This is my second year visiting this campground and both times have been fantastic! The campground is nestled in a beautiful mountain canyon with great shade trees at all campsites. The owners and staff are amazing and very helpful and the grounds and bathhouse are well kept and very clean. There is a great pool and playground for the kids and a grassy dog park. The staff can point you to some stellar mountain biking, hiking, fishing and boating all within just a few miles of the campground. Located only 5 miles west of Durango I cant say enough about this place. Ill be back next year!

Great outdoor experience at this campground. The access to the area attractions were convenient. Park was well maintained with grassy areas, blacktop roads. Aspen and Pine growing up the mountain side with views!! Our site was large with privacy, big rig sites were closer to each other but still had privacy on patio side.. Beautiful pool! Staff very genuine and helpful, on the premises working. Hot spots for wifi near office and laundry, need a booster at site. Highly recommend park.

This is a great place to waste your money if you like loud, crowded spaces and no help, service or assistance. Management is nearly impossible to get a hold of and are absolutely willing to take your money and provide no assistance. My arrival was extremely confusing and no employees were around to assist. I was even insulted by the management in an email for not seeing the designated area for picking up my key. The campground was loud until 12pm and had children walking up into camp at 2am.I contacted the management to let them know of my disappointment and to request a refund for my last two nights as they claimed the campground to be quiet and comfortable. I was perfectly fine with paying a cleaning deposit and the night I stayed and was directly told that I would receive no refund, apology or assistance.Do not trust the management at this location. They purposefully have office hours of 3pm-7pm to avoid people and are virtually impossible to get a hold of when needed. They are absolutely okay with ripping off completely dissatisfied customers.Buyer beware.UPDATE: The campground owner has given me a no trespassing notice on top of not refunding my last two nights after leaving this review. Not only will they take your money, they will leave you with no place to stay.

My husband and I stayed here 3 nights with our small camper. Easy pull-through sites with full hookups. This campsite is located in a canyon with plenty of shade trees. It was very quiet and nice here. Staff were friendly. Bathrooms VERY clean! We liked that it was only a few minutes from Durango. Great motorcycle riding out here. They have laundry facilities, a dog run, playground, yard games, and a pool. We would definitely stay here again if were ever back in the area again! The only tiny complaint I have is the wifi didnt work. It had strong signal, just wouldnt connect. We couldnt figure it out but it wasnt a big deal not to have it because we still got 4g.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! We reserved a site over the phone. When we arrived, our campsite was small and cramped and the Lightner Creek was dry. The campsite next to us had a small camper covered with a tarp. Trash, food, large tupperware containers and old appliances littered the campsite. It looked as though someone had been living at that site for several months. Upon bringing it to the attention of the owners, they seemed to have no idea this was happening at their own campground. When offered another site at the campground, it was again small and did not offer many flat spots-not ideal for camping. We decided this was not the way we wanted to spend three nights. The owners refused to refund ANY of our money FOR THREE NIGHTS OF CAMPING, even though the campground was almost empty. This ordeal cost us $230. We will never come here again.

Good spot to camp only 10 min away from Durango. Super clean all around, our paperwork was ready when we arrived and everything worked as expected. As others mention, Verizon loses data signal about 400 ft before getting to the camp. It was disappointing for the kids, but actually a blessing, so they get off their electronics and play board games for a change. Overall pretty happy with the campground, will be back!

The only thing it has going for it is that it’s close to Durango. Sites are small and close. Staff is non existent. Not sure when they turn the heat on for the “heated pool” but it’s the end of July and it hasn’t happened. We paid extra to have a site overlooking the creek. That was very nice. It came with a gas grill, also very nice but so dirty we wouldn’t use it.I don’t think we would return.

My husband said one night one of the showers was messed up and when he went back the next evening the staff had already fixed it! There was a fenced park area for our kids to play, and the pool was clean and well kept. We will definitely stay here again if ever back in Durango.

