I am two weeks post op, and despite the post op aches and pains I am doing incredibly well. Let me predicate the rest of this review by saying that I am a former police officer, firefighter - paramedic and athlete who had the wear and tear of life wear on his shoulders. I had 5 prior shoulder surgeries so I believe I can accurately assess the skill of my surgeon. Dr. Srikumaran did five separate procedures in this recent surgery. That’s a lot according to him. Anyhow, I feel soooooooo much better than in any prior surgery that I am making a sweeping pronouncement that Dr. Srikumaran is the best shoulder surgeon around. Some who may read this review may think that I am some kind of endorser, but I assure you that this doctor is unequivocally a great surgeon. When your body of nearly 60 years wears on you and you have someone who can help you become painless and sleep better at night and most importantly get you back to tossing a ball with your dog, then I will be grateful for Dr. Srikumaran

My Dr recommended Dr Uma because she says he very good at what he does. It was a very frustrating month or so trying to fax my referral to John Hopkins but, after finally getting it there I was impressed with the staff and the facility. The level of professionalism displayed made me feel good in my decision to go there for a second opinion on whether I need to have surgery. I left feeling knowledgeable on the subject and glad to know where to go and that hes there for me if I decide to have the procedure.

Dr Umasuthan is a wonderful doctor. He was willing to fix my arm when other doctors wanted not to deal with it but just amputate my arm. I am so very thankful for Dr Umasuthan for saving my arm and relieving me of pain. I wish there were more caring doctors in this world like him.

My experience has been positive from the initial consult thru the post op appt. Once I was checked in, I was called back a few minutes later. The staff are friendly, courteous & helpful. When Dr. U enters the room, he shakes your hand after greeting you; he sits next to you (on a stool) and has a conversation. He explains in detail and asks if there are any questions. He completes his visit with instructions (which are also listed in a folder) for future care. He gave me his cell number to call if I had any questions. I’m very impressed with the quality of care & the high caliber of professionalism shown during all of my interactions.

DRM. Uma is the best most experienced orthopedic surgeon. He cares about his patients and pushes through insurance issues. He performed the first surgery of its kind to attach my humorous bone back into my shoulder. Going in to a medical journal and has now performed more than 6 of its kind since mine. You want a good doctor he is the greatest.

Just referred him to a friend, He and his staff has been nothing but amazing even tolerating my missed appts. I wouldn’t change my care from him for the world. When I tell you my shoulder was in horrible shape believe me...torn in several places, muscle and bicep issues as well as damage to my bones from being uncovered and injured so long without care. It’ sounds horrible I know but I can do all of what I used to do with my shoulder Thanks to Dr. Srikumaran.

In October 2015 I had my first rotator cuff surgery. There was extensive damage due to a motorcycle accident I had when I was a kid. Over the years it became so painful but I had a hard time lifting my arm up. It really interfered with my ability to swim and at times sleep. I was really nervous about the Dr.Srikumaran did a very thorough job explaining the entire procedure and what to expect. The most difficult part of the recovery was having to sleep in an arm chair for a while so that I could keep the arm elevated properly. Since I’m a stomach sleeper this proved to be difficult to say the least. I followed the protocol exactly and was very glad that I did. My goal was to be swimming with little or no pain by the following summer and I was indeed swimming with practically no pain nine months later. I injured my left rotator while exercising and needed surgery on that as well. I had that surgery in October 2018. Once again nine months later I was swimming. At this point for a 60-year-old man my shoulders are in great shape! I don’t have any pain! Everybody from the front desk to the PAs were all professional and very accommodating. I’ve heard a lot of nightmare stories about rotator cuff surgery and people never healing properly. One of my closest friends has one of those stories. Glad to say that’s not my story. Thank you Dr. Srikumaran!

Dr Srikumaran has lived up to his reputation as being the best shoulder surgeon in the region. He completed my second shoulder surgery with the same skill as with my first.

Dr. Srikumaran was very knowledgable and diagnosed my shoulder concern effectively. I was disappointed in the time he spent explaining my condition to me - he talked very quickly and moved on to the next patient without asking if I had any questions.

I would recommend Dr.Uma and his team anytime. He operated on my torn rotator cuff back in June and even thru my therapy hes been very involved. All the therapists know when theyre getting one of Dr.Umas patients for therapy cuz the instructions are precise on what he wants done during therapy. My healing is slow but very surely, Im healing. I would definitely recommend this doctor and his team (Dr. Peter Newman) verrrry highly and without hesitation. Thank you guys for all you do.Beverley

My apologies if these comments appear twice. I did not see the comments I first wrote so I am doing it all again.I have had three rotator cuff surgeries with three different surgeons over the past ten years. All were very good. Ive no complaints with any one of them. Dr. Uma was the youngest.I tore my right rotator cuff when throwing a football without warming up. I did not warm up adequately the first time. The second time a physical therapist was too rough with me when stretching my shoulder muscles and tore the muscles. The third time I tripped over an area rug on the way to the bathroom at 5:30am and traumatized my shoulder, ripping one or two major muscles including my bicep.Dr. Uma is very skilled, professional, and kind. I have zero complaints about him, with the exception of the following, which I dont really consider criticism. I think he could have warned me about the pain I would be experiencing, what we in psychology (I am a psychology professor, 68 years old, retired,) refer to as stress inoculation. My post operative pain caused me significant distress for over two months. I began with a round of oxycontin, yet it was not enough. Then Tylenol, as doctors refused to give me more oxycontin. (This due to the hysteria concerning opiates. Doctors are more concerned about themselves than to their patients, And eventually physical therapy. I waited longer than usual to start physical therapy because of an earlier bad experience with a physical therapist ripping my shoulder apart. That aside, I would return to Dr. Uma without hesitation. My pain was nothis fault. Again I have the utmost confidence in his abilities as a surgeon, his empathy and sensitivity as a person, and so on.I enjoy knowing Dr Uma and recommend him highly. When I asked him how I looked inside, he said horrible. He added you are going to need a shoulder replacement, eventually. Much as I dread this procedure I would use Dr. Uma to have it done.Dr Uma is a great surgeon and physician, as are his physician assistants and nurses. You will like them all.

I had a very complicated complex shoulder surgery with Dr Srikumaran. I can’t find enough good things to say about my experience with him. This complex history of shoulder injury and joint infection posed a challenge for me finding a doctor who was willing to accept my case/me as a patient. Dr. Uma took on my case and was able to get me in quickly for my surgery to prevent further damage to my joint. At the bedside he was professional, efficient, and listened to my concerns. From a technical standpoint, my surgery and managed care to this point (3 months post-op) has been perfect. After going through such a serious infection and spending several days in the hospital (and many more worrying about my future outcome), it was such a relief to meet such a confident physician (rightfully confident by the way) and I don’t know where I would be without his help and care. I highly recommend Dr. Srikumaran.

Dr. Srikumaran is absolutely amazing. After years of pain and failed rotator cuff surgery’s done by local shoulder orthopedists I finally decided to take my issues to Johns Hopkins. Dr. Uma Srikumaran came highly recommended. He preformed a reverse shoulder replacement on my left shoulder last week. Surgery went perfectly. I have have zero pain and am already getting some mobility back. While in the hospital severalNurses told me that Dr. Uma is internationally well known and sought out by patients all over the world. Plus he has a great, kind personality. I highly recommend Dr. Uma to anyone with shoulder issues. Start at the top (unlikeMe).
