Jane is the person I’ve been looking for many years! Being as picky about my hair as I am - it’s almost impossible for me to be truly satisfied after my appointment. But let me tell you - she did it! She made me 100% satisfied, did exactly the way I pictured my hair. I didn’t know the color shade I wanted but I had an idea in mind. I cant say enough good things about Solo Salon - Elizabeth. Ive been unhappy with my hair for months and had a vague idea of what I wanted the end result to look like, with a few stipulations on process (wasnt looking to get bleach all over my scalp), and no idea if it was even possible. I called to set-up an appointment because I felt unsure of what service to select online, and didnt want to screw over a stylist with booking too much or too little time. From the get-go, the entire staff was so friendly and helpful. They actually had me take photos of my hair as it was then and send pictures of what I wanted, and advised me to set up a consultation with the stylist they thought would be best adept at getting my hair where I wanted it to go. Fast forward a few weeks and I had my first brightening appointment with Claire who is amazing, and a must if youre a blonde. I gave Claire my bogus, vague hair hopes and she hit it out of the park. I didnt think it was possible to get the level of white blonde I wanted with an all over highlight but she made it happen. Claire is a relaxing stylist who keeps up fun conversation without being exhaustive and is super pleasant to be around. She is a pro! Im so glad I read the reviews and made this my new neighborhood salon. If youre on the fence, just book the appointment.

I have very curly hair and Jen L has been my curly hair stylist/expert/role model for nearly a decade. This newer location on Elizabeth Street is beautiful, sunny, stylish and inviting. The staff and stylists buzz with energy and everyone seems genuinely happy. Very friendly over the phone if you have questions or need to reschedule. Plus, it’s down the block from Politan Row! I highly recommend this salon!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. From check-in to check-out, I felt extremely safe and comfortable in their facility during this crazy time. My stylist, Claire, is nothing short of AMAZING. I’ve been coming to Solo for a good number of years now (honestly don’t remember how long), and I will go nowhere else. They do an amazing job on all fronts, and I’m glad they’re taking everything precaution so they can stay open to keep their clients happy and safe.

Great space, very inviting with a ton of natural light. Janine is a great stylist/colorist. As a former stylist, i am very picky with how my hair is cut and colored. I have dark hair so highlights always tend to pull warm or too streaky. Since Janine started doing my hair I never have to go home and retouch later like I generally do after visiting other salons. Janine just gets it! Highly recommend her!

I love this salon! Whenever Im in the seat, I feel listened to and cared for. I may not know what needs to be done to my hair when I say, I need more volume in the back, or, more texture, or, need these hairs to lay like *this*, but the professionals at Solo know exactly what to do to make it happen. My hairstylist is Colby and she always does a perfect job with my hair. I get complimented by others every time.

I have always had fabulous experiences here. I feel loved and well cared for by everyone, not just my amazing stylists Claire! The first time I made it downtown since March to September, was to see Claire at Solo! I felt clean, safe, and it was so overdue and needed. More for my soul, than my actual hair! (even though the hair was overdue, too!) I travel from the west suburbs, and I will travel farther if I ever need! Highly recommend Solo. Claire and everyone else is just wonderful.

Ive been going to Taylor at Solo for many years have always loved my new color and style! Ive always loved the salon but this year they truly stepped up! Due to Covid I went 7 months without a haircut! I am extremely careful about where I go and when I felt comfortable to go back I was very happy about being there finally. From being greeted at the door, through my service to check out Solo Salon could not have been nicer or more concerned with their clients well being, safety and comfort. Ive been going to Solo Salon and getting haircuts from Jen for two years. Always excellent service all around. Im extremely happy with their response to COVID. Temp checks at the door, sanitizing hands then washing with soap and water, 6 ft distancing when waiting, disinfecting chairs between guests, keeping cards on file so no handling of cards/cash. Its great to see a salon going the extra mile and following evidence-based guidelines to keep their guests and stylists safe.

This review is for a service I received last December from Seamus.Being biracial I have very curly and thick hair, and finding a stylist who can manage it and deliver something I like is very rare. Seamus was the first stylist EVER to have so much experience and intuition, that I trusted him completely as soon as I sat down in his chair. He knew so much about curly hair, which was such a relief. I knew I was in good hands! Seamus is so sweet and funny but also extremely professional. He was able to “read” my hair, see all the curl patterns and damage and know exactly what to do for each part of my hair. I loved that he explained not only what he was doing, but why, and why certain things work my texture. He explained why he was cutting it the way he was, so I could feel at ease and also be able to know what to ask for the next time I need a cut. He completely revitalized my curls, and gave me exactly the shape that was perfect for me. This was, hands down, THE BEST haircut I’ve ever received in my life. Seamus knows his stuff, and I appreciated how genuinely excited he was to get my hair into the best condition it’s ever been in. My only regret is that I don’t live in Chicago! I’m hoping I can still fly back and get another amazing service from him one day! Thank you SO MUCH Seamus for changing my life!Other stuff: the salon itself is gorgeous and sparkling clean. It feels very homey but still upscale. The front desk staff was friendly and super helpful as well. Can i give this place ZERO stars?I had an appointment that was scheduled about 2-3 weeks prior. I drove from the west suburbs, which took me about 45 minutes, and struggled for about 15 mins to find a parking spot. I called the salon multiple times just before my appointment, hoping they had a parking lot or had suggestions on where to park... repeatedly no answer on their end. I was sent a text message, which is wildly unhelpful while driving especially driving in the city. After a great deal of frustration, I finally made it to the front door of the salon where I was greeted with “oh... your appointment was canceled. We tried to call all of ‘Julies’ clients and tell them. Did you want us to check and make sure we have the right contact information for you?” I was stunned. A lot of good that’s going to do me now, not to mention I had interacted with ‘Julie’ multiple times before and my personal contact information should have been stored somewhere for a situation like this. I promptly left.I contacted the salon again by phone Later that day to discuss what had happened to me, after I had gotten over my experience with their horrible customer service. I got a text message again, and finally a follow up phone call a couple days later. The man on the phone listened to what I had to say, apologized, and then asked me what they could do to rectify the situation. I told them what I thought they should do in order to rectify my horrid experience and he told me he couldn’t offer me anything like that at this time. He said he would talk to his manager and follow up with me. It’s been a couple weeks and I have heard nothing.I will not be returning to this salon and I do not recommend this salon to Anyone, purely based on the atrocious manner in which they handled this unfortunate circumstance. It’s one thing to screw up, it’s entirely another thing to screw up and take no responsibility for putting someone through an ordeal that otherwise shouldn’t have happened.Absolutely terrible!

