I used to attend group therapy at Ascend 4 days a week. While the staff were very kind, I still am not pleased with what happened during my time spent there. I attended Ascend from November of 2020 to February of 2021. The other clients there were informed ahead of time when they would be graduating from the program. In late January, I was pulled into one of the social workers’ offices and told that my treatment would be shortened to 2 days out of the week. Completely fine with that. It was well known at the time that once someone started to show improvement, their days at Ascend would be reduced. However, everyone I knew in the group was reduced to 2 days a week and then stayed for a few months further before graduating. A week after my time was reduced, I was once again pulled into an office. There they informed me that I would be graduating in 2 weeks. Two weeks. I told them I wasn’t ready. I told them that if I were to graduate, I felt like I would attempt to hurt myself. My mental health relies a lot on social outlets, and due to covid, Ascend was my only social outlet. While I knew I could not stay forever, I also knew that I was not in a stable enough place to leave. After telling them that I would probably attempt to hurt myself, they told me it was an “emotional reaction” and that I would be fine on the day of my actual graduation. Fortunately enough, my school opened back up a month later and I was able to slowly get to a better place again. Leaving Ascend so abruptly was an awful experience and I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. This is not a one off either. I had other friends at Ascend that pleaded not to graduate or be kicked out but they still were. A friend of mine was kicked out with ONE DAYS NOTICE. He was told (by his father, might I add. Not even a staff member) that he had one more session he could attend to say his goodbyes but then he would be discharged from the program. They said they could not help him with his drug problems despite their website promoting otherwise. This is not a slander against the staff at Ascend, they are wonderful people and I do not regret my time spent here. I just wish they would have given myself and my friends a further notice when it came to discharging/graduating us. I hope they have since resolved this issue within the program.

We tried Ascend because our insurance said they would partially cover services, but still had to pay a substantial amount out of pocket. We had a bad experience at a time when we needed help. After the intake process, Ascend provided little to no communication to parents. We had to call several times to get a call back if we got one at all. After a few weeks of not receiving call backs we tried to escalate the lack of communication to the director, but all they seemed to care about was billing. Every time they billed us, we were overcharged and had to request a re-fund, one time we were overcharged by $2600. Our teenager was not helped by their services and in fact developed new behaviors and ticks that quickly subsided once we stopped services because no one was communicating with us. I still have no idea what we paid for or what our teenager did for the weeks they attended, we were far better off before we started services.

I enrolled my 16 year old son at Ascend when he was struggling with online learning and feeling helpless. I can not say enough good things about our entire process! The growth that I have seen in him is indescribable, he is happier, more confident, he has not only learned new tools but actually uses them. I would recommend Ascend Behavioral Health to anyone who has a teen that is struggling.

I reached out to this service due to my teen’s depression increasing exponentially due to COVID. This place, a wolf in sheep’s clothing; assured the moon & waxed poetic about their services including peer group therapy & hospitalization if necessary. In short, NO communication between the parents & therapist unless I called and called and called…Our child actually got worse here. They developed tics, self-harm, & suicidal ideations. This service talked their hospitalization up like vacation from the parents so much our child actual tried to harm themselves with too much NyQuil. So they could go!Yes clearly, we have other issues, but this is supposed to be a professional behavioral health center that focuses on BEHAVIOR. Only interested in payment, too difficult to get a hold of anyone, the final straw was the realization of how much worse our child had gotten in one month of therapy with Ascend.Since leaving, our child is not self harming & the learned tics have dissipated (28 days to learn/unlearn behavior & all). Depression and behavior is still prevalent, but we had to get back to square one thanks to Ascend.I could not in good conscience stay quiet and simply walk away. It must be known how detrimentally harmful this service can be. Our child was fortunately pulled before they could really hurt themselves. Are you willing to roll those dice with your child?

From the first time I called asking for help to the very last session, this team has demonstrated real care and compassion for our family. I’m truly grateful for all the care given to my beautiful daughter. I cannot thank them enough. Healing while not easy is possible and within reach when guided by people like The Ascend’s team.

I can’t possibly give Ascend Behavior Health enough stars! We have been struggling with our 16 year old for 10 years. Different medications, therapists, psychiatrists, and at-home services. This is the ONLY PLACE where she has come out of her self-inflicted cage. There’s peace in our home now. They truly work miracles. I can’t thank this group enough, we finally have hope, and more importantly, we feel like we are getting our daughter back!!!

I first started coming to Ascend when I was 17. At first I was skeptical, and I was scared to share and express my feelings. For a short while I was just like “what am I even doing here, I’m not even an adult?”But after a few sessions I started to ease in and really give group therapy a chance. Once I did that my life changed tremendously. I learned so much about myself and about mental health. I gained so much knowledge, not only about coping mechanisms and therapy stuff, but also just life skills. I met some of the most incredible and caring people here. After a while of coming, the people here really turned into a second family for me. I actually looked forward to ascend after school. The craziest thing though is that, I was actually one of the oldest kids there. There were kids in elementary school there, there was kids in High-school(the older kids usually get there own session together and the younger kids usually got their own session together as well). I met so many people, of all different backgrounds, and I just gained so much by going here. If I could rate this place higher than 5 starts I would, because this place gave me one of the craziest feeling I’ve ever felt in my life. The people here really worked hard to make this place feel like a safe bubble in Fresno. With some of the best therapist in the county, and the some of the friendliest staff, ascend completely changed my life. And for one of the first times in my life I felt like I mattered and that I belonged. I unfortunately was only able to go for a short while, but even in that short while I gained so much and saw noticeable improvements in myself. Give it a chance, it will change your life for the better. Or at least it did for me
