Smiles by Shaw is the best dentist office in Greenville! I love Dr. Minges, she always makes me feel comfortable in the chair and makes me feel like my “teeth goals” are possible. And so do the assistants and hygienists! They are all amazing and so sweet! I have had this tied tongue situation on my upper lip and gum basically all my life. When I met with Dr. Minges about it she literally said I can laser this off easily with one maybe 2 treatments… I was shocked! Well it was the best decision ever having the frenectomy done. My smile is bigger and wider!😁

We were referred to Smiles by Shaw to have our infants tongue tie evaluated so we decided to bring our toddler as well for her first dental appointment. I was extremely nervous going in as I have a fear of dentists myself but let me tell you, they were amazing. Dr. Minges did not push to hard with our toddler and did as much as she could without making her too uncomfortable. She was extremely patient with her and did not get frustrated with her crying and unwillingness to cooperate. As for the infant, she eased any concerns about having her tongue and lip tie revised and made us comfortable with having the procedure done. When she returned with her after the procedure our baby wasnt even crying!! She has also made herself very accessible for after care and making sure everything is going well with recovery. I am excited to continue a relationship with Dr. Minges for the care of our girls!!

Dr. Minges and staff have always been so friendly and personable. Everyone always has a smile on their face and is nothing but nice. Recently I had to have more extensive work done and Dr. Minges was thorough and took her time to make sure everything was done perfectly. This office is amazing!!! I switched to this office after being with my previous dentist for more than 10 years and I havent regretted it for a second! My previous dentist wanted to refer me out for an orthodontist consult, when what I needed was a very simple thing. Smiles by Shaw and Dr. Minges agreed to help me, saving me a trip out of town to see my old orthodontist! Then, when my son was born this year, we quickly determined he was tongue tied, making it near impossible for him to breastfeed. This team worked us in quickly and performed the procedure needed for my son to be able to safely nurse. The staff and Dr. Minges have been outstanding! I would highly recommend them to anyone!!

Not many folks I think say they love their dentist....but I do. I started coming here years ago when I moved to Greenville and wouldnt consider leaving. Everyone is friendly and professional. They were taking health precautions to the max before covid even hit. No corners are cut for staff and patient safety. I dont feel like I am a number or that they want to upsell me with something I dont need. I feel valued.

We took my newborn to Smiles by Shww for a frenectomy. Dr. Minges and everyone else we worked with was incredibly friendly, calm, and took time to explain procedures and answer questions.

I am incredibly pleased with our experience at this office! We took our one week old son in for a suspected lip and tongue tie evaluation that was potentially causing our breastfeeding issues. They worked us in SO quickly and were able to revise his ties the same day. It was such a quick and easy procedure and it provided immediate relief. I had my first pain-free nursing experience just minutes after the procedure. Happy momma and a happy baby! So thankful for Dr. Marcuard!

I am a first time mother and I exclusively breastfeed. My breastfeeding journey has been a difficult one. My son had both a tongue and lip tie that was hindering our journey. I sought help from pediatricians and lactation consultants desperate because my son had issues with weight gain. Sadly, I was unable to receive the help I needed locally. I specifically asked my sons pediatrician to check him for ties. She stated it was not necessary because my son had enough wet diapers. At this point I was feeding my every 1-2 hours. If it were not for the mothers and lactation consultants in my breastfeeding support groups I may have given up on breastfeeding. I shared a picture of my son’s latch on the support group page and I was immediately pointed in the right direction. I went to a pediatric dentist at Smiles by Shaw to have my son evaluated for ties after finding them listed as a preferred provider in one of my support groups. This was the best decision I have ever made! The entire staff at smiles by Shaw were very kind and professional. From the very sweet receptionist Megan, to the very knowledgeable and supportive dental hygienists, and the very empathetic dentist herself! Dr. Minges is honestly the best medical professional I’ve ever met in my 28 years of life. She is also a mother who breastfeeds so she could relate to me on a very all level. She gave me lots of advice and encouragement. She taught me how to do my son’s aftercare to prepare outside the office as well. The procedure was quick and I was able to feed my son right after. He only cried a little but and was back to his normal self in about 8hrs. My sons insurance didn’t even cover the procedure, but the price was so fair we were able to afford it! It’s honestly the best money I’ve ever spent. No regrets! Don’t hesitate to go to this dentist. Dr. Minges and her entire staff made going to the dentist a very pleasant experience. 10/10 I recommend.

When I had special concerns or just needed an opinion regarding my daughters teeth, Dr. Minges made time to work us in and spent extra time giving me information and detailed explanations. I am definitely a satisfied patient!

Dr. Holcomb is AMAZING!Everyone in the practice is wonderful. I was visiting from out of town and my temporary bridge broke in half... I called and they had just had a cancellation. Dr. Holcomb was so patient and totally restored my temp. In fact, it’s even more beautiful than it was originally?!?!? She was so caring and even took the time to “cure” tiny little pieces of the bond to ensure the color matched perfect. I don’t know many dentists who would do this... If we lived here, Smiles by Shaw and Dr. Holcomb would be my top pick for a dentist for my entire family.The assistants, front office, and the dentists are all caring, sweet individuals who truly love what they do. I used to be terrified of the dentist. In fact I stopped going for years. A friend introduced me to the staff at Dr .Shaw’s office. They have been amazing and made me comfortable ever since I started coming. They are all wonderful. I highly recommend them to anyone.

