It was Sunday 6-27-21 when our one and half year old cat busted her stitches from being spayed. The staff was very kind and helpful when I called about her around 8pm.After getting cat into the carrier and the drive. We arrived at around 9pm. The staff were quick to exam our cat, make an assessment and give us her options. We chose to try whatever needed to be done to give her a chance. We were fully aware of all possibilities and costs up front. Yes, at first the amount it may seem pricey. But for the care, concern the veterinarian and staff gave. It would have been 5x the price for a human with insurance. But, my wife and I are most thankful for care given to our cat. All focus was on her survival and comfort. Unfortunately, between fluid loss and anesthesia she did not make it. But I am quite confident all was done that could be done. Even in death she was treated with great care and empathy. I am glad they were there and highly recommend.

Never spoke to an actual veterinarian. Their only concern was getting my money and not answering my questions about a sick dog. Reception was clearly new, or stoned. We quickly removed our dog from their care when it was apparent they were only after the money and little to no compassion. They stated one ridiculous price for pretty much nothing but an exam and some meds, but they overcharged me significantly and refuse to explain the charges. Garbage clinic. Go elsewhere.

This vet needs shut DOWN! I’m reporting them to the state vet board for performing a c-section on a Great Dane, almost killing all the puppies by not rendering proper care to the newborns (no heat, no suction) just letting them lay on the floor lifeless!! Then almost killed momma!!! BUT to top it off more…. This Dam then went on days later to delivery a rotten puppy!!! Days later after her c-section performed here!!!! How do you miss a whole puppy while performing a c-section? Did you even clean and flush momma out?

My dog was very sick and the Dr. was able to rule out blockage and proceed with medical care. Was able to pick my dog up after 24 hours of observation. Sent home medicine and food for my dog to continue to get better. Im thankful they were available to have my dog examined when needed after normal business hours! The staff and Dr was very nice and made sure I understood everything that happened and what needed to be done once home. Again thank you for your care of my dog!

I’m deeply thankful for these guys—they likely saved my dog’s life. I returned from a weeklong trip and after we got home from the boarder’s discovered my dog had the most severe ear infection I’ve ever seen—and he’s a lab. I rushed to the emergency vet so fast I forgot my wallet. They let my partner text them a photo of my ID and got to work (while also dealing with 3 other pets including one that had gotten hit by a car). One week later, he’s recovered. It was expensive but not much more than a previous infection. Obviously worth it. One thing that really helped was how even-keel and communicative the tech and doctor were. I’m so grateful!

This is a place to avoid at all costs. My cat had to be put to sleep after going through what they did him. They take advantage of those that are vulnerable and desperate in need of emergency care. They lied about him getting better by purposefully omitting information to try and steal more money from me. My cat goes from being slow from old age, but still happy and playful, to 1 day later gasping for air and in such agony that he needed to be put down. The doctor has had his license suspended and been on probation multiple times, even losing a lawsuit regarding not disclosing fees.

I took my cat to this place and I have to agree with the other one star reviews. The vet was not friendly (to me or my cat) and didn’t even bother to know if my cat was a male/female. He would come in and run tests on my cat in front of me without saying a word or explaining the purpose of the test. $400+ later I still took my cat to my vet the next day who did not run any of the tests he did and gave me totally different medicine to treat him. Not to mention I noticed the emergency vet did not sanitize any of the tools he used after he was done using them on my cat. Did I mention they ask for your SSN on the registration form? Shady! When i asked why they needed that information they said I didn’t have to fill that in. Uhm yea I wasn’t going to anyway. But I wonder how many others blindly fill it out and what they do with that info? DO NOT GO HERE. Total rip off-don’t even give the proper treatment plan and just overall rude. Not sure why he became a vet-he doesn’t seem to like animals at all.

