Im a plant person (even though I cant keep them alive) so I literally was in nirvana just enjoying the bustling floral and plants in this place.I went to their Butterfly Garden and it was just so peaceful. They came so close that I could have touched them with my hand! They also have some plants for sell if you want to take a little one back to your abode.Best of all, its FREE! They do take donations if you wish to contribute tho.Definitely add this to your trip and check out the Higgs Beach Pier and/or Edward Knight Pier nearby as well!
I was very impressed by this botanical garden. The fort made it so much more special and added a historical aspect to it and Iβm glad I got to learn a bit of history on it when entering. The cactus were my favorite. They were HUGE yβall! Definitely check this place out if you are a plant lover. Itβs right on the beach as well and you get the relaxing sounds of the waves in the background as your browse the plants and you can just sit and enjoy nature here. One of my favorite spots I visited in kw.
Best Wedding place! We didnt want a beach wedding and this place is basically on the beach. We got married in at most beautiful botanical gardens at the gazebo with the ocean behind us. The views are amazing. I couldnt have picked a better place. It was like having a beach wedding without all that sand that I didnt want but with the ocean. We got married June 16, 2019 on Fathers Day. I highly recommend this if you dont want a beach wedding but would like a botanical garden wedding with a ocean view.
One of my favorite spots in KW. Ocean views are surpassed only by the beauty of the natural plants. Butterfly garden was full of monarchs. Quite spectacular.
A beautiful , peaceful spot overlooking the ocean. Lots of history here.
One of my favorites in Key West I like to stop here after the long drive down the Keys for a little R&R. Theres no charge but they do accept donations which I highly suggest. There are benches and places to stop and reflect on the wonderful breeze that comes off the ocean especially up by the Gazebo and ocean front area. There are so many cute quiet places here. The seating by the small pond is very stress relieving too. Absolutely a must here in Key West.
This was a place my mom picked out on a flyer and wanted to go. They call her the plant lady at work. It was nice to see how they had worked with the remains of the fort, you could see the structure from a different perspective. Mom loved to see all the plants grown up as big as a person or larger that she just has in little pots at home. Very vibrant colors. Butterflies were hopping around the butterfly garden. There were nice places to sit and relax.
Its is a nice shirt walk around the old fort and gardens. They have a nice butterfly garden. Its by the beach and very peaceful
One of our very favorite parts of our vacation to Key West. The gazebo, orchids, and oceanfront views are spectacular. The volunteer staff are knowledgeable and welcoming.Hurricane Irma took a toll on the gardens but they have been managed to restore it to beauty. Well worth a visit!
Flowers are not my deal...but this place was impressive. The volunteers are great and help guests understand the different flowers and plants in the area....including some of the insects present. I have the feeling that if you enjoy flowers and plant life this place is heaven. It has an interesting history to add to the unique nature of the place.
Beautiful garden that is for the most part volunteer kept. This place has been through alot with the hurricanes but they some how always seem to build it back better and more beautiful. Would definitely recommend this place for anyone. It is free but if you can spare it, donations are certainly welcome.
Beautiful
I happened to walk past here once on a trip and I make it a stop every time I come now. This garden is unique for its setting and beautifully kept. You can also observe plenty of butterflies or sit in the shade on the old walls and watch the pelicans fish and the waves gently roll in. Admission is free but they accept donations which I think are more than warranted for what you get.
Stopped in by chance, and it was stunningly beautiful. The plants, flowers, and views of the ocean are unmatched.
What a perfect place to get away from the activity on Duval Street and step into a private paradise. The clubs members have done an incredible job restoring the grounds since the damage caused by Irma. Many of the areas have already grown into themselves, especially the butterfly garden.Although this is a free attraction, please consider donating towards the restoration.
We are open 9:30am - 5pm again, our normal operating hours.
This is a beautiful place to go and see all the flowers grown there. It is free to the public. It is just a peaceful and beautiful place to spend an afternoon.
Beautiful job especially after all the hurricane damage previously. Love the fact that its taken care of by volunteers from the community!! And it was free...we left a donation for them.
Such a beautiful place to visit! Iβve never seen anything like it! So peaceful and smells and looks wonderful!
We always enjoy visiting the botanical gardens. It is full of beautiful flowers and is right by the ocean.
This is a great little place to add to your day. Admission is free, however the club does rely on donations. Once inside it was nice to enjoy to stroll around and enjoy the gardens. Being so close to the water, there was a nice breeze flowing through the shady gardens, which provides a nice place to cool down on a hot day.
Happen to just walk passed this beautiful place so we stopped in. Glad we did, it was breath taking. It is free, but donations are greatly appreciated to keep it up and going. Would highly recommend.
Very nice, beautiful, usually quiet, pretty big (not huge) and best of all, free. They have a donations jar but Ive never been pressured to use it. Cant think of anything bad to say about this place.
Very nice gem in Key West - Donation/self-funded gardens with a wide variety of plants and settings, a nice library and some interesting history. The staff was well informed. Great location.
Kathleen is exceptional. She helped us out with wedding planning details and helped us make this lovely garden the place I will marry my soon to be wife.
This was a very cool place to visit. It is located next to the beach in an old civil war fort. They have many different species of native area plants that you can observe. You can give them a small donation to help them out. The members are very friendly and very knowledgeable about the different plant life that are located here. It is worth the trip to visit them while in the area. There wasnt a large crowd so it made it very enjoyable.
Fantastic garden to visit for the whole family. Garden enthusiasts will enjoy the wide variety of plants while the rest will enjoy veiwing the old forts walls and rooms.
An enjoyable afternoon at a shady spot with lovely trees flowers and butterflies. Nice self gudied tour and Elaine from Wisconsin was a delight.

This was a beautiful garden with incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff. We took beautiful photos here and saw some interesting wildlife
Loved it there very interesting place to go. Will be going back.
Beautiful serene garden setting beside the waters edge. Huge selection of blossoming flowers, shrubs, trees. Hurricane Irma damaged this Fort terribly, but with dedicated volunteers beauty emerges. Visit!
The local garden club of Key West has made this a spectacular Venue
Beautiful gardens within an old weathered fort. Great for pictures. Donations are accepted, although the attraction has been free of charge for years.

Very unique and often undiscovered site in Key West. Amazing coverage of tropical and local plants covering a former Civil War fort. Check it out if you need a break from the hustle and bustle of Duval Street.
Really beautiful trees and flowers in the historic fort.
Beautiful, free, and lush botanical gardens in an old fort.
Interesting but not outstanding designed gardens. Excellent and informative staff.
Just a beautiful place with such cool history. We visit here every time we come to KW.
Its ok. Still not up to par after the hurricane. Still worth going to see as youre leaving from a disappointing beach day
The location is beautiful and some of the plant life I have never seen before.
