A friend referred me to NAPA and Im so glad she did. I was placed with Heidi and she is wonderful. Very caring and empathetic and it feels so nice to have someone listen to you and genuinely want to help. The office staff are also very kind.

Setting up my first appointment was a nightmare! You’re lucky to get in touch with anyone working in the office area as well as I had to call them to even ask if I still had an appointment because I didn’t get any confirmation as well as co-pay prices. The lady I saw told me I couldn’t receive counseling because they were all full and she didn’t want to counsel me which that’s fine, but the entire conversation she was very pushy for medicines I wasn’t comfortable taking and talked down to me a lot. The conversation was very dry and it was just over all an unpleasant experience. Highly recommend ANYONE else

I have had a terrible experience. It took me two months to set up my first appointment just because it’s impossible to get in touch with the front desk. I had to get a hand written referral from my doctor to give to them and inside they said this was fine then they called me before I even left the parking lot to say they can’t accept it? Then I informed them my doctor had sent them a referral electronically like two months ago and she said she would try to find it and call back and confirm the appointment. I got no confirmation call as well as no update on my co-pay as well as I was under the impression I would be able to receive counseling. I waited until closer to my appointment time and called three days and advance and left a message with no response, and I called the following days leading up to my appointment and I had to call every 30mins for 8 hours to finally get someone and got confirmation. Upon going to the appointment it was the biggest disappointment I was under the impression I would receive counseling, to which they only informed me after I paid my co-pay and already gave them some of the information about my mental health that they aren’t accepting anyone into counseling at the moment and I saw Lora and she pushed for pills that I wasn’t comfortable with taking and when I refused them because of negative side effects in the past it felt belittling to hear her say “all medicine has some side effects.” She was willing to give me medicine same day I came in despite not being informed of all my health conditions or allergies. I was just over all uncomfortable, belittling and it felt like a big waste of my time. give 0 stars if I could. Please go somewhere else if you’re in need.

Just like mostly everyone has mentioned, the office staff is almost impossible to get a hold of. I’ve had to call serval times a day for serval days just for them to pick up.I honestly had a quite unpleasant experience almost every time I went in. Lora created some pretty unfair, unjustified, and hurtful beliefs about me after only seeing me one time. She is not compassionate in the least and is very dismissive. I understand that she sees many patients, but she didn’t seem to bother remembering details I tell her in previous visits. It got to the point where I stopped going and luckily was able to find a MUCH better psychiatrist.I do not recommend this office in the least.

I had an appointment with them And I realize before the appointment that I was Not going to be able to make it as I had been held up at work so I attempted to call them and change My appointment to an over the phone appointment which I could do at the appointed time I tried to call them every 5 Minutes for 30 minutes until after my appointment had went through and then I was charged a $75 no-show fee. They were however very understanding and allow you to pay the no-show fee over Overtime along with your other visits

The entire process from the referral, to the scheduling, to the first appointment was a disaster. I highly recommend finding help somewhere else. If you are in true need, and need someone to listen to you, this is not the place. They do not return calls, respond to emails, or provide information regarding paperwork that youre required to fill out. The personnel I encountered spent more time trying to sell me products and tests that actually talk about the reason I was there. I will never return to this practice. In all fairness will mention, I never met the actual doctor, so they may be a great doctor, but the gauntlet of incompetence that I had to go through to even get to my first appointment does not set a good tone.

Im a patient of Dr. Penlands and have been for a long time. His office manager, Pam Sherrod, is totally useless in that capacity. The office is the worst managed and staffed of any I have ever seen. And Ive seen plenty of doctor offices.

Pam the manager is unprofessional and short tempered. I would have the doctor look seriously into her effectiveness as a staff member. Staff don’t answer the phone, and Pam called me back after I requested some clarity on my upcoming appointment. She spoke over me, was rude, and then released me as a patient. I have made a Medical Board Complaint that I am sure they will get shortly, and could have been avoided by her disgusting behavior.

