AFRICAN-AMERICAN BEWARE My daughter complained of SOB and angina so we took her to the ER. She was placed on a pulse ox and ignored for about an hour then discharged. THE ER DID NO DIAGNOSTICS ON HER AT ALL. I returned with her 2 hrs later, with the same symptoms. The ER doctor Charles David Springer walks in and concludes she doesnt look sick so, were just gonna send you back home. He outright refused to do any diagnostic testing. I asked about a chest Xray. He said her vitals look fine, he replied. No Im not gonna do that. So, I asked about an ABG he got and nasty attitude and said Im not ordering ANY testing shes going home. No walking pulse-ox. I then asked Dr. David Springer if he was aware of the CDC and FDA reports on Af-Am receiving false reads with the pulse-ox. That because he was refusing testing he could be releasing her to go home and develop a case of hypoxia. I asked did he even listen to her chest she said NO. Then he refuses to talk to me any further. He then tells her that he doesnt care what she does he isnt gonna do anything else for her. I feel as though UMMS has dropped the ball one too many times when it comes to patient centered, wholistic care. The staff lacks empathy which is one of their core supposedly one of their core values. My daughter was devalued, maltreated then discarded. She never even received the standard level of care based on her chief complaint.

This is only really a reflection on the outpatient group. I had a lumbar puncture and was quickly checked in and seen. The nurses in outpatient were all friendly and the doctor that performed the puncture was super friendly. After the procedure I was made as comfortable as possible and taken care of very well.

I checked in at 1940 and have been waiting to just be seen by a doctor or nurse for close to 5 hours it is now 0006. At 1030 I asked the triage nurse how much longer I do not know and that was all that I received during my 5 hours of waiting there was 8 patients waiting to be seen now there is 4 original patients left. I will be updating this through the entire vist to show the lack of organization in this hospital. UPDATE one of the original patients with me waiting 5 hours to be seen started vomiting and hacking and still received no help only was given a blue bag to throw up in. Still waiting 5 hours. UPDATE it is now going on 6 hours the only interaction we had was from the waiting secretary who was very rude and said that he would not turn on the TV. Another person went in to the triage nurse again I dont know. For over 6 hours we have no idea when we are going to be seen. UPDATE 7 hours still have not been seen another person has left the only interaction we got was someone bring out blankets. It has gotten so bad that we have not been seen that a woman I sleeping on the floor. This picture was taken at 0144 she has been here longer then I and still has not been seen. After 7 hours only 2 patients were admitted. UPDATE been waiting 8 hours now its is 0247 no one has come to check on us and no one has called. There is 4 of us sleeping on the couches. 3 of us have been here for 8 hours and one has been here for 4. Ive started to feel worse and my condition has made it so it hurts to walk I have not been offer a wheel chair and no on has updated my condition. UPDATE spoke to the secretary lied said I was only here for 7 hours and 40 min this is a lie man was very rude I asked him to let Cambridge hospital know I am coming and want to be seen. This has been the most appalling and disgusting experience. It is now 0322 and was never seen by anyone at the hospital here.

I was scheduled for a procedure on July 21, 2021. From the beginning of checking in to leaving the hospital on the following day, I must say that the level of care and compassion from everyone that i encountered was excellent. The entire staff was professional and did not make me feel rushed. They understood my anxiety and were very understanding. The Doctor that performed my surgery, (Dr. McCoy and his entire operating room staff went over and above to help me as they prepared me for surgery. They answered all my questions and explained everything that they were doing. They made sure my husband was informed when the surgery was completed and showed him where they were taking me post surgery. The nurses, aides, techs on the 4th floor were on their game. I had constant care and again, the level of compassion was outstanding. Even the nutrition department was pleasant. Going home, I was given detailed instructions and they made sure that I had all numbers needed in case I would encounter any problems. They arranged for my home care nurse and therapy and made sure my prescriptions were at the pharmacy of my choice. If I could give the entire staff that took care of me a rating of 10+ stars I certainly would. Thank you.

I arrived at 9 pm with a medical emergency, was given a room, and was not seen by a doctor until 2 am with no updates. Though the initial nurse was very kind, I was checked on only twice, needed a breast pump, other items for my dignity, and a glass of water and no one came so I quite literally drank from the sink. The call button is a joke, no one came and my nurse couldn’t be found later, and the next nurse said they must have gone with the wrong patient based on my need and thought it was me. I will never return to this hospital for any reason.

They simply would not tell me.I called another U of M facility and was told $150 to $300. Upon arrival I asked again how much? They would not give me a quote.I got the bill for over $1,400 !Wow! I checked around again. Nobody charges that amount anywhere. After all this was just a high school level consultation about the basics of diabetes! After 10 painful months I had the bill reduced.Still triple what it should cost. Everyone said that is what they charge. I had the Attorney General look into the bill.Next time Ill watch a video on You Tube.Be careful.