Lets clarify something first, Miss Addison isnt just a dog!! If she was just a dog, she wouldnt have gotten the treatment she did receive. Granted we picked the wrong emergency vet, your reviews speak for themselves. Secondly if Addison was just a dog, we wouldve left her and her puppies in your care to DIE. 3rd we never step foot in the back not even when we watched one of the puppies almost fall from a table that your tech walked off from, leaving wiggling puppies unattended.. I about had a heart attack I offered the young girl a hand which she declined. We were finally invited back to see the nightmare you had created. Addison bleeding from her surgical area and puppies about frozen to death on a cold floor. 4th we didnt remove Addison at this point, if you remember correctly We had to leave to go get rice bags and blankets to warm puppies up with.. 5th when we returned nothing had changed and puppies were so cold they were stiff. Did we panic ? absolutely ..Lastly if your gonna tell it, tell it right! we picked Miss Addison up she was never dragged and She was carefully carried to the car out the backdoor with your tech. Even that man agreed she needed better care & he works beside you.. LETS NOT FORGET THE LIFE YOU LEFT INSIDE HER TO ROT. Im sure its just a puppy for you but that was a life you stole from Miss Addison. She did receive amazing vet care but not from this poorly run facility. Yes we did turn you in to the board you left a puppy inside her!!! In all my years Ive never seen such poor vet care. HOW DO YOU MISS A GREAT DANE PUPPY? You have yet to even acknowledge the life you let DIE our complaint is on point and you not acknowledging the mistakes you made in your response says it all. YOU MADE A MISTAKE, OWN IT!!! You never once called to check on her. we called you and you wouldnt even acknowledge that she was even seen by you.PUPPIES were hospitalized along with Addison..Puppies had fluid in lungs very cold & stiff.. puppies improved after receiving excellent vet care at another vet.. Addison however had to deliver a rotten dead pup 3 days later.. which caused her an infection & couldve killed her. Once again If she was just a dog why is she alive and healthy ? Ill tell you why because she is Miss Addison she is apart of this family.. We will make sure she gets what she needs, unfortunately we failed her when we picked you. But nevertheless, shes still with us happy & healthy.. We are grateful to the other 2 vets that worked together to clean up your mess.No need to reply to this review!! We can disagree all day long but you know you made the mistake, not us. We did right by Miss Addison by removing her from your morgue.

Unless your visit is a proactive one ( and I’m not so sure about that even), the staff is lethargic, void of empathy or care for your animals pain, and much more concerned with the administrative process of copying your ID, capturing your SSN, and processing the appetizer of the initial fee...after all, the money is what they are truly passionate about, not the state of being for your pet. I suspect they prey on new customers and are void of repeat customers. Poor choice even as a last result. One star is generous.

I had an excellent experience with this veterinarian. He is sharp and very professional. I brought my dog in for an emergency visit because he had unexpected swelling after strenuous exercise related to Lyme Disease. Within an hour we where out with pain meds and Lyme Disease Treatment. I was impressed with his bedside manner and his aggressive treatment of Lyme Disease so I do lose my dog—Pasha which would be catastrophic. I have Healthy Paws Pet Insurance to cover the $1k bill incurred but it was worth it for the news and diagnosis that was missed by routine visits at the excellent Ashby Animal. After receiving sound advice from this doctor I am choosing this emergency care center for my 1 month and 6 month follow up visits since this doctor gave me hope on treating Pasha’s Lyme. This doctor is top notch and offers value and compassionate service to our community willing to operate after hours.

A few months ago I took my 1 year old cat in for an infection in her paw. They treated her for the infection and she came home the next day. About 3 days after that I had to bring her back in because her paw started to smell horrendous. It turns out they didn’t take all of the infection out of her paw which led to a full leg amputation. After the full leg amputation and $1200 later, they sent me home with her leg after I had already paid for consumables and disposables. Then, the next weekend I had to go back to get MORE antibiotics to fight the infection I paid to get rid of. I have spoken to multiple vet offices since then and they all agreed that the incision they gave her was double the size it should have been. All around this is a terrible place and I wish I had seen the reviews before bringing her.

