My experience at McDonald Eye was beyond amazing. Dr. Betts treated me like I was his only patient and he sincerely cared about my eyesight and my experience. I frankly couldn’t believe how kind and personable he was. He and his staff did a great job preparing me for the procedure and made the whole process remarkably smooth and as comfortable as possible. I was seeing 20-20 the very next day. And now, almost a month later, my eyesight is amazing and it’s great not having to keep up with glasses anymore. I wish I’d done this years ago. I recommend McDonald Eye Associates without reservation. Thank you!

McDonald Eye always takes as much time as I need to answer any questions and I never feel rushed. I have been waiting since April to have cataract surgery. Due to having severe dry eyes my Dr recommended treating my eyes first. I just saw Dr Mengarelli yesterday and I’ll finally have my 1st surgery Sept 2nd!! All the Drs & techs treat you like you are the only patient they have! McDonald Eye is a caring & great Eye Care Center. A friend recommended them to me & I will do the same!!

My husband and I had scheduled eye appointments with Dr. Mengarelli. We arrived a few minutes early and were checked and pointed to the waiting area. The appointment was for 11:45. At 12:00 we were each given the initial exam by different staff people and directed to another waiting area. After a few minutes we were asked if we wanted to see the Dr. together. This was fine with us. We were taken to an exam room where we sat and sat and sat. I opened the door to ask what was going on and when could we expect the DR. I was told the Dr was very busy, the staff was trying to get as many people through as possible , there was no way tell us when the Dr would be in. We had now been at the clinic for an hour and twenty five minutes - without having laid eyes on the Dr. I inquired if we should come back some other time and was told that wasn’t a good idea. The door was shut and we waited some more. At 1:26 we got up and left the clinic. We will not return. Bad form McDonald Eye Associates. Poor customer service. Over scheduling does no one any good.

I really like the doctors and staff knowledge but their customer service is lacking. Called and left a messages with Hillary in contacts- was to return my call when computer rebooted- no return call- went to office 2 hrs later and was told to wait while she finished charting. Writing this while I have been waiting for 20 minutes so far. Only wanted to pick up one sample contact until my latest order came in. My daughter also goes to same office and has had similar issues.

Worst health care [non]experience in memory. And at 71 years of age, I have plenty to choose from. At 100 minutes past the time of our initially scheduled appointment – my wife and I scheduled back-to-back appointments and planned to see the doctor together at the end – we ultimately left the premises without ever seeing Dr Mengarelli and with no idea or sense of when he might eventually appear. This is the first time I have felt compelled to simply walk like this. Similarly, this is the first time I have felt compelled to post a review. The preliminary steps of the appointment had been completed, and we were waiting together in the office where the doctor was to see us. After 40 minutes of sitting behind a closed door and hearing nothing from anyone, we looked out and snagged a staff person to see what was going on. She was unable to provide us with any information other than an overview of how Dr Mengarelli was very busy. We waited another 15 minutes before finally departing with no doctor in sight. I have two pieces of advice for Dr Mengarelli and McDonald Eye Associates management. (1) While Dr Mengarelli’s practice of spending as much time as necessary with each patient and answering all questions is certainly laudable, the scheduling protocols or parameters should reflect the realities of this approach. We heard that 23 patients were scheduled for him for that day. That was clearly too many. (2) Staff persons should be prepared to check in on patients periodically to let them know the status of their appointment and to answer related questions. This is simply a matter of respect on the part of management. We felt very disrespected and ignored in our little cubicle. Knowing there were four or five other patients also waiting but not knowing where we were in the queue, if there even was a queue, was not helpful. I will be seeing someone else somewhere else from here on out. Dr Mengarelli and McDonald Associates have set a very low bar. The person I choose should be able to easily leap it in a single bound.

I received LASIK (flap) by Dr. Betts. I just had my one day follow-up and am at 20/20. I am beating myself up that I didnt do this 15 years ago. Will, Lasik coordinator, walked me through every step and was amazing to work with from start to finish. Dr. Betts kept me calm and was so great during surgery. His whole team in the room were encouraging and talked me through everything. I had a lot of anxiety but they provided me with fidgets and verbal encouragement throughout. One day follow-up was a breeze. They are so thorough and made sure everything was healing correctly. They also ensure to be available for all followup care and questions. If you need glasses to function, do not come here for glasses. My first appointment was Aug. 26, I bought glasses and was given a trial for contacts and I couldnt see out of them. Its now Nov. 16, and I still dont have a prescription I can see out of from McDonald Eye Associates. They told me to come back in 2 weeks after I, Got used to the new prescription. Sure enough, I came back in because I could not see out of the new glasses and contacts. The second time I came in, I waited over an hour for my appointment, and STILL was not given a prescription. The doctor said to wait for new contact lenses to come in and to keep the glasses that I cant see out of. That was over 2 months ago, and Ive called them multiple times. The company had the gall to send me a new bill last week, even though I never received a proper prescription from them. I also STILL dont have contacts from them or a pair of glasses I can see out of because they never determined a prescription for me. I wish I could give them 0 stars.

