I really wish I had found these online reviews before going there. Like most everybody else, I waited over 4 hours with no updates along the way. 5 other folks around me were in the same boat. When the doctor finally saw me, he read my symptoms to me and asks What do you want me to do about it? After going back and forth for a few minutes, he told me to go home and try Tylenol. He wasnt at all trying to be nice or even professional, and he made it very clear that he just wanted to free up a bed. I do not recommend this hospital at all. After digging around this morning, I found an article about how someone died in their waiting room. What a horrible way to go, in a hospital, in a freezing waiting room surrounded by nurses/doctors ignoring you.

I hope this message finds it’s way to those that took such great care of me during my surgery. The admin staff, nurses, doctors, anesthesiologist, and neurosurgeon were absolutely amazing.Rachel, Amy, Ilan, Abby, Jen, Dr. Mahmoud, and surely other names I am forgot during anesthesia. All of you were fantastic individuals and made me feel extremely comfortable during surgery. The laughs and fun conversations were a real highlight of our stay, so thank you all very much for your kindness!

This is about my experience with them for 2 years ago when my baby was born there. Absolute perfect midwives and excellent delivery experience but then things got changed. No support from nurses at all, we were left alone all on our own till next morning. None of our questions were answered and they verbally abused my wife during lactation and other stuff. Even the pediatric were shocked when they visited the baby next morning. With all means avoid there for your child born.

I came in with a friend who severely cut his hand. His wound was VERY serious and the hospital staff did not attend to him until well over 4 hours of us being there. The entire time he was bleeding and at one point he began to start shaking and feeling light headed. We kept calling nurses over to express the severity of his injury and we were continuously ignored and dismissed. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had while trying to receive medical care.

Zero star if I could. Do not go there. My 2 years old daughter was in pain, so we went to ER. We waited for three hours at the ER. A nurse got our information and vital and sent us back to the waiting room. She said it takes even more longer and when we asked how long, nobody answered. Finally, we decided to leave without getting service.

As a person with Crohn’s, I have been in this hospital many times in the almost 20 years I have lived here. The care from every single medical department has always been top notch. From Radiology to Infusion, from the baby ward to the emergency room, I have never had a bad experience at this hospital. Most recently, my mother had to visit the ER. The staff was attentive, informative and kind, despite us having to quarantine until our negative COVID results came in. Thank you for your professionalism and care. I trust my life and that of my loved ones at this hospital.

Went in because me and my one year old randomly got a bad cold, really bad that she would cry & was throwing up plus a fever. Nurse said it would be a few minutes to get a room. No one was in the waiting area. A few minutes turn into 6 hours. We waited 6 hours and never got seen , we slept in the waiting room, in uncomfortable chairs with no updates on when we will be transferred to a room. As well as when we would wake up the waiting area filled up with 10 plus more people then before. This hospital is the absolute worse I went home with no medicine for my child nor were we seen. I even asked the nurse how much longer with no solid answer. This happened not once to me but three times.

The medical care I received was adequate. However, the billing department here is the most hostile and inept I have ever encountered, and their self-service system for the hospital itself and the associated services is byzantine beyond belief. Despite my 5-digit surgical bill otherwise being paid in full, they sent me to collections for TWENTY DOLLARS and put a huge ding on my credit without ever attempting to communicate with me. This week it took from Monday to Friday for my surgeons office to get an ultrasound scheduled. And it will not happen for 13 days after I was told by the surgeon that I need one for a diagnosis to be made. Two issues. One is the M to F time it takes for CMC to schedule an appointment (reasons are their system was down and the phones werent working, but there is a difference between reasons and excuses CMC). And two, why can X-Rays be scheduled within a few days but there is a 8 or more day waiting line to get an ultrasound--inadequate staffing, not enough equipment, or just a very poorly run Medical Center? When I told this story to my medical providers at Guthrie in Sayre, they were aghast. My experience at Guthrie in Sayre this week: A shuttle bus picked me up from parking lot and delivered me to front door, where Volunteer Transport helpers wheeled me to the 5th floor for lab tests, then from the lab to a doctors office to be seen by a doctor, who within an hour had my lab test results to discuss with me, The difference between quality of care and service by CMC vs Guthrie at Sayre is astonishing!

