I wonder why they do not have sanitizing wipes for members to use to clean the equipment. I have been to other Ys and gyms all over and many have sanitizing wipes. Here at this Y, they have floor and glass cleaner to use to clean the gym equipment. Im not sure if thats the type of product we need during COVID-19. As much as I pay for a membership, one would think they could afford sanitizing wipes. Will reconsider my membership if changes are not made. Everyone needs to feel safe.

I think that the Chester Y has a great variety of activities. The facility is always clean and the staff super friendly! Ciera is the best trainer and motivator. I enjoy coming there and have met friends and workout partners in the classes. Well worth the money and I highly recommend.

Chester Y : decent sized weight room ... would like back (south room) reopened when possible. Good variety of Yoga classes; with such large branch membership, site would benefit from upgrade & expansion (after Manchester redo completed) - maybe pool larger 8 vs 6 lanes, and one end deeper, add outdoor pool? Better sauna - like Petersburg branchCamp Thunderbird - THANK YOU (and Chrissy), that outdoor pool is a gem ... please keep it available for member use thru rest of this summer and all future summers !!!

The YMCA has continuously tried to accommodate all the interests of its member, and I think for the most part, really offers something for everyone. I joined as a college student and have continued as a member for the last 20+ years to now include my husband and daughter. I enjoy the classes, pool and exercise equipment, but what really keeps me coming back is the great staff and friendly fellow YMCA patrons. It is an inviting place for working on your fitness without the worries of judgement.

I enjoyed my time at the Y in Chester. I was only there for a little over a year but I had a great experience while there. The swim program for the kids is great, there are plenty of group exercise classes, the staff is great, never to crowded, and as a healthy clean environment. The price of the Y was very affordable for families, and I like the no contract idea. I was sad to cancel my membership with them but would recommend any family to this location.

I visited this YMCA and wanted a tour of the facility. I was informed that I had to provide my ID and that it would be put in a system. I do not appreciate having my ID put into your system just to visit your facility. It is one thing to have to provide the ID, but to put it in a system then tell me that it will not be deleted when I depart is unacceptable. I will go elsewhere when my privacy is respected.

You can sign up online. You will pay automatically. BUT to cancel you have to go in personally. If you email them a question, they ignore it. They purposely make it hard to stop that payment from coming out of your account. I will go in today to cancel the teen membership I have for my child and our family won’t be back.

Only reason there’s one star is it will not let me put in a 0. Evidently, if you leave something at the facility the staff is forbidden from going to look to see if it is still there. $100 a month for a family membership to an overcrowded gym and they cannot even take care of basic customer service. How is that community focused? I thought this was a family place 🙅🏼‍♂️

I started going to the YMCA in kindergarten. I was, for the most part, very unaware of what what was around me and what I was doing. The YMCA was, as my parents say, greatly beneficial towards me as well as my sister. The kids I am currently with in the teen center are quite nice. Although I have spoken to only a few of them a couple times during the entire school year. I also was apart of the Junior leaders club which did not really help me. But I suppose it helped others. The after-school program was quite bleak, tiring, yet sufficient for me. Considering I spent every day of every week either studying or doing homework. Which was great, in fact, for my growing process on general. You get a lot of homework time, also depending on how long it takes for your parents to pick you up. We also have scheduled gym time, according to this year, three times a week. High school kids (11th - 12th) have the opportunity to volunteer and get paid during the summer as well as the school year. And lowerclassmen get get to volunteer as well. We go on field trips during holidays during the school year. And the teens regularly go on field trips during summer camp. Elementary does as well, but less frequently. The last time I attended summer camp, the teens spent the primary of the time going on field trips on Wednesdays and the children had to bear with being outside more often. The teens also cook sometimes and primarily just enjoy the end result. Food.Thats all I wanted to say,Have a great day!

Chester Va Ymca has different rules for different races. Aquatics department allows Caucasians certain exceptions. !) I was told I got to water aerobics class too late so I had to wait until the next class. Caucasian comes in approximately 15 mins later and gets in the pool and nothing was said. 2) My girlfriend and I went to water aerobics class and we were told that we could not use the water weights unless we were with an instructor. Approximately 20 minutes later a Caucasian man got in the pool with water weights and nothing was said. 3) I was unable to get in the pool because the detachable steps had been removed. I asked the lifeguard how could i get in since the detachable steps had been removed. He pointed to the low side of the pool and said right there. I explained to him that I had knee surgery and was unable to get down on the ground. I was told to wait until the next class approximately one hour. 15-20 minutes later a Caucasian man came in and they put the steps down for him. 4) My granddaughter was told she could not be in open swim while water aerobics class was in session. She got out of the pool and went to the swim lane and I was told by the lifeguard that she was struggling so she needs to get out of the pool. I explained to him that she had taken swim classes numerous times at the Petersburg Y and has a certificate The lifeguard swim tested her and she passed. 5) The very next day a little Caucasian boy approximately 5 years old was allowed to swim in the open swim DURING THE SAME exact class that my granddaughter was told she could not be in. I asked the instructor WHY IS ONE CHILD ALLOWED TO SWIM AND NOT ANOTHER SHE STATED oh hes not bothering us! Chester Va Ymca has to do better with their policies!

The Chester YMCA daycare and after school program was pretty terrible. Directors and staff dont follow or uphold Y principles or standards concerning discipline or teacher/student ratios, teachers speak harshly to the children and provide little to no structure or activities for the children to do. Drop in unannounced and ask for a tour and youll see what I mean.
