Update, 08/11/2021:Mom went off Meals on Wheels El Cajon, for about 8 months. We started back up 3 weeks ago. My Mom....93 year old, dementia, moderate, lives in a very nice Mobile Home in Santee. I come down every day from Pine Valley, get her up, moving, and feed breakfast. She is pretty much self care, with prompts & assist. **Meals on Wheels was one meal to be delivered for early dinner, they get there around noon.Logistics: I told the M.O.W admin folks mom is in the Mobile Home back bedroom and to knock hard. **She has NO hearing issues. This is double wide, thin walls.Problems with communication:Since re-start I have gotten a call from the lovely volunteers at least every other day. ( I dont care if they call me, I just feel bad they dont know how to bang on the door ) The volunteer is calling because mom is not answering door. I tell them yes she is there, just knock harder, they do, she hears them and gets her food. This is noted in her account, knock hard( Note: Everyday a new volunteer delivers for the most part according to Tim - El Cajon Manager ) So everyday the poor volunteer encounters the security screen door and they do not know how to knock hard, bang on it.***So today 12:01PM, another call from volunteer, mom not answering door, the volunteer calls Joann - a lady who works at the Meals on Wheels office, she calls me at my home in Pine Valley - I tell her, mom is home, just have the volunteer knock harder. Joann tells me the volunteer has already left, and food is with a neighbor.I explain to Joann, there is a security screen door, 1 frame, steel, and unless the volunteer knocks hard sound does get thru. I suggest volunteer use a shoe, or I can leave out a hammer, Joann gots offended by that ( use a shoe, or I can put out a hammer ) and puts me thru to Tim. ---> I talk to Tim..... My overall impression after talking to Tim: he is more concerned over volunteers feelings, and retention than delivery of food to seniors with cognitive disorders. What is so difficult about knocking hard? She can hear, she just can not move fast.**Tim suggests a wireless door bell, good idea, but another thing to confuse a dementia lady.****So I ended the delivery and feel honestly that the MESSAGE ON MOMS ACCOUNT TO KNOCK HARD, was never passed on to the delivery volunteers, who get out there in the heat of day to get food to seniors. Thank you to the hero food volunteers, but not so many thanks to Meals on Wheels El Cajon Admin. they seem a little detached, out of it, not concerned. I wonder if they leave their volunteers with that impression? Maybe that is why there is a retention problem. These are my opinions only & based on the last three weeks.********************************* Old Review: Meals on Wheels, El Cajon, CA: The best volunteers! My 92 year old mom, with cognitive impairment, just love the drivers / delivery ladies. The Area manager Tim is gracious, supportive, and caring - very needed when dealing with your mom, who is not all there anymore.Thank you All, sorry I do not say that more often. Stay well, and thank you for looking out for mom.

This is a team effort, everyone cares about you and takes time to check in on you. Volunteers donate their time to keep costs low.
