This is a wonderful campground. We had a double site and it was huge! Beautiful huge trees everywhere. Very clean toilets thanks to Vicki, the lovely and helpful campground host. Nice cool water easily accessible throughout. We were lucky enough to have a campsite on the creek. No fires (like everywhere in California during a drought year), but there was a great big stump that we all sat around like a fire and it was awesome for playing cards. Through the meadow there was a trail to the waterfall, which wasnt that huge (again due to the drought) but the kids loved it and swam in it. The campground is hard to get to - with no cell service - so plan accordingly. Make sure you have all the food and supplies you need. We had google maps navigate us to Hartland and then from there to the campground. Its a pretty simple route, but feels difficult with the windy, single lane roads and as you drive through Hartland there is a sign that says welcome to the Hartland camp that might make you think you will hit a dead end, but just keep driving and you will soon see signs to the Eshom camp.

Love it here. A little off the beaten path but very quiet and peaceful. The campground manager steve is super nice and he keeps the vault toilets very clean. It is a bit of a drive to the center of the park, but we dont mind the drives through the forest.

This campsite is off the beaten path, but once you’re there, it offers large sites, clean bathrooms, and a small creek running through the campground. My only minus for the site was the distance that you have to travel to get to the National Park.If you book here, be sure to read the directions carefully, or you’ll find yourself on a bumpy road!

Beautiful place to camp, great campsites and a beautiful flowing creek that runs through the campground. Two things that can be improved is that there are many cows and bulls that get out into the campsite and will wake you up early in the morning. The other thing is the vault toilets smell pretty bad. I asked the host how often they get cleaned out she said every year. Other than that beautiful place.

Eshom is worth the drive up the mountain...and for some reason it was half the time coming home of course. Just be prepared for large cows and bulls in the road when you get close to the campground. They move out of the way though. And there’s two bulls that roam the mountains yelling at eachother. They sound like a bear. We thought for sure we were going to have bears roaming around. Turned out the two bulls were looking for eachother. They stopped yelling after they reconvened. 😂.It was beautifully maintained. Bathrooms are super clean. The stream really helps you keep cool.TIP: download the map before you go. The geographical coordinates are ___________________ (ill update this when I find them again) the address is Forest Service Rd 14S75, Blackfoot Ca.And download music or movies...you’ll lose service at the bottom of the mountain. Both my Verizon and T-Mobile phones lost service until we hit the campgrounds...then only Verizon worked.

Im very new to camping and choosing this campground seemed like a risk at first due to the little information that I was able to find about it. The only problem that I had was actually contacting the facility itself. I had a friend that wanted to know if we were able to fish anywhere near the area, but was never able to find out since no one was available to receive my call. Other than that, this campground was a dream. Waking up near a flowing stream could not have been a more relaxing experience. As you drive up to the camp, you see ranch style homes filled with cattle, and everything seems a little dry, which makes you wonder, where are all the tall trees that Ive seen online? As you keep driving, the scenery suddenly changes from dry browns to luscious greens. It was like you teleported into a different biome. The campground was very quiet and very clean. I would recommend getting one of the bigger camps because while I was walking around the grounds, I noticed the smaller camps seemed to be a little too small, but its all about preferences anyway. Water being provided was very convenient. There is plenty of wood to scavenge for fires and it would be best to stock up before night comes, as it gets pitch black during the night. There was actually a bull roaming around the grounds while we were there which was a little frightening and exciting, but it was far away from our camp so it was not a bother. I really recommend going the meadow to take in the great view of the tree covered mountain. If you go here, do not forget bug spray. Our double sized camp would easily fit the maximum amount of people they suggest and I would recommend bringing your closest friends. Have a cooler stocked with food as there are no shops nearby. I found that doing research on how to use dry ice in coolers allowed me to keep my food frozen solid for the 4 nights that i stayed. The grounds keeper was very friendly as well, and only interacted with us once to sign in. Camps are also spaced apart which gives you a more intimate experience. I would highly recommend this camp to get away from your day to day, and i will definitely be coming here for another get away in the future. Also, make sure to load up on gas and checking your tire pressure is a good idea before going up the winding road to the camp. The road itself is longer than I expected, so just a good idea to play it safe. Sorry for a long review, but damn it was a really good trip.

