The general lack of compassion and patience among most office support staff at this hospital is astounding. Everybody does the bare minimum to help you. They run you around in circles and make you the middleman when you know they can resolve the issue(s) internally - these people all work in the same hospital! They cant call each other and get the information they need? Nah, thats not their job, right? Above and beyond is a thing of the past. And, really, this isnt even above and beyond stuff were talking about. Just common sense, common courtesy, and good customer service. These past couple of years have really helped exploit the entire healthcare industry for what it really is. What happened to this hospital?

Our ER experience was very frightening. Yes, it was very busy, however, it was very gross and unsanitary. Messy rooms, overflowing garbage cans, used medical supplies laying around. I do believe there may have been a shortage of staff but I questioned the competence of the staff which frightened me the most. The nursing staff seemed unsure on how to handle a trauma situation . Staff members should NOT be arguing with each other on how to bandage a patient in front of the patient. I don’t know who the blame should go to, the hospital or the pandemic shortage because either way this country is in trouble!

5 phone calls from May-July to get an appointment with a provider scheduled for for today, 9/28, and not only was the appointment cancelled an hour before it was scheduled and I was already in a car rental on my way there, but even though they cancelled and not me, the soonest they can get me rescheduled with any provider is 12 weeks from now (12/21). I get that life happens and people call off sick last moment occasionally but for Alexian AMITA to not have time slots available for when the providers cancel appointments is neglectful and dangerous to patients

This hospital has undercover Angels running around! I went in for a procedure yesterday and I have no idea why I was so worried and stressed but I couldnt help it. From registration all the way to Day surgery I felt sooo taking care of. The people in Day surgery were sooo wonderful, that Ive continually had such pleasant flash backs on all these kind gentle people. I wish I could remember and mention everyones name. I do remember my surgeon Dr. KUDER and his anesthesiologist Dr. MUZIC of course but everyone else that assisted them were just as important with why my experience was so pleasant. Thank all for bringing me so peace and making me feel safe!

It was a very bad experience in every aspect of our visit to the emergency room!! From the triage nurse at registration to the ER Doctor!! The only good thing about the visit was Branden and Rachel the RNs. Otherwise we were there waiting for 5-1/2 hours in the waiting room while my wife suffered with major headaches from extremely high blood pressure and another 4-1/2 hours in the ER room with not much going on. 1st I start with the staff were very pleasant. No as for the rest: our expairance was very confusing most of the time. It started in the ER. The patient had a EKG in the process of stroke protocol, during the ER stay we declined 4 more attempts to do a EKG. Finally the tech with the machine looking at the computer screen insisting that they could not find it, looked in the pile of EKG papers and found it. I should add this was over a 3 hour period before finally looking for the record. Staff would say a test was needed then other staff would say it was already done. Still trying to understand why 2 CT scans were done? We could see the condition on staff faces when looking at some of the records. No prompt communications, utilizing the comutors and Wi-Fi keeping all updated. A lot of miss steps reassembling a clown fire drill. Not a accurate resemblance for the professionals doing their jobs! This continued thru out the stay. The staff neurologist represented them selves as to having a office for visit telling us to make a follow up appointment to see them but they dont see patients because they are only hospital doctors, try making a appointment with doctor who doesnt have a patient office! The list of errors goes on and on! Overall care provided was good but a confusing expairanced.

No doctor from the ICU called me or any other family member to convey what the patients issues were or what the prognosis was.

