Updated review….A few months ago I adopted a cat from here but sadly I had to bring him back because my apartment wasn’t suitable for him. When I returned him the worker was not pleasant whatsoever. She was aloof and a bit rude if you ask me. She seemed annoyed I was bringing him back (for his safety). I just ignored her unpleasant attitude and went on with my day.I came back A month or two later and I adopted a 2 month old kitten. Well, Just a few days of having him, his eyes were having green/yellowish discharge. I tried calling the shelter but for some strange reason EVERY TIME (and I mean EVERY TIME) I called up there my call were being forwarded to a voicemail system. I thought something was off so I had two different people call there and their calls were answered. THESE PEOPLE WERE IGNORING MY CALLS 🥴🥴 pretty childish if you ask me.Well I drove up there and the clinic side was closed so I left my information with a worker on the adoption side and nobody called me back. At this point the poor kitty eyes didn’t open. I ended up having to take him to an emergency pet hospital and paid $800 to be told he had an infection and he needed antibiotics and eye drops..Well fast forward.. I was also noticing the cat scratching excessively near his face and back of his ears. I looked in his ears and they were FILTHY. After another vet visit, the Poor kitty had ear mites!!!!! That was another $200 just dumped down the drain.Be aware of getting a cat with issues and them ghosting you. Also, if you change your mind about adopting, and decide to bring the animal back, just be aware of them trying to make you feel bad.The kitten is doing just fine now. But it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s underlying issues with him. I seriously hope not. Also… the clinic hours are not the same as the adoption center hours. Expect to wait over an hour at the clinic as well. It’s ridiculously unorganized over there.

Paws matter and let me tell you the experience was great. We adopted a great addition to our family formally known as Connie now Goldie. We did a meet and greet with our girl Abby. The staff member named Amber was great help and she definitely did a great match. The process does take some time due to short staffed, so have patience well worth it. They keep the facility organized and clean. They even accommodate people with disabilities. Thank you for a lifetime of memories and companionship.

The Humane Society used to be a great place. Now, the workers couldnt care less about helping animals and their owners. They have a terrible attitude and if you need something, they are always too busy, no exceptions, and their attitude is, oh well. Very unprofessional. Wow, this facility is amazing! The staff are super helpful and the dogs and cats are really well cared for. They even trim their nails! You would expect a overly crowded, moody and heavily smelly facility but its not the case. Its very bright and welcoming. The care and work put for the animals and the facility is there and it shows.Theres constant adoptions here so when you spot possible lifetime candidates make sure to bring in paperwork and go fast. We missed our first 2 choices but got lucky on our third by just minutes and hes a superstar. I still cant believe it.They also have a clinic next door.Once we brought ours to his new home he started to show his true form with happy zoomies as a typical husky would. To calm him down I got him some chewing toys and canes. It definitely worked after awhile. Well need to patiently wait some days before we can start walking him, training him and also go swimming together since he had neutering surgery.Cant wait! 💙

So my family and I went in to look at a specific poodle today. We went through the application, had our meet and greet and were ready to begin the adoption process when the front receptionist denied us. Her reasoning is that our current dog (husky) at home is on heartworm medication and adding another dog to the mix will just add more stress to the husky’s heart issue. We explained to her that the Veterinarian office stated adding another member to the family (a dog) won’t affect the medication our husky is currently on. They also mentioned that the shelters usually contact the vets if they have questions on the medication. Although just seeing that medication listed is usually enough for most shelters, per the vet. Her response was “well other shelters have different rules” and denied us either way. This is what confuses me, a receptionist at this office is essentially saying she knows more than a veterinarian. After looking at the other reviews I feel that this shelter picks and chooses what families get approved for adoption. We drove over an hour to see the poodle and spent another hour going through the process only to just be denied. Extremely disappointing

I waited to be contacted for an appointment and no one called. I had made a request because my dog was having breathing distress. I had taken her to another vet that was way too expensive. Once at the HHS there was no one there and no cars in the parking lot. Brought my dog in having severe breathing issues and congestion. Was told they couldnt see her due to not having an appointment. This may be the rule but if hospitals operated like this there would be a lot of dead people. I was told I could go to another vet but that the vet was expensive. Well Sir that is why I was bringing her to HHS due to vets being expensive. Thanks for showing me there is nothing Humane about the wellness center. If this is how you operate I will think otherwise when donating to the center.

A great place to adopt cats & dogs. Cat adoption is only $50, including spay/neuter. The adoption center is like a kindergarten, with cats and small dogs in separate rooms in the hall, like hotel rooms. It will be my first choice if I want to adopt cats/ dogs.