Amazing staff and healing environment. I was treated for an emergency surgery and, compared to the many other hospitals I’ve experienced, I was able to recover in beautiful, quiet surroundings. the doctors and nursing staff took care of me throughout the stay and carefully monitored my healing process. I stayed for 17 days and couldn’t eat for several days so they gave me a picc line nutrition support. They also treated me for chronic fatigue caused by anemia—so I received two iron infusions and magnesium and potassium infusions. I left much healthier and happier than when I arrived.

I had to order my own CBCs because the nurses and doctor basically ignored my complaints, and they tried to let me go without testing me again for what I went in for (if I had left when they wanted me to - I would have had complications, so be prepared to advocate for yourself like crazy even if youre on pain meds). They accepted my insurance (and still do according to their website) and then charged me for thousands of dollars more, I worked with them to resolve it right after the fact as it was an error so I didnt pay it...because it was their billing error (read the comments, seems like its not uncommon for them).. but then last month (almost 5 years later, I dont even know how this is possible) it came up on my credit report as a COLLECTIONS DEBT. LITERALLY DRIVE TO ANOTHER TOWN BEFORE GOING HERE I DONT KNOW A SINGLE PERSON WHO HASNT BEEN BILLED INCORRECTLY. If you want to ruin your credit go to this hospital. Hi mamas,Just wanted to share an awesome experience I had with our health system here in Ithaca. 6 weeks ago I switched my primary care to Pine Point Medical and saw Tess for weird stomach pain. She was amazing and that day had orders in for me to get an ultrasound of my Gallbladder. Turned out I had gallstones (yay postpartum!!). Her and her husband Doug referred me to Dr. Rippich at the Cayuga Surgical Specialists office for a robotic cholecystectomy. Dr Rippich was so fantastic and eased all of my fears. Surgery day I was a hot mess and the staff at the hospital was so great in keeping me calm. The anesthesiologist was phenomenal and made me feel so safe and secure. Dr Rippich was calm and caring, the staff was so great, I wake up screaming from anesthesia so the staff let my support person be at my side when I woke up. Tess called me that day to check in after surgery and ensure I was doing ok. The whole experience was phenomenal. A month later and I am feeling amazing. The surgery was minimally invasive and I actually got yelled at at my follow up for not resting enough, that’s how great I felt a week post op.I literally cannot put into words how grateful I am for this health system and the awesome practitioners in our town. I cannot recommend pine point medical enough. These doctors are fantastic and Dr Doug Macqueen works at the hospital and knows everyone and can make great reccomendations. Our hospital system is so great and everyone is so professional. We are lucky here in Ithaca ❤️

The care I have received and that other family members have received has been exceptional for the most part. What prevents me from giving a five star rating is the billing system. Over time it has gone from sporadic late billing and late processing of payments to improper billing, poor tracking of payments, and phone calls of an almost harassing nature due to their sheer volume. My latest complaint is being called and billed multiple times about a bill that has already been paid, including confirmation from my bank that payment was rendered on such bill. And with confirmation that I did include the correct account/invoice number on my check. I do not believe it is my responsibility to follow up further with my bank because your record keeping and routing of payments are faulty. An unbelievable amount of stress and time spent for a $48.38 bill.

Having now left the ER not for first time mind you, for poor service, wait times beyond comprehension, and all around incompetence I can say with certainty that this is the worst ER on the planet. For the past 6 years my wife has had many health issues only made worse by surgery and ER visits to Cayuga Med. Each surgery ended in infection, picc lines and home nurses. Though they do have a few wonderful doctors they are busy apologizing for their co-workers. If you value your life and are in emergency need I would do my best to get to Upstate or hell anywhere else close enough to make it too. 8 hour waits when you think you have clot are unacceptable. Sitting without a word from a nurse or a doctor for hours unacceptable. Listening to the ER doc chat and joke with a nurse about his thought that my wifes pain is constipation right outside our room (CT showed the 5 inch tumor in my wifes hip that he couldnt see he must be blind) unacceptable. I could go on for days with the list of mismanagement, rudeness, incompetence, all around mess that this ER is but I think you get point. All these things could be easily fixed but it seems they have no care too. Nothing has changed in the last 6 years. I know there are good people there trying their best but if your life is on line I would think twice before going to Cayuga Medical Center ER.