First thing is first! No waterfall exists anywhere near this campground. The creek does not run down into a waterfall. Went on 5 hikes looking for this made up waterfall and never found it. I am almost like a Bear Gryllis if not better (lol) and never found it. Don’t go looking for it.Bathrooms are AWWWFUL! They are septic tanks and emptied every 4 months. Yes. The smell is disgusting. The campground is right next to a privately owned meadow/ranch. Very beautiful. BUT- the cows on that property moooo all.... night......long. The cows get loose often aaaaand the ranchers are called each morning to round them up at 6:30 am!! This was a nightmare!!! Yelling and screaming at the cows and the echo thru the valley. Just not ideal for waking up.The site is beautiful. No doubt about that. Along a creek where you can hang out and just relax during the day. Good place to get away if you can tolerate the above. 2 hrs away from Hume lake.NO CAMPFIRES!! NO CAMPFIRES ALLOWED!! Buyer beware!!!NO CHARCOAL FIRES!!

The campground itself is fabulous. Secluded, quiet, clean bathrooms, Steve is a great host. If you are going to either National Park though, know that it is a LONG drive. There is a short cut to get into the park in less than an hour, but it is a rough, one lane dirt mountain road. If your car needs pavement, expect at least 90 min to reach the park entrance.

Read other peoples reviews about directions to the site and its not going to be too bad. This entire campground is lovely but the magical spots are the group sites. My kids (6, 5 and 2) played in the picturesque creek for hours. Also, there were no bugs at this site! How is that even possible? We asked about poison oak and the camp host, Steve, informed us that it had all been cleared.tip #1: a ton of trees were felled to help with a bark beetle problem so bring your hatchet and you will have all the free wood you can possibly imagine. The group sites are sitting on most of it, the single sites didnt have much so maybe bring a wagon or something to fetch some is you are at a single site.tip#2: there is a shortcut road from Eshom to Kings Canyon Park (where you can see glorious gigantic trees--I mean they are insane!) that will cut the 1 hr 45 min drive to a measly 40 minutes! This is an unpaved road and it is a really beautiful drive but its best if you have a car/truck that is higher off the ground. Some of the rocks in the road and divots from water run-off were quite deep. Steve will direct you about the road but it also shows up on Google maps.

Take the road from Generals Hwy. It is a little rough but enjoyable. You will come across a nature study center operated by a college. Whitaker is buried there. One of the best rough it(no electricity/water at site) style campgrounds I have been to. Great if you have dogs. There is a large field where cows roam towards the southern end. Walk through field and keep to the right. It is a very easy hike.Look for a creek and follow it downstream. You will see large granite boulders with grain grinding holes (IndianBEST time to go is when schools are back in session if you like less crowds. We went in Sept. and it was empty.

Great place to stay! The cleanest camp bathrooms I have ever seen in my life! Steve was an excellent and accommodating camp host who made us feel very welcome and had great tips on exploring the area. No bear boxes, so food must be kept in your car. We saw some cattle run through the grounds which was very cool and we enjoyed going on walks through the fields and along the creek, there are also some native american mortar bowls on a huge rock nearby. There is a great dirt road into the park from the campground that allows for a quieter and less traveled experience of the sequoias. We would definitely stay here again, sadly no fires were allowed except for camping stoves (due to seasonal restrictions), so make sure you get a permit.

This campsite is maintained very well, and Steve is a very welcoming host. The vault bathrooms are really clean, and there is water available (drinkable, too)! As others have mentioned, it can be a little bit of a challenge to get here, but its doable. Definitely preview the GPS directions as much as you can and in detail just in case your cell phone reception doesnt work (only Verizon seems to work around the area). As others have also mentioned, I can confirm the following (at least, for the single sites, which have a max of 6 people): no bear boxes (leave the cooler in your car and covered so that bears cant see), one picnic table, one fire pit (though, there was a fire restriction when my group went... so we couldnt use it), nearest gas stations towards the Sequoia National Park are probably either Stony Creek or a little past Hume Lake at the Christian camp (I think the one at the Christian camp had only 87 octane gas), there is a dirt road that leads to the Kings Canyon area (maybe about 40ish minutes) its rough, so a car with taller clearance and AWD/4WD is recommended... though, I suppose a regular 2WD sedan can make it if you go slow on the really bumpy parts), no electricity, and no showers. Just a note about the bathrooms - make sure the toilet lid and bathroom door are closed after use! Otherwise, the unpleasant bathroom smell leaks over to the campsites. Do everyone a favor and close all lids and doors around the bathroom! Our group really enjoyed our stay!

