I would love to share my experience about the Columbus VA clinic, but I cant get in touch with them to make an appointment. You can be on hold forever and no one will answer, even if youre lucky enough to get to the automated responce. They post/list only one (1) phone number instead of each individual medical specialty number. I need my eye glass prescription filled and cant get in touch with anyone to get this accomplished. I feel bad for someone that has a true medical issue.

When calling the VA number(s), you could be speaking to an operator in another state. Who is asking too many questions about the nature of your call. It is frustrating that HIPPA laws are not being upheld, and your message is not returned by a VA Representative.

Went for ID, was told two different story why I couldnt. First, I was in line to get in the building and the staff was yelling at a really old Vietnam veteran. The old guy, like everyone in line was basically told to go away. These VA employees just want a paycheck for not doing any work. Anyway for my ID, I was told by one employee the machine was broken, and a second employee said corona we dont do ID. Every VA employee just says corona to get out of doing work and assisting veterans.

The Mayor of Columbus should be ashamed considering the majority of the population of Columbus are veterans. My primary care provider is DR. Andrew Anderson. He is not seeing patients due to covid 19. My options are driving to Montgomery AL or Columbus ED. If I go to a local Emergency room I risk getting stuck with a huge bill. Bottom line the system is broken. if your a veteran living in Columbus you should consider a move if you are relying of VA health care as a primary means of health insurance.

Allow me to first start off by saying that I do not normally do reviews. However, this story deserves one. I have been attending this location for the past four years with little to no problems with my doctors on the mental health side, Other than they do not notify me that my doctor has changed five times within for years.Just recently, July 30 I noticed that my prescriptions had not been renewed. I attempted to call the facility, of course with no answers on the telephone. I called the Central Alabama healthcare system who said that they would forward the refill to my doctor and to call back in three business days if I had not heard anything. Of course I did not hear anything.Discontinued on from July 30 until August 7. Now mind you, I have not Had my prescriptions in that span of time that I must have. I continue to call the hotline and they kept saying they have sent it to my doctor, and they are waiting to be refilled. After no response from my phone calls I called the emergency hotline. The emergency hotline then contacted the Columbus VA clinic mental health side. I am mediately got a phone call from them, asking me to come in so they can prescribe me my medications. When I got there, that did not what happened at all.I learned that the reason why my Prescriptions had not been refilled, is because I had a new doctor that I did not know about nor was I notified about. This doctors name is Dr. Suran. Dr. SURAN I have never met before until this day that they called me in to give me prescriptions. However I was not given prescriptions and learned that the doctor that had been assigned to me cannot prescribe me my medications because he did not have the license to do so. I was not notified prior when I was attempting to have these medications refilled that I must have. Which would have avoided what happens next.Instead of giving me hardcopies of my prescriptions and referring me which he could have done prior to this, I had now been off my medications for two weeks because of Dr.Surans negligence To provide me information ahead of time that he did not have the license to write my prescriptions. He then said he wanted my cooperation, I responded cooperation with what? He then place me on what’s it called a 10-13, And I was no longer allowed to leave the building. I begged him not to do this to me and he did it anyway, fully believing when I got there my prescription problem would be resolved. Instead Dr. Suran made things worse... Due to standard operation procedures of the 1013 I learned, he was concerned that I had not been without my medications for two weeks although it was because of his lack of license to do so and lack of reaching out to me earlier to tell me he did not have the ability to do so. I was then escorted non-aggressively by Muskogee County Police Department in handcuffs To Saint Francis hospital for 24 hours to be evaluated by a psychiatrist to monitor how I was without my medications. The psychiatrist Understood the mistake that Dr. Suran had made, then released me after 24 hours, and prescribe me a bridge of seven days worth of my medications to get me through.I then had to go to a private care doctor and explain the situation, who is able to verify my prescriptions to the VA and prescribe me them, however I had to pay in a enormous amount of money for them. This could all have been avoided Had Dr. SURAN simply read the notes that I had been calling Alabama Central healthcare system, referred me to a Doctor Who can write the prescription and not have to put me through all of that. I was non-aggressive, I simply did not have my medication and needed it, and he ignored me when I said please do not do this, I already don’t have my medication and by doing this to me you’re going to make it worse. And Dr. Suran did the 1013 anyway and made me go through all of that. It is the worst experience of my life.I hope that anyone out there is reading this. I have placed in a formal complaint against this doctor, So that this never happens to another veteran.

The AA gentleman at the front desk was very helpful and pleasant. The nurse Eboni is probably the best nurse I have encountered in years...very patient and kind. The doctor I saw for my walk in appt was equally as nice. Support staff in the back was luke warm and rude at times. There was a lady who I waited on to get a new patient appt for a while. I was told to expect a call from her if I had to leave. I left and she did call but I missed her call and returned it. I was unable to get her on the phone but was transferred to another employee who was VERY RUDE and nasty. Instead of assisting me with getting a new patient appointment she had a literal melt down telling me that whom ever started the process with me should be the one who finishes it and she was not going to help me because the lady I was referred to should have finished my new patient paperworkOnly GOD knows how much I wish I remembered what her name is Id turn her in to the DIRECTOR OF V.A. ...not the Director over 13th but over the entire V.A. Damn shame she works in the service industry to VETERANS but refuses to be of service. I had to talk to 4 different individuals on the phone with representatives in Montgomery before I could get an appointment.!!!!! Transfer after transfer after transfer to different departments.