I’ve had them before, and I know that pain medication and good care is absolutely vital during the process of passing the stone.I didn’t receive pain medication immediately or even quickly. I was taken to an ER room, given a vomiting bag, and was not given pain medication until I was found on the floor an hour and a half later crying on the floor and vomiting.I later received a CT scan, and shortly afterwards passed the stone. However, I wasn’t discharged until HOURS after this fact. I kept pressing the buzzer, and nurses would tell me they would discharge me soon, but had other patients to take care of. I arrived at the hospital at 7 AM, passed the stone around 11:30 or so, and wasn’t realized until at least 3 PM. This was on an ordinary weekday.Months later, I was billed a $600 bill for horrible care, one CAT scan, and some pain medication. I have great health insurance, and have never been billed this much for a kidney stone visit (im originally from Pittsburgh). I’m a pretty broke college student, and have been working overtime while being a full time student to pay this bill. I’m so upset by this experience, and I highly discourage anyone from stepping foot into this hospital.

When I complained they were very defensive and basically said it’s not their job to explain which job title tells the patients their information and that is ridiculous. There billing department is terribly incompetent and could not answer why I received a letter from a third party on behalf of CMC asking me for billing information they already had, she said that I should have received a bill from them which I did not and should not have as they had all my information and it’s workers compensation,, if they were on behalf of CMC then they already have the information they are asking for. But yet the lady in the billing department had no answers or idea at all . Besides the billing the actual care is a band aid, I went in knowing something was wrong with my knee and they took a x-ray and told me nothing was broken,, to go see an orthopedic doctor. I could have skipped the ER and x-ray and just went to an orthopedic cause I already knew that I didn’t break anything, I went in for my knee which is requiring surgery after my orthopedic doctor looked at it and sent me for a MRI. Thanks CMC for your care

Many thanks for a positive experience! Nurses were very empathetic and inquisitive. I was admitted with altered mental status due to a concussion. The neurologist helped me remember that I had a downhill skiing accident 2 days prior that I forgot. Brain swelling sucks! Cayuga Medical Center does not.

I went in for a Maxillary Osteotomy. Staff was very friendly and courteous. While I would like to give these people more than 1 star, not a single nurse I was assigned knew the recovery procedures for somebody who has had the operation. They had inadequate supplies to deal with the swelling that occurred and generally had no clue what to do with me. At one point we had to call the surgeon so that the nurses would have an idea what to do. Love the people, hate the service.

Be sure to get an estimate of what the physician will charge. They may bill you separately and you could be greatly surprised.

I was having an extreme pain with my left ear on summer day and I went there to get a treatment. Before I start my feedback I would like to let others know especially international students from middle East and in general not to go there by all means unless otherwise all others hospitals are close till end of the world. I got there and I explained that I need to see a doctor as soon as possible because of extreme pain in my left ear. I was about to lose consciousness from pain but secretary kept asking questions for about 15-20 minutes till I was completely resigned and was about to die and crying from pain. Once I got into a room nurse told me that doctor should come to see me shortly but another 15-20 minutes past away till doctor Li or Cho(I am sorry I cant remember her name) came to see me. Same steps but this time has been asked questions for 7-10 minutes. Doctor checked my ear and did something that pulled me over like thunder to my right side while I was in a seated position for the moment I couldnt hear at all. After all treatment I was been kept asked where I am from which brought my attention why I have been asked this question 3 times? My left ear hearing 80% and I am 23 years old now. I wish doctor will have a chance to read my feedback. I will hope for the sake of God not to forget a Hippocratic Oath to help anyone as best as she can which I dont think I got from here. I had an insurance from United health care but secretary didnt bothered to ask me for that. I told them that my insurance should cover the treatment but they sent me a bill anyways. In the end insurance company was surprised about why they didnt accepted the insurance and they let me know not to worry about and let the insurance company call the hospital. Please do not go there unless you are fully financially supported or not an international student(from middle East). I really hope there is a God exists and I will let him to be a judge. Please doctor Cho, please help others(as soon as you can) when other in need, at least for the sake of your promise that you gave to become a doctor. Thank you. Best wishes your international patient from summer 2016.

