Love this new found glory! I’ve brought friends and family back since finding it a few weeks ago. The trials all interconnect and lead to the water- love it. So many places to duck off along side the water to enjoy the rapids (or streams) depending on where you are. Picnic tables near parking areas (on the travel) with background soundscapes of the water to enjoy a meal, or walk down to the water and enjoy a getaway. Be careful going down the rocks (path depending) if knees or ankles need extra attention. The same for being near the water, it’s slippery and rapid, especially after a fresh rain. Depending on what parts of the trail, you get areas of elevation that can over look the water vs being in it. People come to fish, canoe, boat, fly fish, and swim in the water. They have camping. Primitive camp sites on the water (lazy river type, no shoals so no tranquil water sounds) but near water nonetheless. 7 sites on water, 2 across. Restrooms in camp area. Didn’t go in so not sure how they are inside. Overall, I always enjoy Factory Shoals and it’s low trafficked easy access to nature and water right in Newton County.

Its such a beautiful place. you can meet some good people here! yes its dangerous, but thats why its your job to be responsible and make sure you and your family is as safe as possible! theres a good bit of trash, but its hard to maintain when people just come right through and trash it again. i bring a bag with me when i go so i can pick up some trash while i enjoy the water

This is a great real park. The paths are made from years of people walking and dont restrict you from where a person may walk like some marked or paved trails. Some paths take you to the rivers edge and others offer wooded seclusion.

Pretty good fishing here if you know how to fish a river for bass and striper. Beautiful scenery. And great hiking especially if you make your own trails. Very relaxed atmosphere and no overbearing rangers like at most state parks.

Very peaceful camp ground. Enjoyed the fishing and the sites. And $15 a night was not bad at all. The areas were well kept and the hot showers were super nice. I would definitely stop in if your this way and stay for the night.

DO NOT SWIM HERE!!!!! EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!!!!!!This is a beautiful park to enjoy the sight of the water but DO NOT SWIM HERE WITHOUT A LIFE JACKET!!!! I live very close to here and it is common local knowledge that this place is known for drowning people. There are huge underwater caverns under the rocks and experienced grown men with lots of strength and muscle have drowned here by being pulled by the current under these rocks and into the underwater caverns. My husband is with the Sheriff Office and they recover bodies here FREQUENTLY!! DO NOT LET ANY ONE IN THE WATER WITHOUT A LIFE PRESERVER!!!!

Beautiful place, but at least *SIX PEOPLE* have drowned here in the last 10 years!!!Slippery rocks, strong currents, fast moving water of various depths, and underwater hazards like branches that may snag swimmers. Avoid the rapids. Use extreme caution when water is high.Drownings include June 2010 (two within 8 days), June 2013, Oct 2016, August 2020 (two on same day).

My daughter wanted to come to see the place where Vampire Diaries was filled, We decided to camp as well. We found Factory Shoals on or GPS and it was a very nice place to stay, The facilities are very clean and Mr Anderson the park ranger was super helpful and extremely friendly. Definitely recommend the campsite 😁😁😁😁

This is our favorite spot. Its so close to home and its beautiful. Lots of different trails. There are public restrooms, a campground, small park lots of picnic tables. We go for hiking the beautiful views and to swim in the summer. However please please dont enter the water unless you are familiar with Factory Shoals and a great swimmer. Many have been injured and lost their lives in the rapid water. Even when it looks calm please be cautious. We love this spot

Check the USGS water level before you go(gauge reading below Covington). Best tubing on the shoals is between 2-3 ft, my opinion. Much higher its kinda sketchy for the kids. Much lower youll be dragging your tail down the rocks.

So im a 26 year old guy, I moved here in maybe 2006 and I have graduated school met my wife and had my first son here in Covington. I came up here a few days ago about 8:30 am, had my waters and magic mushrooms and explored the entire park almost. Catching the best river views from both the campsite side and the trail side. There are big rocks you can catch a view from as well as small “in the water” rocks you can sit and lay on and catch those vibes also. Once I was done having my fun with the waters, it was hiking time. I walked about 3 miles and some change just me, the sun, and the trails. They were too peaceful. All of it was really. Almost eerie how quiet it was, it gives you the feeling as if you are the only person on Earth if you come alone that early with no one else in the park. Overall I had an amazing experience. I can’t swim so I stayed out the water itself, but it was very fun. I’ve brought my 5 year old son here also, he enjoyed it. But it is Nature so some parts can be intimidating or dangerous. Just always follow your instincts. If you don’t think you should be in that particular area, don’t be.

I love the park camp there often. But that past few times Ive been there the trash was piled up. I could almost say it looked like the same trash. Cause same was from a lady said. She picked it up and put it there. Just hope it stays nice like it was last year..

This is a beautiful, rustic park with plenty of places to fish or play in the water...just be aware that the rocks are slippery & the water is moving swiftly. Swim at your own risk & carry out what you carry in. No littering!!

Weve gone there a handful of times and the trash is always overflowing the bins. Young adults and teens gather there to drink alcohol and smoke marijuana. Glass beer bottles are everywhere, whole and broken. My son actually got cut on a piece of broken beer bottle, which marked the last time we will go there.I hope they take action!

We were there on 5/30/14 to 6 /1/14 first time in about 20 some odd yrs. It looked the same now as it did then, even Ranger Mike was still there after all these years, He is a great guy and looks after the place and doesnt Hassel anybody, but does a great and unbiased enforcement of the park rules, which is, in my opinion the way it should be. It is a great place to camp out and enjoy the outdoors. We had a great time, will come back, but as with all rivers you need to use common sense when in and around them . It is a nice & laid back place to go & have a good time. We enjoyed our time there .

This is a wonderful place to go with your family however the park itself has been closed for one year there are still plenty of parking and theres still plenty of trails and there is always the beautiful river which of course goes up and down according to rainfall the best time obviously is when the flowers are blooming and the birds are chirping and its always a great place in the middle of the Summer with the cool water cools you off for the 90° summer Georgia days but me personally I enjoy it the most in the winter when theres no one around in the Stillness and quietness thats what I found my song to you

This park has been here for years. I used to come down to the campground and put in on a tube down the rapids. Not much has changed in 25 years. The park side has plenty of tables, grills, and those wonder trails for hiking on both side of the river. We stayed at the campground. Very level lots and large. On the water. 10 bucks a nite. The comfort station needs some work but had a shower and restroom. Fishermen where down fishing. We came to Geocache and had a blast.

My kids and god children went to factory shoals to have fun and swim. Within 15 min my 14 year old godson Brandon Talley drowned. His foot was caught and broke in an underwater rock and he was drowned, He was being watched but it didnt matter the current pulled him 30 feet further down. My mission is that Brandons death is not in vain and I will make people aware of the unaware danger of factory shoals. This occurred on June 20 2013. There is a memorial set out at the beach area and im preparing flyers to post on all the trees, Our kids are at risk in this river and something needs to be done about it. Please keep the Talley family in youre prayers for this unforeseen tragedy. THANK YOU