I hadnt read the reviews before going here, but a lot of them sound exactly like my experience - charging more than was quoted (I was charged double what they quoted me - $700 total) and saying that your pet could die if you dont consent to all of the tests and procedures. Ive never written a review like this but I really want to warn others against going here. Please dont take your pet here unless you have no other option.

I would recommend taking your pet to Verona instead of this place. I came in with my 15 year old dog who had just collapsed and received very poor care. I feel the vet was rough with my dog and was more concerned about money. I stated my dogs previous history and what I already knew were underlying issues but I felt the vet was not listening. My dog had seizure like symptoms and the vet did not offer to do any blood work or physical examination first, just straight to the X-ray. Once discovered I could not afford the X-ray I felt the vet was unwilling to answer any questions I had in regards to monitoring my dog.

As soon as you walk in you can sense the lack of professionalism. When Dr. Salem, I believe hes the owner, walked in and checked my pet it was all good. I had walked in there already knowing that my cat might be blocked but of course it needed to be confirmed and treatment. So Dr. Salem gives me a plan and an estimate and on the estimate I see all these Miscellaneous stuff he was charging for so I started questioning what each thing on there was. This was $1000 estimate bill by the way. Since it was just an estimate I signed because I did plan to pay it once my cat had received everything it said on that piece of paper. They insisted I pay before and got really mad when I didnt. Dr. Salem went as far as saying that his assistant was a doctor in another country like if I or anyone cares about that. Dr. Salem is very nice and did a great job with the emergency surgery my 6 month old Lab needed to remove a foreign body. He later typed his notes so I could submit them to the pet insurance company. I understand some of the reviews, but it is emergency care. Emergency care is expensive. They need to run tests. They want to get paid. This is not your routine vet visit. They dont know you or your pet and have no medical or payment records to go on (usually). Dr Salem gave me an estimate and was specificly clear on post-surgical care and follow up. My only complaints involve a medication that I didnt need for appetite enhancement ($85) and the vet tech was rather rough with my puppy, grabbing his ear to settle him down, for example. I felt she was unprofessional and lacking the communication skills needed to reassure a pet parent, but later found out shes a college student. In short, I hope I dont need them again, but the care was appropriate, with good execution. I recommend them for emergency veterinary care.

I feel if my credit was not as good they would have had to be more efficient, but as it stands all my limit has been used. It will take a solid year to get it paid done so I dont have to pay interest.I am so appreciative of the care and compassion, but feel it could have easily been done for half and cut out many tests, and the struggle to pay this in a year would not be so great.

I took my sick cat here back in March after being told that a new emergency vet had opened in Harrisonburg. Right off the bat you are required to give them $100 before they will even put you in a room (which was fine). I was then given an estimate of almost $400 to further treat. I felt like I had no other choice because I wanted my cat to feel better. 2.5 hours later (we were the only ones there) and no resolution to what was wrong with my cat we were released to take her home. When I go to check out my bill is now $578.00 for a grand total of almost $700 to run blood work, testing, fluids and some meds. I could have thrown up. I went home and just cried. The VERY next day my personal vet sends out an email stating they do not recommend that this emergency vet is used due to client feedback and to continue using other known emergency clinics. Talk about adding insult to injury. I was appreciative that my cat was able to be made comfortable but what I was charged was absurd. I will never take one of my animals there again.

Just because you are open when no one else is or you work on weekends & holidays does not justify taking advantage of people seeking medical care for their pets. An emergency fee is understandable & expected, but not the completely unreasonable inflation of basic medical supplies & simple treatment. I paid less than $100 at my regular vet for everything including, mild sedation, cleaning, bandaging, emergency exam fee & antibiotics. Our dogs nail had superficially broken off & our two choices were to surgically remove the entire nail under anesthesia (I cant even imagine how much you would have charged us for that) or $400 bandages....

