I was referred to Dr. William Hovis for knee surgery. He not only was condescending, but refused to allow me to speak, ask questions, or anything of that nature. He was aggressive, unprofessional, and provided ZERO post-operative care. Let me do the talking sweetie, is his favorite phrase. DO NOT GO TO THIS PERSON FOR ANYTHING! Im not certain if hes simply sexist, or if he mistreats everyone like this. I have no idea how long my recovery will take or anything because nothing was ever discussed. I have 10 pages of notes regarding the inappropriate comments and lack of medical support or treatment I received. GO TO SOMEONE ELSE.

I went to Dr. Hovis because I had to be seen by an Orthopedic Surgeon, and my health ins. covered him.I had fallen down in a mall (which I told him), and because I already have back issues, I had to see him to see why my pain had gotten so much worse. Pretty much my whole back hurt, he asked me what hurt and I pointed to the areas. However, my insurance company told me they would only cover one area of my back. So, I picked my lower back because that was the worse. So, he did a picture review of my lower back. He had me take my shoes and socks off. He had me stand up bend down. I only bent down to 45 to 50 degrees. I also told Dr. Hovis that I was having more numbness in my buttocks and upper back legs than usual. He checked them some, but he didnt find anything.I told him I didnt have an attorney. I needed to just see why I was in so much pain. A few months later, I called his secretary to get a copy of the results because even though there was no lawsuit going on, if my insurance didnt cover the emergency room bills, Primary Care Dr. bills, Dr. Hoviss bill, Chiropractor bills, etc...., then I would have to do a lawsuit. The pictures showed lower back issues, and things he suggested I do.But, he put in the paperwork that I pointed to different parts of my back when he asked what part hurt (of course I did, he asked me what hurt, so I showed him, even though the insurance would only cover one part). Then, he also said that even though I could only bend down to 45 or 50 degrees, I was witnessed picking up my sock. I dont remember picking up my sock from a standing position, only from sitting. But, if I did bend down, he was very aware that I was taking care of myself at home, with no help. Also he said I walked around the room with no problems. Of course I did, it took a matter of seconds. I was unable to stand or sit for any length of time at home. On top of my back issues, I had sprained my ankle when I fell. So, nothing came easy for me. I told Dr. Hovis that my buttocks and upper back legs had been more numb than usual. He didnt find any issues there, however when I got home, I investigated why the numbing had gotten worse because it was scaring me. I found that when you have back issues, you can have numbing of the buttocks, and of the upper back legs. I also found out that if you have a slip and fall, it can make the numbing issues worse than normal. He said I was well pleasant and well maintained (just because youre in pain, you dont have to go places looking bad, or acting bad. Youre in public, you do what you have to do). When I received this information from Dr. Hoviss office, I called and spoke to someone about it (maybe the lady at the front desk). I told her how unhappy I am with this letter. I told her I was in terrible pain and that he made me look like a liar. I asked her how I can get it changed. She said I could send in a letter, but it wouldnt change anything because the information is computer generated. I kept trying to explain to her that the computer didnt add the things he said, only the findings. But, it was to no avail. If you need to see an Orthopedic Surgeon, my suggestion to you is to look around. Make sure you find someone that has feelings for what youre going through. You need to know that you are being taken seriously. Its not fair to have any doctor make you feel like you are lieing.

I was sent to Dr Hovis for an MRI in attempt to figure out whats wrong with my hip. First thing I did was pay $500 and fill out paperwork. After waiting an hour I went back and had x-rays taken, the same exact x-rays I brought with me but he wanted his own. He then came into my room with the x-rays and told me I was too fat and refused to do the MRI! He was rude and unprofessional and now Im out $500 and still no MRI! I havent worked in some time now because of my hip and I had to put his $500 on a credit card. I feel like I was robbed!

Horrible experience with his rude condescending attitude towards me! dont waste your time and money for his condescending answer to your pain! I only wish Id googled these reviews before I let my doctors office set me up with him! Ill get the MRI scheduled with someone else. He told me I was a fool! He offered NO alternative to ibuprofen when I asked! He was hostile when I would ask a question! He made me feel like dirt because I have to work hard for my living! I was raised to be independent! He offered me only an MRI,inj injections in my spine and therapy. I left very upset, like why bother trying to get help! One week after seeing dr. Hovis I went to Dr. McNaughton in West Knoxville. He was polite and didnt put me down for being a working woman. He didnt question my marital status *like all women should live off a man* He couldnt believe that I had never been offered Mobic for my RA. Hes trying me on that for 30 days and its remarkable! I can pick up my purse without wincing in pain from my RA! I can sleep mostly and its only been 7days! Not all of my pain is gone but its much better!

My husband and I have known Dr. Hovis for 16 years when he did hip replacement surgery on him. The whole experience was very positive, and my husband was very happy with the results of the surgery. Within the past year and a half, Dr. Hovis operated on my husbands other hip, and also did a knee replacement for him. He now lives with virtually no pain, and can now do things that he has not been able to do in years. The folks in Dr. Hovis therapy department are very caring, knowledgeable and compassionate, and were instrumental in getting my husband to where he is today. We recently referred two of our good friends to Dr. Hovis, and they are also very pleased with the results. We will always be extremely grateful for the fine surgical work that Dr. Hovis did on my husband, and would highly recommend him.