Easily the worst experience of my life. This is a poor excuse for medical care. The staff is extremely rude and incompetent. I was left alone in a room for hours just for someone to come back and give me discharge papers. These nurses are the worst people I have ever met and are an embarrassment to the medical community. I was left on the street with a fever and swollen tonsils because emergency rooms cannot provide tylenol. My uber driver actually took better care of me than these medical professionals

A lovely staff, however the waiting can be excruciating. I waited two hours to be allowed into the examination area, only to find out my appendix was on the verge of rupturing. When the pain became almost unbearable, I called for two different nurses requesting pain medication. It ended up taking twenty minutes for them to return at which point I was close to passing out from the pain. When it came time for the surgery and my actual admittance into the hospital though, the doctors and nurses couldnt have been more gracious and lovely. Id say that overall the hospital is great, but things could be managed a little better on the first floor.

I broke my wrist and went to the ER here. At 5 pm on a Saturday evening there was no wait and I was admitted immediately. It did not take long for a PA to see me and order x-rays. Even though the ER seemed reasonably empty, waiting for the x-ray results took 1 hour, getting a splint took another hour, and getting the x-ray results for my other wrist took a third hour. It was a little frustrating waiting so long just to hear whether or not my wrists were actually broken. One thing that bothered me is that I felt like a grocery store item. Before I received anything (tylenol, ice, etc) a lady would roll up with a glorified cash register, beep my wrist, then beep the item she was giving to me. I was imagining my bill rising every time she did that...

This is a terrible organization plagued by management which is just getting worse and worse. While individual practitioners are trying to do their best, the institutional failures are profound. You are much better off going elsewhere.

Just left the e.r. without making it past the waiting room. Because of chronic pain, I had to leave because I couldnt stand the pain anymore sitting in the waiting room. Im crossing my fingers and hoping my medical issue ( that my Dr sent me there for) isnt anything really serious. If it gets worse, we will just go to syracuse. In all the years Ive been going to this Hospital, and as frequently as weve had to; it has only gotten worse. Ive been reading comments from prior employees and almost every single one of them says that they are crazy under staffed. People have died because of it. They have talked to the administration repeatedly and they ignore it. I hate its the only Hospital in town. The administrators should be sued for negligence.

They knew what to do the last few times I was there so far its been a very friendly community base type of environment. but they do that to hide how racist they are.but what ever you do do not bring your children here racist people get strings pulled here, just letting it be known its bad enough the towns out here have a lot of racist and to add to it this hospital is one of there strong holds.

If it was possible to give you zero stars I would. I was there for 6 days (May 10th-15th) and the care was absolutely awful. Disrespectful nurses, uncalled for searches of my belongings, doctors would not do anything to help me, and the medications and equiptment I need for my disability was NOT EVEN CALLED IN! You people are lucky I didnt have a lawyer present! WORST HOSPITAL CARE IN THE STATE!!!

I went to the ER twice. The first time, they incorrectly diagnosed me with a UTI when I had blood in my vomit. I had another test done the next day at Cornell Health and confirmed I in fact did not have a UTI. When I told the nurse I did not think a UTI could result in bloody vomit, she said that my body was overreacting to the bacteria. My second time, I was discharged from the hospital within 5 minutes with the note to take some antihistamines which I was already taking. The manager of business incorrectly told me that physicians assistants have MDs on the phone (this is recorded). This blatant lie was told to force me to pay for a 5 minute visit during which a real doctor (one with an MD) never saw me, no samples were taken and no treatment was given. The receptionist was on her phone the entire time I was checking in. Did not help with my paperwork but was having a heated text conversation.I understand that Ithaca does not have many options for healthcare. This does not mean that Cayuga medical center can exploit the sick for their financial gain with questionable medical treatment and lack of professionalism.