Bare bones operation. Not a pleasant place to visit. Wanted $75.00 almost before I got in the door. Facilities seem very spare. Doc wanted $1400.00 to take out my dogs broken toenail. Took him to Verona and had it done for $230.00 by extremely nice people. I will never go to this place again.

Waist of $100. I went there when my dog had blood in his stool and I was worried sick. The doctor told me it could be worms or something else, and proceeded to tell me all about the something else and how it required hospitalization and IV treatment. Scared me into thinking there was something seriously wrong with my dog and then gave me a $2000 estimate. NEVER tested my dog for worms ($50) and did not even explain the estimate himself. When I asked if I could have a copy of the estimate; they couldnt give me one and wrote a total down on a STICKY NOTE. It was a joke. I will never be back.Edit. Your level of professionalism is somewhere between non existant and pathetic for you to respond to reviews from 2 years ago just to be as rude as you were during the appointment. Thanks for the further validation of my review, and half of the other reviews of the practice. You are so right, myself and my dog did not deserve your services.

This place is a lifesaver, I do not understand why all these bad reviews. These are people who do not want to get their pets diagnosed and treated the proper way . The clinic is very well maintened and they have high quality equipment . I took my old lab here twice and I drive 1 hour from my home, and each time he gets the right diagnosis and treatment. All I would tell the haters , leave these people alone

What is wrong with you people!!!! You dont even care about animals, you just want to charge an extraordinary amount because you know people will do anything for their pets. DISGUSTED by this place and I will never go here. There is another one a little bit further that is much more reasonable and actual cares about animals. You guys should be shut down.

Our dog was attacked by another dog on a Sunday afternoon. The the clinic took him in right away, assessed him, stitched him up, and got him back to us ASAP. We felt like they took great care of our pup (and us) in a time of need. Yes, theyre a bit expensive, but most emergency services are. Were grateful for their work.

DO NOT GO HERE. My kitten had a very bad infection and they kept him over night, he was a little better in the morning but they charged me $1000. They gave me antibiotics to take home and couldn’t say what was wrong with him, and didn’t give any after care instructions. My other kitten got the same infection so I took him to the vet, they gave him antibiotics and fluids and let me take him home, for only $160.Don’t go here, they are only looking to make money and will refuse to treat your animal until you pay.

Im searching around for a vet closer to where I live now and after reading 50+ reviews and looking into this vets history I found that his licence is in indefinite suspension following five substantiated cases through the Vet Board... This buisness needs to be SHUT DOWN immediately. I am absolutely disgusted. I will be making the trip to Woodstock to see Tom Truban, he has been my family vet for as long as I have been alive and he is nothing short of amazing with our fur babies.

If 0 rating was available, I would choose it. We had to pay $100 exam fee before we ever saw a Vet. We were then presented with an estimate of services, to find out why she was not feeling well. It was over $700, and included services that were unnecessary, such as a heart worm test. We had already told them that our dog received regular Vet exams from her Vet. They would not consider payments; wanted payment in full. We had to sign paperwork declining services, before we could leave. $100 down the drain, for nothing !**A visit to our local Vet, when they opened, cost a little over $80. Our dog was quickly diagnosed & treated. She is doing well.**!!! UPDATE June 28, 2020 !!!My review was posted 3 yrs ago. I see the owner replied one day ago, saying we were cheap. Before you take your animal to Dr. Salem, do yourself a favor, and look him up on the internet. You will find it very interesting! The only reason he posted the preply that he did, was because I reported him to the VA Veterinary Board.

If you have the money to save your pet straight out, Im sure youll have a great experience. Before my pet was treated they required a $100 fee and more to treat her, over $1000. Some money was raised though caring friends and we paid the hospital. I hadnt even made it home before I received the call that my beloved kitty had died. Had I had the money Im sure she could have been saved. I am devastated. When a human goes the hospital, the money is paid later and the care is received now. Pets should receive no lessEDIT Im told they will be fixing the payment issue soon.