This park was such a disappointment. We arrived to find no management on site. Our packet was posted on the front porch. The site signs are confusing and required us to remove our car because of tight turns and trees that are not trimmed throughout the park. They assigned us a space in the middle of two other 40’ RV’s. There was little space between each of us when our slides were out. We were told when making our reservations that there was a beautiful creek by our space. They did not mention that it was bone dry. Our days were full of wonderful adventures in and around Durango but our campsite was cramped and a big disappointment. There is no lawn/tree maintenance throughout the park. We also could not get cell service. There are other options available in surrounding area that I would highly recommend you consider.

This place was a headache right from the start. First off their camp office hours are 3-7 which makes getting in touch with them impossible. Called multiple times without a call back to change our reservation. They finally called back on the day we were supposed to check in at 5:30 and then said it was too late to change. Asked to change to the following day said there was no availability. When we arrived that following day (we were meeting people for the night) there were plenty of spaces open, which “wasn’t the case” the night prior. They said we could check in but when we asked to use our courtesy credit they said no it needed to be used next year in 2022 😂.If you want to do laundry after a day of hiking forget it it closes at 7 PM and you can only get quarters at 3 the next day when the office opens. The pool is so dirty and murky you can’t even see the bottom in the shallow end.Their dog also doesn’t follow the leash rules that all other dogs are expected to follow.Highly disappointed in the customer service, amenities and cleanliness of this campground.

This was the worst RV park we have ever been to. Half of the restrooms and showers were closed, The creek that they brag about was a dry creek, The sites were very close to each other, The pool was green, There was no internet at all unless you went to the office, The resort overall is not maintained well and is in bad condition. If you read this review do yourself a favor and read the owners response to my orginal review. The owner clearly lies about the resort. We were crammed in site 66 ( So Called Upper End)and the restrooms had a sign posted closed for the season. Keep in mind we were there in July/August of this year. This RV park would be great for tent campers but nothing more. If you camp here prepare for a real disappointment.

If you plan on taking a family vacation and if you enjoy sitting outside to breathe the fresh mountain air after the temps finally drop, and your family likes to sit around and have a conversation DO NOT COME HERE! Two campers complained that we were too loud during quiet hours. When Camp Karen (management) called me in the morning to let us know about the complaints, I asked her to clarify “quiet hours”. She proceeded to tell us that if other campers could hear us, we could not talk outside. This is impossible considering that our neighbor was two arm lengths away. She threatened that if we were unable to follow those rules, we would be asked to leave. About 30 minutes after that conversation, Camp Karen drove up and demanded payment for an extra vehicle that was parked in our spot. Mind you, the vehicle she was referring to was no longer parked there. The vehicle belonged to our friends who were part of Fiesta Days Rodeo and had driven in to say good morning and pick up a breakfast burrito. Regardless of there being no extra vehicle at the time of this conversation, she insisted on payment for the vehicle. I refused and she asked us to leave within the next 5 minutes. She obviously does not own a camper trailer herself. Now comes the worst part. My son and my daughter in law, who I haven’t seen in months, had travelled with their trailer to meet us. They arrived to their own spot at Lightner Creek late, the night before all of this happened. We had barely had a chance to eat breakfast together. As my son and daughter in law helped us pack up our trailer, manager lady Karen comes back and asked them to leave as well. At this point, they had not even been at the campground for 12 hours. They had slept there and woken up for breakfast. They had no complaints against them at their campsite and were no part of any discussion with Karen at this point. We were fortunate enough to find another campsite but my son was not as lucky which forced them to head home, for absolutely no reason. We are a family that travels to the lake with our boat and to the mountains to camp, ski and UTV trail ride. We have stayed at various campgrounds, Airbnb’s, hotels, cabins, etc. NEVER HAVE I EVER had an experience such as this and I am writing this in hopes that no one else would have to endure this.

A headache from the beginning! Immediately upon check in we are notified that the power will be out for 5 hours during the day on one of the days we are staying from 9am - 1pm with it being over 90 degrees that day. Then I needed to use the laundry mat. Hours posted state it’s open 3pm - 7pm. So I show up at 3pm and it’s locked. So I try to go to the office and that’s closed. Office hours are 3pm - 7pm (worst hours I’ve ever heard of). When I come back about an hour later the laundry mat is open but packed and two of the four dryers are out of order. Great! This place has been a complete nightmare and I would never recommend that someone stay here.