This hospital was SUBPAR from the beginning .My Son had surgery scheduled and I arrived to pick him up at designated time only to find surgery had not even begun . He was still waiting for an operating room as if we were in a 3rd world country or something!I left and drove 30 minutes back home and was assured a nurse would call me to return once my son was in recovery . Hours went by for a 30 minute surgery and NO CALL. I decided to return to the hospital and was told “ yes he’s in recovery “. No explanation as to why no call to inform meand I was his contact person.)I then went to the desk for outpatient surgery as my son continued to text me asking where I am . NO ONE was at the desk to allow me back to recovery to see him ! I sat down and waited, NO ONE SHOWED , finally waited at the desk with another lady waiting to get in recovery to see her loved one ... NO ONE SHOWED . We finally had to knock on a door behind the desk to yell to 2 ladies to please find someone to allow us in.A lady FINALLY Slowly , and unapologetically meandered out ignoring other lady and I and proceeded to answer questions of a man who just approached the desk who’s wife wasn’t even OUT of surgery . I finally had to ask her to please help us as we had been waiting to get to our family in recovery . She slowly took the names, offered no apology for having left the desk unattended for such a long time and said they she didn’t see their names. She , called someone to find their whereabouts only to find when they were in the recovery room right there all along .The recovery nurse was nice but gave us Lots of info and responsibilities about calling pharmacies which is work nurses NORMALLY DO THEMSELVES .She also allowed my son to return home WITHOUT assuring his kidneys were functioning properly and he was able to go to the bathroom. He couldn’t and THEY STILL RELEASED HIM ANYWAY! I didn’t know this until we got home ! The nurse never even told him she had to be sure he could go before being released!!He got home ,bladder felt full and hadn’t had a release in 11 hours . We were about to take him to ER that night when he finally was able to go .The hospital absolutely REFUSED to cancel a pain prescription written for a pharmacy my son initially requested in that area before he realized he needed to stay at my home far from the hospital . We asked before discharge for them to change it . They told us to call and change it KNOWING patients have no authority to change a NARCOTIC prescription. My son went for days in writhing pain due to their REFUSAL to cancel that electronic pain prescription and resubmit to a pharmacy near my home. Finally I had to leave himAlone and drive BACK An hour to the pharmacy to get the prescription. This could have been avoided . The hospital staff receptionists answering service was ALWAYS rude as were many receptionists. The prescription fiasco went on 5 days and the hospital was uncaring and appeared to find pleasure in refusing to make the prescription change for us. It was a VERY stressful situation as my son was and still is in enormous pain.Twice the call backs from paging the doctor took well over AN HOUR! There were NUMEROUS unpleasant side effects from surgery that no one informed us of and no one did ANYTHING in the the way of being PROactive , but rather slowly reactive was the modus operandi there . This was in no way compassionate care and one pharmacist even asked WHY this hospital was giving us such a hard time over a prescription they could have EASILY Cancelled and resubmitted for my son!. In addition to his excruciating pain he was stressed extensively by this hospitals LACK of compassion and willingness to HELP make the process smoother . I in NO way recommend this hospital . They DO NOT CARE .This experience was a highly stressful experience and the hospital has the LOWEST standards of COMPASSION, customer service, professionalism and Work ethic Ive ever seen !Poor quality facility and staffing .

I will be going to AMITA one last time to gather my records...then RUN back to Northwestern.Edit: Changing my 1 star rating to 4 stars now that Ive calmed down a bit. Bottom line is... I had a heart attack and Dr. Samy saved my life and I really like the guy. Minus 1 star for the rather disproportionate abundance of snotty staff members throughout the facility and a feeling of disconnect between different departments and a smart-mouthed punk male nurse in ER whose fortunate I was having a heart attack at the time.I still will not be returning, however.

