I highly recommend Dr. Hammett and his staff! I have never once felt that Im not being listened to or heard at any of my visits. Dr. Hammett takes time to listen to you and gets to know his patients as people, not just another patient. He truly cares about trying to get relief for you and come up with a care plan thats effective and isnt just a bunch of pills.I love the family atmosphere of this office and will (and have) recommend them to anyone that has the need for a neuro. Sure you might have to wait a minute to see him, but its because hes not breezing through the appointments and is taking his time with each patient. Bring a book or something to entertain yourself with...or just enjoy sitting and relaxing while you wait. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would (especially for his Botox skills...my face has an inside voice now!!!)

I would go anywhere besides this place, subpar care doesn’t even beginning to describe my experience. You won’t see or be examined by a neurologist here, only an arrogant nurse who doesn’t listen to your symptoms. I was diagnosed with margarines and the real diagnosis couldn’t have been more off. Save your time, save your money, and go somewhere else. They only care about pumping Botox into lips and throwing out a broad net to treat things. A one star rating is generous...

I first so the PA Tammy there and she was extremely rude. On my next visit I saw Dr Hammett who was extremely nice. However, he pushed for me to get Botox for my migraines even though I only had 2-4 a month. I had the botox treatment, but was not informed at the time the appt was scheduled that it was considered a surgical procedure . My appointment was in December and I received a bill in January stating that I owed over $700. My deductible had not been met on my insurance and since the injections are considered a surgical procedure, I had to meet my deductible first. Of course had I known this, i would have waited until January to start the injections instead of paying my deductible in December and then starting over a month later. Luckily a lady in the billing department told me about the Botox Savings Plan and I was able to file a claim. This was never discussed with me at Dr Hammetts office when discussing the start of Botox treatments. Now I need a prescription filled and they will not refill it until my balanced owed is less than $300. To make matters worse, the Botox did not help my migraines. I definitely would not recommend The Hammett Clinic. It seems that they are just out get get money and not willing to help their patients.

If you are suffering with a neurologic issue save you time and money. I had my initial consult on 11.10.2020 for chronic migraines with Tammy Watts. I sought help after having 4-5 migraines that left me bedridden each week in additional to almost a couple of mild ones for almost 3 months at this point. After going over my recent migraine history she prescribed Ajovy I informed her at the time my insurance would NOT pay for it without me trying Botox first after other RX’s that I have been taking for last 6 months. Her solution instead of taking the time to connect the Providers line for Cigna is to give me a discount coupon for Ajovy and a sample. The discount coupon makes it where Ajovy will only cost me 250.00 instead of 390.00 a month . Watts says I have to have a minimum of 12 migraines a month for Botox along with other requirement per Cigna’s protocol… Also at no point is it mentioned that maybe we need to do an MRI (owner is a neurologist BTW). Keep in mind I have been having up to 4 a week at this point so yes I meet the number. So on 11.13.2020 a precertification is sent from Dr. Hammet (who I have never met) for botox therapy (which Cigna says it wants me to do before they will pay for Ajovy) Cigna declines it on 11.16.2020 and Cigna tells me that the referring provider MUST contact Provider line to discuss protocol with Cigna.I call leave a message on 11.19.2020 (No ONE answers the phone even during business hours) I never receive a return call and when I callback from scheduling I am forward to Morgan (surprise another voicemail). So I leave a message stating what Cigna says including Cigna reference number and case manager name along with the phone number the referring provider needs to call. SURPRISE Morgan never calls me back. But she does send an appeal through website which is denied again.So I call on 11.23.2020 and try leaving a message on Watts care team line they call back and say I need to speak to Morgan and will let her know to call me. Nothing I have NEVER spoken to Morgan at any point. I leave another message for Morgan on 12.04.2020 I get a call back next business day and am told Morgan is working on it. So I wait for the call and am checking on Cigna site. Morgan NEVER calls back. I spend 45 mins with Cigna seeing what if anything I can do again it is all dependant on referring MD Hammett calling Cigna Provider Line. According to Cigna a simple phone call will fix this issue.I do receive a call on 12.10.2020 after I leave another message on care time line. Now Morgan is NOT on Watts care team she has her own extension which is 20 I am told. At this point I am sure Morgan is an imaginary person that they use as an excuse for not doing anything. I hear nothing again from Morgan. I call on 12.21.2020 and leave a message on Watts’ care team I get a call back same day and can hear for the first time what Dr Hammett sounds like as the nurse is talking to me and he is commenting in the background. She said Dr Hammett will take care of it. Here it is 01.31.2021 and nothing. My four month check is due and in that time all I’ve gotten from The Hammet Clinic is a coupon from drug company and a single sample of Ajovy. I have forwarded this review to The Hammett Clinic but I am sure they will have Morgan take care of it…. Find a Neurologist that does NOT offer Aesthetics services cause I am of the opinion that is all they really care about.

