I had a positive experience with Dr Natvig. The medication he prescribed has been very helpful and I found it useful to talk to him about my progress and treatment.

I actually had a very positive experience with Dr. Natvig while attending the University of Iowa in undergrad as a pre-med student. He had more insight into my problems than any other physician/psychiatrist, and treated me professionally and treated my condition systematically. After medical school and practice experience alongside many other psychiatrists, I now realize how good he actually was. Yes, sometimes he tells you what you dont want to hear. But he tells you his honest opinion based on experience, life, and a solid background in psychiatry. If you go into there with the attitude that you know more than he is and you just want xyz medication, you might not like him or get the results you are hoping for. He does not put on a facade and he does speak his opinion, but he is an intelligent professional with a lotttttt of experience in his field so stay humble and listen to the man. He will respect you and your time if you respect him and his time. His appointment slots are scheduled by a secretary so if you have multiple concerns you might have to make multiple visits, but he takes his time and does it right and he follows up with you according to the standard protocol, and he does so for a reason. Id recommend him to anyone I know, just let him listen and do his job, give the appropriate diagnosemebt and assessment, and try to follow through with his recommendations becore you write him off in some arrogant review. My experience was completely different than the 2 reviewers before me, but Im not surprised based on how naive and arrogant college students are these days.

Honestly one of the worst experiences that I have ever had with a doctor. I found that he was manipulative, condescending, and not very good at listening to me. I provided actual documentation confirming my ADHD diagnosis and he chose to ignore it (since he presumes himself to be smarter) and pushed an anti-anxiety medication on me (for the second time). After expressing that I struggle with anxiety but would prefer not to be on zoloft, the man stoop up, held the door open, and made it loud and clear that I can go to a different doctor because he wasnt going to waste anymore of my time. If I could rate zero stars..I would. Thanks for the help!

** This doctor should be reviewed by the medical board for negligence and malpractice.I hated seeing Dr. Natvig when I went to him through the University of Iowa about two years ago. He doesnt listen to his patients and is more concerned with making bad jokes and doing all the talking than being a helpful and professional doctor. Then two days ago, I found out from one of my friends that sees him through the university that he advised her to stop taking her antidepressants pretty much cold turkey-- she ended up in the mental health unit of the nearest hospital for extreme depression and suicidal thoughts about three weeks later. What qualified doctor tells a patient to go off their medication within two days? Thats a recipe for having a breakdown. I have no medical training, but even I know youre supposed to slowly go off antidepressants to avoid any serious/rapid downfalls into worse depression and suicidal thoughts. His malpractice couldve cost my friend her life.