A MEDICAL PROVIDERS PERSPECTIVE:My husband and I started looking into LASIK a Iittle over a year ago. We went to Vold Vision likely due to their superb marketing but dont be fooled by it. The process goes downhill once you pay them. We were under the impression that Dr. Vold was going to perform the surgery especially because they gave a glamorous presentation about him, and we met him. However, an important fact they left out is that, without your consent, a fellow could/would do it. They had my husband take his Valium as he walked to the back and lied that Dr. Vold was in the room (who wasnt) while having the fellow complete the procedure. By the way, Valiums time to peak is 15 mins-2.5 hours; so taking it as you walk into the room is not an adequate amount of time for it to work. Also, if his Valium was working having someone verbally consent to a different surgeon after drugging them up is consider unethical and bad medicine. We didnt get protective eyeware afterwards either as its not needed which it is. We expressed our grievances with the office manager the following day who apologized for the misunderstanding and promised a better experience next time but did not follow through.Today, I went to McDonalds Eye Associates after recommendations from several of my doctor and mid-level colleagues. Although I was told I didnt qualify for LASIK, I learned several important facts that strangely didnt cross my mind at Vold. McDonalds takes into consideration your medical history and does a very thorough screening. Vold told me I qualified for 2 procedures without asking anything about my medical history. McDonalds also asked a question (which I thought was odd at the time)...place an X on the line to specify if you are more easy going or are you more of perfectionist. I fall more on the perfectionist end of the line i.e. if I had LASIK, spent several thousand dollars out-of-pocket, and had to be in glasses again afterwards Id likely be upset. It was actually refreshing to know that they only perform surgeries on those they actually expect to do well afterwards. To summarize, I would NOT recommend Vold to any of my patients or colleagues. If you want an honest and thorough screening, please go to McDonalds Eye Associates.

Disclaimer: This review is based on private pay client services, I have no experience in how things are done for patients with Medicaid / Medicare coverage, I can only assume the worst you will have to do with government funded healthcare coverage would be to constantly bombard them with phone calls to get someone to answer and resolve your inquiry. Now that that is out of the way: tl;dr: go somewhere else, preferably where they do not leave out pertinent information regarding the potential aftermath of LASIK surgeries and hide behind the guise of, what you have now is better than what it used to be. There are better facilities out there, there must be.If you do choose to have a procedure done here, then I highly suggest you interrogate every aspect of your procedure until you have exhausted all variables, otherwise you will not find out about most post procedure issues, what treating those (if at all possible) would be like, the insanity it is trying to reach someone about issues at this facility at times, and how combative they can be about these touch ups, that they claim they will do if you are not satisfied with the level of correction you received through their LASIK program. On touch ups: What they will tell you is that they do touch ups if the correction is lacking in some places, but what they really mean is they will only do a touch up if the procedure was not successful by, I assume, some undisclosed percentage that they have apparently made up and keep in their own mind and only deem it worthy of sharing if someone wants a touch up done post procedure and they want to justify refusing that service. Otherwise they will either; A) just claim that they could overcorrect and damage your eyesight instead (more information that should have been expressed prior to even committing to the procedure). Or B) prescribe dry eye medication costing anywhere between $350-$500 depending on your insurance coverage that I cant help but wonder if they are getting kickbacks for considering there are insanely cheaper and apparently more effective alternatives on the market today.Or how follow up visits after 3 months post procedure will start costing you money; contrary again to the information that was initially provided, which was that follow ups are covered under your initial surgery cost with that little bit about the 3 months left out intentionally or otherwise. Strange how they always want to schedule you out 3 months later for a follow up.Or how you may end up sitting out in a car for 4 hours only to see everyone leaving the building and to go in to find out that your appointment was cancelled moments after you checked in at the front desk somehow.I could go on, really, I could. My whole intention is to make this point abundantly clear; you will get what you pay for, but make no mistake; value is subjective these days, and that value is subject to the service providers own perception of said value. Not your own.So I reiterate: go somewhere else, unless you want to brush up on your interrogation skills and want to roll the dice on what outcome you get. LASIK is not perfect, nowhere close, do not let anyone tell you otherwise. Or at the very least do not allow someone to, not disclose that information to you initially.About LASIK in general: would I do it again if given the chance? Yes, most likely. Would I do it here? No.

Not to mention, the assistant’s hostility and frustration grew by the minute because my 4 year old wasn’t acting up to his expectations. Well sorry Chris, he is ONLY 4 years old. If you don’t like your job, do the patients a favor and quit. If there were going to be a lot of “well I don’t know if this will work” or not having the proper things for a 4 year old and younger exam, they should have told me the minute I scheduled the appointment to take my son elsewhere. They bent over backwards to get me comfortable with cataract surgery, a truly miraculous and life changing event - no longer needing glasses after wearing them for 40 years. When my son wanted Lasik for a particular military role, they worked with the medical corps over 2 months to see if Lasik would help. It wouldnt have helped and they received no business from the effort, but did what was right. Recently, after a detached retina, they helped correct my eyesight back to 20/20, again a miracle! Of all the opticians, ophthalmologists and eye surgeons, Ive visited in NW Arkansas over the past 20 years, McDonald Eye is BY FAR the most caring, helpful and genuine in their service. Its surgery, so I wouldnt call it pleasant, but the discomfort was extremely mild. Dr. Coats made sure I was clear on all Post-Op instructions, and reiterated that the office was available at all times to answer any questions I may have during my recovery.I would definitely recommend McDonald Eye Associates if youre thinking about getting LASIK done!

