Genesis Health Clubs - South Suburban location is a great workout gym for me!The cardio room has great machines such as treadmills, stair stepping machines, rowers, and bikes. The only thing I would change is to have more windows.The weight room has a very wide variety of assisted machines and free weights as well. I do like assisted dip machines which they do not have.They have a pool, basketball court, and workout classes as well. I do wish they had racket ball available.Overall, Im extremely happy with this gym!

Half of the lights in the pool area are not working. The shower nozzle for the largest bathroom in the pool area was broken. The shower area’s need a deep cleaning. Nasty looking. The pool itself is great. Nice warm, clean water.

I really love the caliber of all the instructors. I have to, however, especially give kudos to Kris Warren. She truly cares about us and you can tell it is not just a job with her. Her water classes hit every muscle, are never boring, good intensity and she warns us constantly about what NOT to do to not injure ourselves. I feel so safe in her classes since she is a lifeguard and she closely watches all of us and, therefore, would know if we were in any kind of bad situation immediately. She is happy, fun, encouraging and makes it such an enjoyable experience. To me, she IS Genesis. I do not know of one person who is not totally happy with her teaching. Shes a very big reason why I come to Genesis faithfully and why I have told so many people they need to join. I would not know of one area I would suggest in improvement. Shes really got it all.

Good employees. Pretty clean. A bit pricey. Basketball hoops have broken nets for a pricey gym is kind of odd. The gym floor is also a bit slippery. Classes in the gym have the speakers too loud. Good gym equipment. Edit: it’s been almost a week since they replied to my review saying they were going to fix the basketball noise and address the noise. Neither have been fixed…

I love this place! Equipment is organized, well maintained, and cleaned after every use. The classes they offer are my favorite part of my membership. Body pump is great for building strength of all types as well as building ones confidence. Working out in a group is the best!

Love my classes at this gym!! From aqua aerobics, Silver Sneakers (light aerobics/stretch & balance), to chair yoga, they are all wonderful classes that I can DO! (sometimes I have to modify because of physical limitations) but that is totally acceptable 😜. I really enjoy my mornings with my knowledgeable & enthusiastic instructors; Kris, Kim, the other Kim, Shellie & Katelyn!! Come join us.

Lets make this clear. I am not a member. Yesterday I stopped in to get some information about cost, amenities etc. I was greeted at the counter by a young man and a woman who was stuffing her face with chips and couldnt even talk to me. The young man told me one of their other people was just finishing up with someone else, and would be available soon. After gulping down the chips, the woman handed me a computer tablet and asked me, with overwhelming chip breath, that I needed to fill out this form as a liability waiver. The tablet program was not very user friendly and clunky to use. I filled out name address and phone number, but there were a lot of other fields to fill out. At the point of filling in name, address and phone number, the woman asked to take a photo copy of my ID.That was it! Im done here. I didnt need to sit down with a fast talking salesman, give my entire lifes history, let a stranger make a copy of my ID and deal with overpowering chip breath just to get some simple information.Ill be content to stay with the gym Ive been going to.

I absolutely love the water classes. Our instructor Kris is the best! Very motivating, very personal, and I always look forward to her classes! Kaitlyn is also amazing and so great to have!!

Kris W is the best instructor ever!! I attend her barre class and her aqua classes. If it wasn’t for her I would not be at this gym. She gives us a great workout every single time. I highly recommend all of her classes.

The classes are very useful. I attend water classes 5 days a week. My favorite instructor is Kris Warren. The Silver Sneaker classes are great!

My sign up was super easy. The tour was quick and informative. Jacob made me feel super comfortable and excited to start my journey. I’m excited to be here.Facility is clean, they are practicing covid social distancing

I love the water aerobics classes with Kris on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Her workouts are well planned and enjoyable.

The employees and people at this gym are awesome! Chris is an amazing trainer! I was never really a gym guy but working out here has been a great.

Staff is polite and energetic. Place is always clean.

This is the place to be if you want to get in shape and have fun doing it! My kids love the pool and made lots of friends in Kids Club. My trainer, Chris, is awesome to work with and has given me the results I needed to regain my confidence.

The reviews posted on this gym are not current at all. This is the absolute worst Genesis in Des Moines. The machines are always broken because they are so old because they are so old, they are difficult to adjust & the carpet smells like mold. They keep promising us a new gym but two years after its moved into this location still nothing

Been going to genesis for several years now! Love the staff Cassi and Jon are absolutely fantastic such nice people that always make me feel welcome and ready to go! Always a joy to see when I go in. Super nice people and a great facility they keep it nice and clean :)

Group classes are the best! If you want any class or program to be successful, it is imperative to hire the best instructors. Kris Warren backs up that theory!!! The only reason I am a Genesis member is because Kris is the aqua instructor. I have also taken land classes from Kim Ubben—she is delightful! I stepped out of my comfort zone and am now taking Zumba class with Cassie. Love it!!! When your new facility is ready, I sure hope you are able to hire these three ladies. “You build it, employ Kris, Kim, Cassie and we will follow.” Classes provide the opportunity to meet new people and make some awesome friends.

Staff here is awesome! Abe helped us out with a specific problem recently and I must say... Amazing rapport and overall awesome customer service and interaction. Gym might be old but the equipment is definitely there if you’re ready to hit the gym. I can see why some people would say other things but it’s temporary and the staff goes out of their way on all occasions with my wife and I to accommodate and help out! 5 stars!

Needed a gym since I recently moved back to Iowa and they were very nice and helpful with the membership and a few friends of mine recommended genesis glad I signed up

This location is quite run down. I was told yesterday that they are moving this location into the old Sears in southridge mall but they havent start construction yet. They also said construction will take a minimum of one year to complete.

Clean, nice set up. If you have been in a gym, you have been in them all.

I thought it was a lovely gym with everything that you need I was taken on a well explained tour by one of their best advisors I think his name was Jacob. Needless to say I will be getting a membership here.

We have always had a great experience at Genesis and especially when dealing with Abe. He is always courteous and quick to respond!!

Staff is great (none of this is theyre fault) , but this is supposed to be a temporary location (wish Genesis would have stayed in the prior building) till the new location was ready . This building is very outdated and the carpet floors look dirty (weight room and bathrooms especially).The weighted plates and most equipment is in bad shape they shouldve got rid of most of the ymcas weight machines , also members were told it might take over a year for the new building. I hope Genesis can make this building alot better (major makeover) meantime especially the main weight room.Alot of the serious members have left or switched gyms. Most members were shocked to see this downgrade in quality. The old building wasnt great either but this place makes it look way better. I hope Genesis makes right with the Southside of DSM way before 1-2 yrs.