My friend and I spent 3 nights at Eshom Campground as a way of exploring Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks and we LOVED IT! We stayed here originally because we could not make reservations in the National Park, but it ended up being one of the best parts of the trip. The sites are very large, and MUCH more private than the sites in the National Park. We felt totally alone among the beautiful trees and under the stunning view of the stars. The sites are pretty standard- picnic table and a fire pit. There are no bear boxes but you should keep your food in the trunk of your car. There is a pit toilet which is kept VERY clean. There is potable water available, but we got water from the small creek that runs by the campground and boiled it. Steve, the host on the campground was very kind and helpful and has firewood for sale (though there was plenty to be found around the site). As another reviewer suggested, from Badger we took Eshom Valley Rd. via Hartland rather than Whitaker Forest Rd. which GPS suggests. Eshom Valley Rd. was well maintained. From the campground, reaching the park requires driving about 20 minutes on an unpaved, winding road. This would be difficult in bad weather, but we managed to do it in a Mazda Protoge without 4 wheel drive. The drive also takes you through a Sequoia grove- leave your sunroof open if you have one for some amazing views of the trees! If you are coming from the park, the turn off to this road is labeled with a sign for Redwood Canyon. In total, the campground is about 30 minutes from the Kings Canyon Visitors Center, an hour from the Lodgepole Visitors Center, and about an hour and a half from the Giant Forest Museum. When you look via GPS, it appears that there is no gas station anywhere near the national parks, but there is a gas station in the national forest at Stony Creek.Eshom Creek Campground really helped make our trip so wonderful- it gave us a great jump off point to explore different areas of the National Parks, and offered solitude and privacy after our days of exploring. Highly recommended!

Eshoms appeal is the unique experience of being in a comfortable camp yet very much in the back woods, Worlds away from your normal NP campground, Eshom is a National Forest campground, and is located at about 5200 feet where cattle graze the woods and cowboys often ride through camp. Bears are no problem here, but birdwatching, and letting the kids run off through the woods safely are definite pluses. Almost all the reservable campsites are truly awesome. Especially the group sites, one of which has a pretty huge sequoia right in the middle. Otherwise the trees are merely 300 cedars and sugar pines that put off the largest cones weve ever seen. Drive two miles to Whittaker Forest for the best Sequoia- watching experience to be had in the Park, simply because youll likely be the only one there. The hosts have managed the camp for years, and couldnt be more friendly and helpful. Good water you carry to your campsite, and the cleanest vault toilets youll find anywhere. The one thing is getting there. Some research of the route is well worth it. From the West, dont follow (gps and website) directions up route 180 and then down route 245 to Badger, and then up forest Whittaker road to Eshom Camp. It is a little shorter but the elevation change is approximately 10,000 feet and roads are abismal - barely passable. We pulled a small trailer, and made it but it took 2 1/2 hours. Instead, turn off 180 onto Dunlap road at the ranger station down at the bottom of the first mountain. Follow that through Dunlap to route 245, and then into Badger. Then for goodness sake dont take Whittaker Forest road. From Badger, proceed onto Eshom Valley road for a beautiful drive that gradually rises through handsome farms to the village of Hartland, and then on to eventually connect back to Whittaker Forest Road.We loved our three days at Eshom. Although getting from there into Kings Canyon National Park is a 3 mile - 30 minute drive, keeping the crowds at bay makes the Eshom experience even better.

Great place in the seclusion of Sequaia NP. The groundskeeper was also super friendly and had a lot of tips. Only the journey is a little difficult and takes time, but the quiet CG, which is divided into individual places, is a worthwhile overnight destination. (A little tip: in good weather, you can see the Milky Way from a large meadow nearby.)