I was told “this is their home first, if your dog is aggressive you should board them”My dog is old and just wants to be left alone. My dog is not aggressive. Plus, the heated pool, not heat super cold, that was another disappointment. The cpgrounds had so many rules, dont do this, dont do that. Not once did we see staff, thier customer service needs lots of improvement! For the amount of money we paid for two nights, we should of had all that was advertised on the website. If there was a 4.5 option, I would have given it that rating. We called before our arrival as we knew we were coming in around 9 pm and our paperwork was there waiting for us with directions to our site and information about the grounds. Lightner creek was a great location and place to stay. In late July, the part of creek was still flowing and the kids loved it. Our space came with a lunch bench, a separate 4 person metal table and bbq that sat on a wooden built out patio overlooking the creek. Hook ups were all in good condition and easy to use. During our stay, quiet hours were enforced and we heard nothing but the creek in the background as we went to sleep. Overall site is beautiful and maintained. The reason for the 4 was for a couple of fixes that are easy to update/upgrade. The WIFI is only available at the office. We are working from the road and also have two young kids that are not of age to be left to watch themselves in the RV, so online access site wide would’ve helped. Plus, it would have been nice to be able to connect Netflix or Apple TV from our space for our family movie nights. There isn’t the ability to have an open wood fire which is appreciated by us while we camp. The locations map hasn’t been updated with the current placement of trash bins. I didn’t mind having to walk the trash up the hill to the front cans, but when I was asked for my parking decal to prove that I was camping there, it was a little disappointing that the trash cans that were supposed to be closer to the sites were not there. We would love to stay here again and hope the site takes into consideration some or all of the updates/upgrades.

Nicely wooded and secluded campground, nestled in a box canyon, so little to no cell service. Would have been nice to know in advance that wifi access was only available at the office and dog park. I would have given this campground a higher rating of not for our campsite. DO NOT LET THEM RENT YOU SITE 26! Honestly, if they rent site 26 in the future, they should give campers the option to take the site or go somewhere else. Our site (26) was right next to the communal garbage dump, two large industrial bins with heavy, bear-proof lids. 24/7 we would hear the lids clanking closed. At least twice when the cans got overloaded, the campsite brought out their backhoe to compact the garbage. Not only did we deal with the noise, but also the occasional stench when the temperatures rose and the cans were left open. Did I mention we were next to the RV dump station too? As wooded as our site was, it should not be rented. Yes, we could have asked to be moved, but coming in a pop-up camper, its a pain (and 1+ hours) to put up and take for short stays.

The bees that invaded our area made it almost impossible to eat out or even sit out. But the things that upset me the most were the broken facilities. Some of the men’s toilets and showers didn’t work making lines to get in. Same for women’s. 2 of the 4 washers didn’t work and 2 of the 4 dryers. Dog park is big enough for very small dogs, no room for our labs to run. Also no cell service, you have to go to the office to use their hotspot and sit outside at the picnic table. We also rented a cabin and was not told when I reserved it that it had no electricity or AC and it was over 90 degrees every day.

Tucked away, yet close to town. We enjoyed our stay. The creek running through the camp was great for the kids. As a side note, the rules prohibit hammocks, or anything attached to the trees. The golf carts of justice will descend upon you quickly for violations like this. :)

This is a beautiful hidden gem. This is family owned. I love supporting family owned businesses. Full hookups at reasonable rates. Tress, cliffs and a creek. Who can ask for more?

Nice place, had to battle raccoons, but comes with the territory. My only wish is that there were closer facilities to our site, and that there wasnt sharp gravel to set up camp on. The sites are also a bit on the small side, otherwise, very nice place.

Beautiful park did not feel like family though had to provide site number to get code to bathroom pointing at it wasn’t good enough. Got the feeling they get a lot of squatters. Not my problem.