I asked for a blood test and they said no, my mother was mad because obviously they didn’t know what they were talking about. My grandmother was in for an endoscopy yesterday and it was horrible. We were there from 9:50am to 5:30pm. Her surgery was supposed to happen at 11:00am or 11:30am, but she didn’t go back for it until 1:30pm. Then, after I was told that the doctor would come to talk to me after her procedure (she had two separate ones) he never came. It wasn’t until 5:00pm, and talking to four separate nurses(no one knew where she was and blatantly ignored me) someone told me she was in the bathroom and would be ready to go. When I got back to see her she was NOT okay. She said when she asked to use the restroom that a nurse told her, “I can’t deal with you right now”, and threw a diaper at her. Talk about ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. None of the nurses I dealt with after her surgery were please take. I get that it’s late and you e been there all day, but you need to be nice, kind, and helpful to your patients. That’s the whole point of you being there and being a nurse. To TAKE CARE OF PEOPLE, not brush them off and be an awful human being. I’ve had many issues with this hospital and their staff before being completely rude to me and my family. I’ve talk to other people too and they HATE going here. I know I would rather die in an ambulance on my way to Northwest Community Hospital or Lutheran General than be taken to Alexian Brothers or their sister hospital St. Alexius. My Experience at Amita Health in Elk-Grove Village, ILMy experience at AMITA HEALTH in Elk-Grove village was one of the worst I ever had as a patient, and I have been around for a while, my age is 76.It left me EXTREMELY mentally stressed, unbalanced, physically exhausted and depressed. I am close to tears most of the time. I can only stay up 30 min before I am completely exhausted again. The treatment I received at AMITA in Elk Grove was inhumane. For example, I was left without any pain medication for hours on end with my pain rating 10 on a scale from 1-10. I informed the Charge Nurse in detail about the treatment I received and she is going to pass it on. One thing I can tell you now: NEVER AGAIN AMITA IN ELK GROVE.The resident Doctor gave the nurses clear instructions as to how my pain should be handled. I was supposed to be given Morphine and Norco every 4 hours and as needed should the pain become unbearable. This was never understood by the nurses and they dispensed my medication at will. I called at midnight and asked for some more pain medication. Answer: No Norco and then she hung up… without another word. Not only that, they played games with me, dangling Morphine in front of my face and saying: “That is what you want, isn’t it” – as if I am addicted to Morphine. The nurse didn’t wake me up for my morphine shot just because I was asleep she said. Excuse me?The patient rooms in Amita Health have no blinds. So the sun blasts into the patient rooms unhindered, there is no escape. The toilet bowel in my room was extremely low, that that my testicles hung in the water. My testicles are of normal size and I pity all those patients that had to put up with this dehumanizing and embarrassing situation.I practically had to BEG to have my bedsheets changed. I took them 4 days to do that and they were soiled because of my bowel problems. And only after I asked them repeatedly about 5 or 6 times. The room was overheated. When I asked the nurse to please turn down the heat, which was at 90, she said she had no idea how to do that. The bedsheets were so thin, that I was either shivering or freezing after taking medication or overheated when the effect of my medication wore off.Soft drinks were not available, so I got Chicago straight most of the time.It took up to 2 hours to even get a drink at all. Maybe that was the reason the toilet bowl were so low, so that patients can drink straight out of the toilet bowl.I was constipated for days, 4 days no bowel movement. I told the nurses, they just ignored it. I took 2 whole days until they brought me some red pill that didn’t do a thing.I now feel EXTREMELY mentally stressed, unbalanced and physically exhausted. I can only stay up 30 min before I am completely exhausted again. Again, I was left without any pain medication for hours on end in extreme pain rating 10 on the pain scale. I informed the Charge Nurse about the treatment I received and she is going to pass it on. One thing I can tell you: NEVER AGAIN AMITA IN ELK GROVE VILLAGE.This nursing department needs a shake-up. My room was like a torture chamber during the middle ages with those who tortured me taking delight in my suffering.A high 5 for Amita Elk Grove? More like a -0Ben PfrommPS I am going to paste this all over the Internet. People need to know what to expect at Amita in Elk-Grove.

