I have been waiting to get my son in a Residential facility which has been recommended by numerous professionals. He has a lot of mental issues, is abusive both verbally and Physically, he has been expelled from his private school unless he completed residential treatment. He has been baker acted 3 times, arrested once and has failed all outpatient therapy. He is in the highest level of care outpatient which includes a team of 5 people, including 2 therapists, a psychiatrists, and LPN and a case worker and has just continued to escalate over the past year. By the way, my son is 9! He is adopted and we do not know much about his medical or psychiatric history. New Directions decided to deney his authorization for Residential stating it could be resolved outpatient! I have heard from 3 different facilities that New Directions would never approve it. They have told me stories about adolescents who have swallowed laundry detergent and then got into a bathtub with a hairdryer but she was also denied. Kids who have written suicide letters and attempted, also denied. There are no children in any residential treatment centers with BCBS who have been approved for more than 2-3 days. this is unconscionable and they are preventing these children from having a better chance of success in their lives all to save a buck!!!! If I could give them a negative amount of stars, I would. I will be going to the news with this story as well because they can not continue to get away with this. I read their admission criteria and my son fits every category. This has to stop and parents need to get up and fight for what is right!!!
