Every review you read about Dr. Hanauer is spot on. Nobody better. Combines best-in-the-world technical knowledge with outstanding communication and empathy. First saw him 11 years ago and in one office visit he resolved a problem with my J-pouch surgery that my local GI doctor missed despite a battery of expensive tests. He has managed my pouch care ever since.Its almost a full day getting to Chicago to see him but it is a day well spent. If you are struggling with an unresolved GI issue, you cant do any better than Dr. Hanauer.

My daughter was in terrible shape. She was 40lbs under weight (80lbs) when we had our first appointment with Dr. Hanauer in July 2020. Four months later, she is back to her goal weight (120 lbs) and doing much better. The problem was her old crohns medicine stopped working a year ago and her former doctor didnt know what to do at that point. Thank you for caring for my daughter during these stressful times.

I’ve been seeing Dr Hanauer since 1998 after suffering with Crohns for over 15 years on prednisone and changing doctors several times. In less than 2 years, Dr Hanauer had me off the prednisone and into remission for the past 20 years. He is amazing and one of the nicest doctors I’ve ever met. Highly recommended!

Dr. Hanauer is AMAZING!!! We saw him today for a very complex situation for our special needs daughter. He is kind, professional, filled with good information that he is willing to share and an excellent doctor. I cant say enough good things about him. I have been his patient since 1992 and I stumbled into his office through ER at University or CHICAGO. He diagnosed me immediately after a year of struggling with other doctors. I followed him to Northwestern and he is not only one of the finest doctors EVER but the nice men around. He cares about the whole patient !!!

Been going to Dr. Hanauer since 1991 when he was at University of Chicago and transferred over to Northwestern when he began practicing there. I was misdiagnosed and in very poor health by another doctor. That doctors sent me to Dr Hanauer because my health was failing and he didn’t know what to do. Dr. Hanauer knew what I had wrong with me before I had the Colonoscopy. The next morning I had the scope and he confirmed I had Crohns. It was a long road to recovery but it began with his treatment and have been in remission since. One of the greatest IBD Specialists in the country!

I had stomach pain beginning in 2012 and was told my gallbladder needed to come out. I did the surgery , and had horrible stomach problems ever since. I went to about four doctors who did tests and told me I had IBS or told me they couldn’t figure out was wrong. I saw doctor Hanauer at the end of 2017 one time and without even doing tests he said he was pretty sure what was wrong and prescribed a medication. Well, he was right. My life is back to normal now and I don’t deal with horrible and embarrassing stomach issues like I had to endure for years.
