I went to Decatur General while out of town and from the moment of walking through the door, the staff was amazingly courteous. The receptionist, Ella, was extremely helpful and immediately put me at ease. I met a very friendly nurse who calmed my fears and gave me some encouraging words before I was escorted to Labor & Delivery. And then I met Nora. She has to be the most friendliest nurse I have ever encountered. Her spirit is so calming and immediately made me feel comfortable during a time I was a ball of nerves. If I could come back to Decatur to deliver my baby just to have Nora as my nurse, I would ☺️. Thank you Decatur General for giving me such a wonderful experience.

This hospital was a good one years ago,but when my dad had to stay there a while on two different visits after being told he had pancreatic cancer was terrible! The people in charge of helping him get clean & use the bathroom had no respect for him! What dignity he had left they took! My dad was a veteran & this is how he got treated! He even fell in the bathroom due to the nurse never coming to his aid when he used the call button! Also was made to wait for pain meds! He was dying & they yreayed him like this !! He died this year on August. 21st.

Incompetence!!! I’ve only visited twice, and both times I’ve had issues with billing. The first time was a workers comp claim, and they didn’t correctly file it, so it was a headache I was dealing with for almost a year. The second time was NOT a workers comp claim… guess what it was filed as… WORKERS COMP 🤣 Even though I paid my insurance copay? How does that make any sense? Then I call people to try to resolve this issue. What do I deal with? The absolute rudest people. One woman kept saying, “We have 50 seconds left in this conversation” every single time I tried to speak!!! Apparently we really didn’t only have 50 seconds, though since she kept saying that. I will NEVER visit this place again.

I am writing this review on behalf of my fiancee because his arm is broken. He came into your ER from a injury to his arm due to a tire exploding on him. He had several exrays and was told it was NOT broken and was sent home with naproxen for pain. He spent the weekend in severe pain thinking it wasnt broken because the ER doctor said it was a contusion. Well Monday he went to a orthopedic doctor and it is broken! Seriously this hospital is a joke. My recommendation is to go somewhere else.

NEVER AGAIN! I recently got sent there because I had a seizure at work, I sat in the waiting room for about an hour or two, once I finally got put in a room, I sat for another half hour for the nurse to come in, check on me, and get my blood samples. I told her I was dehydrated and she even noticed that one of my veins was flat, so she had to stick me twice... she left and never did a THING about that fact that I was dry as a bone!! She left the needle in my arm incase they needed to use it again, and the blood pressure cup squeezed so tight it felt like my arm would fall off. I sat there for another two hours for the doctor to come in and he just told me to take a CT scan, after I got that done, I waited another two hours just to get the results... on the paper he gave me, it stated that the report was finished and signed 20 minutes after I had gotten the scan... so WHY DID IT TAKE TWO HOURS FOR SOMEONE TO BRING IT TO ME?? All the nurses were just sitting around and chatting while I was lying there with a massive headache and throwing up whatever bit of liquid was in my system... I couldn’t get help because the remote they had for me was sitting far away from me and I couldn’t reach it because I was strapped to the systems! The needle in my arm was also causing my arm so much pain and I was at the point of crying! After I got my results, I had to wait another half hour to get my paper work and get everything off of me to be sent home. OH, and did I mention parking in the ER parking lot was $5??? I ended up being sent home feeling 10x worse than I was before!! Three days later and I’m still throwing up and feeling horrible. And not to mention that they didn’t even send a referral to the neurologist that Dr. Ho told me to go to, and they won’t see me unless they got a referral from the doctor themselves... I’d rather sit at home with a gunshot wound than visit this place again!

The love the care, the support they showed me and gave me went beyond what is expected of a health care provider. I absolutely, positively love each and everyone of them. They helped me through a very dangerous and painful experience with positive reassurance every day. I love you all from doctors, nurses, transport, housekeeping, lab, surgery. I visited the ER worried that I might have COVID. Instead of taking the necessary precautions, the staff treated me like I was inconveniencing them. I was made to wait in the waiting area for three hours, despite there being hardly anyone there. I was told that I would be sent to a room as soon as they cleaned one; however, that never happened. I was taken to one room to be swabbed for tests and then sent back to the waiting area. I was taken back to get an x-ray and then sent back to the waiting area. After more than two hours, I finally asked the nurse if I could go home and if someone would call me to give me my results. She seemed bothered and said, I guess I can stay late to get your paperwork together. Except she didnt stay late. After another 30 minutes, another nurse finally called my name to discharge me. She gave me two Tylenol and two prescriptions. Worst experience I have ever had at a hospital. I understand that people can have bad days at work, but I certainly expected them to take more precautions, especially not knowing if I had Covid-19.

