As I sit here in pain I literally would rather just die! Being the main VA hospital in Atlanta, these people do NOT care about patients! The phone systems are in adequate, they dont provide aid or care for people in a timely manner or at all, their customer service skills are non existent, like the list can go on. Even in the event of an emergency situation you will not be seen, or in my case even have your vitals checked until youve waited 1-2.5 Hours, with adequate staffing, and minimal patients in the waiting room. At this point these people come to work to sit in their desk chairs, and collect a 9-5 paycheck! Not to help people, like they should be!

After almost 3 days of Hospital stay and testing, I couldnt stomach the nasty attitudes of the new face of doctors, comprised of South Asian people and Nigerians that now represent the VA. They always respond with smart-aleck remarks to seemingly get under the skin of anyone outside of their pedigree. It is fact that the VA made a big mistake replacing American-bred employees with these crafty people. These people seem to know they got a good deal and whatever they do it cant be taken away from them. At this time.

The VA on Clairmont Road is done. I see they have either hired or allowing vagrants from the Gateway Center to run rampant throughout their property, purporting to be nurses taking blood pressure measurements and pricking fingers while laughing it up. I have never seen so many questionable people man positions at this place. Watch out for the YAKUB look alike. Hes a greeter in a red jacket. For years he and his crew haunted the streets of downtown Atlanta. Strangely, they all work at this facility now with a close connection to the nurses on the 7th floor and also Pharmacy. He was known on the streets for illegally distributing prescription pills. Now he and his crew have been here for God knows how long.

This review deserves a novel, but I will try to keep it short. This hospital is the the epicenter for overpaid, incompetent, government employees. All of the staff only have two modes of operation, either lackadaisical or disrespectful; most of the time they operate in both modes at the same time. For extra fun, you could try calling their phone center, where the main goal is to get you off the phone and stick you in another phone queue, so that they can go back to the personal conversation they were having with their colleague.I would be amiss if I didnt call out special attention the African American, male, triage nurse I encountered in the ER. During my four hour visit, I often observed him sitting in his office, snacking on a large bag of chips, while his two other colleagues took care of most of the patients. If he needed something from his other colleagues he simply barged right in to their offices without even bothering to knock. The patients that he did take care of never received any mobility assistance from him either, even if they were in wheelchairs. He simply called their names and then walked straight back to his office...I ended up loosing him in my wheelchair and had to have his office pointed out to me. In his office, he used a mask and a face shield which made him barely understandable; to make matters worse he had a very loud industrial sized hepa air filtration system sitting right next to the door. Obviously, a special request just for himself, so that he could be protected from all of the dirty patients he had to encounter everyday. It makes me very sad to see my fellow veterans treated the way I saw them treated in this facility. The only bright spot about the entire facility is the welcome staff at the front entrance , very helpful and energetic; Im guessing they are just unpaid volunteers.

This place is really trash just as everyone else has basically said. They prescribed medication for 7 days and told me PT would reach out to make my appointment. PT reaches out 8 days later and says I cant be seen for 2 months and then gets rude and hangs up on me when I ask if there is any way I can get a refill for my prescription since it will be such a long wait to be seen. I call the pharmacy and they direct me to the emergency room to speak with the doctor, the ER person tells me I cant request a Refill over the phone and would have to come back in and wait 6 hrs to be seen just for medication refill. It is absolutely absurd

By far the WORST VA facility I’ve ever been to. It takes anywhere from 12+ hours for URGENT care and primary physicians are a complete joke. Facility is totally unsanitary, dirty linens, blood on the floor and chair in the room I was in, needle caps and gauze laying around utterly disgusting. Truly despise this place and am happy that I reside close to other hospitals that actually know how to care for patients.