So to start with, I want to say that in the end, I did get what I asked for. We found the right meds for me, and my life is better as a result. So I have to give them some credit with a 3/5. As for other things... they have room for improvement.Trying to call this place is pretty impossible, and they dont respond much via email either. Getting in contact with them besides visiting is very difficult.Once youre in the office, the process feels very disorganized. Theyll tell you to go to different windows to talk to them, and you have to fill out forms to check in and stuff, but the desk personnel will be very unclear about exactly what the next step is, or what they are doing while helping you out. Same way with checking out. Something about the process just feels... unprofessional. My provider is Lora. Let me preface this by saying that she did end up helping me and finding the right meds relatively quickly. She did what she was supposed to do. But... she was not what I expected.Every doctor, no matter their specialty, falls somewhere on the axis of nerdy and socially awkward at one end and super empathetic and nice at the other. The best doctors are very close to the exactly middle, maybe a tiny bit closer to the socially adept side. For the guy operating the brain scanner, hes probably at the super nerdy end, and of all kinds of doctors, you would expect psychiatrists to be closest to the complete other end of the scale, right?Lora is... not that. She is the nerdiest doctor I have ever had in my life. I mean, Im super nerdy too, so I get it, its just... not what I expected. Dont expect a lot of empathy or deep conversations trying to get to the roots of a particular symptom. Expect a lot of her speaking out loud about medical stuff you dont understand. Again, nothing really wrong with any of this since she did her job for me, but I just need to set your expectations.Overall, I would say in general they will get the job done here. But dont really expect much more than that. If things like service, professionalism, etc. matter a lot to you, I wouldnt recommend this place. You might find the ideal doctor for you somewhere else. I go here because it was recommended by my counselor and my counselor is really, really good, so I trust her judgement.

Really wanted to make an appointment but for some reason the office does not answer the phone. I’ve called probably 20 times and I get the automated, “we are not able to answer the phone right now,” every time. Imagine not being able to get ahold of your own doctor.

I currently work at NAPA as the Clinical Office Manager. I thank God I had a choice to work with Dr. Penland again to help people in the Huntsville area! During the last few years NAPA has grown and I must say we have some AWESOME providers. Our CRNP and all my therapist go above and beyond to help our patients just as Dr. P. This makes my job so easy as the office manager. I love what I do and where I work. Definitely a 5 star outpatient clinic!

I have been using Pam for over 2 years and followed her from the previous location she was practicing at. Pam has been a God send to me and always available, even between my scheduled appointments. The office staff has always been very friendly & accommodating to any need I’ve had. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND all of these practitioners. I drive from Decatur and I would drive further if need be to have the quality of professional care that I receive at NAPA.

I had to wait over a month for an appointment. I got a text message 24 hours before my appointment to remind when my appointment was and at the end of the text it said DO NOT REPLY. On the day of my appointment, I went to the office and found out they had canceled my appointment without telling me. They said they had been calling me to confirm my appointment but their number came up on my caller ID as coming from Childersburg AL so I didn’t answer. Because I didn’t pick up the phone they canceled my appointment, yet still sent me a text telling me my appointment was still scheduled. I did not reschedule because I wasn’t going to wait another month to get in for an appointment. I went across the street to Psychological Counseling Associates and got an appointment for the following Monday.

I have been a patient of Dr Pendland for years and I can honestly say he is 5 star+. I never feel rushed and always know if he is running behind its because the patient sitting in the chair is his top priority. And I personally feel thats the way it should be. There are way too many doctors that will rush a patient in and out in order to stay on their time schedule. Dr. Pendland is not one of those doctors. When you are in his office you are his top priority. Pam the office manager is also a 5star +person. She will treat you the exact same and will give you her undivided attention as well.

Good Drs. Good therapist but as far as the billing and the office goes they really need some help. They have no idea whats going on, between two up front trying to figure out what and why I have been billed to making up crazy excuses why I couldnt see my therapist without a referral? When I have been going there for almost a year WITH REFERRALS . Then they tried to tell me I was 120 days late on payment which had already been taken care of. Safe to say we walked out today and wont ever be back. Im not sure what ever happened to Erin that worked in the office but they need to hire her back bc they are in desperate need of ppl who have knowledge of running an office/ billing department

I saw Dr Pennland many years ago at the facility that closed on Lanier Rd. He really went a few extra miles to get me in as a patient by literally fighting for me at his board meeting. He stuck in my mind ever since. All the wonderful things said about him pertaining to his patient etiquette, kindness and caring demeanour are true. You see Drs much older who have this type of work ethic not young Drs. They are different and in it fir all tbe wrong reasons. Dr. Pennland will be very successful in his career. God bless him. And thank you!