I took my husband to the ER yesterday (3-9-21) because he was experiencing severe abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting (He does have a previously diagnosed hernia that has been verified other healthcare providers). My husband does not like going to the doctor/ER. I had to beg/force him to go seek medical treatment last night.During our visit, we had 3 different nurses (What about continuity of care??) and saw the nurse practitioner (for less than 5 minutes). They gave him something for the nausea anda light pain reliever. Then ran labs and did a CAT scan. When the CRNP finally came back in after the CAT scan, she told him that there was nothing wrong and to just follow up with his regular doctor. WHAT?? This is a person who was laying there hurting to the point of tears and she didnt even try to find a cause for it!! He was just dismissed and sent home. I have had to take him to the Decatur Morgan ER a couple of times over the last couple of years, and each time he has been treated like he did not matter! These are healthcare providers!! They should at the very least make the patient feel like their health is important to them!! This is the worst excuse for an ER!

My roommate just tested positive for COVID today. Since I had been around my family recently, I knew that it was pertinent that I get tested as soon as possible for the sake of my family. However, even after I told the front desk that my roommate has COVID they told me that they wouldn’t test me just because I wasn’t showing any symptoms yet. I explained to them how dire the situation was and that I didn’t have the money to go to a walk-in clinic and they still turned me away. Zero!! NEVER take a loved one to this hospital! First, the DMH admissions clerk used the imaging center form (with name only) to admit. We were never asked for id or proof of insurance. Second, he was left in the ER with minimal treatment and no food for 26-28 hours. Third, since he was connected to an iv we request several times but refused assistance to a toilet. We opened every container in the ER room cabinet so he could relieve himself. After stacking containers of urine on bedside the ER staff ignored the stack of urine. Still not offering to take him to the toilet or remove the stack of urine from bedside. Forth, multiple pictures were taken showing 8-10 ER staffers at the counter NOT helping us.Fifth, a nurse took a blood sample but spilled blood all over the bed and my husband’s clothes. Six, after 26 hours (or so) a financial clerk informed us that we were not insured. We are medically insured but no hospital staff ever asked. I believe my husband was left unattended because DMH believed we were uninsured. Finally, after a call to the hospital administration my husband was moved to a room for a weeklong stay. My husband was instructed to go to the ER immediately with a potentially a life-threatening condition and was not taken care of. DMH is worst emergency room! See below, where DMH asked us to contact them regarding issues. We have talked to the hospital many (many) times and all efforts were frustrating and fruitless. Even after revealing we had pictures of them standing around NOT assisting my husband. DMH is not hearing us and will not hear you either. Please do not go to this hospital.

If I could give it less stars - I would. If you have a elderly loved one go to another ER. It was the definition of Elder Abuse. A 92 year old sat in a wheelchair for 9 hours in the waiting room without a drink of water and when I asked for incontinent supplies I was treated very rudely. When we finally got a room we stayed in there another 4 hours. I had to find the doctor in the hallway and BEG to be released before he would see her. We left worse than we came in. So a total of 13 hours is beyond ridiculous. I am a nurse with 24 years of experience and I have never been treated so poorly.

4hrs in ER patient rm. Not bad.But...never spoke to, saw, or was told a physician was involved in my care. Just nurses. Not even a Physicians Assistant...whom I have come to respect. Very disappointed, DMH.1 star because the nurses, others (front desk, triage, etc.) and the imaging dept were nice and did their jobs well. I was pleasant with them. They made me feel they were doing all they were allowed. Which was limited. No more stars because I came to have a physicians education, experience and knowledge at work for me. If I had wanted the attendance of nurse or two? I have nurse friends for this.I have always had a battery of tests at ERs for my conditions. Esp labs because of my blood disease. No. Just imaging. Went home feeling worse. Waste of time and $.I left knowing I did not get an ER treatment...by a physician. I guess DMH will charge me the same as if a physician was attending me (?) ...will see.Never going back. Grade D ER. Never again.

