Started a few months ago with no martial arts background. Bill was extremely receptive and welcoming. His classes are professional, informative, and fun. The other participants are a great group focused on helping everyone get better. Its a fantastic workout and teaches many skills. I highly recommend to ALL!

I cant recommend Bill Brazilian Jiu Jitsu enough. I started training with Professor Bill when I moved to Jacksonville last month. Its been really amazing to find a welcoming community so quickly in my new town.As a 40 year old beginner it was intimidating to walk in the first day but that quickly passed. Many people introduced themselves and made me feel comfortable. The instruction is clear and easy to follow. I am surrounded by knowledgeable people who take the time to ensure I learn proper techniques.

This is a fantastic place with a dedicated husband and wife team and well trained assistants that teach every age group from 4 years old to adult. Our granddaughter attends and we are not only impressed with how and what she is learning on the physical end but also life lessons. Ava attends one hour sessions 3 times per week and when we attend can see her self confidence growing as well as her respect for herself and others. Teacher Bill as well as all involved work on the mats and hands on showing the classes not only how to do the various holds but what are the results of correct and incorrect actions. At a recent class I listened to Instructor Bill challenge his students to always do the most difficult task at home or school as that is what will make you a better person...how often do you hear others offering that challenge? I cannot give this place a higher rating than a 5 and suggest you stop in with your child or grandchild and not only see but experience a truly professional organization that will help you and your children become better persons.

I have been to two of the womans self defense classes so far. Every time Ive attended a class Ive walked away with helpful go-to moves that I could use in the streets if something was ever to happen.The class is fun, easy to follow, a workout, and in a positive and professional environment. My husband and my two sons have been going to Bill’s for over three years, and we all love it! There are not many activities where parents can actively participate alongside their kids, but they all get to do jiujutsu together 4-5 times a week. Started with my son about a month and half ago. Its been a great experience. Professor knows how to deal with kids and keeps then engaged throughout training. At times it feels like he is an uncle who not only gives out great Ju Jitsu training but he finds a way to interweave great life lessons, the success of the kids seem paramount. I have been training for just over a month at Professor Bills academy. Holy cow, joining this gym was the best decision I have made in a long time! Professor Bill and all of his instructors are amazingly cool people. The quality of the instruction is very high, which also leads to a crop of well trained and knowledgeable students. This place truly is a Jiu Jitsu family, and Professor Bill is a man that takes his teaching seriously, he has his heart invested in all his students. My 10 year old son has been training here for 3 months now. It has been very beneficial to him. In an era where kids lives are ruled by iPhones, tablets and gaming consoles, it can be very difficult getting them interested in any real world activities. My son has been training here for six months. Professor Bill and his wife Allie along with all of his instructors are very kind, respectful people. They are interested in helping the parent develop their child in more than the art of Jiu Jitsu. I highly recommend this dojo to both children and adults that study or looking to study jui jitsu!! My two children take classes 3 times a week and look toward to going every time. Professor Bill and his wife are really great at teaching the children the techniques. They are very patient, kind, and helpful!! If you join the membership forever, you just pay $135 a month, but if you want to cancel it, you need to pay at least 3 more months fee and the cancellation fee. Because you sign the third party contract and no one really take the responsibility to manage the membership, they only manage the membership fee! So before you join the club, think about it, and if you want to cancel, just cancel, don’t freeze your account, it will cost you more money.

I have been to 7 classes so far and there is one thing that stands out above everything...support. When we spar/roll every training partner I have worked with has been awesome. I love this studio.Full disclosure: I am an absolute beginner to BJJ, so cant compare to other studios.What I do know is that the Professor has built an amazing community, with a group of people who travel from all over to participate. Professor Bill is an excellent teacher, and has a solid group of teachers / senior students who patiently work with the beginning students. (That would be me).If you are going to commit to learning the sport or improving your skills, make sure to do it right.For most of us, this studio is the answer.

Great experience for my 7 year old daughter. Bill and his team have been very patient and attentive to her lack of experience (first timer) and her comfort level in a new sport. Could not be more pleased with Bill Bazilian Jiu Jitsu, and proud of my daughters progress in a short amount of time.

Been going for a little over a month now. Very glad I signed up and committed to make this part of my life. A bit rough on your body at times, but I expected as much and attempt as best I can to work on strength and endurance outside of class which I can tell helps. Community in class is great, very welcoming, and Bill is the best around. Highly recommended if youre looking for a good BJJ class and environment for both competitive types or more low-key types.

Absolutely amazing. True to the art. This place has the full package; cardio, strength training and spiritual. I dont run unless Im being chased and I dont lift unless Im building something, so treadmills and weights arent my thing. Ive been here for two months and Ive lost inches off my waist line and have gained noticeable muscle mass. Add to that a professor that teaches the techniques in a fun but challenging environment, and I see no reason to join a gym so I can pick stuff up just to put it back down or run 5 miles and not go anywhere. All the other students are very helpful and supportive, obviously following from their professors example. Every day I leave class Im exhausted, and every morning I wake up I cant wait to go back. After two months I have enough techniques to be effective on the mat, and Im loving every step my journey in Jiu Jitsu with the guidance from Professor Bill. Go check it out and get on the path to something that wont only improve you physically but mentally and spiritually as well. Unless youre scared...

As an observant and overly concerned grandfather ... I was once worried about my youngest grandsons view of his surroundings. The development and maturity I have seem in the last year is a credit to the Professor ... he has helped give Cameron a self-confident, but respectful manner. I see inspiration in Cameron ... perhaps it is mutual.Very few youth have the opportunity to be part of a program with the experience and skill level provided by the Professor. Cannot recommend this program more enthusiastically!

