I love the Y. I go there almost every day to take aqua classes and just to swim. The staff are really friendly as are the other members. You cant go wrong if you get a membership here.

The staff are 5 stars all the way, as is the pool.my husband and I take an aqua size class every Monday and the teacher is awesome and I there is usually only 6-12 people so its easy to get to know everyone and we all have a great time. We usually go 3 times a week with 2 of those being open swims. There are different times, age ranges, classes so there is always a time Monday through Friday to go. For anyone who loves to swim, but hates to exercise this is the best place to go...they also have exercise equipment. For anyone who has an injury or disability this is ABSOLUTELY the best exercise for you and the BEST place in our area to go! The only thing that keeps me from giving the Y 5 stars is because the locker room floors are in pretty bad shape, but for a nonprofit thats not so bad. SO...if there are any philanthropists out there looking for a worthy cause, heres your chance. The Y supports every age group and offers programs as well!!!

I had been a regular member of the YWCA for over ten years. I had used the pool week day they were open even when the water was only 80 and 82 degrees. Sometimes I was the only person in the pool. I use the pool for rehab for medical issues and need to be there first thing in the morning every morning in order to be a productive employee because of health issues. At a recent membership meeting we were told by the CEO that there would be no changes made to the schedule. I had attended this meeting because I was told that the Director of the pool was going to change the schedule from the 7-9 AM Open Swim to a Lap Swim time period. I do not do many laps when I am swimming therefor would not be able to use the pool during the 7-8 time frame that I have been going for over 10 years. I am very upset because even though we were assured that there was going to be no changes made to the schedule, the management has now decided to take the 7-8 hour on Tuesday and Thursdays and make it a Lap Swim time period therefore I will not be able to use the pool during that time frame. I was told that this is being done because complaints have been made that there are lappers who feel they are not welcome in the 7-9 Open Swim. I have been there everyday that the pool has been open and the lappers have come in during that time and done their laps. I was also told that the YWCA has 25000 visits a year to the pool and need to basically accommodate the majority. There are usually more non-lappers in the 7-8 AM time frame than there are lappers. Infact many times I have been the only person in the pool during that time frame. And of the 25000 visits to the pool, 350 of them are my visits, so how is changing the schedule for the few lappers who feel they are not welcome during this time period accommodating the majority of the visitors to the pool? When I made the statement that apparently my money is not worth as much as somebody who does laps, I was told that it was not about the money, that the Y had lost over $62000 last year on the pool. Another question I must ask is how can you loose over $62000 on the pool when a few years ago they had made a profit on the pool and there are more people going to the pool? If you do the numbers there are 25000 visitors to the pool a year and the fee for swimming is $3.00 a visit. That is is $75000 taken in from the use of the pool. Are you telling me that is costs more than $137000.00 to run the pool? Even if they only make $2.00 a visit that is still a cost of $112000. This change not only affects me but others who use the pool during that time because we have to be to work by 8:30 or 9:00 and cannot come in during another time. I am to the understanding that the Elmira YWCAs motto is Empowering Women. I am sorry this woman is no feeling very empowered because of this change the management has decided to take for a few people who feel not welcome.