*** Update***10/06/2020 Not only no response on my last post on Thursday there is STILL NO RESPONSE from the scheduling department!! Six days later and still waiting on a call from the scheduling department to get an MRI scheduled. All orders and Medicare approvals have been in thier hands since last Thursday. We have called back several times, spoke to actual people, gave them the information again and again and then told to hold on so they can check and mysteriously get disconnected. Today we got disconnected called back at 12:47pm got the option of call back within 3 hours and still waiting on that call its 10:40 pm. This is so unacceptable!!! Tomorrow we will see if we can go to Northwest Community Hospital for this test. Does anybody in that place care anymore? I would like to know where I can send them a bill for all the time I am sitting on hold or waiting for call backs. Maybe you should either hire more people or competent people!!10/01/2020 There are several departments in this hospital that have gone horribly downhill. Today my husband was on the phone waiting to schedule an MRI for 1 and 1/2 hours before getting disconnected. He even drove to the hospital while waiting on hold to see if he could schedule it in person. Of course nobody is physically there. When he called there was no option given for a callback. Now he called back (losing his place in line due to the disconnect) and was given the option of a callback. Lets see how long this takes.Next horrible department is the ER.My husband went in by ambulance September 9th. There was a nurse that took blood near an IV giving him fluids. We were given incorrect information stating he needed a blood transfusion and had me sign papers for a transfusion. Then a little bit later I noticed the same nurse taking more blood with no explanation. When I questioned why she was doing it, THEN she told us the blood MIGHT HAVE BEEN contaminated because she took it too close to IV, but she doubted it. But it turned out the blood WAS definitely contaminated. The shift changed and the most RUDE UNCARING male nurse took over. He acted like everything we asked was an issue and had rude remarks such as yeah I would like you to go to a room too after my husband asked when he would be going to his room. That was at 10:30 pm. The nurse or anyone never came in to check on him. Leaving him laying in the ER, until my husband used the call button at 2:30 am to ask again about going to a room and he said yeah I was just going to get to that. Then while taking him to his room the excuse he gave him was that he was wrestling with another patient. This guy should definitely get a new profession. This is not his first bad review!!We only use this ER because my husband has had a heart condition that requires him to come by ambulance to the ER and all his doctors (that we like and have confidence in) are associated with Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove. I really hope improvements will happen before either patients leave doctors or doctors leave this hospital. Its sad because the nurses on the floor(transitional floor) he was taken to were very good and very caring group. They took very good care of my husband and explained and talked to us about everything and anything we asked.Since the AMITA/Presence takeover the hospital has taken a downward turn. Even the Food Service is HORRIBLE. The food is inedible! Not a good thing when you have a patient that didnt eat for quite a period of time and that would be the first they touch.

This was the first time we were at this hospital. My husband was transferred here by ambulance from another hospital after he was in a bad car accident. We were very impressed with the care he received in ICU. Everyone was very attentive to his needs. They were caring and explained everything we needed to know. Amanda and Karina were especially AMAZING. If we lived closer this would be our hospital of choice. Thank you all for taking such good care of my loving guy.

I had a cardiologist appointment at 4:45 Friday the 6th. She said she thought I had atrial flutter with RVR. She said she wanted me to go to your ER and they were going to monitor me and see if they could get my heart rate down. Your person in reception put me down as “other” instead of as cardiac issues. And as such I sat for over an hour before seeing a nurse or anyone . Now I understand that you were slammed but when my DR. Sends orders and they don’t get followed things don’t work well. First, it is my feeling they didn’t follow her instructions, second your triage is sadly under equipped as I felt my heart start beating faster and asked if they had an oximeter but no they didn’t so they did another ekg. Then they drew blood and wasn’t very good at it as they had trouble getting a vein. I then sat for about 2 hrs and someone came and took me for a chest Xray. But never got results or even reason for it. Then was told we were waiting for results of blood tests and never got those either, after rasping my concerns was told the nurse would come and talk to me which never happened. I instructed my wife to call the doctor because my phone was going to die and the Dr on call instructed her to get 3 new prescriptions and get me out of there. Then I found out your staff informed my wife that they had installed an I V and were monitoring me in the waiting room, also not true. I understand that you are busy due to the pandemic but it is not fair to someone who is having issues with their heart to sit for hours without getting the care the doctor said was needed. This could have turned out very badly if my heart rate had gone any higher. Also I found it very wrong that so many people were in the waiting room with no way of social distancing. The screening being done at the door was very quick and vague. I did not feel comfortable and backed my wheelchair into a corner by a desk to get as far away from others as possible since I am at a higher risk of catching COVID. There are more issues however I think you should have gotten the point by now, you have a responsibility to the patient and the community and you failed both in an extreme way Friday night.

I was at Alexian Brothers for 26 days. I was in Emergency, Surgery, Intensive Care, and in hospital rooms. I received excellent care. Every day I came in contact with doctors, nurses, aides, technicians, food service, housekeeping, transportation people, and others. In a month, that comes to a few hundred people. I did not encounter a single person who wasnt efficient and compassionate. Thanks for the wonderful care!

