Liz Higgins is a current colleague and former employer of mine. Throughout my interactions with Liz she has shown herself to be passionate, driven, and genuinely supportive/curious about how to best meet the needs of her clients, as well as her clinical staff. Ive been more than impressed by this practice and of Liz (the owners) excitement and dedication to helping millennial couples. So often the counseling field gets in a rut of doing whats always been done. I feel as though the counselors at MLC are academically trained in what is helpful to couples as well as staying current with trends and what young couples relate to. I went with my partner to Millennial Life Counseling for couples counseling. We completed 7 sessions with Michelle; our last session was in Feb 2019.When we first contacted MLC the coordinator Kim told us there is no complimentary pre-appointment communication with counselors to assess fit. Other counseling groups we explored in Dallas offer free 15-30min phone calls to speak with potential counselors, which we found super useful. So this is one area where I believe MLC as a counseling group could improve.As for actual couples work, we ultimately decided we werent getting closer to our relationship goals. My partner did not feel safe enough in the space to open up about critical topics. I felt able to open up, but often did not feel heard or emotionally supported. Michelles approach to us seemed to avoid digging into deep pain and didnt enable us to get beneath the surface. Weve since moved on and found success with another counselor.Despite our experience, I can imagine MLC is good for some. It felt like a very professional environment and client confidentiality is taken seriously. I cant personally recommend, but if they now offer complimentary pre-appointment calls to assess counselor fit in advance, it might be worth checking out.