Let me start by saying my daughter and I had a wonderful experience in labor and delivery. Her midwife Jessica was awesome! Lab tech Kay is a great humorous soul with an incredibly welcoming kind smile. Nurse Tara knows her job and does it to perfection. But the stand out goes to nurse Stephanie. This hospital has a gem in this woman. She was absolutely amazing with my daughter. Kind. Knowledgeable. Explained everything going on. Answered any questions with knowledge and some humor. She is incredibly passionate about her job. Its her wheelhouse and you can tell she loves it. I could not be more happy with my daughters first experience with her first child. There needs to be more Stephanies in this field. I can only imagine what type of person she is outside of this scenario and Im sure she is beautiful. So I say thank you to the labor and delivery unit. Not one soul there was anything other than kind with smiles and humor. And made my daughter completely at ease. I was scheduled for a D&C hysteroscopy and another biopsy and was asked to come to the hospital at 12:15. I was taken to a very small room where I put on my hospital gown and my IV was inserted. I was told my surgery would be at 1:30 so I patiently waited until then. When 1:45 rolled around my doctor poked her head in and said she misspoke and my surgery would be another hour from then. That was bad enough news .. that meant she would have come back for me at least by 3 she finally came back to get me at 4 oclock and I was about to leave. I was very upset and started to cry. I hadnt eaten or had any thing to drink for 16 hours waiting for the surgery to happen. The nursing staff was very kind and try to keep me calm and informed. They also agreed that this was ridiculous. Supposedly there was an emergency and my doctor was repeatedly called away and it put all of her scheduled surgeries behind schedule. Why is she the only emergency room doctor on call? She was obviously already busy with surgeries all day and I blame the majority of this disastrous day on the emergency room staff coordinator. This was extremely unprofessional. I felt very unimportant and neglected. I got to the hospital at 12:15 and I didnt leave until 8 that night for a 40-minute surgery.

Update: As the result of my nothing short of traumatic experiences here, I have not returned to this hospital since I wrote this review two years ago. I bought my Dad back a couple of days ago. Much to my surprise, my experience in the ER was terrific! I stay with my Dad 24/7 while he is in the hospital since he is unable to advocate for himself. Therefore, I am his “Designated Support Person.” However, this evening I turned my Dad at 9pm. He was supposed to be turned by 11 (every 2 hours per hospital regulations.) I waited for someone to come in until 11:45 when I turned him myself. Figuring he of course would be turned, I decided to get some rest. I woke up a little before 4am to find out no one had turned him or emptied his catheter bag. I called the nurse’s station from my phone to have my Dad turned. The nurse and tech came in and did not even offer so much as an apology to my Dad or myself. Instead, we were met with an uncomfortable attitude and disposition. I asked to speak to the nurse manager who also initially was not helpful until I started asking for numbers. There is much more I could say about this particular experience, but I’ll end it here and file a formal complaint with the hospital’s board of directors and their licensing agency. For no patients or their family members should be made to feel like they are wrong for asking folks to do their jobs. This all could have been avoided with a simple, honest and sincere apology. SMH 🤦🏽‍♀️An educated consumer is not their best customer. Ask them no questions, they will tell you no lies. If you dont ask, they wont tell. They are so wrong in so many ways, too numerous to mention. Good at pulling the okie doke, back peddling, evading answering questions you ask, by deflecting and telling you about things you didnt ask.An educated person who knows their way around the system, asks and demands appropriate answers to questions, holds them accountable, etc. etc. is their worst nightmare.Human kind...human but not kind.God help you when you bring your elderly, medically frail loved one here.In bed with big Pharma? Upon discharge, my Dad had 2 hospital doctors prescribed nasal sprays that were practically full. My Dad was coming home via ambulance, so I spoke with several staff members who assured me that EVERYTHING would be packed up. Of course that did not happen. A call to the nurses station, just to confirm what I already knew; the medicines were discarded. But get this! Prescriptions had been called in to his pharmacy for the exact same medications. Things that make you say, Hmmm whats that about? How many times a day, a week, a month, a year does that happen? Who benefits? Who does it hurt?