My family and I visited this place to look at dogs, we have been here many times because the volunteer staff has always been so warm and welcoming. So after finding a dog that we liked, we were told by volunteers that we could go to the front desk to place the dog on a 24 hour hold to make a decision. So we go to the front desk to place the dog on hold but were told by the (supposed) manager Brianna, that we were unable to, despite being told otherwise by the staff working in the back with the dogs. When we told the manager Brianna that we had been told otherwise, she backtracked on her initial statement and said that if we had perhaps had a family member to list we could still place the dog on hold that way. We did have a family member to list, which was my grandmother who lived with us, but when we told her about this she retracted her statement and said that we couldnt place the dog on hold at all anymore. In addition to the backtracked statements, Briannas overall demeanor was apathetic, you could tell that she didnt want to help us or anyone for that matter. The vibe that I got was that she didnt really want to be there. I recall us being the arriving before opening time, and when she opened the doors we werent greeted or anything, instead she monotonously moped around the facility. My family and I were surprised to learn that someone like this was in a management position as a real manager would have been more professional in handling a situation like this. Instead I had to ask for Briannas superiors, Adrianna Martinez and Richard Perezs contact information, which she could only provide emails for. There is clearly a lack of consistency, communication, and overall drive going on at the Humane Society, and its unfortunate that the visitors have to endure it. If youre looking for a dog, there are more respectable and accommodating facilities out there. I recommend the Houston SPCA instead, which is where I adopted my two lovely dogs.

I adopted the sweetest kitty ever from here, but I had a terrible experience after the fact. My cat had her side shaved and I was told that they were not sure why it was shaved but they knew it wouldnt be a recurring problem, but later found out she has had a mammary tumor for a while (and still has it). This was not told to me and I had to find out after the adoption. I was not given all of her records and had to call literally 12 times over the span of 3 days before someone picked up the phone and emailed the rest of her paperwork to me, which stated clearly that she had several issues that may cost me a lot of money. I fell in love with my cat and am not returning her, but I am very upset that this was not brought to my attention. The tumor was very close to reaching her lungs and it would have been a disaster had I not pushed for some cooperation on the end of this shelter.

Just adopted our second dog yesterday from HHS. Both times were wonderful experiences. Our first GSD had heart worms and the on-site clinic did a excellent job treating her the whole way to full recovery. She was 51 lbs when we got her. She is now a very healthy 83 lbs girl and a HUGE lover. She is happy with her second chance in a loving home. Our GSD we adopted yesterday is definitely under weight but soon will be a healthy 90+ lbs happy boy. Sometimes the clinic can be very busy and wait can be long, just be remember you are not the only one there and the staff is doing the best they can. I’ve never had an issue with their clinic. To anyone reading this who is thinking about adopting. Please do your research on the dogs breed and make sure the breed is a good fit for you and your family. The sweet boy we adopted yesterday was returned after 3 weeks of being adopted the first time. I’m a dog trainer and sheltered dogs are some of the best dogs you can have. They know they are being given a second chance at life and love and bond easily with the care and love they are wanting. Please adopt to prevent backyard and puppy mill breeders. Thanks HHS on the wonderful job you do for these animals. God bless y’all.

We originally liked a dog who was heartworm positive. Most of the staff advised us that it would not be a good fit since we had smaller kids who would want to play right away and the dog would require extensive care for a few months. My family agreed that he would not be a good fit and decided on a puppy. We adopted a beautiful golden lab pup that we fell in love with.Took him home and five days later he was dead. Apparently our dog was Housed with another litter that tested positive for parvovirus at the Humane society. The families who adopted those dogs had the same outcome. The humane society was good at giving us a refund and a few treatments but the entire ordeal left us devastated. My son held the puppy until he took his final breath. When we took our puppy back in for the 72hr wellness check, the vet Dr. Malone was not very interested in treating the dog. He left me in a waiting room while he supposedly inquire on what accommodations can be made for our puppy. After sitting for almost 20 minutes, he never came back. The cleaning crew had arrived to clean up and Mr. Malone Along with the front desk staff were goneThe cleaning crew had to call one of the staff from the back to come and talk to us.We made several attempts to save the pup. Even leaving work early to drive to the vet for treatment. There should be better screening and lab test for all dogs especially if they are going to be housed with other dogs. We were then told we could not adopt for 3 months because parvovirus will contaminate your home and yard. So, we can adopt another dog and have to have our kids wait for a new pet. We purchased so many items and basically had to toss everything out and literally deep clean our entire home in preparation for another dog. This was a horrible horrible experience emotionally and very frustrating. There is a lack of quality control and that needs to be addressed.