I took my husband to the Atlanta VA emergency room for care on 05/03/2021. This was the worst care I have ever seen! We arrived at 7:35am. My husband still had not seen a doctor at 2:30pm. The nurse wanted him to sign the discharge papers before he had sign a doctor! We had to insist on the doctor Speaking with my husband. The staff was entirely unprofessional. No one introduced themselves or gave a title! They were not able to read the X-rays, due to no radiologists was there, but they prescribed him Pain pills and muscle relaxers! I came in for a COVID test at 12:45 and did see a doctor until 2:30 only for him to confirm my name and info and he told me that someone would be in to conduct the test. Well after sitting in the room for over an hour still waiting I went out to ask what’s taking so long only to find nurses gathered talking about another nurse I assume behind his or her back. After I interrupted their conversation only one turned towards me only to say it’s going to be a little bit longer. So I went back to wait in the room only for 2 more hours to pass without anyone coming to say what was going on. This is a terrible way to treat anyone let alone Vets. I seen elderly have to stand for hours and staff acted bothered when they would ask what’s going on. I wasted 5 hours today in the VA only to give up and walk out. After leaving with no test but 5 hours wasted I never even received a phone call. I came from the VA in Asheville, NC and I will drive 6 hours round trip to be treated with respect and served in a timely fashion. This VA Hospital needs to be torn down and rebuild by staff or those in charge. No one should be treated the way I was today and this was my first impression on this hospital and no way will I give up what I receive in Asheville compared to what I saw and witnessed today.

This wasn’t too bad compared to other va offices I’ve been too. The doctors and admin were very pleasant and treated me with the best intentions.I’m not to thrilled with the waiting times but it seems too many of the va medical centers that I’ve had the pleasure of being seen at have them. It’s just like being on active duty. Hurry up and wait comes to mind. Bring books and stuff to keep you at least busy if you’ve got to wait.

I ve visited the VAMC emergency room on 06/06/2021 weeks prior I had a port placement to receive chemo, a port is basically a tubing device that runs from the main jugular vein of the neck, to the heart. this was placed by VA surgeons. I had some healing issues, and wasnt feeling well for days chills, lethargy and no appetite. My incision had opened, my family insisted I go have myself checked out, we arrived at the VA main door where we were temp and covid screened prior to entry. I and my family member had no fever and were allowed to go to the emergency area, I was greeted and promptly checked in about 4 PM. I was triaged within 30 mins after. While waiting to be seen I noticed one doctor and two residents, a few nurses on duty . The waiting room had about 10 other patients waiting . There was a somewhat noisy patient demanding pain medication in which the doctor on duty was trying to calm , until he was called away for a cardiac arrest patient that just arrived. I patiently waited about two hours until I was taken to a treatment room. I was seen by nurses Ilsa and Brian, they were pleasant and recorded my issues, vitals. They took blood and culture tests. I stayed in the room for hours waiting on tests results, during which the nurses would check on me an offer water, I also overheard the patient across the hall being given water and food due to he was a diabetic and hadnt eaten. I waited a little longer and the nurses mention they during my wait had received two possible cardiac patients and three possible stroke patients and apologized for my wait time. I waited until about 9:30 when I met the nice doctor that I had seen earlier calming the noisy patient when I arrived, I noticed he looked very tired, yet he took time to explain to me about my test results which were negative for blood poisoning and gave me further care instructions for discharge. The discharge took almost another hour. I was satisfied and relieved with this visit. The emergency room was short staffed but they got the job done in a timely manner better than or equal to any other public hospital time in my opinion. My second visit was on 06/14/2021 I returned to the emergency a week later with further concerns about my port incision, this time when I and a family member arrived I had a high fever of over 104 and they, let me enter but not my family member. I was escorted to the emergency area via a back hallway. I was checked in promptly, and triaged within 10-15 minutes of waiting. I waited another 30 minutes and taken to a treatment room where my issues and vitals were taken by a very nice and patient nurse. she quickly yet painlessly hooked up my IV. and tookblood and cultures. The Iv fluids were cold which prompted more bathroom visits which didnt want to bother the busy nurses, then they put me at ease saying they were there for us Vets and thanked me for my service, which was repeated by all staff. I spoke to 2 different attending doctors on this occasion. They were both outstanding doctors, they explained what they expected and the testing results were thoroughly. I remember Dr. Odimaku from Moorhouse being one of the doctors, I remembered his name because I was admitted that night and while on the floor his name was mentioned and he also checked on me while I was an inpatient. To sum up my visits, I believe all healthcare workers from staff to doctors, work hard especially in the emergency room like everywhere else they have heavy patient loads, less staff, resources and supplies to deal with that ever so demanding load, and sometimes not all model patients to deal with as well. In my opinion during my visits I can say they met and sometimes above my expectations for care. Keep in mind sometimes we as patients set the mood of the services we receive, and all of us will have different opinions when we sit down and write these reviews most being written when were upset, it would be refreshing to see more when were satisfied as well. Thanks for reading this long story and, to our all medical workers!