We came here for the fourth of July weekend, my wife and I stayed in a tent site, I dont recommend staying in a tent site. You are very close to other campers and the sites are small, off to the side of the property. Site could have been cleared of weeds and other debris. If you needed to use the wifi you wont be within range at the tent sites. Only two of the 3 sites have direct access to the creek from the tent sites. THE GOOD; The staff was super friendly and respectful, they had small events for kids, very kid friendly environment. This camp is more set up for RVs/ fifthwheel campers. No fires in the campground, and they mean it!

I am retired and a full time RVer and have stayed at RV parks all across the US. This is one of the nicest, friendliest and most peaceful RV park that I have ever seen. Grounds are immaculate, clean restrooms and a beautiful river running through it. Friendly staff and conveniently located. So nice that I didnt want to leave.

Place smelt really bad! No cell signal and terrible wifi. The a/c in our room didnt work at all. The good views were not enough to save this place. Wouldnt recommend unless bringing your own trailer or tent.

This was a very nice rv park nestled in a box canyon, with a pretty, clear mountain stream running through the park. All of the employees here were friendly and helpful. We spent two nights in a travel trailer and wished wed had more time to spend, it was such a pleasant place to spend a couple of days!

We are full time RVers and had the great fortune to spend 16 days here in April - May 2018. The family who owns and runs this park are just outstanding. They care so much about their guests and are constantly working on keeping the park in top shape. They are also amazingly kind. We love Durango and the Lightner Creek Campground is the best place to stay. It is in a quiet and lovely location, but only minutes to town. The size of the site is great and you are not on top of your neighbors. We have a 41.5 ft toy hauler and had no trouble getting in or out of our site or the park. Everything is CLEAN! This is truly one of our favorite spots and we look forward to coming back here over the years.

Terrible. Absolutely terrible. If I could give less than a 1 star rating, I would. We arrived at this camp ground after about 10 hours of driving to only find out that our spots that reserved since April weren’t together with the other family we traveled with. Camp hosts were nice and helpful but yet the actual office staff was rude, disrespectful and didn’t try to do anything to help us. Also, If you are if any Latino decent or race, DO NOT STAY HERE. If you are looking for good customer service, this is not the place for you. This place needs to get new employees and new owners. Too bad the service and office people was terrible because it’s in such a beautiful part of Durango.Updated 7/1/2019: Just got a response from the owner,(Posted a picture of what they said at the bottom of the updated review) and its Inaccurate information! Take it from us, DONT STAY HERE. Actually, there is more friendly campground on the other side of Durango. They are more accommodating, friendly, and frankly, its a NICER PARK!To the owner/ manager... We know the full story, and we are very sorry you have the type of management you have. It would have been better costumer service if you could offer assistance on how you could have made our stay better rather than pointing a finger and using some in accurate information to back up your story. Location is great! Someone built an RV Park in the side of a mountain. Good space between sites and a creek running through the park.

I called to check for tent site availability...they said they had one on the creek and one not. Would you like to upgrade for $5 more to be next to the creek? With an excited, promising tone. Well, the creek is dry, dry, dry. I walked across it to get to the bathroom. I understand seasonal creeks of course, but maybe they should inform the upgrade is to be next to a weedy rock ditch not a creek. Also we have a very small tent and car that we had to squeeze and maneuver to get to work. Total costs were $43! I think thats pretty high for a tent site (no elect or water or water in the creek haha). Not returning!

A peaceful, quiet off the main highway campground with friendly staff. Great spots, very shady sites and clean bathhouses. Highly recommended. Short drive to Durango and easy drive to Mesa Verda National Park. ❤️’d it.

Stayed here while traveling back to NM from Colorado. They had a drop in policy for late night campers which allowed us to stay past hours on a drop box policy. Our tent was by a beautiful brooke which made the scenery and sounds absolutely perfect. Clean showers and bathroom, laundry, pool, playground, pet park, strong wifi hotspot on site. Clean grounds but very crowded! So privacy was lacking!! Lots of rules but to be expected to run this type of establishment. Would stay again!