I have used Alexian Brothers outpatient services here but have never been admitted as a patient. One of my doctors has an office in their building so, on occasion, my appointments are there. The doctor is great, but this review is about the Medical Center.I am sometimes a little troubled by the religious icons. However, I am tolerant and understand that is a key part of their mission. Their facilities are quite nice - since the last time I was there, they added a small food court in the lobby - a nice touch.I needed lab work. In the past, Ive waited a very long time as they get busy. This was also around lunch time. I went to the check-in desk and asked how long the wait was for the lab. She said there was no one ahead of me so I decided to get my lab work done while I was there. One of the reasons I dont typically get lab work done there and prefer to use my primary care doctors lab is the cost. The co-insurance for lab work done at the hospital is outrageous. I needed the tests done quickly and couldnt wait for an appointment to open at my doctors lab. I went through their lengthy check-in process, walked back to the lab, and was taken in within 5 minutes or so.I do like the service they provide there. As said above, their facilities are nice and clean. The staff seems very knowledgeable, helpful, and truly caring for their patients.

Take it from a nurse, RUN! Brandon was my nurse and he disregarded infection control, fall risk, pain management, communication and common decency. He was very unprofessional and left me without a call light for 45 minutes when I first arrived and failed to return it after coming back for diagnostics, had me walk to the bathroom though I had vertigo. He didnt alcohol swab my IV though he connected to it twice, injected medication incorrectly on my deltoid totally missing the center and causing over half an hour of pain so horrible it lit up my whole arm and all I could do was rock back and forth. He ignored my pain and then mocked me for the pain he caused. I had multiple injection sites from recent nerve blocks in two different body parts and NO ONE LOOKED AT MY SITES. Brandon also drew blood from an IV paramedics started even though other fluids and meds already went through this. When I worked AS A NURSE AT ABMC I knew that wasnt allowed. When I asked BRANDON TO SWAB MY IV HE REFUSED AND SAID THAT I HADNT HAD A CHANCE TO GET IT DIRTY YET. So I was in an ambulance and a bathroom and had multiple people touch me but Im still not entitled to infection control. This person deserves to be fired, no second chances. The things he did were not accidents, this was a choice! If you have a sepsis problems ABMC it might be, because of people like Brandon. I have a history of vertigo and have antivert in my medication history and when I told Brandon that I was nervous I would fall and thats why I had a current knee injury, his response was, dont tell me that, I dont want to have to walk with you. This person couldnt care less about anything at all that happened to me or how I felt. Im leaving photos of my survey here so you know Im a real patient. Honestly, Im disgusted.

MEDICAL MALPRACTICE.This ER hospital is the worst and I DO NOT recommend going here. I was there the other day with my father, it took about 2 hours to get a “doctor” to evaluate my dad. This “doctor” did nothing whatsoever to help his pain when you can clearly see that he was in terrible pain. Even the nurse personally told my father that she didn’t understand why that doctor didn’t give him stronger pain killers. While we were there, The ER “doctor” ran multiple tests on my dad, but couldn’t come to a conclusion on what was wrong with him because apparently there was nothing wrong with his test results. Therefore we had no choice but to go to another AMITA hospital since my father was STILL IN PAIN. The new doctor was able to pull up the results on the tests that the ER “doctor” ran and saw that there was results that my father had a bladder infection. Why did the ER “doctor” say that he didn’t have anything and didn’t know what was wrong if the results showed that he had an infection?! Worst of all, that ER “doctor” prescribed my father with the INCORRECT medicine which caused his infection to get WORSE and cause his bladder to swell up even more than it already was!? You should be ashamed to even call yourself a doctor. You aren’t doing your job, you aren’t helping people, you are making them feel worse. This is MEDICAL MALPRACTICE.

