ice that made the texture sub par. The brownie itself was a bitter dark chocolate brownie. With the proper ingredients a dark chocolate brownie would be great, but given the frozen milk passed as vanilla and the chocolate syrup that was also dark chocolate the whole dish comes across bland and disappointing. Throw in so-so service and Cruz farm across the street, and Im not sure The Pheonix will be around long.Go across the street pay half as much. Get much better ice cream and customer service.