Dr. Hammett is very knowledgeable and compassionate. He looks you in the eye and listens closely to your problems and complaints. He is very diligent, and I never once felt like he was rushing me out of the room. Over the relatively short time that I have been his patient, Dr. Hammett has already helped me more than my previous doctor of 12 years. I am encouraged by the progress hes helped me achieve, and look forward to even more improvement with his guidance.

Ive been to many neurologist over the years and was finally referred to Dr. Hammett. Thank God for this doctor. He cares about the pain and suffering of my migraines more than anyone I have ever been to. He thinks outside the box. I am forever grateful to him and his nursing staff!!

I have been extremely satisfied with Dr. Hammetts expertise in the cosmetic field. The results on each procedure I have received have been amazing, and it is a real plus that he is very gentle. I know from friends and family, that Dr. Hammett is an incredible neurologist that most see great results after becoming his patient, but I want to give him credit for the subtle differences he has made in my aging gracefully! Met with Dr Hammett for the first time this afternoon. Wow I am impressed and finally have some hope that my suffering may just come to an end, if not and end then be greatly reduced! Dr David Hammett has truly saved my life. I appeared in his office after having been severely mistreated by another neurologist. He walked in to find me sobbing, ice packs on my head, and void of hope. I was at the point of giving up!! He was compassionate, comforting, and most importantly? HE LISTENED--closely. He told me what he felt may be going on and told me there was a simple and inexpensive test that would confirm it. Within 15 minutes, I was laughing and completely pain free! I could not believe it! I walked out a different person. I have now been a patient for several years and while my treatment is ongoing, since my case is complex with several neurological issues, I would have zero quality of life if I had not been led to him by pure chance. It is my hope that someone else sees this and that this is what may lead them his way, to change YOUR life. There is hope!! 1st visit waited over one hour, appt time at 3pm seen way after 4pm, not sure why, maybe this day was a bad day for visit, 1 star for wait time and 4 stars for doctor.. Hopefully, they improve waiting time

Ive seen at least five neurologists to treat chronic migraines. Dr. Hammett goes above and beyond to not only listen to patient feedback, but to create a treatment plan that works YOU as an individual. If that is not working, then he will think outside of the box and try unconventional methods to try to make life as pain free as possible for migraine sufferers. Dr. Hammett does not sugarcoat things, but he absolutely WILL work with you and listen to your suggestions as to what works/doesnt work for you as an individual. He is unlike any specialist I have ever seen. Instead of working ABOVE you as a specialist, he works WITH you. I highly recommend this practice.

Dr. Hammett is TOTALLY awesome - he has helped me with chronic migraines for years. His staff is very friendly and considerate. My pain management Dr referred me to Dr Hammett about a year ago. This Dr is amazing & extremely accurate with his customized treatment. My entire quality of life is better, his treatments have made excruciating pain go away. The staff is always very professional, courteous & make each patient feel special . Usually the wait time is less than 10minutes or so. Patients waiting often gossip about how wonderful Dr Hammett is in their opinion. I truly like his style & procedure for testing & determining the problem, then treating according to individual need. My health has definitely improved since I became his patient. Would not hesitate to highly recommend Dr. Hammett.

I had the same exact experience as Katherine Johnson!! I wish I would have gotten to see Dr. Hammett, he sounds great per the other reviews. The nurse practitioner acted like she did not care a single bit about me and asked me like one question the whole time. The rest of the appointment was her throwing information and medication at me for around 30 minutes. I wanted to understand more about the cause of my headaches and how I can get them to stop. She just pushed medication on me and it made me feel like she just wanted me to take meds everyday so I would keep coming back.

Dr. Hammett is the best neurologist in all of South Carolina. I have been a patient of his for 10 plus years. He manages my migraines no matter how difficult it becomes in figuring out the best treatment. I have been a very complex case and hes never given up on me.He is very knowledgeable about the care he is giving and he cares about you as a person. I am so disappointed. My wife injured her arm. Referral made to Dr. Hammett. After multiple attempts, by us, & the referring Physician, the referral was never attended too, they kept saying that didn’t see it. I know for a fact they had it... sent twice and follow up phone call by the referring Doctor. My wife had to suffer longer than needed, because of due diligence. Dr. Hammett, please check on this. We called multiple times, including the referral Doctor office. We really needed too see you. Already scheduled with another Neurologist.

Everything for someone who suffers with migraines. I searched all the East Coast then found Dr Hammett and Tammy. Dr. Hammett gave me the ability to function in life for the 1st time in years!! We came up with what was going to help me. We still get together and go over what’s going to help me in times of suffering. If you want a doctor who will listen and do what he has been trained to do then this is the place!