Not only did I feel at home, I was taken care of & walked out with the confidence that I so desperately needed. I saw them sanitize literally everything after each use, a screening was done upon arrival. I wish I could share the pictures of my transformation.

Ill split them up.Salon: 5 starsJared (I could be misspelling his name) will greet you at the door with hand sanitizer, thermometer, and his infectious smile. He will give you clear instructions on how to navigate the salon during the pandemic. He will then literally skip through the salon occasionally (while maintaining a 6 foot social distance) and make you question how hes so happy... but like, every time you see him? You can overhear some of the updates he provides the stylists regarding appointment changes and you can tell hes got that part locked down. Hes the perfect face for any company and Ive enjoyed my Solo Salon visits more since he joined the team.Stylist: Enrique 5 starsI met Enrique a few years ago when he was an apprentice for another stylist at Solo. Back then he would own the washing, toning, and a few other critical tasks of your appointments depending on how busy the stylist was. He was always on top of his game and I had no hesitations in booking an appointment with him when the salon opened back up after the March-June lockdown. It wasnt just any appointment... I was taking my virgin brown hair back to the angelic platinum that I grew to love years prior. I also needed a cut. Not just any cut... I was taking my pandemic mullet back to my beloved pixie. Long story short, This is a tall order for some short hair.Solo Salon uses Wella hair color and Enrique is very well trained on all things bleach. He took his time and my color was absolutely perfect at the end. With a conditioning treatment, my hair had a texture/shine that looked healthier than the virgin hair I walked in with. We barely discussed the shade/tone of blonde prior to my appointment because I genuinely wanted to see what he would come up with. Ive always had great experiences when asking stylists to do what they think would look best on me.This leads me to the cut. I came in wanting my pixie back but Enrique somehow found a way to slowly cut my hair into a long-ish pixie/bob type cut (not sure the exact name). Being 9 months pregnant with a somewhat round face at the moment, this was the right choice. I dont look like I want to speak to anyones manager (Karen). I dont think I wouldve loved my traditional pixie with the additional baby bloat. Did I mention Im 9 months pregnant? I cant imagine the pressure of taking a 9 month pregnant woman from brunette to blonde AND chopping her mullet into something amazing a week or so before shes to give birth all while shes wearing a mask and trying to avoid going into early labor. If youve ever been pregnant you probably know that you dont necessarily feel like a beauty queen those final weeks. Enrique worked magic and Im 5000 times happier with my appearance.The price tag on a service like mine can feel so painful at times. If its not 100% perfect you can walk away feeling violated and confused. I walked away feeling like I made an investment in my own happiness and excited for my future appointments. My service took about 8 hours (if youve gone blonde, you know...) and I dont even think Enrique stopped for lunch. A huge thanks to both him and Jared for staying late (the salon had closed by the time I was done!).

As a black man, I had reservations about going to Solo as its mainly for white girl blowout types but on of the stylish/barber(Rae) did a really good job. I got a cut, razor line and got trim/shave. 10/10. Cleanest line Ive ever received.

Seamus is amazing, he gave me the best haircut Ive ever had and was great about suggesting products I might want to use when I asked. He was super helpful about suggesting what colors might look good if I choose to do color next time, as well.Also: I have extremely poor vision without my glasses, which can make haircuts a little nerve-wrecking- I cant see myself in the mirror, the tools being used, or honestly much of anything. Its usually a (literal) blur of noises near my ears, with a final dramatic revelation. But when I mentioned my low vision to Seamus he was super understanding and went above and beyond to make sure I knew what was happening, describing the tools he was using and letting me know what to expect. He also paused a few times so that I could put my glasses on and see the progress so far. I have never had someone take so much care to make sure Im not nervous during a haircut before, and it was really thoughtful and great. If I could give 100 stars instead of a measly 5, I would.

I mean - state of the art decor, open floor plan and just so much life and activity happening in this salon. My personal fav hairstylist is obviously Whitney who welcomes me with the warmest hug everytime I see her. We always have too much to catch up on but she manages to give me amazing haircuts and styles all while chatting with me. It is a luxurious salon so the prices will be the same - $60 min for haircuts . Since I get my haircut once a year , I don’t mind it. LOVE the decor !!

A great salon featuring bumble and bumble and kerastase products. I booked last minute and they were friendly and able to accommodate me for a single process color on the same day. The colorist was friendly, listened to what I asked for, made some recommendations, and got to work. I saved a bit of money by skipping the blowout, and they will let you dry/style your own hair at their blowdry station if you choose this. They dont allow tips on credit cards, so plan accordingly.