The boy finally got up and limped out while the ladies continued to laugh and think it was a joke. They told me when my husband was in a room I could go back with him and I said that’s fine when they finally told me he was in a room they said I couldn’t go back because he had to be in isolation. Thats fine and all but the blonde haired thicker lady who was at the desk at 4 told me that I had to leave and go home. So I went and brought him back a charger under the impression he was having to stay. I left and then I get a phone call they have discharged him and won’t let him wait in the waiting room until I get there he had no ride and they made him stand outside with no jacket or anything on and he was already sick coughing his head off and had passed out a few hours before. When he asked the lady if he would wait in the waiting room she told him no. I know legally y’all should not have discharged him without his ride and it was very unprofessional.

Was triaged and met with a doctors student who seemed too eager and caused me a great deal of uncomfortable feelings. He almost got punched for being a bit rough with my already aching feet. Never got a room for 3hrs and by the 3rd hour a Nurse practioner said they wanted to draw blood and a urine sample. I asked for what? Its feet pain. This hospital is notorious for creating bills for unneeded work. I declined and decided to go to another hospital. You are better off to drive to Huntsville than deal with this place. I went in for a food poisoning case in the middle of the night and just needed something to help control the vomiting. This was in December of 2017. I was in the hospital less than 30 minutes after having to constantly refuse x-rays and all sorts of other ridiculous tests that do nothing but run up a huge bill. That being said, I still received an $1800.00 bill from the ER Doctor himself. I fought with his representative for months trying to get an itemized bill showing me what exactly he did that would cost that. (He gave me one pill and then a prescription for the next day. He wasnt even in the room for 5 minutes.) After 3-4 months of trying to get an itemized bill from them, I never received anything....not even a follow-up bill. In April I again spoke with Island Medical (ER Doctors Representative) to which the representative had no records of my balance. I asked over and over for confirmation that there was no balance. Could not get anything mailed to me. Now, fast forward a year, and I just got a letter from a collection company saying that Island Medical needed money and they had turned it over to them to deal with. Now yes, I know this particular issue has to do with the ER Doctor himself more-so than the hospital, but this is still ridiculous. The hospital needs to get their doctors and their billing under control and not make targets out of the people that come to them for help. Bottom line....if I have any choice over the matter, I will not return to Decatur-Morgan Hospital.

I have different experiences with the Decatur Morgan hospital but the most recent takes the cake. I go in for 2 bulging discs and a deteriorating disc; I was admitted within 40 minutes then take nearly 2hrs before a nurse sees me, then leaves me thriving in pain for another period of time without pain meds the almost the entire time. Unbelievable!!!

I seriously dont understand how this can even be called an ER área isnt it suppose to be quick service? Thats why its called emergency room? I came in with my dad weve been here numerous times because its the closest only because of that every time were in here its a 2 -3 hour wait like seriously is their only one nurse and one doctor workingUpdate: 03-21-19 I brought my mother in for severe flu in the er and the lady that took my mothers signals (blood pressure etc.) The young lady with the piercing in her nose and braids was so rude to us my mother is very sick and to be treated like that made me angry its like she thinks the service is going to be free what a bad service I brought mom here since parkway is more incompetent and moms doctor was out of town and the urgent care would just sent us here anyway. But moms nurse was polite. Thats the only good thing about this place.

If I could give them a zero, I would. If I could give them a negative 5 star, I would do it in a heartbeat. Speaking of heartbeats, there are doctors here that are trying to talk patients into giving theirs up! Talking patients into DNR orders is inhumane and disgusting! The worst part is, the doctors, the incoming primary care, theyre all in on it! The nurses seem to be kind, however, and thats their saving grace. But other than that, STAY CLEAR!

My Sister in law was brought in by ambulance with a 6 1/2 to 7 cut across her forehead from a fall. We ended up spending 7 hours there, which is totally fine because she was being treated the entire time with arteries in her head spurting blood that had to be stopped before it could be stitched. Chris done an Amazing job on her stitches. Dr. Phillips was wonderful, explained everything very thoroughly. Caitlin, the CNA was Awesome as well as the RN Kathy. The only complaint I have is when we were finally able to see her, about 3 hours after arriving because of the massive bleeding the receptionist came in the examination room and asked if we were going to take care of her co-pay at the time. I was irate, we had sit there 3 hours wondering what was going on and we finally got to see her and this happens. She had more than ample time to ask while we were sitting in front of her, not come in the patients room while they are laying there with her Skull exposed and her asking for money. Help us God

Great experience. Dr Figh was on call and saw me promptly. I came through the ER and everyone was professional with great bedside manners. I spoke with Dr Cook first before Dr Figh. Great communicators that made me feel comfortable. The nurses I had for 4 days were fantastic!! Kudos to the charge nurse. The process was seemless and each nurse displayed great pride in their work.