This place is a complete joke. Not one person speaks proper English, but a bunch of ignorant Ebonics. They are more interested in socializing and “watching their shows” then caring for patients. I would need to write a book to explain everything that went down during my experience here. They actually drew blood and threw it on a tray without a label and when I walked by the room 2 hours later, it was still lying there unlabeled. There’s more. So much more. This place was fantastic!, I had an appt here at 10am, sadly the parking is horrible, but they are doing something about it as we speak! I went around trying to park for 45 minutes, but this is not the staffs fault, I came in late at 10:15am and they were able to still accommodate me! the doctors here are fantastic and caring and everyone is always so helpful to guide you where ever you need to go. People have to understand there is a lot happening here and you are going to wait, they are trying their best!

Yes this facility like most VA Medical Center is overwhelmed with veterans. For my experience here so far I think a four star rating is more appropriate. Like most hospitals, there are isolated and unfortunate incidents that take place. The staff that served me are very caring and professional staff. The nurses went out of their way to make sure I understood why they asked me their questions and I understood my health concerns and what to expect. The pharmacy tech personally came and explained why it will be a longer wait for my meds. Also, the doctor saw me in a reasonable amount of time and came 3 times so far to make sure I’m being taken care of. So if it’s warranted, I will update my review but I think the staff here truly do their best to care for everyone.

Respectful staff except in the board evaluation department. I have been fighting with getting a power scooter for several years now every time I appeal they turn me down in every Walker that they send me brakes just like the one they sent me one week ago just broke all the time they sent me these Walkers they could have gave me a power chair and been done with it this type of situations Drive veterans especially the ones I spoke to and depression and oppression and ultimately suicide because they dont get the proper attention care and concern thats needed , another lady that had not as much at all severe of issues that I have yeah they gave her power chair for having a hurt wrist and I have multiple issues its really upsetting The restrooms need closer attention to detail. Very Dusty fire spriklers

I would give them a negative star if optional. 3 hrs on the phone today (6/7/19) (and still waiting) to be transferred to another department just to renew eligibility for an appointment. Cant wait to see how long it takes to actually schedule an appointment. This was only after the website would not let me schedule the appointment on line. It has been 10 years since I called the last time and now I know why I just go to my own doctor with my own insurance.update: spoke to eligibility and they apologized they couldnt help and instructed to call the general appointment line. well when they answered they said AGAIN my local clinic cant receive patients to call another number for the Marietta clinic. well 3 calls to that number and when they pick up the phone (after being on hold for 20-30 min each time) it disconnects. I guess Im back to seeing my own doctor with my own insuranceI will say everyone I have spoken to has been very polite and understanding but thats probably because I have laughed with them opposed to yelling at them about how stupid this is.9/5/2019 finally got a person to answer the phone appointment in Marietta is set for 10/22/19 lol. This is just to see a primary care so they can refer me to another doctor. This to so long I called back to get a burial plot the lady said couldn’t do it until I died I laughed and said by the time they scheduled it I would be dead of old age. We both laughed !!!