Completely overpriced. Taking advantage of the fact that theyre the only ones open. If its not a dire emergency, take your pet to Verona or Massenutten. The doctor was nice, but condescending and didnt really understand my concerns. They shaved my cat unnecessarily and bruised her. Additionally, they are very bad about sending records to primary vets and are hard to deal with.

Do not take your animals here. They will lie to you and tell you to pay thousands up front for treatment you havent received, and try to tell you that your animal is dying within hours to scare you into receiving treatment.I took my pet to a regular veterinary office this morning, he has a minor infection and will be fine. This joke of an institution tried to tell me that he wouldnt survive two days without receiving expensive, life saving, invasive procedures. They will tell you that you are cheap when you cannot afford $2,000, and they will accuse you of being an irresponsible pet owner when you tell them you want a second opinion. The doctor here has MULTIPLE lawsuits against him. Please, if you can take your animal somewhere else, do so first. This place is horrendous.

We made a big mistake leaving our house without our 10 month old goldendoodles car sickness prescription. By the time we got 3 hours from our house and driving through those winding roads, she was getting sick constantly. This was the start of a 2 day drive to Texas, so it was apparent she was going to need something better than an OTC pill. We looked up vets in the area to help her out. We tried to avoid this one because of the poor reviews and because it was an Emergency Clinic which automatically has an up-charge. No other vet had any appointments available. Since it was just motion sickness, we decided to use this emergency vet even with the poor reviews. We were very happy with our puppys treatment.First, let me say, if you are not familiar with an emergency pet service, know they have an up charge. Similar to an ER for humans. When I called, the vet tech made me aware of the initial fee and what it included. He let me know that I would get an estimate if any further diagnostics, treatments or medicines were needed. We arrived and he took the initial $75 payment. Do I find this odd? Who am I to say. They are running a business so if they want that upfront, I dont care. I am paying it regardless. The vet tech took the puppy vitals and Dr. Salem gave her a good check over to ensure he felt confident it was just motion sickness. After the exam, he recommended a different car sickness medicine than what she usually takes. This was fine by me because I wasnt too crazy about the other meds. He also recommended the first dose be injected since we were already on the road (takes effect faster). Finally, because she got sick so many times, he recommended giving her IV fluids before she leaves to help relax her. I agreed to all of it. So, the cost was $300 for exam, IV fluids, injection and prescription medicine to be taken 1 hour before travel. This was not a ripoff to me and it was my choice to agree to the treatment and meducine. Frankly, it was my fault for leaving the house without her other medicine. The win here is 30 hours later, still driving to Texas, my puppy is calm in the vehicle. She is not drooling, pacing or panting. She is clearly very comfortable. This was far more successful than what my regular vet has done for her and frankly, my regular vet is expensive too.I forgot to mention - Dr Salem gave recommendations about preparing the dog for a long car ride. We followed his instructions to the letter and it has helped tremendously. So, in closing, I am not from the area so will most likely never be back, but I can say I walked away feeling very good about her care.

I have a dog named Hobby, who is 5 years old, and about 2 weeks ago, he started vomiting after eating his food and something went wrong with him. I took him to the Harrisonburg Veterinary Emergency Clinic…… The vet gave him proper medication and advised some tests as well. The tests were normal and it was just food poisoning.

Overcharged us for terrible care for our cat. Our cat was “degloved” and he put stitches where there wasn’t any skin to stitch! Wouldn’t give us antibiotics for him and his leg got terribly infected. He told us that leaving the bandage on for five days would be fine, but it wasn’t. Within two days he had an infection. We nearly lost our cat and for a while we were afraid he would need his leg amputated. Luckily our local vet, Massanutten animal clinic, is AMAZING and knows what they are doing. If it weren’t for the amazing staff there our precious kitty would be dead. I beg you, do not take your pet here, the extra travel to go somewhere else is definitely worth it.