Put simply, my initial appointment with Dr. Hammett was the best experience Ive had with any medical professional. Ive suffered from migraines my entire adult life, and, while many doctors have tried to help me, I have never felt like they understood the daily pain and struggle of living with migraines and chronic headaches. Dr. Hammett instantly understood and told me that he was going to do everything in his power to help me treat the pain and eliminate the underlying causes. He spent upwards of 45 minutes in a room with me, which is so much more time than most doctors will ever spend with you, and he gave me a variety of medications and strategies to not only deal with the pain but change my thinking about treating my headaches. He is also going to do Botox shots to help prevent the headaches.His staff has been wonderful as well. They were so friendly and got me in and out of my appointment quickly and got my prescriptions sent to the pharmacy in short order (which was a tremendous help since I was going out of town that afternoon). Additionally, they were able to provide me with samples of several medications to try and were even able to get several of the drugs that werent covered by my insurance covered by the manufacturers themselves under prescription copay/patient assistance programs.I just cannot say enough good things about Dr. Hammett and his staff. They truly care about their patients and will go the extra mile to help them in any way that they can. We live in a world of hospital run medical practices, which often forces doctors to abide by formulaic and bureaucratic procedures and to treat as many patients as possible in order to drive up their compensation and the hospitals revenue stream. It is clear given Dr. Hammett and his background that he cares far more about his patients than anything else, and I am tremendously lucky to have such a wonderful doctor.

It is so nice to find a doctors office that is owned by the doctor and his wife and they both work there because thats not the case now days. I have suffered from debilitating and chronic migraines for years- I tried other neurologist when I moved here 12 years ago and none of them helped me and then 7 or 8 years I found Dr. Hammett and he was an answer to my prayers because he was the first doctor that listened to me and heard what I was saying and helped me. Dr. Hammett has been my neurologist for over 12 years. He is compassionate, knowledgeable, and patient. He was the only doctor able to diagnose my condition 12 years ago and began treatment with botox for chronic migraines. I now use botox for trigeminal neuralgia, a painful nerve disease called the suicide disease. No other neurologist in Columbia area treating trigeminal neuralgia with botox. It has given me a second chance. The Hammett Clinic is family. I am thankful for the work they all do.

Dr. Hammett and his whole staff are absolutely wonderful. He is very well spoken, knowledgeable but most important caring. Having a physician who not only respects, but understands the difficultly of chronic pain is extremely vital when looking for a neurologist. If you suffer from chronic pain you can empathize with others on just wanting a normal life. Dr. Hammett made it clear that he is here to assist all his patients to getting to (or as close to) that normal healthy life. One in which that does not entail you having to be concerned about your day to day unexpectedly or inconveniently being interrupted by a migraine rendering you unable to function. I would absolutely recommend him as a neurologist.

Trying to get an appointment changed or a prescription refilled over the phone is a nightmare. You are only as good as your staff and though Dr Hammett himself is good , when your child is in pain and you call 3 days and finally drive down to the clinic on the 4th for a prescription, somebody is not doing their job. Granted, Dr Hammett somewhat unaware of this situation, it is not the first time it has happened and I have spoken to him. You need to make sure your patients are taken care after the visit.

Dr. Hammett is one of the most compassionate and knowledgeable neurologists I have ever met. I cycled through several doctors before I met him -- they all had me try the standard rounds of preventatives and none of them worked. When my headaches increased from 1-2 a week to 25 a month, I knew I had to find someone else to help me. Dr. H.s staff is unbelievably helpful and he is focused on helping his patients achieve better quality of life. Thanks to him, I know that I have two types of headache and I am able to live almost headache-free!UPDATE: I moved cross-country a year ago and have yet to find neurology care. The past year has reinforced how unique and compassionate they are at THC. They aren’t controlled by a large hospital network, they are willing to stay up to date on the latest treatments, and they never dismissed or minimized the pain of headache. Luckily, they also put in significant effort to educate their patients so I have the information I need to work with my primary care doctor to manage the worst of my headaches until we can find neuro care.If you are looking for a new neurologist, you won’t find a better doctor for managing your headaches than David Hammett.

Worst initial appointment I’ve ever had. I was referred to the clinic for an increase in headaches since giving birth, like 2-3 headaches or more a week for 9 months. The nurse practitioner came in the room, did not ask any questions except if I was coming for headaches. When I said yes she just started pushing medication on me. Didn’t ask what type of headache I was getting or anything. When I told her I wanted to find out more of where the headaches were coming from instead of immediately jumping to medication she became defensive and told me only an mri could determine that. I kept asking questions because I wanted some conversation about my headaches what type I was having and then I would be open to medication, but she wasn’t having that! I told her I was doing a headache log, but she didn’t want to see it or have me tell her about it. She asked if I got nauseous with headaches, I told her barely and she started pushing Zofran. She wasnt listening to anything I had to say and when I was trying to tell my health history she just blew it off and didn’t respond to anything I had said but asked again about medication. I would never advise anyone to see her.

Love the way Dr Hammett and staff treat patients like they would want fiber o be treated.