Dont die at this hospital. My Dad said dont take me there. Staff is who know. Go to a actual medical facility and let the VA know where you are. Likely they wont pay the bill, but that doesnt trump poor care. Its unfortunate. Everytime I go to this hospital, patient care isnt a priority. Killing Veterans. Sad.

How can this hospital have an overall rating of 3.1 when most of the reviews you read are 1 star and many of those people would like to give it a no star ? I am experiencing a process that is similar to what these reviews are pinpointing. Mine has been dealing with those allowed to run a division specifically designed to help veterans, passing me to another named individual who either has a full mailbox or, their extension is a bogus number, if you can receive an extension number. Try to get back in touch with the person who passed you along. You wont be able to. In reading these reviews, I know the desperation they feel. They signed up for the military, received inferior pay in comparison to the civilian market, but many had a compassion to serve, and as a perk maybe benefit using a VA hospital for care in the future. These veterans served in the place of the vast majority of civilians who kept from serving in the military for one reason or another. Because they say to veterans, thank you for your service, thats good enough to show us appreciation for us filling in for them. With these complaints continuing, and terrible issues ongoing, are the politicians, willing to fund money for hiring and providing the proper care for these veterans ? Until their elected. They are the biggest veteran supporters in order to get our vote, then cut a budget for veteran care in the name of if the other programs set up for civilians, because if they do not get our taxpayer dollars their failure will cause the rest of the country to fail. If the veterans who served our country didnt serve you wouldnt have the opportunity to decide who gets the money. Because of the decisions elected politicians make, and the lack of interest most civilians have, the country has failed in the commitment made to the military, convincing us to take their place. Ill report back on how my case works out.

There is nothing on this planet worse than the state of Veterans Affairs in this country. It is ABYSMAL how Veterans are treated at this facility and by the whole system. Months to see a Dr.; months to get procedures done. Mountains of paperwork and red tape. HORRIBLE treatment by staff, especially this facility! Parking is a joke here. Cars are piled up everywhere there is room, and some where there is not. I wish people understood how bad it is. Over 8 hour waits in the ER!! The list goes on. I have spent thousands now going to real doctors and not dealing with the absolute MESS this is.

Substandard performance and treatment of veterans. I had an appointment on 11/15/19 at 2pm. I arrived at 120pm on the specified date. At 333pm I decided to leave after not being seen. These folks think that they are doing you a favor. No explanation was given just a cold shoulder for not waiting to 5pm I guess. People deserve better I feel bad for those that have this substandard health care facility as their only option. Shame on the directors and administrators of this facility, as those employees are a reflection of you.

For those who posted glowing reviews of the Atlanta VA, please leave a post on how you scheduled an appointment without going there in-person. The site seems to always have issues and I waited on hold for over an hour the past 3 times I’ve called to schedule myself an appointment. I’m so disappointed every time I call or need to deal with the VAMC. Hire more people or change your automated phone system. This is unacceptable and I know I’m not alone in my feelings.

The VA in Atlanta is a jobs program for inner city residents, foreign doctors & nurses, and want-a-be doctors from local med schools. The Mission Act is a joke to the Atlanta VA and it is almost impossible to get referred to a Community Care doctor no matter how far away you live because they see that as a threat to their job security. By the way, you better not have to go to an emergency room. I broke my ankle in January, had to go to an emergency room for surgery and as of Oct 17 am still getting bills and collection threats from different providers. 8 1/2 months later.

I have to say that I am especially disheartened to read the reviews that say act grateful and you are treated well or dont complain because the medical care is free. You dont owe the VA gratitude for competent care. They are REQUIRED to render it. And as for this being free care, it has been paid IN FULL by veterans and the price is higher than anyone can imagine. Put your Congressman and Senator on speed dial here, as you will have to push to get the treatment you deserve. They are arrogant and act as if they are doing you a great service when they shovel out substandard medical care. This system has been broken for a long time. and it is beyond broken. Its time to drain the cesspool of incompetent caregivers who are enriching themselves at the expense of veterans, and privatize veterans healthcare. -Signed A Nam Vets Daughter