I have been a patient of McDonald eye for about 3 years. Being in my 30s I had never really been to the eye doctor. I was very pleased with their service. They made me very comfortable and didnt judge me.

New pair of very expensive glasses not done properly. Better vision with old pair . Second year in a row when new glasses did not improve vision. Last year had to bring new pair back to have right lense reordered. Same problem this year. Will not return. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!

The staff was very warm and professional. I had an amazing pre operative evaluation with Dr Coates who answered all my questions. I was given clear expectations and answers and post operative instructions. The staff including Dr. Betts was very caring. Surgery was very comfortable and as expected. I am completely satisfied with my results! I had very minimal discomfort after the procedure and from day 1 was seeing better without my glasses or contacts. I would 100% do this again and highly recommend Dr Betts. His operative staff was amazing and very caring, talking me through every step. Cannot say enough!! Thank you!!

I had a really great experience with McDonald Eye Associates at their Fayetteville location. I just had my LASIK procedure on 6/8, amazing job! The staff was very professional, funny and caring. I definitely recommend them. Unfortunately I could only give them 5 stars because there is no 10 star option. Thank you for making me glasses/contact free!

I got LASIK here, and I very much regret it. I now deal with dry eyes every day of my life, and that was never an issue for me before getting LASIK.I did all of the post-care as instructed (wore the sunglasses, used the drops, etc), and I was really hoping the dry eyes would go away within a year after the surgery, as I guess it does for many people. Unfortunately, my surgery was over a year and a half ago, and it looks like Ill now have dry eyes for the rest of my life.If you dont think dry eyes is that big of a deal (which I understand -- I didnt think it was either before I had to deal with it), let me walk you through what having dry eyes is like. The very first thing I feel when I wake up in the morning is discomfort in my eyes. I try to keep my eyes shut until I get up to put my drops in because doing so makes them hurt less.As soon as I get up, I put in the prescription drops I currently have so that my eyes will stop hurting momentarily. I used to use Xiidra drops. I tried them for a few months, but they didnt help at all, beyond the initial relief of just putting any kind of drop in my eye provides. (This was confirmed by my eye doctor -- that my eyes were just as dry when I was using the Xiidra drops as they were when I wasnt).Im currently using Restasis drops. Last month, my pharmacist called when she was about to refill my Restasis drops to tell me that the co-pay on them went up to $200/month -- and thats WITH my health insurance. Luckily (I guess), the Restatis drops havent helped me any more than the Xiidra did, so at least I dont have any reason to keep paying for them.According to my eye doctor, those are really the only two prescription options a person with dry eyes has. If either of those work for you, theyre probably going to run you a couple hundred dollars a month. (Xiidra was not any cheaper than Restatis, unless your eye doctor happens to give you a coupon thing -- and even then, the coupon is only good for one year.) And those are the lucky people. If neither prescription works for you, youre stuck with over-the-counter-drops, which only provide relief for an hour or so. (The prescriptions are meant to fix your dry eyes. The over-the-counter drops are really only meant to make them feel better temporarily.)I buy Refresh Long-Lasting Hydration drops (the kind my eye doctor recommends) over the counter, and those run about $20/box. The cost of those is less an issue than making sure that I have them everywhere, at all times. I keep multiple boxes around my house, a box at work, and a bag of them in my purse. If I ever forget them or run out of them when I go out somewhere, boy do I pay for it.There are little things youd never think about that you have to deal with all the time. Going to a movie, for example -- keeping your eyes open and looking at a big, lit up screen for over an hour at a time is not super fun. I definitely have to take at least one bathroom break and awkwardly stand over the sink looking in the mirror of the public bathroom to put drops in, or my eyes just kill.On top of everything, my eye doctor at Mcdonald refuses to acknowledge that LASIK is responsible for my dry eyes now. She says things like, Well, youre female and you look at a monitor most of the day -- of course you have dry eyes. Right... but I was female and looked at a monitor most of the day before my surgery too, and this was never, ever, ever an issue. My dry eyes are seriously bad enough; having my doctor refuse to acknowledge that I got them AS A DIRECT RESULT OF GETTING LASIK THERE is almost too much to take.Believe it or not, Im not writing this to complain; Im writing this because I remember looking at the Google Reviews here when I was trying to decide whether or not I wanted to get LASIK. I *very* much wish I would have read a review like this then, so I hope I can at least provide this information for someone else.I would gladly pay the price of the surgery again if I could somehow undo it and get my eyes back to the way they used to be.
