My mother was ordered here a few years back by a practicing physician in the Florida Hospital of Kissimmee that happened to also be practicing at this center, The Palms. Not only was she mistreated, the doctor refused to speak to us, the family about her condition worsening literally overnight. And her conditions worsened when she was admitted into The Palms. Her neglect came from this physicians lack of knowledge regarding the effects of two medicines (out of a long list of them) that did not work well together. There were even case studies of similar cases I soon after found online by way of her practitioner and she and other colleagues agreed that this was a major mistake that could have saved my mother pain and anguish suffered also by the family due to the incompetence of their network of physicians at The Palms. And because of the hesitance the doctor showed up front, it lead me to believe The Palms was just this new, inexperienced facility that may just be insurance/medicaid/medicare money hungry.

I think the people in charge think that the patients are getting appropriate care, but there is a definite lack of care by the nursing staff. Either the staff is not knowledgeable enough, there is not enough monitoring of the nursing staff, or they are really short staffed. A patient should not get hospital acquired infections if protocols are in place and are being used properly. The facility is probably very good for longterm care, but really lacks insight into sub-acute rehab care. My husband had elevated fever and infection of his wound for several days and until I removed him myself and brought him into and emergency room where he was admitted for osteomyelitis (a bone infection) and better wound care. This set him back in his recovery another 7 weeks and cost medicare a little fortune.
