I ended up at Fofanas because someone that was supposed to do my hair earlier in the day bailed last minute. I called them around 12 and they told me if I came in the next 10 minutes someone would be available to do my hair. I showed up and quickly discussed with them what I wanted done and they told me the price for the length of the box braids would be $130. Being that I was going to pay the person earlier the same price it worked out for me. I had two people working on my head and I was out of their shop in 3 hours. The braiding was fine for me, I didnt feel it was too tight but of course Im a stickler about my edges like everyone else. Not to offend African women (and I could be totally wrong), but it appears that they dont really care about edges like how African American women do. You tell them not to braid up your edges and its almost like they dont even know what edges are because they braid them up anyway. When they finally finished they raised the price by $10 for some bogus reason (I believe she told me I had run out of hair and they had to start using their own hair packs, I brought 6 packs of hair with me and I have a very small head so I dont know how that happened.) Overall the fact that I was in and out quick was a plus given the situation earlier in the day and I had somewhere to be that night. As far as the price thing I feel like that happens when you go to any African braiding shop so thats not something you can really avoid. At the end of the day, my experience there was not that bad and I would go back.

Called the day before to make an appointment for 10am the next day. Arrived at 10 am and asked how much my hair would be. I was told $160( I guess because my hair is thick, which I understand). They didnt start my hair until about 11am because they were too busy talking about my hair in their native tongue and trying to convince me to get box braids after I stated several times I wanted Senegalese twists. They do not take much care when doing your hair. They pull and tug on the hair as if it wont come out of your scalp. When the one lady was twisting the ends of the hair near my edges, I felt a few strands being ripped out because she was being rough. During this time, a random man walked into the building and started pleasuring himself in the hallway!! After being there almost 6 hours, I was finally done and the owner tells me next time I HAVE to get box braids. I got ready to pay and they said because they had to use an extra pack of hair the price was $165. I paid and left. Needless to say I will stick to my lady EVA on Osbourne Terrace in Newark. Id rather pay $130, spend the same amount of time at her shop, feel safe, not be pressured, and have my hair done right than come here again. I will never give them my business again or refer anyone to them.

Im so pissed and will never go back here again! I asked for a clear size and they were doing great when started but once they got to the front they got lazy and gave me big braids that I cant manage or fit my face! Theyre like so big, and not the extra big thats cute but between Ned and big which s awkward looking. Im so mad man! They smile in your face then do whatever they want to your hair. Not to mention that my hair should have been braided small enough to cover my short curly hair thats a diff color than the weave I chose. I went to 3 other places before for the same style and it came out great. I travel a lot so its usually always a different place. So pissed! Crazy thing is when I went in there 2 girl was fighting with them because of how her hair came out and another was getting her hair done and it looked a Hot ass mess! Keep your money and do not go there! Wanted to keep my hair in for at least a month but this wont last 3 wks! WASTE!

I went to Fofana to get short box braids. Everything went well, except I didnt like the burning of the braids. I made sure I respectfully expressed how I felt. Fofana herself, insisted that I sit down so they can fix it immediately. She made sure that I left a satisfied customer. I have been going there for years and Wouldnt recommend any other braiding shop.

I went there today (09.23.17) to get a Marley twists in a bob. I showed them several pictures and kept talking to them to remind them of what I wanted. After they were done it still did not look like what I asked for. This is my second disappointment when going there. They are horrible at listening and dont listen to the employee that put in a review saying it has something to do with texture of hair. THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS!!! I wanted to get a French braid done so I called the morning before to make an appointment. They told me the lady that does it wasnt in but she will be in the shop at 9am the next day and that is when I should come. I was told that she was the ONLY one who can give me one single braid. In the afternoon I called the shop AGAIN to confirm my appointment and to make sure the person doing my hair was aware of what I wanted...everything was a yes. Now I got to the shop for 9am and they were opened. When I got there there was only one other customer waiting for her stylist. 10am and my stylist was still not there. They kept reassuring me she is on her way. 11am she finally strolls in and when they tell her Im waiting and what I need done she turns to me and tell me she cannot do one braid. They started speaking in their language and laughing. I made sure I confirmed what they told me infront of her and they all yes. After sitting there I got up and left. The stylist ran out after me and told me she can do it but it is not going to be the length I want. I politely refused and left their salon. I was sooooooo angry and shocked but I went across the street and found someone else off the map who did just what I wanted. Also while sitting there I heard plenty customers complaining about them flip flopping their prices. Never again!!!

I love this place because we are professional and we learn about hair, give you consultation and work with . I understand some customers can have an issue but our goal is to treat everyone with fair and respect and make sure that you walk out of there looking like a queen . Unfortunately some time it is very challenging because of hair texture and lenght we need to raise certain price but longer its dont before the service I think it is apropriate. I went there on 6 / 30 / 17 to get a mohawk style weave. She quoted me a price of $80 and then when I got in the chair, she then called me $100. She quickly changed her tune when I got up and grab my bag to leave. I showed her kinda what I wanted based on a book that she has. The only difference was, I wanted 4-5 thick braids on both sides of my head, and I didnt want her tcontrol my edges at all. I also explain to her how thick I wanted the middle Mohawk to be. Firstly, shes sold 10 10 cornrow braids versus the four I want it on the sides of my head She sewed up only one side and that was it. I then had to fuss with her and say that is not a mohawk. The other side has to be sewn up as well. She reluctantly sewed up the other side, but overall I just was not happy. It wasnt shaped well. I usually go to Lady B or Flokay, but I wanted to try someone new . She was recommended to me Γ·- her rating was a 3.9. I felt like I was being punished for cheating on lady b and Flokay, plus it was hot. I didnt tip her, nor will I be back. I gotta use a dozen hairpins to achieve the look that Im supposed to have. I dont think that she couldnt do my hair right, I just think that she wanted to charge me a full $100 to do it right, and I was not going to pay that. Theres another braiding salon about 5 doors down from her that was going to charge me $80 as well.