Worst ER visit ever. I was in the waiting area for 5 hours for stomach pain and finally was brought into the treatment room which I waited another hour to be seen by a poor bedside manner doctor. Dr. Alhaddad was arrogant and said to me “you don’t know what you are talking about” and told me to stop pretending to be in pain. After he took xray of me, he didn’t tell me what’s wrong with me until 2 hours later and during this whole time, I didn’t get any fluid or pain medication. It was nurse Sonia who came in and told me I have pseudoobstruction.

I have had a very pleasant experience with all the staff at this hospital while preparing for surgery. I think as patients we need to buck up a little bit. This is not a McD’s type of service. It requires patience, clear communication and if we don’t understand it is on us to clarify. How much of a nanny state do all you whiners want? Nobody wants to be a patient, it is stressful, sickness and pain. So how about you just take a step back and oh I don’t know stop getting all butt hurt because these professionals would rather provide the best care without all of your stupid drama. Team ‘Murrica

The worst excuse for an emergency room doctor & staff! Very rude and unprofessional. The doctor & nurses are more concerned with making jokes about patients and family members wearing masks to protect themselves from gettinv sick, than they are the welfare of the patient. Pathetic

Pathetic! 7 hours just to have someone look at a small cut!?! Management should separate the important victims and the minor injuries so as to not waste the staff or patients time, So that they can focus on the more important tramas

I went to the ER hoping to get the glass out of my hand after getting injured & Dr.Thomas Lockerd was the physician who treated me & I must say I am VERY UNSATISFIED with him!! He gave me four shots in my hand to numb it to remind me the glass. He only got ONE piece out & I told him there was more in therei~i could feel it! He said if there was that I would have to come back & have surgery! I feel like he was just being lazy because the glass is still in my hand & I am unable to use my hand!! He put 2 stiches in it & now the skin has grown up over the glass& my fingers are numb & I still can not move them!

I recently had a family member there in a semi-private room. The person in the other bed needed to go to the bathroom. I went on a hunt for someone to come in. Nurse was on the phone and tech was sitting beside her and did not acknowledge I was there until I said HELLO. I told her the lady needed to potty and she said someone will be in there. 10 min later someone showed up. Then she was left on a bedpan for an hour. She finally asked me to empty it, which I did. I went to find a nurse to let them know the tech had not been in there. At some point during this I had to ask the tech to empty the foley cath on my family member because it was about to overflow. On top of all of that I had to spend the night and the only chairs in the room were straight back chairs and they told me the comfy chairs were on the 2nd floor, which might have been nice if we were on the 2nd floor. AND...I needed to work but couldnt, because their wifi was having problems and they would have to put in a work order but it would be Monday before they were able to have anything done about it. The following night there was a respiratory therapist that came in to give a breathing treatment wearing perfume (no joke. She even told the patient in the other bed what kind it was). And to top the cake, there was a HIPAA violation that I brought to the charge nurses attention who didnt seem concerned at all until I asked for the House Supervisor, who then actually listened, witnessed the violation, and was concerned (rightfully so).Never again...

To be as honest as possible-The ER Doctor tried the catheterize meWhen there was no need. The doctors had no communication with each other . The gentlemanin the bed was crying in pain all night for 4 day the doctor could not treat his blood clots and his testicals were as big as a melon . The doctors told him to go home and in three months the swelling would go down , WOW His family then got him down to UAB and that evening he called me with joy and they had a plan the next day he was having surgery and the somehow would bust up the clots and trap them through a filter and about a week recovery and he should be able to walk ! Meanwhile for me they had no clue my back hurt bad and my legs would not work I went on to Vanderbilt were they found out my hip was displaced and was trapping parts of my spine ! well in a few short weeks Ill be on my feet in the mean time there trying to figure how this happened .IFyi my wifes brother had gone there 5 years ago and within a week he ended up with a blood disease , he never fully got 100% he past away from an blot clot to his brainRest in piece BOSo even though the nurse staff was good the rest was NOT !Good luck to you all and I pray you never have got to go to this place

They gave me a Norco 7.5 and a shot of Rocephen. I dunno why I got the shot cauz they accessed my port and then did nothing with it. Horrible hospital. Ill go to UAB from now on every since Huntsville bought them the care and staff have gone down tremendously.