My mother was hospitalized and discharged To a rehab too early which resulted in a readmission in less than 10 hours. As a healthcare provider myself, I had voiced concerns to the primary nurse, the nurse administrator, and the physician. Despite my concerns, the hospitalist discharged my mother with a discharge summary that didn’t even corroborate with my mother’s physical assessment. Her discharge summary was literally either a bad cut and paste job or she just didn’t care to properly assess my mother.Examples:Lungs clear to auscultation - she actually was in fluid overload and had posterior cracklesPulses equal and strong - pedal pulses were thready and easily obliteratedExtremities 5/5 - she actually has paresis from a prior strokeHeart rate regular - she actually was in a new 1st degree heart block, at other times she was in a -fib.Despite new arrhythmia and hemodynamic instability and reports of blood in stool, there was neither a cardiac consult or a G.I. consult. Despite shortness of breath and abnormal labs, there were no orders for pulse oximetry or telemetry until she went unresponsive.I could go on but I’d rather spend my time warning you.I know my mother was sick, I understand the complications. The issue is that not a single person made any effort to avoid them until I spoke up and escalated my concerns.Imagine if you didn’t have someone doing this for you.Imagine if you were forced to trust that they were going to do the right thing. They will not.Neither nursing, case management, administration, nor the hospitalists represent any of the core AMITA values they claim on their website.Instead, my mother had a physician that was more concerned about making excuses for her oversight instead of providing good care, a nurse that was incapable of advocating, a case manager that could not call to keep me posted, and a patient experience liaison that has yet to return my call.It is a sad day to think that this is the care that my mom received only because I was reviewing her charts and reviewing her orders.I shudder to think of the people that do not have an advocate and are left to the mercy of the people that work there.Stay safe, don’t go there.

Basically, 6 wasted hours for nothing. Not even a prescription. It seems that if you dont come in by ambulance, you just sit and wait. With all the cubicles available, you would think they could take a patient who just walks in.

Each time I call, I am put on hold for a very long time, and then dont have the option to leave a voice message. The last time I called on 11/8/18, the call just dropped after waiting 20 minutes on hold. Check your emails and respond please.Original post:I signed up for a sleep study at AMITA and before I was even able to schedule, the study needed to be cleared by my insurance. When the AMITA Hospital representative contacted me, I clearly asked her multiple times, Will my insurance cover all the costs of this study?. The first time she sounded unsure and gave me a very generic answer of oh Im sure youre covered if the insurance approved it, so I asked again to make 100% sure that she should check to see how much of it was covered. She responded again, it is covered, then again I asked, Is it COMPLETELY 100% covered?, she responded yes. So I scheduled the appointment and did the study. Not more than 1 week later I get a bill for $1800 demonstrating that my insurance covered 70% and I owe the balance of $1800. It took me 3 weeks to hear from someone and they leave a message simply saying I owe them the full amount. It takes me another 2 weeks to get a hold of someone to speak with to dispute the charge. I wait another 2 weeks only to find out that the Hospital has determined I owe these costs... the same entity that charged me the costs in the first place. Another broken hospital organization that is OK lying to its customers about costs. Do not recommend, go to another service provider if you can.

This place is the stuff nightmares are made of. They did nothing but lie to our family from the moment we walked in the door. They treated my son like a dirt, kept the door to his ER room wide open so everyone could see him in his gown as they went past, they man handled him, were rude, inconsiderate and above incompetent in treating the mental health issue he willing went in to receive treatment for. Instead of helping him, they escalated all his problems then had him committed!!! After he came in with a bag packed, willing to go on his OWN! They stripped him of all dignity and his rights as a human being. They have ensured that he will never seek medical help for his mental issues ever again.DO NOT GO HERE!!!! You will never see a real Psychiatrist, which was what they kept telling us would happen each step.. it still has not. The staff between the two hospitals are totally confused as to the protocol at each, yet they pretend to act together. No one there can give you a straight answer. Your loved one will be incarcerated against their will and you will not be able to do a thing. The whole experience, which is still not over, has been a horrible nightmare that we are having trouble comprehending and processing. I am not the patient, but I walked away feeling completely violated, humiliated, used, abused and not listened to at all. I cant even imagine what my son is going through right now at their hands. Can you imagine having to leave a loved one in a place that lies and doesnt listen? How could you possibly trust them to CARE for them? They really do not know how to treat people with mental illness, they do know how to make it WORSE however. Stay away, stay far, far, away.