I’ve been training for only about two months, but it was just something from the first day that made me want to come back over and over again. Nothing but great things to say about this place.!! The people are great and the coaches are knowledgeable and teach and a lot.!! Definitely somewhere I would recommend to both experienced and those new to martial-arts.!! Professor Bill demonstrates a high level skill and technique when teaching his students. He is always watching the kids for safety. He encourages our son as well as the other kids to do their best and always be respectful. Professor Bill understands that each child he teaches is unique, with different strengths and weaknesses. My husband has been going here for a few weeks now, and it has been nothing short of a wonderful experience! He has much respect for Professor Bill, and always comes home gleaming with many stories to tell! He learns so much from the FAMILY that this school is made up of. The studio is nice, the other students friendly, and the instruction good. Despite my positive comments, I dont plan to go back. Students are required to wear heavy uniforms over their clothing, yet no air conditioning was provided, and this in the Florida heat. It was bad enough for me to complain about after class. The instructors response was to cite tradition and claim that overheating improves the benefits of exercise. An online search for health benefits of overheating at the gym actually said the opposite.

I emailed Professor Bill a few times before I attended my first class. When I walked into his facility for the first time he knew exactly who I was. He greeted me warmly and lent me a gi to train in. Fantastic professor, I am a experienced martial artist and knew in the first 5 minutes that Bill is the real deal. I highly recommend Professor Bill BJJ academy! I have been a part of the academy since August. This is a place where you can learn, practice, and enjoy Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with friendly people from beginner to experienced levels. BJJ is challenging but very rewarding. After 12 years of being inactive on BJJ, I decided to start all over and began training again to bond with my 14 year old son and to get my self back in shape. I am glad I found Bill. He is disciplined, tough and fair with all the students. His 35 years of experience shows on his attention to detail on every BJJ technique he teaches. He observes every student and is adamant about proper technique execution. His passion for the sport is evident as he spends equal time with every student, especially the little ones, which he looks after as if they are his own children. My 9-year-old daughter has been training at this dojo for a year and half, and what a difference that makes! Shes not only grown physically stronger and much better at jiu jitsu, but shes gained so much confidence, determination, and respect for the art. My shy little girl has come out of her shell! Professor Bill is top notch. He is patient with the kids and makes sure to not only teach them techniques, but discipline and life principles to be practiced outside the dojo. Hes even taking time to teach them words in Portuguese. :) You can tell he is very passionate to bring up the next generation of jiu jitsu fighters. We are VERY happy we found this place. Its family-oriented and such a great experience for our daughter. I would HIGHLY recommend this place.

If you want the summarized version, this is a great place to practice Jiu-Jitsu. If you want the long version, well…I was originally trained in Kenpo, a martial art that combines the fluidity of Shaolin Kung Fu with the rigid form of Karate. After spending almost two or three years doing it, my interest began shifting elsewhere, to Jiu-Jitsu. I was entranced by the way grapplers flowed on the ground, the way they moved their bodies. It was a beautiful combination of strength and skill, and after having the opportunity to spar with a BJJ practitioner first-hand, I realized I wanted to pursue this further. That was around the time I got the internship opportunity down in Jacksonville. With a new city and new environment, I decided it was time to pursue my interests and formally train in Jiu-Jitsu. That’s what led me to Bill Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.If I were to describe this place in a word, I would say mature. If you’re looking for an brutal, hard-core competitive environment, this is not the place for you. Here at Bill Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a heavy emphasis is placed on respect and family. It doesn’t matter if you have the skills, that can be taught over time. What matters here is your attitude. This reflects on both the instructors as well as the students. Even though most of the guys in my class are all built like tanks, they sincerely want to help each other improve. There’s a sense of camaraderie. Certainly, there’s friendly competition and bantering, but at the end of the day, there’s respect, and that’s hard to come by these days.If there were any nitpicks I have, it would be in the way the professor communicates. It becomes readily apparent that English is not his first language, and that language barrier can make it difficult for him to articulate precisely what he means. However, in time, you get used to it as you slowly get to know the man. And that’s when you realize, his actions speak louder than his words. He has immense skill, no doubt about it, but he also has humility. He doesn’t carry himself with the pompous airs of a master, but instead, has a very down-to-earth attitude, making him very relatable. You’d be hard pressed to find a man quite like him, one who has that kind of maturity and skill.Overall, I appreciate the homely feeling I get when I’m here. The skilled, yet kind instructors and supportive students inspire me to come back again and again. It’s frankly the highlight of my day after a long, grind at work. Although I was only here for a short time, only six months. I learned so much about myself and my capabilities as a martial artist. My advice: if you’re a prospective student, you get as much out of this class as you put in. And I promise, if you put the work in, you’ll have a blast.Shout-out from New York, Prof. Bill!

Excellent place to train! Great workouts! Love the atmosphere, camaraderie, and method of instruction. Its obvious Professor Bill is passionate about his Art and demonstrates a genuine interest in sharing his knowledge. At the ripe age of >50, that was important to me. To add, I liked that his facility focuses on the Art of Brazilian Jiujitsu (Gi & No Gi), which makes things very comfortable and less complicated! So if youre tired of watching the same old stuff on TV, or surfing the net for endless hours of wasted time, come on over and check it out! You might surprise yourself.

Air conditioning, quality staff, quality facility, world class instruction. Professor Bill and his wife are very nice people and so are his fellow coaches. I feel safe in an environment where I can have fun learning Jiu Jitsue without high risk of injury. Bill Jiu Jitsue is a great Jiu Jitsue academy where I have fun learning self defence with other students. In my opinion after researching and visiting multiple academys Bill Jiu Jitsue is the best Jiu Jitsue academy in Jacksonville.
