My experience with Dr. Merk was nothing but positive. I had a traumatic Tibial Plateau fracture where my leg essentially shattered and I would not be walking around today without issue if not for Dr. Merk.Dr. Merk was extremely attentive and professional throughout my entire yearlong process of recovery. I am incredibly thankful, and would recommend him to anyone in need of orthopedic attention.Thank you Dr. Merk!

I am thankful for Dr. Merks care of my sons injury. He is an amazing surgeon and his bedside manner was wonderful. He explained what was wrong, showed us the images and how he was going to repair it. He had to put my sons joint back together. His PA Patty is also amazing. She takes the time to also explain the care and she went out of her way to help my son.I highly recommend Dr. Merk and his group. My son is back to normal activities with full mobility of the joint. Thank you

I have nothing but positive things to say about Dr. Merk. He repaired the detached quadricep tendon (I forget the technical term) on my right knee. At my first appointment, on the day of surgery, and in my follow up appointments he provided thorough and easy to understand explanations regarding the injury, the surgery and the recovery process and was more than happy to answer any and all questions. I was thoroughly satisfied and, if there’s a need, would use him again.

Dr. Merk is seasoned veteran, a real professional. He has guided me through multiple skeletal related issues. My physical wellbeing is very important as a landscape professional. I need strength every day to keep up with all the hard working laborers. Today, Im happily pain free, feeling strong. I have referred a half dozen patients to him and all have expressed their gratitude. Thanks Dr. Merk!

I fell, fractured my shoulder and was told by the ER doctor to see Dr. Merk. I am very glad I followed that recommendation. Dr. Merk is an AWESOME doctor - Kind, Compassionate and Very Capable. The pain was well controlled the whole time I was under Dr. Merks care. Im 54, and I had never broken a bone before., Dr. Merk was patient enough to not just answer my questions but to show me pictures and explain to me, very clearly, exactly what had happened, how he was treating it and how I was progressing. On my last visit I was a little concerned because I was still feeling some pain. Dr. Merk assured me my shoulder was fixed, the pain was simply residual pain, and it would go away in about 2 weeks. If it didnt, he said come back - Im not going anywhere. He was very reassuring. Sure enough, before 2 weeks came I was pain free and had complete range of motion in my injured shoulder. Dr. Merk: Kind, Compassionate and Very Capable.

Told me I didn’t need surgery for my broken clavicle. Pushed me off to PT and five weeks after my injury and first visit to Dr. Merk was told by two other doctors that I should have received surgery before then. Very dissatisfied. Dr. Merk did not explain anything to me and left me very confused through the whole process.

Based on my recent experience I would never recommend Dr. Merk. Nor would I ever have the confidence to return to Northwestern Orthopedic’s. Based on my poor experience I sought a 2nd opinion and what a world of difference in patient care.

Merk has horrible bedside manner. He also pushed services on me that I had repeatedly told him were against my primary doctors recommendations and then had NW bill for services that I did not even come in for.