I am a high fear dental patient and selected Smiles By Shaw really only because they offered Nitrous Oxide during painful procedures. The bridge that had been there for 35 years had come out. I had many other dental issues as well, so had to overcome my fear, buck up and face it.I was assigned to Dr. Holcomb which was indeed a blessing. She has the 3 things I look for in a dentist: technical proficiency, kindness & compassion and she is a perfectionist. To get all my issues sorted, I must have had 10 appointments, to replace a filling, root canal, a crown and replacing the bridge. She seemed to really know what she was doing and always made it a point to explain what needed to be done and when there were options, gave me the information to make a decision., I am currently unemployed and to replace the bridge was way out of my budget. She suggested a partial denture. The good doctor really understood her patients financial reality.Even though my greatest fear, the drill, came into play for the various treatments, I only felt the need to use the Nitrous Oxide for the filling replacement and root canal. She was very gentle and always concerned that I was comfortable. The lab that did the dentures had to build 3 sets before Dr. Holcomb was satisfied with the way they looked. I thought the first one was fine but she felt the color was off, they had to be perfect and the 3rd one met her stringent criteria. She made it clear that she would take however long it took to get it right. While I am still not thrilled about going to the dentist, it no longer have any fear about it. Dr. Holcomb and the entire staff are wonderful and recommend them with no reservation..

Ive been their client for probably 20 years and have been bringing our three kids ages 13-17 since they were each 2. The dentists, as well as the hygienists, are attentive, knowledgeable, personable, and thorough. I have never felt like Ive been talked into unnecessary treatment. The dentists use one another for 2nd opinions when necessary and recommend more extreme treatments only after trying other options first. I appreciate this about them. I went to Smiles by Shaw for a second opinion on my front teeth. I had been told I needed veneers to recover from past damage, but was nervous about taking that leap. (Not only because it costs a fortune but can compromise the integrity of your teeth, and I am really young). Dr. Holcomb was a wonderful resource and pointed out that the damage was stemming from my teeth not being aligned. It was so nice to see her use a conservative approach rather than a quick fix. It turns out the alignment was resulting in chips and breaks of my front teeth and the same thing would happen with veneers! So glad I went to see her! On the track to straight teeth now and no chips or breaks down the line !!!

Ive seen Dr. Marcuard multiple times and would recommend her to anyone. Ive always had a great experience from start to finish. The staff takes great care of you. My experience at SmilesbyShaw was excellent. The care I receives was amazing and educational. My dentist was Dr. Holcomb. She brought out the best in me. She explained cleaning, the fitting process of my partials, and how to improve my hygiene. Her best quality was making me to not settle for ok. She said she wanted it perfect. Although at first I was skeptical, I soon realized that she knew when things were just OK and when they were perfect. She strove for excellence.That was the care I received. I should have a few complaints.Nobody is perfect..., right !? Wrong. Based on the final product, perfection was obtained. I got my smile back.Thanks to EVERYONE at SmilesbyShaw ! I got a recommendation from a friend to see Dr. Marcuard. I needed a crown replaced. At the first appt., the dental assistant packed the cord used to separate the gum tissue from the tooth too deeply/vigorously. It was quite uncomfortable and I generally have no issues with any dental procedures.... I was in significant pain for 2-3 days following. Ive had many crowns (unfortunately) and have never experienced this much pain from a prep appointment. A few weeks later I returned to have the permanent crown placed and I remarked to the dental assistant (a different one) that I had been in a great deal of pain following my prep. appt. and that my gum still hurt and bleed if you even looked at them funny. She agreed that the tissue was abnormally irritated for the length of time passed and should have reset to its original position by then but was still separated from the tooth and very sore. She suggested I gargle salt water for a couple weeks. That did not help.Months later now, the gum around that tooth (especially between the teeth) has receded and looks dark. Food gets caught all around that tooth and flossing is a bloodbath. Disappointed.

I have been a patient of Dr. Shaw almost from the time she opened her practice. Even after I moved to Goldsboro over 20 years ago I still drive to Greenville for my children and myself for dental care. Dr. Marcuard has worked with my son who has Huntingtons Disease with the patience of a saint. Dr. Holcomb made such an impact on my daughter that she is pursuing dentistry as a profession. I visited this dentist several times to have fillings put in. I paid very high dollar amounts for each. So far three of my fillings have came out. Poor mouth work. Stay away.

I went to Smiles By Shaw and saw Dr. Marcuard several months ago for fairly severe dental pain, and was told that I had pulled a tooth ligament, and that I should take motrin. After a few weeks without relief, I returned, was checked, given more x-rays, and told that my pain should be controlled with the motrin. I was fitted for a mouth guard for teeth grinding, which did not fit at all. After an hour of trying to fit the guard, the dentist told me that I would get used to it. After a week wearing the guard, I was in severe pain and had multiple mouth sores from the mouth guard rubbing. I then went to my original dentist in Wilmington, and he did cold testing on the teeth in question, (which they didnt do at this office) and found that I had no active sensation on the surface of either tooth. 2 root canals and a properly fitted mouth guard later, I am pain free.On the positive side, the front office staff were friendly, available, and helpful as they could be. The dental assistant was friendly, but seemed unsure of the technique for fitting the molds for my mouthguard, and ended up using so much of the mold gel that I swallowed a small amount.I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this dentist to anyone. I was treated in a borderline rude manner by the dentist when I said the original medications were not working, and when I said the mouth guard did not fit. I originally thought that the missed diagnosis was due to my having an obscure problem, but my dentist in Wilmington had the issue diagnosed in a single visit. I have 15 years in health care, and I try to reserve public criticism of others in medicine, but my treatment was obviously not in keeping with the standards of practice, and the interpersonal interactions with the dentist left me feeling like a medication seeker, which I obviously was not.To add insult to injury, even after I told the staff that I had transferred back to my previous dentist, and I was no longer going to be seeking care from them, I still receive automated notifications that I need to schedule appointments.