Horrible experience. This is the worst hospital I have been in. My husband was brought here for a biopsy after finding he had cancer in his liver while in Chestertown Hospital. I had no idea who his doctor was. The doctors had no idea who he was or why he was there. They all use hositalists and these are just doctors who walk in a room. We asked one doctor (who we never saw again a question about his diagnosis and the doctor said he was only here to treat his pneumonia. No one told us he had pneumonia. In fact there was only one doctor we saw more than once. No one told us how sick my husband was. He had come to Chestertown Hospital about 1 week ago and we thought it was a heart problem. One doctor told us he had liver cancer which had metastised but they didnt know from where. The next day a doctor came in and sat with us after doing an endoscope and said there was cancer in his stomach and we should just him for for his last days. It is like a horror story. The nurses showed no compassion and gave us little attention and my husband wad dying. His backside was so raw he kept saying how it hurt. I turned him over and was horrified. He was so raw he was bleeding. He was not kept clean and I was the one who noticed a rash on his wrist which as hidden under three wrist tags and said it looked like shingles. The nurse said you dont get shingles on your wrist. Well it was shingles. They moved him to the cancer unit I assumed. The room, the entire floor was DIRTY and they still didnt keep hi clean. They discharged him on a Thursday after a trial treatment and had no idea where he was going. We were able to get him into a rehab that evening because Hospice became involved. The nurses or workers never even helped getting him dressed and out of bed. Nor did they ask about or care about transportation to the rehab. We never saw a doctor and no instructions were given. This was on Thursday Jan.4, 2018. He died in the rehab on Jan. 7, 2018 and we have yet to have a doctor contact us. I dont think I need to put y opinion down if you read this. I do want to say another thing. The nurses and staff were rude and uncaring. This experience from Chestertown Hospital to Easton Hospital was a nightmare I willnever get over. Completely insane. They then proceeded to blow out her vein trying to take blood samples, after she replied ow, it felt you blew the vein, the nurse simply told her no and that she was fine. The vein is now insanely bruised. At that point, I snapped and said we need to be somewhere else right now if we cant get attention immediately to which the nurse said okay, this is the last thing I need right now anywaysThe health of my wife is the most important thing in the world to me.This hospital thinks differently, that her health doesnt matter.

My father had a brain tumor removed at this hospital. As far as I know the brain surgeon did a really good job. But during his recovery the neurological wing was an actual nightmare and I feared for my dad to recover there. He shared a room with another man who from what I heard was in there for awhile. My dads roommate was moaning and in deep distress for hours. No nurse came in to check in with him until my mother stepped out to say something to a nurse. When my mom said something to the nurse the nurse just responded with oh hes always like that! and still didnt check in with him for another 2 hours! Basically once shift changed happened did someone see this man who was crying out and in so much pain. Once the new nurse came in she checked this mans diaper. Threw his pooped filled diaper in a regular trash can, didnt take the trash out until we said something. Lied to us saying she didnt throw the poop out in the trash. Even though we saw her do it. The man is still crying in pain and she dismisses it. 15 mins later the man has a stoke! I believe his lack of care could have attributed to him having a stroke. And my poor father is right next this man under the care of the same shitty nurses. I was scared to leave him alone. I had to remind the nurses to give my father his seizure meds. We trust these people to take care of our loved ones in the moments when theyre are most vulnerable. This place is dirty and Im not sure if the nurses lack care, have too many patients to do their jobs properly or what. I also watched the nurse throw wet naps covered in poop and pee on the floor so she could more effientaly clean her patient. I was so disturbed at the lack of safety and care that was happening here. Im happy my dad made it out ok. And I hope other people think twice before bringing their loved ones here. If your loved ones do come here I suggest you make as much time as possible to be there with them so you can make sure they get their medicine. That is absurd that one would need to do this but honestly this place is just a nightmare.

The HIPPA is bad I was triaged and I could read everyones name on the computer in the ER and why they were there. I was put in the psych area where the door has no way of being opened from the inside so when registration came the room next to me could hear everything. The room was not cleaned when they brought me back and I had to stand there and wait for the nurse to come clean it. The nurses are all just standing around laughing and no one has come to check on me. I have been waiting for over and hour and still no one has come, I am glad I am not passed out or not breathing because I dont think I would have been found. The room next to me the pt left a long time ago and the room still has not been cleaned. Next time I will take the drive to either Anne Arundel or PRMC.I was here a few weeks ago with a neighbor who fell who is in his 90s and was brought in by EMS and when I came back to sit with him they had him on a commode in a random room. He was having trouble breathing and when they took his vitals his heart rate was fast and there was no concern about getting him on a stretcher and doing an ekg and we had been there for over 30min. Not to mention it took them a while to get a stretcher when there was one outside the room and then we had to wait longer for the room to be cleaned. This guy should have been on a stretcher had an ekg and a cat scan done within 30min of his arrival being that he fell and hit his head and on certain meds that cause concern for bleeding. I can tell you I will not be returning to this Hospital for anything in the future.
