Great place! Safe, secure. Offers you the resources you need. 3 hot meals a day. Yes you have to go through spiritual classes but they’re not bad and really a good start to a new journey. Don’t let me forget to mention the beautiful campus! It’s really the best homeless shelter in Houston.

If you are not an alcoholic or have a drug addiction, I suggest not coming here for emergency shelter, this place is only designed for people who can’t budget their money and became homeless, They will put you out on the streets for not giving them your child tax credit money, what kind of people would do that, that is not of God at all , But they push God on you like, they really living Godly. Yeah right, But the true living God I service sees all what they are doing.

It looks and seems like an excellent program geared to help people get back on their feet. I dropped a lady off who was in need of shelter, food, and resources for work. Unfortunately, due to her experience in domestic violence, they would not take her in. They said Star of Hope is an organization for homeless people, not an organization for the homeless people who have been domestically abused and trafficked. Its really unfortunate.

I have never heard of an emergency homeless shelter having “Bankers Hours”. People are not only displaced during the hours of 8am to 4pm, Monday - Friday. This organization literally shows what is wrong with social services as a whole in the Houston area. The people who are in these positions and who run these organizations are only in it for the money. This is why so many people are so against donating to nonprofits because they clearly aren’t using the funds for the people that need it. They lack compassion for the individuals they serve. My client and I weren’t even allowed to wait in the “visitors center” or even on the property while we were finding another place for my client to stay. All they were worried about was clocking out and going home. Must be nice to have a place to go to everyday before the 8am and after 4pm to bad my client can’t relate. Very disappointing.

If you get put into a position where this is your last and only option, they’re giving you a place to stay and meals, why complain or have a problem with how they’re running their program.. I was there in 2017.. believe I stayed for 4 months.. got housing within a month and a half of me being there, it took a lil while for me to find a place (I wasn’t trying hard enough) but this place was fine for me.. I got into college, they help with supplies.. they help you if you want to help yourself.. you can’t act entitled in a shelter, they have programs you have to follow, you won’t sit there all day doing nothing for free.. you shouldn’t even feel comfortable wanting to do that.. this new building has a bus stop on the property, they give you bus passes, they help! If you want the help, GO GET IT, but you have to put in your effort also, just sitting around expecting things to just be handed to you then complaining.. won’t happen like thatUpdate:: I went there again April I believe, for about 2 weeks. I had to leave. You couldn’t do anything.. when you first get there they make you and children quarantine.. can’t leave your room except a few times. 2 smoke breaks (I don’t smoke) and a 1 hr recreation like you’re in prison.. I felt bad for my children. I cried with them.. once off quarantine we still couldn’t do anything but be in your room or sit outside.. couldn’t leave the property, if you wanted to check on your vehicle you had to be escorted by your caseworker.. it was pretty depressing.

This is a great place to get your life on track. You can stay up to a year if you follow the rules which all things considered are reasonable. The only reason I dont give 5 stars is SOME not all but some of the staff are incredibly rude for no reason and if you talk back or smart off to them they put you out. Thats my only complaint. Most everyone is pretty nice though.

This is a shelter that I can say has no type of understanding for their residents. They kind of treat residents like inmates in a halfway house. Most of the staff have bad attitudes as well as no type of compassion for the residents. I can say Ms. Monica. Mr. Joe (who retired) the groundskeeper and a couple of more staff was very helpful and understanding to the residents. The case manager I had was Mrs. Faliesha Babers she should not even be working at the center, she should be at a halfway house or at the Parole Division. Her attitude towards her clients is ridiculously cruel and sad. She has no sympathy she half help the clients she have. Shes more focused on getting handicapped and disabled a job knowing they can not work. She doesnt care if you have the proper documents, its her way and have the audacity to preach on Fridays. The teachers were awesome and more understanding than the case managers. About the donations, they let the staff get whatever they want before they give it out to the residents of the center. They talk about religion but more focus on receiving money from the residents.

It’s cleanYour basically in a clean jail where you are able to have your phone/electronics, other than that your basically an inmate walking around without being shackled.I thought I was the only one who felt that way until I spoke with other and read some other experiences.I have a few days until I can get out here and I’m literally counting down the time .

They need to raise the shelter in place, I can’t even go see my own family. I feel as if they are using this to just have control over what we can and cannot do.

Great place to get more than basic services. Like, medical check-ups, eye glasses, GED studies, rehab, food, shelter, housing assistance, lawyer consultations, child care, and more. However, this place is heavy on Christian propaganda and will FORCE you to sit through 20 hours of classes filled with ageist, sexist, racist, and homophobic rhetoric.

I think its sad that I always heard that shelters are suppose to help you,but it disappoint me that Star of Hope is just the opposite! This is a new building and of the 10 ppl that was at Star of Hope 2 was put out for excessive write ups and 1 was an elder lady that works now she live in her car,2 that are there works alot and they give them grief about missing all of their classes! They gave to be in at a certain time and they dont assist in getting them on section 8 housing. Alot of the ppl feel like they are prisoners and that horrible!