I had an anterior hip replacement this past Monday, February 12. The scheduler who called Friday told me surgery would be at 8:15 AM. We arrived at 6:00 AM. I found out later that my surgery was scheduled for 10 AM and I didnt need to arrive until 8:00 AM. The hospital had just gone live with a new computer system the day before. The nurses were all complaining that their training was last November and they had forgotten everything. My 10 AM surgery didnt start until Noon (because of the new computer system) and ended at around 2:00 PM. It took several hours to get up to a room. I was told that I would be walked or at least put in a chair that evening, but I was not. The nurse said she couldnt find anybody to help her and she couldnt do it alone. I was told to not let my pain go beyond a level 5 or 6 and yet when I asked for pain medication, it took them so long to order it using the new computer system, that my pain would be at a level 10 and I would be crying in pain, before it finally arrived. On top of the new computer system, their tube system wasnt working and they had to walk over to the pharmacy for every medication. Finally at 3:00 AM the nurse told me to sit on the edge of the bed and dangle my legs and that would make me feel better, but she had no help and couldnt let me stand or walk, or put me in a chair. At around 9:00 AM, a physical therapist and occupational therapist arrived at the same time and spent around 15 to 20 minutes walking me and said they were done - I could be released.I have been in other hospitals and had other major surgeries, but this was the worst experience I have ever had.

Alexian Brothers was the hospital I was born in, my daughter was also born here, I had my gallbladder removed in emergency surgery here and have been in for other health issues and they have always done a great job. This last visit on Easter Sunday is what really set them over the top. I now live in California, and came home with my daughter to visit family. On Easter my 3 year old was attacked by a 130lb dog. On my way to the ER I called ahead of time in a panic to be sure they would be prepared for us. The woman I spoke to on the phone was very quick with getting me to calm down and explain the situation, she assured me the staff would be ready for us, and right before hanging up she sweetly said maam, please be careful driving, luckily my brother was driving. When we pulled up to the ER doors there was a paramedic outside waiting, he actually was on his break but as soon as he saw us he grabbed my daughter and carried her and got us where we needed to be immediately. We were in a room right away, there were about 3-4 nurses in there and more coming in, but I think they saw that anymore would have just been in the way.I saw one nurse not too busy so I went to hand her my insurance card and she said to me Right now we do not care about the insurance information, we just care about your little girl. and instead of taking my card she went to tend to my daughter.Once cleaned up there was one nurse and one doctor working on giving her stitches, they were absolutely amazing. They kept me calm, as I was having a hard time not crying my eyes out seeing my child hurt. They did an even better job communicating with my 3 year old and letting her know she was going to be alright. Although my daughter was not a fan of getting her wounds cleaned or the stitches they did awesome with helping her understand why she needed to be good and let help her. They also had a great sense of humor when she would yell at them and give them dirty looks.Alexian Brothers was quick to handle the situation, the staff was super sweet and efficient with their job, and I will gladly recommend them to everyone I know.

I will never go back to the emergency room here. We took my almost 2 year old son here on Wednesday with dehydration, a high fever that had gone on for days, and a severe cough. We waited in the waiting room for about 3 hours before he was seen. He was incorrectly diagnosed with pneumonia, given a very small bag of fluids, and prescribed an antibiotic that he did not need before being pushed out looking pale and skeletal. The next day he was extremely lethargic and wheezing, struggling to breathe, so we brought him back. After waiting another 2 hours, we were brought to a nurse practitioner who said that we needed to wait for the antibiotic to work, his lethargy was normal for a kid battling pneumonia, and his wheezing was also normal for a kid battling pneumonia. They sent us home after giving him a popsicle. The next morning his fever was over 103, he was struggling to breathe, and he coughed constantly. We brought him straight to Lurie’s in Chicago where they were shocked by his condition and our treatment at Alexian Brothers. He was correctly diagnosed with RSV, a viral infection that they actually ran a test for and doesn’t require antibiotics. We’ve been here for 3 days while he’s received breathing treatments and IV fluids. Who knows what would have happened had we listened to the doctors in the Alexian Brothers ER? I’m supposed to give birth there in September, and I really need to find another hospital. Even his pediatrician told us to avoid Alexian Brothers for anything pediatric related. Do not go there.