No one ever answers the phone. They tell you to call to make an appt. for a certain month and no one answers the phone. This is ridiculous! How are you suppose to make an appointment?! They need to hire more staff if no one has time to pick up the phone, which I find very hard to believe that no one can answer the phone. They may be ignoring the phones. If I could give negative Stars, I would. Granted we were a walk in, but, my husband had so much back pain he couldn’t walk. I had to bring him in with a wheelchair and because we don’t know many people around here we had to bring our children with us (2, 6, 9 years). Anyway, we waited 5 HOURS. He was literally the LAST person seen by his dr. When he met with the nurse, after 3 hours of waiting, the nurse gave him an appointment date of October 3rd, 4 months away. For crippling back pain! But the dr decided to see him that day after all the regular patients. The dr saw him for 10 mins, gave him meds and sent him on his way. When my husband asked the dr about the Choice program or going to a specialist for his back, he told him that he wouldn’t recommend anything until AFTER the OCTOBER appointment. Are you kidding me?!?! Real wonderful service for someone who served 11 years, of which 58 months was spent in Iraq. I hope you know where your tax money is going.

Who knew, my first appt, nobody told me that. Waited another 20 min only to see the nurse, had to reshedule. Sitting right in front of a staff member that checked me in, never saying anything. Theres this VA police officer who works there who goes by Officer Bryant who is extremely unprofessional and rude to most patients he comes in contact with. Heres one incident I had with him...11/29/18: I arrived at the Columbus, GA VA clinic around 3PM to get a consult/clearance to go into Substance Abuse Treatment Class so I can complete it to qualify for Vocational Rehabilitation here in Columbus per what the Voc Rehab specialist here instructions. I was then told that walk-ins stop at 3:00 and I will have to come back tomorrow. I told the representatives there that I had appointments and interviews to go to tomorrow, one of those appointments was a potential job aspect. I was walking back to my mothers car and was angrily talking to myself and there was a Mr. Ussery (An employee of the Columbus GA VA clinic) in front of me. He then come to me and said things like we can step outside the parking lot and challenged me to a physical altercation. Other statements such as The reason why I get piss-poor service because Im a piece of crap was also said by Mr. Ussery At this point: Im just shocked that a VA employee would do something so bold such as trying to fight a man on a walking cane at a government facility. And I kept asking him to move away from my others car. He still got in my personal space and still continue to challenge me right there at the parking lot of the clinic. He then proceeded to walk back to his car, still berating me then I left.11/30/2018: I arrived at the Columbus GA VA clinic to get the consult around 8:30 AM. I then did a walk-in to get a consult/cleared for SATP and talked to the VA police officers about the previous days incident. They then advise me about Patient Advocate and filling out a Talk to the Director mini-sheet to drop into the box. My mom had to go to work and I had my own interviews and business to take care of the day. I voiced to several employees that I had to go.So I am nervous and anxious and couldnt stop myself from shaking and tapping my walking cane on the ground. One burly police officer asked me to step outside and threatened to remove me from the building because my cane was disturbing the peace and all of this started since yesterday. He did this again while I was in the back of the clinic waiting for the psychologist to clear me with no other patients around me. I eventually got to see this psychologist, a person of African decent and accent. For some reason, VA police officers (Including Officer Bryant) followed him into the room at the beginning of the meeting with him. After this doctor proceeds to talk aggressive towards me, I talk aggressively back to him, he presses the panic button. VA police proceeded to come in where the doctor said that he will not clear me for SATP. I said Thanks for wasting my time the doctor presses the panic button and Officer Bryant and his colleague then put me in handcuffs. Officer Bryant demanded that I apologize to this doctor. I did and asked if I can call my job to try to reschedule my interview. I believe it was a female plain clothes officer who then said that I will never get a job with how the way Im acting. They took me to their office in the back of the building while I kept telling them that my back was hurting from the handcuffs. They kept me seated still until they eventually let me stand up, took the handcuffs off and wrote me a citation for disorderly conduct...which has a fine of $280. I make $264 a month and Im on SNAP and a HUD-VASH voucher.

When I first starting going I thought this is pretty ok. But, as time has passed I am not very pleased. It seems as if they complicate things more than they have to. They will call me and if I am not near the phone I would never knew they called if it wasnt for caller ID...they dont leave message on who to contact and they leave a central number and when you call that number and finally get to where you need to be and your lucky enough to get a person on the phone and you tell them you received a call...they will say...who from and I responded I dont know as they didnt leave there name...they say well sorry we cant help you if you dont have a name as this is a central number. So then what? You never know what they wanted and hope you are dying of something. I was in the clinic in August 14th and had appt set up for Sept11th to see a doctor for rehab at Tuskegee ...went to the doctor she says I need to have physical therapy 2/3 times per week for 6 weeks...I say ok...she says they will send you an appt. Today is Oct. 17th and still no appt. Have I called...yes....left a message with the secretary of rehab that I still am waiting on appt that was five days ago.....so what do I do now? Its like they dont care about patient care. Theres an attitude. I am just extremely disappointed. Today I received one of those calls and the same thing has happened....central number......no message on who to call...I have called 5 times in the last hour responding to their call and have been cut off each and every time. Once you get in the back of the Columbus Clinic those people in the back are extremely kind and attentive. I just dont understand.
