Follow Up Re: Appointment DenialA director generally acknowledged my complaint & asked me to repeat it.I told him to review what I wrote & ask me to fill in necessary details. He, then, needed to pull up my complaint, quickly reviewed it during the phone call, & partially offered the least important part of my requests.I requested evidence of structural change and an explicit apology and a promise to work toward better practices. Here, is what the director offered & my responses, expressed & unexpressed. He called w/ no offering of any evidence of future cultural change or a promise to do better practices. He continued to explain why these shifts were not necessary because their culture was fine. From beginning to end, he refused to honor, now or in the future, these requests & continued to explain why these goals will not be considered, prioritized, or solved in novel ways no longer reflecting their discriminatory biases, access, & protocols.“We talked to the person who made this mistake. She wants to own it & apologize to you. Shes new & still being trained. At the time of your call, no one was available to help or monitor our call. Her behavior doesnt reflect our culture but perhaps the culture of her previous employer who we might be more inclusive than because we do allow people treatment regardless of ability to pay. Would you like help scheduling an appointment?”I commended him for not terminating her in a time of economic upheaval. I mentioned her bravery for deciding to contact me & advised I would be open to her email.Im aware & have witnessed companies shifting their part in creating these mistakes stemming from their issues like under-staffing, lack of complete education to reduce incompetency, and lazy quality control onto those who have the most to lose and least control in deciding how they will respond. This shirking of executive power onto the shoulders of a receptionist is a representation of your culture. The blame of a previous employers education & culture to excuse your erroneous practical & cultural training was unprofessional, irresponsible, & unethical. This discussion led me to believe there are more severe issues than one person forgetting to ask if I could pay with cash.“It’s beyond my pay grade.”Instead of going above and beyond his pay grade to provide exceptional, personal, compassionate care or at least refer my concern to someone whose pay grade met this issue, he continued unsatisfactorily talking while not addressing the issue.“It’s a large national problem, and I am only responsible for my office.”Professing one of the largest, Ithaca medical groups had no resources or abilities to attempt changes in legislation & other healthcare reforms in Ithaca as well as spreading this influence by supporting the many groups who work toward New York state healthcare reform was misinformed or at least misleading.“I can only control what I can control.”He said this to me, a person with no or less control than him, while I am directly asking him to enact a new sense of his control to help me.I told him he also had control to determine what he considered he could control that he could review it not as static or rigid but dynamic & changing & perhaps its his responsibility to practice this type of control instead of reverting back to some sort of helplessness or limitation to promote change while holding a title of power like director.“I continuously strive to uphold providing high quality care to the Ithaca community.”When asked what concrete examples he or the group do to express this initiative, he advised he was not dodging the question but decided to send this inquiry to the public relationships department. So, I await emails about your initiatives with uncertainty if these plans involved any stakeholders in their planning and execution.

I was impressed by my Physical Therapist, she was friendly, kind and described my injury in a way that helped me understand what had happened inside that was causing pain. After a number of sessions and practicing exercises between those sessions, I was able to fully recover from my injury.I would have given 5 stars if the parking situation wasn’t so messed up at the Island Health building.

Last year Tim Reynolds helped me develope a program for my neuromuscular problem that caused soreness when I walked and woke me up at night with the pain. By continuing the regimen he started me on, I am now pain free and thrilled to be more active than ever. In regards to the previous review about cost I can say that CMC, in general, charges individuals outrageous amounts if they are paying out of pocket. Luckily my insurance covered up to 20 visits. The last 10 requiring a physician referral. I have learned the hard way to ask first about the cost of service before proceeding with a provider.

Overall, I received a below average experience from Island PT. The center was not transparent about the billing, and Ive never seen any physical therapist charge $200 for a 30 minute session. Especially when a third of the time is me warming up on a bike. When I saw the bill I was in a bit of disbelief. After shopping around, I realized the norm was closer to $100 for a 1-hour session. In addition, the employees would have their attention divided, so my 30 minutes was not even exclusive treatment and attention.
